Stolen credit card use at apple store
on Tuesday 4/2/13 2 credit cards (visa and amex ) were lifted from my change purse.wallet.I got an email stating congrats on a new MAC. well i don't have a new mac.
someone at the apple store in bethesda allowed a $6600+ dollar amount to be charged on the stolen amex card. anyone in the store verifying identity of the purchaser against the name on the card?
I called the store today got an automated response requested a manager put on hold for > 25 min. no response.
I called back asking the automated responder for customer service. explained my situation. Asked if I had filled out a police report. I said I called the credit card company to cancel the card. the person said this is a manger problem but no managers available stating he was only the receptionist. got my number and name and would get back to me.
the receptionist did not give my a feeling of any urgency or concern on his part. The store allowing a Mac computer to leave the store via a fradulent transaction is a loss for all.
Then call the police.
Contest the charge with the card issuer.
Visa, MasterCard, Amex, etc. have implemented an incredibly stupid rule over the last few years that prohibits retailers for asking for idendification if the card is signed and they do not have reason to believe the card is stolen.
When you get the replacement cards do NOT sign them. Write " C I D " in the signature space (see ID). When the clerk at whatever store checks to make sure it's signed, they should see that and ask for identification.
No one at Apple can address your problem. You need to take it up with the card issuer.

You can't from Apple, they don't let you buy iTunes gift cards with an Apple Store gift card. You could see if a different store in your country might let you (though they possibly won't), or try selling the card to somebody e.g. family, friend, eBay etc

Thanks for the question. Based on what you stated, it seems like you dont want to use a credit card with the Apple ID and it wont let you. I would recommend that you read this article, it may be able to help you isolate or resolve the issue.

Is there a way to remove my credit card info on the apple store app on iOS? There is no option for none. I don't mean from iTunes I have a gift card on file in iTunes.
Do you mean the App store? Both iTunes and the App store use what ever is set up on your appleID, be it credit card or iTunes card. Its the same account.

Stolen Credit Card Used on iTunes?!
This might be the wrong area for the question but oh well. My friend had a credit card stolen and the people bought several iTunes purchases, about 1,000$ worth. I am pretty sure apple could track this and help the police, but I am not 100%. I would just like to know what you all would think on this issue? Will apple be able to track the purchases?
I'm not sure what you mean by "track". The account will certainly show a record of purchases as well as the name and address information provided by whoever opened the account, should that be factual. What they can provide the police or the credit card company and whether they could find the account just by a credit card number I don't know, but I do know that they would only respond to the police or credit card company; your friend wouldn't be able to request any such information him/herself.

Anyone's credit card hacked in Apple Store 6/24/10 purchasing iPhone4?
Anyone have this issue? Today I picked up my iPhone 4 at Upper West Side Store in NYC. A few hours later I received 5 fraudulent charges for songs and albums on iTunes, iTune receipts sent on my email. This is the first time my credit card has been compromised. How could that be? My credit card was swiped in front of me for my legitimate charges. How was security breached?
This just happened to me with my 3GS iPhine on 6/24/2010. Three charges, each for the same amount, all just under $740.00 each on the same day. Thankfully, my credit card company was very good, unlike Apple, and got a hold of me on the same day to verify. Apple was no help and even claimed my card was not charges and canceled the card. Now I load an iTunes card on my account so if this happens again, and I hear it has happened a lot, again, with no help for Apple, the thieves won't get much. Apple needs to take responsibility for security of its online customers.

When entering my credit cards into Passbook, I noticed that some credit card companies required secondary verification (enter 4 digit code sent by text or email) before completing the setup and some did not. I was wondering if it is possible for someone that has access to my physical credit card, such as a merchant or restaurant server, could scan it into their personal iPhone and make unauthorized purchases using Apple Pay.

You don't need an Apple ID to use a "classic" iPod. You only need a computer (Mac or PC) that can run iTunes. If your iPod is older, your computer does not even need to run the latest version of iTunes. You can add songs to your iTunes library from music CDs, and song files you have already. Then sync the iPod to that iTunes library.

I have just discovered this fact in the past two weeks when I needed to update the expiration date on a virtual credit card number which I have had registered on my iTunes account for years. Apple claims this is a long time policy but considering that I was able to keep using the same VAN for several years by updating the expiration date, I believe the implementation of the policy is recent.
I spoke to two different Apple support people just now and they were apologetic and advised that I leave feedback about the issue at this site:

The support manager told me that the reason for this policy is that it is easy for hackers to steal these virtual numbers and use them--which is ridiculous, because the whole point of the VAN is that it is tied to one vendor only once it is used, and if the vendor changes even one letter in the name when they put through the charge on the credit card account, the charge is refused (at least the way my credit card issuer handles VANs). With any other form of payment, Apple and I would still have a problem with unauthorized charges on the iTunes store and I would have an even bigger problem if the hacker stole my real credit card number and used it anywhere they pleased.
I think this issue should be spread widely on tech sites and anyone who is having this problem should also be sure to leave feedback on the address above as it is supposedly taken very seriously. This is a step backward as far as I am concerned. I love Apple products and will figure out a different way to pay for my various iTunes subscriptions in the meantime but I am certainly not a happy camper right now. -
