Stolen Gift Card

Can anyone help me with this. I have an Apple Gift card for $499 that I sold on ebay and which was paid for via paypal. Ebay notified me that it was a fraudulent transacation. I called Apple to report that someone stole this card and Apple said that although the COULD tell me where the purchase took place, the WOULD NOT do so. Now, I am wondering how I can retrieve this card value. I did check my balance and it is completely totalled out. I find it INCOMPREHENSIBLE not to mention REALLY,REALLY BAD CUSTOMER SERVICE that Apple will not work with me.
Does anyone have any suggestions? Thanks

Actually, all I expet Apple to do is to provide to me what was purchased. That way I can provide that information to the authorities. I once had a Macy's gift card stolen from me and I was able to contact Macy's who were able to track down where the purchase was made and the purchaser also used a credit card at the same time. That information was then easily provided to the local police who were able to follow up on it. If Macy's is able and willing to cooperate with law officials, why is Apple not willing. Because, according to the customer service rep I spoke with today, Apple is able to identify what was purchased and when it was purchased with the stolen card, Apple simply REFUSES to do so.
By the way, I am attempting to get the information for the person whose ebay account was defrauded. I myself have not suffered any loss since the card was paid for prior to my sending the buyer the card number and pin.
As far as Apple not being the police, I completely AGREE. I am not asking them to do anything other than provide information which they have about a theft of which they have been made aware. Further, Apple loves to market technology like Hidden which allows a device to be tracked. It is, in my opinion, somewhat hypocritical to market technology to keep your property safe but to not cooperate in providing data that would allow the authorities to easily track down the theives.
I could just be completely off base here. Maybe I am more upset of being an unwilling participant in someone being robbed.

I recently suffered a similar theft, so I feel your pain.
I had two (2) Best Buy gift cards - one worth $222.75, and another worth $50.00. I was saving the cards for Black Friday shopping, but I decided to post the gift cards on Craigslist to see if I could get a good amount of cash for them now. The two cards together came to $272.50, and I was asking $250 OBO.
Someone contacted me (using an out-of-town number) and said he was interested in the cards. He said he was downtown and, before driving 45 minutes to meet me, wanted to verify the funds were on the cards. I assured him that the money was on the cards, and I had not even scratched the back of the cards to reveal the four-digit PIN on either card. So there was no way I or anyone else could have spent the money yet.
I told the person that I was reluctant to call Best Buy, as I didn't want him to hear me say the card number and thus have a way to deplete my cards. But I dialed the 1-800 number on the back of the gift cards, and sure enough it was merely an automated machine that asked me to dial in my card number and PIN numbers. Since I did not have to SAY the numbers I told him I'd do it. That was where it all went wrong.
I typed in my card numbers and PIN numbers from my phone, assuming that the person on the other end couldn't see what I was typing. After all, I wasn't chatting or texting with the person. After hearing the balance, I told the person where I'd be and where we could meet. He said he'd be there within the hour.
I didn't hear from the person after an hour had gone by, so I called him. He said he was stuck in traffic and asked if we could meet the next day. I said no problem. But when I checked the card balance the following morning, both cards were empty! I didn't make an order!
I called Best Buy, and this was over two weeks ago. In between that time, I've filed a police report and spoken with three (3) different Best Buy people. They said gift cards are treated as cash - which I can somewhat understand. But what Best Buy doesn't seem to understand is that gift cards, just like debit and credit cards, hold a trace online. Whoever used my cards made on online order! The only two ways for someone to GET the item(s) they ordered are as follows: pick them up in a store, or ship the items.
Assuming the person was somewhat intelligent, he probably chose to pick the item(s) up from the store. If that's the case, there should be a purchase number, date, time, etc. And when you pick up an item at Best Buy, you have to show ID. Also, Best Buy has cameras all over their stores, inside and out! They should be able to look at the cameras and see that it wasn't me!
Option #2 - they had the item(s) shipped somewhere. That's easier to track, especially if the items were sent out of town and out of state.
Best Buy reps told me they know there was fraud on my cards but that they cannot refund me any of the money! How can you tell me you know I didn't spend a dime of my money and was robbed but that you won't refund me my money?! I will NEVER EVER shop at Best Buy ever again!!!

Discovering that your gift card was used without your permission or knowledge would be aggravating, so I can understand why you’d be frustrated with the situation you’ve found yourself in. I know that I certainly would be displeased with this, and I’m sorry if we are unable to process your request for a replacement gift card.
Gift cards are treated in much the same manner as cash, except with one added benefit. If you lose your gift card, we might be able to replace it with a brand new one if you present us with the original receipt. In accordance with our terms and conditions though, we’d only be able to replace it up to the remaining balance left. If your gift card was used prior to contacting us, we wouldn’t be able to replace those funds. This would explain the difficulties you mention when trying to recover your gift cards.
Having said this, I pulled up your account using the email address attached the forum and found that you’re working with our customer service agent, Debbie, to try to resolve this matter. Please know that I’ve let her know that you’re looking for an update regarding your case, and she should be in touch with you in the next day or two with information she may have for you. I received a gift card and it vanished except I have the backing to it with the barcode. Is there any way of telling if it's been used?

Sorry, but there's no way to force the iTunes Store to use your credit card. If there's a credit balance available, purchases will be deducted from that first.

I had a gift certificate that was worth 100 that as stolen from my house. Is there anything I can do? I have the receipt with the last four digits of the card number. I am just upset because I was going to use that towards apps that would help my classroom. If there is anything I can do I would really appreciate it.

Yes you can act fast and you will be able stop the card you purchased and somebody stole it you just need to provide proof of purchase , if money was not depleted till you reported the issue you are likely to get a credit on your account. Apple is able to shot down all purchased apps / contents if they will find out that.

Punishing stolen Itunes Gift Card theives?

I just got a gift card and I peeled it off the paper it stuck to, and found the code had already been scratched off. I tried the code and it had already been redeemed.
I'm pretty infuriated. Can I report this stolen code to Apple so they can ban the guy who stole it, at least?

Sorry, but there's no way you could find out who redeemed the card. If your mail is being stolen, this is an issue you need to take up with the Post Office Inspection Service.

Can you track a stolen itunes gift card (ie. find out whose account it was redeemed on?)

My daughter had some friends over and her $25 itunes gift card was scratched off and used by someone else. Is there anyway to track what account it was used on? Itunes hasn't been of any help.

It really does seem sad, since this is obviously one easy to follow trail right to the theif. Not sure why Apple simply can't track a number, especially when bragging about things such as owning the most advanced OS in the world, LOL.

Anyone else had gift card code stolen?

My husband bought me an iTunes gift card and when I scratched off the silver and entered the code, I received a message that the card had already been redeemed. I did not redeem it (neither did my husband) and the silver coating had not been touched. I emailed customer service and they blew me off. Is this the usual response to their customers? Is there a problem with codes being hacked?
Has this happened to anyone else? Why does anyone spend their money here? I will NEVER as long as I live give APPLE a dime, that's for sure.

Apple has no way of knowing that the card wasn't used by someone and then just given to you and you attempted to re-use it. So while I sympathize, I don't know what Apple could do to verify that it was you and not someone else who purchased that card.
While it's possible that someone has managed to counterfeit the codes on the cards, I haven't heard of it happening. Even less likely would be a duplicate code, though again it could be possible. Something amiss at the store seems the most likely scenario, though since obviously I didn't see the original card, I can't say how that might have happened. Have you discussed the problem with the store from whom your husband purchased the card?

Fraudulent Seller Selling Gift Card from Stolen Credit Cards, What do I do?

Paypal did not help and closed the resolution.
I bought on May 22nd.
Checked with Tim Horton's because wanted to use for the Father's Day deal and they said that the gift Cards have been closed.
Paypal said they don't cover Gift Cards.
So why is Ebay allowing selling of Gift Cards on Ebay if they don't protect the Buyers???
What can I do? I lost $160.....

This leads to the obvious question - why does eBay allow the PayPal Protection logo in listings where the item clearly is NOT ELIGIBLE to the protection?

TS1424 iTunes account continues to get "hacked", downloads [asian characters] app, then uses my iTunes gift-card money for in-game purchases.

So what's going on?
It all started a few months ago when I realized that the $20 iTunes gift-card credit was used without my knowledge. Someone had purchased an iPhone app that was obviously foreign. I immediately changed my passwords to something I've never used anywhere, ever. The next day, I noticed that whoever downloaded the "app" used the card AGAIN to make in-game purcahses. Scared, angered, and confused, I called Apple who proceeded to tell me to change my passwords (despite my explanation) and then deactivated my account for a week. They reimbursed the stolen money and I thought everything was good... until now.
There are only 2 devices that are authorized to access my iTunes account - my iMac and my iPhone. I do not join any unreliable websites or download any malicious (appearing) software, much of it being recommended-by-apple apps. I just went on to iTunes today 9/9/12 and noticed that I was downloading something and there it was, once again:
I have no idea how this is happening and/or how to stop it. They want to charge me $40 to talk to them on the phone since my gear is older than 90 days. If anyone knows what to do, or why this is happening, please help!

There is no fee for email support. Also, in 99.9% of cases these in-app purchases, and what you describe are due to family members using the device and not aware they are carrying out in-app purhases.
Restrict in-apps and you'll see this will stop. I'm sure iTS will also regurgitate this as well to you.

My Apple ID was hacked; $70 Gift Card Gone.

My Apple ID over night two nights ago was stolen. It was "released" by the criminal and iTunes said my Password was invalid. My Apple ID was open for the taking so I re-registered it. Any app I downloaded with it has crashed (only when I try to update, not use) and my gift card is not showing up.
At the beginning I had emailed Apple Support and their response?
"Robert, I noticed that your account "kahenniyou<at>hotmail<dot>com" was formerly named "myaccount<at>gmail<dot>com" and proceeded to explain how to permanently released my "myaccount<at>gmail<dot>com" Apple ID, not FIX the situation. He must have misunderstand "someone stole my account". Now, I re-registered because it was an invalid password before, now it says "cannot connect to itunes store" when I try to update an app.
On top of all of this, $70 of christmas money from my mother is gone. What do I do? Apple Stores said they can't do nothing, automated phone systems said nothing and the man who emailed me? works 8-5 EST Mon-Fri. This person has my bank acct info NOW.
Please help me! I am begging.

The problem is twenty three people leaving or twenty three thousand leaving has zero impact on a carrier with over 100 million customers. And they have the lowest churn rate. So if 10,000 or 20,000 or more churn out it means little to the carrier.
If you have a real lawyer he/she will advise you that you have no case. The device was not lost or stolen by the carrier, you were not eligible for a new device, and like any business who employs large numbers of poorly trained personnel who make low wages what was told to you is not in writing. So a verbal exchange does not hold up.
In fact in Verizon's customer agreement it has such a disclaimer against any verbal exchanges so if you have that agreement in writing, go get them.
The posting on public forums and places like Face Book, Linkin, Google+ or a personal web site can open you up to a lawsuit for Dilution of Trade Name, and other offences. However if you have proof then go for it.
