  • Stolen Ipad.  Can I retrieve the location history?

My ipad was stolen last week.  I used "find my iphone" to send a message, lock the device, and send me an email when it connected to a wifi network.  These actions were not executed since it was not connected.  That is, until today.  I received emails today that said the message was displayed and the ipad was locked at 1:44pm today.  What I still do not know is where it was when this occured.
I've read that "find my iphone" retains the last location for up to 24hrs, but it does not show the location when I log in now.  Can someone tell me if I can retrieve the location history?  Or perhaps it didn't stay online long enough to determine the location.  Any thoughts or suggestions would be greatly appreciated.

Change your iTunes (Apple ID) password along with any other password that was stored in the iPod.  If any passwords are associated with credit cards, contact the CC company and get your card replaced (with a new number).  If any passwords are associated with your bank or any savings institution, contact them also and discuss approprate action with them.
The "Find my..." function is pretty much useless if the device is in the hands of a thief.  All that is necessary is for the thief to connect to any computer with iTunes and "Restore as new."
The only real protection you have is with the personal information on the device rather than the physical device itself.  Something as small as an iPod should have a strong 8-digit (or longer) password AND be configured for automatic wipe in the event of ten consecutive incorrect password entries.

  • IPad 2 can see wifi but doesn't connect ... What's going on???

iPad 2 can see wifi but doesn't connect ... What's going on???

A few more things that you can try.
Turn WiFi off - restart the iPad - turn WiFi on again and then try to connect again. Restart the iPad by holding down on the sleep button until the red slider appears and then slide to shut off. To power up hold the sleep button until the Apple logo appears and let go of the button. Try to join again.
Go to Settings>General>Reset>Reset Network Settings. Then select your WiFi network again and try to join again.
Go to Settings>WiFi>Tap on the arrow next to your network name and then tap on Forget this Network in the next window. Then back out of the setting and go back to WiFi and let the iPad find your home network and then tap on the network name and try joining it again.
Do the same thing as above except don't tap on Forget this Network - tap on Renew Lease at the bottom.

On my iPad I can see in mail only the headlines of the mails but not the text - why?

Try closing the Mail app completely and see if the text shows when you re-open the Mail app : from the home screen (i.e. not with the Mail app 'open' on-screen) double-click the home button to bring up the taskbar, then press and hold any of the apps on the taskbar for a couple of seconds or so until they start shaking, then press the '-' in the top left of the Mail app to close it, and touch any part of the screen above the taskbar so as to stop the shaking and close the taskbar.
If that doesn't work then also do a reset : press and hold both the sleep and home buttons for about 10 to 15 seconds (ignore the red slider), after which the Apple logo should appear - you won't lose any content, it's the iPad equivalent of a reboot

For what it's worth, you posted this in 2011, and here in 2014 I am still having this same issue. Over the last two days, I have had to unlock my apple account 8 times. I didn't get any new devices. I haven't initiated a password reset. I didn't forget my password. I set up two factor authentication and have been able to do the unlocking with the key and using a code sent to one of my devices.
    That all works.
It's this having to unlock my account every time I go to use any of my devices. And I have many: iMac, iPad, iPad2, iPad mini, iPhone 5s, iPod touch (daughter), and my old iPhone 4 being used as an ipod touch now.  They are all synced, and all was working just fine.
I have initiated an incident with Apple (again) but I know they are just going to suggest I change my Apple ID. It's a simple one, and one that I am sure others think is theirs. I don't want to change it. I shouldn't have to. Apple should be able to tell me who is trying to use it, or at least from where.
    Thanks for listening,
    Melissa

Thank you so much! what a swift reply - I am amazed! but my main problem is trying to transfer an app bought in iTunes to my desktop Mac. I thought 'seeing' the iPod in Devices would make it easier, but I am stuck... Can you help?

  • I restored my ipod, when I went to put everything back on it, I got a message that said, "an error writing to the device, can not sinc.  Then it said the required disc can not be found.  Now what do I do, I have all of this music and apps that I can't get

Before I restored my ipod, I backed it up then I updated and restored.  The problem is when I went to put everything back on it, I got a message saying that an error writing to the device, can not sync.  Then another message appeared saying that "the required disc can not be found.  Now what do I do?

Try resetting the iPOd. Nothing will be lost.
Reset iPod touch:  Press and hold the On/Off Sleep/Wake button and the Home
button at the same time for at least ten seconds, until the Apple logo appears.
    - Also, delet the iPod Phot Cache folder for the second error. For its loation see:

  • I want to update the OS of the Macbook Pro I bought today to Lion, but at "purchase date" I can only choose 2011. Now what?

I want to update the OS of the Macbook Pro I bought today to Lion, but at "purchase date" I can only choose 2011. Now what?

Sorry but I don't completely understand your question or what you are trying to do.
If you purchase a new MBP Today, Jan 3 2012, it should already have OS X Lion 10.7.x installed on it.
Only some left over early 2011 model that stores may have had sitting around would of come with Snow Leopard 10.6.8. Or even if you bought a Reburbished model from Apple it would of still came from them with Lion.
    So my questions are.
    1) Did you buy this new from a authorized Apple store or reseller?
    2) If not new was it purchased from an authorized Apple store or reseller?
    3) To my knowledge when trying to do updates to the OS there is no check of purchase date. So what exactly are you doing that asks for a purchase date?
If new then just use the Software Updates in the Apple Logo menu item.
If not new and it originally came with Snow Leopard or Leopard you will have to buy OS X Lion at the Online Apple Store. If that is the case then nyou need to put in the original date the unit was purchased NEW and or manufactured. That way the Online Apple Store can tell if Lion will function on that model properly.

Mozilla didn't work so I deleted it thinking I could download a newer version. Since I can't get online, I can't do that. Now what do I do?

Are you trying to reinstall Firefox? If you open up Internet Explorer on your computer, can you get online? If you can't get online there then you likely have some sort of connection issue.
If you Can get online with Internet Explorer, simply go to [http://www.getfirefox.com www.getfirefox.com], and press the Download Now button. Click "Run" then install Firefox on your machine. If you still have troubles after installing Firefox, please let me know and we can fix those.

  • My iPad 3 can't find my location...

    Hi,
I have an iPad 3 with wifi running iOS 7.0.4. For some reason, it can't find my location. It won't work with Siri, maps or weather apps. I have location enabled for all of those apps in my settings.
The problem arose when my router was replaced. Would that be what's causing it?
    Thanks,
    BearH

If you have the WiFi-only iPad your location is determined by the location of nearby WiFi routers. The WiFi-only iPad does not have GPS. Without GPS location-finding is done by using a Apple location database which contains the MAC addresses of routers and their physical location. A MAC address is a unique number which is built-in to all network devices when manufactured. The Apple database is built and updated by Apple GPS-enabled devices (primarily iPhones) actually seeing your router and then adding/updating the router's location in the database.
Bottom line: Your new Router is quite probably not yet in the Apple location database. It hasn't been seen yet and added to the database. Without this your iPad cannot be located. Unfortunately, there is no way for users to request information to be added to Apple's database.

  • Sparsebundle corrupt but can see its contents? TimeMachine restore not working... : (

Hi - this may be old hat, but I didn't see this specific case covered in prior threads:
    - My (friend's) TimeMachine backup sparsebundle is corrupt (or at least, not mountable)
-- Meaning that when I try to use DiskUtility to repair the disk, no go
       -- fsck_hfs doesn't work
    - Finder tells me the Macintosh.sparsebundle is about 43GB
    - I can still see the bundle's content through OSX command line (see below)
    - The sparsebundles are outside of the Backups.backupdb folder (see below)
    - I can cat all of the files inside the sparsebundle (although I haven't checked all of the band files... not sure if that would error on a corrupt band file, anyway)
    Some background:
    - The original TimeMachine files were created on a NAS
    - We're now accessing the files on a USB-attached device
    - The original machine - a MacBook Air - was running Lion OSX Server (don't ask...)
    - Said MBA was stolen & is not available
    - So.... this is a perfect storm of events - any help is much appreciated.
Wondering if there's any way to create a sparsebundle volume & then copy all of these files that I can see to the new sparsebundle volume.
I have yet to try any Mac-specific recovery tools.

    Hi SKS -
Thanks for that link - I actually referenced some of the steps in that page without mentioning its URL.
The key problem there is that this step:
    chflags -R nouchg /Volumes/{name of your network share}/{name of}.sparsebundle
    yields nothing - no response.
    Then, the next step:
hdiutil attach -nomount -noverify -noautofsck /Volumes/{name of your network share/{name of}.sparsebundle
    Gives me:
    /dev/diskx
    Instead of something like this:
    /dev/diskx Apple_partition_scheme
    /dev/diskxs1 Apple_partition_map
    /dev/diskxs2 Apple_HFSX
So... it's definitely a little crazy messed up.

  • HT201514 I recently updated the Imac software, now i can't see my Wd back up drive in 'time machine' Its connected via firewire and i can see its connected if i check firewire on my mac.

I recently updated my IMac software to the latest version, now i can't see by WD back up drive in time machine. its conected to the firewire port ok and i can see it if i check firewire connections. The drive works ok on an old windows laptop. Any ideas.

    leedssparky wrote:
Is it possible that i did this whilst updating the OS software whilst leaving the WD drive connected.
It's a good idea to eject and disconnect external HDs, just in case, but that shouldn't cause a problem.
Why when setting up time capsule, does it only look for WIFI drives through airport.
I think you're confusing Time Machine (the backup software) with a Time Capsule (Apple hardware combining a wireless router and HD).  Unless you have a Time Capsule you want to back up to, there's no point to clicking the Set Up Time Capsule button, if that's what you mean:
I've attached the Firewire bus from system profiler, dont understand why i can see it there but not in TM.
There seems to be some sort of problem with the drive, since Disk Utility thinks it's fixed, but immediately the problem returns (per the first sample you posted).
    How old is the drive?
If it's within the warranty period, you might want to contact WD or the place you bought it.

  • Mac Pro Can't See MS-DOS Fat32 HD on PowerPC G4 Connected Via Ethernet, But Can See Its Mac HDs

I have a Mac Pro (aluminum Late 2010) running 10.9.5 connected to a PowerPC G4 running 10.4.11 via a ethernet cable running from the 2nd ethernet jack on the Mac Pro to the ethernet jack on the PowerPC G4.
I've connected to the PowerPC G4 via the Power Mac's network connection and I am able to see and interact with two of the G4's HDs, which have 10.4 and 10.5 installed. The G4 also has a third blank HD which is formatted in MS-DOS Fat32 format which I can see on the G4's desktop. I can't however, see the Fat32 drive on my Mac Pro's Network window, just the two Mac formatted drives.
Is there anyway to see the G4's Fat32 drive on the Mac Pro?

That did the trick! Thank You!
    Under 10.4.11 System Preferences:
    Check "Windows Sharing".
    Choose account to share.
    Enter your account password.
Refresh window on the Mac Pro and it shows up
