Stolen iPad: When data erased after 10 failed passcodes, will the device also disappear from "Find My iPad"?

Very shortly after someone lifted my iPad, the device disappeared from the list of devices in "Find my iPhone". iOS 7 was installed on it and "Find my iPad" enabled and "erase data" was enabled for the passcode. Is there any other reason why the iPad no longer appears in the list of devices?

It prevents a thief from accessing your software and data, but unless it has iOS 7 installed it will not prevent the thief from erasing and restoring it for his/her own use.
If you have iOS 7 installed even if the thief cracks your passcode, they will need to know your Apple ID and password to use it, otherwise, it's bricked.

I have tried changing the "DataSourceMode" as below, now the insert command is working, but update command is not working.

instead of only "Daughter".

Data wiped after failing inserting an unknown blackberry password

Hi,
I have a BB 9300 Curve 3G with Movistar Spain. This morning I downloaded the desktop PC for windows and when I connected the device to the PC, the application started to request a password. I have been using BBs since 2005 and never had this password request. I tried a couple of options which did not work. Then, to my surprise, the BB also requested this password, which, till now, I don´t know which password it is. I used the 10 tentatives trying different alternatives (PIN, PUK, screen lock, BB id) and none of them worked. Then to my INCREDIBLE SURPRISE, the device started to WIPE all my data.
I can understand if the device is locked, but WIPING ????? I have lost tons of business contacts that I wanted to "ironically" backup in case I had an accident.
After 6 years using BB, I must say that I am really considering moving into iPhone or Android phone as this contact lost probably will impact my business significantly.
I have called the Movistar technical support and they were clear stating that this was randomly executed by RIM and they are equally amused and irritated on this practice, however, there is not much they can do about it. They referred me to this website, as there is no local tech support, neither phone or email.
I am really dissapointed on BB after latest failure. I have even tried new devices like Torch 9860 which clearly dissapointed me as well in terms of usability compared to iPhones or Samsung Galaxy S.
If someone could help me to recover my contacts (maybe some hidden way to recover from the "wiped" data), I really appreciate it. I am keen to send the device to RIM if they can help on this.

Hi,
One of the passwords I inserted was the one I chose to lock the device, it did not work. I don´t think it was that password, besides, it started asking 1st on the desktop PC when it was the 1st time I had installed it on that PC and 1st access, then, the device started asking for it as well. I don´t agree with your statement.
Locking the device is fine, but wiping it is just too much without further asking or checking. Is it written somewhere this type of security policy ?

Go into the control panel. Add/remove programs. Uninstall iTunes, Apple mobile device service, apple application support. Then go out and redownload and reinstall iTunes and try again.
There seems to be a glitch with a recent update and one way to overcome it is to just start over. If that doesn't work there are more in depth things you can do.

As of april 16 every device that uses facetime must be updated to acertain level or it won't work. And the 'catch' is that it applies to your device and the person you're calling.

‘iPad is disabled’ fix without resetting using iTunes
Today I met my match with an iPad that had a passcode entered too many times, resulting in it displaying the message ‘iPad is disabled – Connect to iTunes’. This was a student iPad and since they use Notability for most of their work there was a chance that her files were not all backed up to the cloud. I really wanted to just re-activate the iPad instead of totally resetting it back to our default image.
I reached out to my PLN on Twitter and had some help from a few people through retweets and a couple of clarification tweets. I love that so many are willing to help out so quickly. Through this I also learned that I look like Lt. Riker from Star Trek (thanks @FillineMachine).
Through some trial and error (and a little sheer luck), I was able to reactivate the iPad without loosing any data. Note, this will only work on the computer it last synced with. Here’s how:
1. Configurator is useless in reactivating a locked iPad. You will only be able to completely reformat the iPad using Configurator. If that’s ok with you, go for it – otherwise don’t waste your time trying to figure it out.
2. Open iTunes with the iPad disconnected.
3. Connect the iPad to the computer and wait for it to show up in the devices section in iTunes.
4. Click on the iPad name when it appears and you will be given the option to restore a backup or setup as a new iPad (since it is locked).
5. Click ‘Setup as new iPad’ and then click restore.
6. The iPad will start backing up before it does the full restore and sync. CANCEL THE BACKUP IMMEDIATELY. You do this by clicking the small x in the status window in iTunes.
7. When the backup cancels, it immediately starts syncing – cancel this as well using the same small x in the iTunes status window.
8. The first stage in the restore process unlocks the iPad, you are basically just cancelling out the restore process as soon as it reactivates the iPad.
If done correctly, you will experience no data loss and the result will be a reactivated iPad. I have now tried this with about 5 iPads that were locked identically by students and each time it worked like a charm.

What are the options if one iPad was stolen last week and Apple created a bug which the burglar can turn off "Find My Phone"?

Last week, my gf was stolen and lost her iPad. I thought that everything was lost because "Find My Phone" didn't manage to track the iPad location so the police could do something.
Today, I ended up reading this article (http://9to5mac.com/2014/04/03/ios-7-bug-allows-anyone-to-disable-find-my-iphone- and-bypass-activation-lock-without-a-password/) which tells me that the iOS 7.1 presents a bug where someone can deactivate the "Find My Phone" function without the password.
What are the options here so I can rehave the stolen iPad, which Apple helped the burglar to keep it or even sell it?

Apple didn't "help the burgler" do anything. Did she have a passcode on the device? If so, the thief would not have been able to access any of the functions needed to disable Find My Phone. Also, if the device doesn't show up in iCloud's Find My Phone, it may be that it is simply turned off, or not connected to a network.

Plug it into your computer. Tell it to sync with "this computer" instead of iCloud. You shouldn't have to remove any apps. Otherwise, you can save the app data by using i-FunBox ( http://www.i-funbox.com/ ) just go to the "devices" tab and select 'user applications' and select all of your apps and tell iFunBox to "copy to pc" you're done! You have them all backed up.

There was some updayts for my iPad 4 automatically downloaded. After installing it, the iPad began to restart itself every few minutes.

My iPad told me to update the iOS software. When I did, I immediately got a message that looks like it is telling me to connect the iPad to iTunes. When I do this, my computer recognizes the device as an "iPhone" that needs an update. This is not a phone, it's the iPad. I've tried rebooting with the off and circle button thing, but nothing works. Any advice?

1. Make sure that your device is not hidden (left hand pane). If it just reads device then toggle between SHOW and HIDE.
2. Try all the other ports on your computer, even a number of times.
3. Make sure your lead /connections are not faulty.
4. If you have another computer try plugging your device into it without taking any action, give it a moment, remove it and try it back in your other computer again.
5. Make sure you have the latest version of iTunes installed.
6. If using Widows, make sure all Windows Updates are installed.

If it's not too late, see Recovering your iTunes library from your iPod or iOS device. As long as you have a backup of the device when the device still held your photos you should stand a chance of recovering them using a tool such as iPhone Backup Extractor.
