Stolen Iphone 4s Serial Number

So, I was robbed a few months back. They got my iphone4s...find my phone app not enabled...passcode lock off.
I jammed home, suspended my service, filed a police report, and a few days later bought a new iphone while I tried(fruitlessly) to track my old one with icloud. I was a bit confused because all of my devices show up from my Macbook on icloud. The stolen iphone remained offline. So I have since erased the stolen iphone (but NOT removed it from my account), changed my password etc. I'm wondering if the Police may be able to find it if it turns up. Does erasing the iphone from icloud erase the serial number too? Should I remove it from my account? Any tips are greatly appreciated...These things aren't cheap!

Contact your wireless carrier. They should have your IMEI number on file.
However, what will you do with the IMEI number once you have it? It will not help you track or recover your device.

Another option is if you synced the iPhone with iTunes on the computer. If you did that, go into iTunes, go to Edit>Preferences>Devices, and locate your last backup. If you hover the mouse over that backup, it will display the serial number, phone number, IMEI, and UIUD.

Your question isn't at all clear. Is this a second-hand phone which has been locked by the previous user? In that case only the previous owner can unlock it, either by providing you with the account ID and password, or by removing it from his list of devices (as he should have done before selling it) - please see http://support.apple.com/kb/ts4515
If you unable to contact him to do this then I'm afraid you will not be able to use the device - there is no other way of unlocking it at all.
You should if possible return it to wherever you bought it and ask for a refund as in this event the device is completely useless.
You should not post serial numbers or any other personal data here; I've asked the Hosts to remove it.

I am not sure whether you mean " IMEI or MEID " - but most there will say no. It can be done by some cellular providers and 3rd parties(for a fee, usually). Your cellular provider can "Blacklist" using the number.

If you don't setup iCloud & turn on/activate Find My Phone, then there is no way to track your phone.

Well, Apple does not connect an iPhone to a network, cellular service providers do that (it is their network afterall, not Apple's).
And yes, if restored as new, anyone can use an iPhone as they wish. If yours was stolen, you need to talk to the police about justice over it.

You shouldn't need the serial number with taking it to an Apple Store unless it has changed. Your cell phone number should be enough.

Finding stolen iPad using serial number

My iPad 1 was stolen in September. I tried using MobileMe, but because it was the simple WiFi version, MobileMe couldn't find it. I had an unlock password set up, so the thief probably did a full reset of the iPad to use it. In any case, when everything moved to iCloud, my iPad did not follow and I was told by a tech that it won't, so I have no way of using MobileMe to find my iPad now.
That being said, can't Apple notify me if someone tries to register an iPad with my serial number? Parenthetically, I get 2-10 emails a week about trying to reset my Apple ID password; is it possible the thief is trying to get my ID? (I'll go ask that Q in the appropriate forum later.)

You'd think that since Apple automatically 'sees' the serial number when the device is plugged in, they could use this info. Oh well.
And yeah, don't you worry, all my passwords were changed that very evening. I was on a plane for eight hours after I noticed my iPad wasn't in my bag and I was paranoid that I'd land and find everything had been hacked! But this continuous stream of Apple ID emails is still making me nervous, even if it does try to reassure you with the "If you didn't ask to reset this password, don't worry!" message. When you get two a day daily for two weeks, it does make you worry, ok Apple?!
Never getting another iPad ever again... too much anxiety and hassle and no ROI, even before it was stolen! Sticking to my iPhone and BOOKS!
