Apple has not saidwhy they did it that way and it is against the terms of this forum to speculate on the reasons. It says not to:

The are third-party programs like TouchCopy that I think will allow you to do what you want. You can import photos via DropBox. The third-party programs will I know allow you to transfer the photos to your "new" computer.

I am planning a long vacation and taking my laptop but it is my home computer that my new ipad and ipod touch are synced too. I know i can backup to the cloud over wifi but how can i do things like delete photo albums

I know i can backup to the cloud over wifi but how can i do things like delete photo albums instead of having to manually delete pictures one by one on the Ipad. Is there any way also to add my pictures to the ipad other than through email. i am assuming that i can't just install itunes on the laptop and sync to that. I have been told that i always have to sync to my original synced home computer for that.

We are fellow users here on these forums, you're not talking to iTunes Support nor Apple - I've asked the hosts to remove your iPod's serial number address from your post.
Only you can activate your iPod by typing in your id and password, or you can remove a device from your account via http://icloud.com . If you can't remember your account id then do you have any of its downloads on your computer's iTunes : Recovering a forgotten iTunes Store account name ? If not then you could try http://iforgot.apple.com . You can also reset your password via the 'iforgot' site, or you can contact Support in your country and they should be able to reset your password (as long as you can prove your id and that it's your account) : Apple ID: Contacting Apple for help with Apple ID account security

If the phone is turned off, doesn't have an internet connection, or has been restored preventing "Find my iPhone" from being able to work, there is no other way to track it.

If you set up the Find My iPod service prior to the iPod going missing - the app is for tracking an iOS device from another iOS device - then there is a chance that can be tracked, though it depends on a number of factors (the iPod is turned on, connected to a WiFi network, and has not had the Find My iPod service disabled). Log into icloud.com and go to the Find My iPhone section. Note, though, that you'll only get the location of the WiFi router to which the iPod is connected; there's no way to pinpoint the exact location of the iPod itself.
If you did not set up Find My iPod, then there is no way to track it. Notify the police and change any passwords for any online accounts you may have used from your iPod (the iTunes Store, for instance).

Your i-device was not designed for unique storage of your media. It is not a backup device and media transfer was planned with you maintaining a master copy of your media on a computer which is itself independently backed up against loss. To use a device with a new computer you transfer the content from the old computer (or its backup) directly to the new computer, not the device to the new computer. Media syncing is one way, computer to device, updating the device content to the content on the computer, not updating or restoring content on a computer. The exception is iTunes Store purchases which can be transferred to a computer.

I sent my brother an 4th generation iPod Touch abroad. I locked it so no one else could open it when it got to customs, and I forgot the passcode. He's not very technologically inclined, so I had set EVERYTHING (email, address book, apps, etc.) up for him. Anyway, when I set up the iPod thru iCloud, I never sync'd it to iTunes. I did everything through my wifi network. Now we have exhausted all our attempts to the passcode, and the iPod is premanently locked and asking to be connected to iTunes. And my brother doesn't own a computer. Is there ANY way we can still reset the passcode or do something so that he can access it?

The iPod will have to be restored via iTunes. You will have to place the iPod in recovery mode to to allow a restore since there is no syncing vcomputer. For recovery mode see:

You can redownload apps by:

If you set up the iPod to backup to iCloud then after you restore you can restore from that backup. The backup will conain your mail, contacts and other settings. If you have no backup thant it will be like a new iPOd.

The music sync is one way - computer to ipod. The only exception is itunes purchases. Without syncing: File>Transfer Purchases
It has always been very basic to always maintain a backup copy of your comptuer for just such an occasion. use your backup copy to put everything back.

If you restore from iCloud backup the apps will be automatically downloaded. If you restore from iTunes backup the apps and music have to be in the iTunes library since synced media like apps and music are not included in the backup of the iOS device that iTunes makes.

Ipod will not sync to itunes, just stops half way and freezes the computer

my ipod has suddenly stopped syncing to itunes half way through and freezes the computer. it is not the songs because they sync to my phone. how can i fix this?

Have you tried plugging the Nano into another available USB port or using another USB sync cable? Does it seem to be freeze when syncing the same track?
I assume iTunes is up to date (10.7 at the time of this writing).

D'oh! Just got an iPad2 but my PC is frozen (permanently). Is it possible to set up/sync my ipad 2 any other way?

Well, the subject header pretty much says it all. My wife bought me an iPad2 for Christmas buit my PC has been on deaded for a while now. Is it possible to sync my iPad2 from another source, say my iPhone4? Assuming that is possible, will I ever be able to update my iTunes without my PC? Assuming that I can't sync my iPad from home, can someone at an Apple storepossibvly help? I have a sick feeling that I am S.O.L. here, but I hope that somrone here can tell me otherwise! If the new iPad 2 came with iOS 5 already installed, it may be possible to activate it without the computer. If it is not apparent, or the instructions in the box did not say how, you probably will need a computer to get started. The Apple Store would be the best place to go if that is convenient.
