Stolen MacBook SERIAL # edited by host

Hi
Recently I had my MacBook (REFURB Model from the Apple Refurb Store) 2GHZ Core Duo/512Mb stole with SERIAL NUMBER <edited by host>
Anyway what is my best course of action as regards contacting Apple etc & what can they do & could the MB be traced via the SN?
I have a SCC (Small Claims Court Order) in process + the Police have been notified.
Thanks and help would be appreciated
Nb

Contact local authorities and provide them with the
information. Apple really cannot do much unless
somebody brings it in for repairs which probably
won;t happen.
There is no serial number tracing system. Apple
would be lambasted by privacy groups for doing that.
Ok Paul
Thanks for replying and i'll try that.
cheers

  • STOLEN MacBook Pro (13-inch, Mid 2012) Serial number: C1*******TY4

    Hello to everyone,
My Macbook Pro was stolen while travelling in China on my way from Yangshuo to Guilin.
I know its maybe just another post about a stolen computer for everybody but I have to try anyways !
The serial number is as stated above: C1*******TY4
I have read countless articles and surfed the web for answers and advices on how to find my stolen Macbook.
I only have the Air Port ID but not the IP adress and pre installed ICloud or tracking software alas...It has been reported to the police though
If anybody has suggestions, infos, tips, anything, please contact me.
Thank you in advance to everyone willing to contribute in any way possible because I am very frustrated and out of options.

If you have your iCloud set up, you can use the iCloud service to see if your macbook is online. Go to http://www.icloud.com sign in with your apple ID and click on find my iPhone. On the top left under Devices make sure your Macbook is selected. It will display a rough approximation on it's location based on the whatever wired or wireless network it is connected to. Other than that, there isn't much you can do unless the idiot trys to sell it in Ebay or the police catches him before he/she sells it. Good luck.

    Welcome to Apple Support Communities
The serial number doesn't tell us anything. Open  > About this Mac > More Info, and tell us the first two lines of the window, where you should see MacBook Pro and a line below, which indicates the model you have:
That's what I see on my Mac. AirPlay Mirroring requires an Early 2011 or newer MacBook Pro, so if you see Early 2011 MacBook Pro or newer in that line, you can use AirPlay Mirroring. Read > http://support.apple.com/kb/HT5404
If you want to upgrade, make a backup of your files and check that your applications are compatible > http://www.roaringapps.com Then, open the Mac App Store and purchase Mountain Lion. When the download finishes, the Mountain Lion installer will appear, so follow the steps. After upgrading, you will see the AirPlay icon on the menu bar.
If you don't want to upgrade, you can use an application like Beamer or AirParrot

  • Stolen macbook pro, offline, no serial #, not registered...help!

I have a dire looking situation with a stolen macbook pro. It was stolen from me in an airport and its offline, no luck with icloud. I did not keep the box, nor the receipt (as i was traveling), I had not even registered it yet, it was brand new, and now I have no idea where to find the serial number.  I contacted Best Buy (bought off their website) to see if they keep serial numbers on sales, they said they didn´t, as I didnt have thier protection plan.
Am I completely out of luck??

    andreaceleste,
did you pay for it with a credit card? If so, that might be your only remaining proof of having purchased one at all. Of course, that won’t reveal what its serial number is. You’ll need to report its theft to whichever police force is in charge of that airport to have any chance of reïmbursement through your insurance company — be sure to keep all information provided to you by that police force, so that you can provide that information to your insurance company.

This is a user-to-user support site not a place to reach techs. You can make a Genius Bar appointment at your nearest Apple Store and see if you can do an out-of-warranty replacement or you can use a 3rd party repair site.

Anyone have any suggestions of sites/forums etc. where I can list the stolen serial?

I got 2 points to prove you're wrong:
    1) What if that husband goes and kills the wife after she left him, but he previosly set iCloud app? Would you consider Apple responsible for that? OBVIOUSLY NOT. So your point is totally wicked.
    2) Since my Macbook was stolen before iCloud was out, i think it would be VERY nice from them to help me find MY macbook since i payed for it.
Your statement is completely wrong, and has nothing to do with the discussion anyways.
Think about what you want. If implemented anyone could contact Apple and ask for the location of an Apple computer. I don't want Apple giving out any location information about my computer. What if someone sold you a computer then contacted Apple saying the computer was stolen in order to locate it (and you). You would be OK with Apple giving out your location to someone who could have criminal intent?
Apple is in the computer business. The police are in the crime business. Contact the police then go buy yourself a replacement computer.

Sorry if my English isn't correct because of I'm Italian.
You must switch on the lost mode on the app " Find my iPhone ".
If you can see it on the map of this app, you will know where is your iPhone in that moment.
REMEMBER: you can see your iPhone on the map of  " Find my iPhone"  only if it is online. Indeed you can't see your iPhone if it's offlined or switched of.

You can use iCloud to lock it if you had that set up. Otherwise, the only thing to do is report the theft to the police. You may want to contact your homeowner's insurance to see if it would be worth filing a claim with them also.

If you have Homeowners insurance, place a claim with them.

Never post your serial number or email address in online forums. I will have a moderator remove it. This is a user forum. I am sorry your MBP was stolen but there is nothing we nor Apple can do about it. Report the theft to the police, get a report and then contact your insurance company.

  • Can I locate my stolen macbook pro?

On 12th November my Macbook Pro (S/N: W8*****YJX) was stolen in Pushkar fair, Rajasthan, India. The incident was reported to the Police Station. But nothing happened till date. Can it be located by any means? The machine had an iCloud registered. But I've failed to locate it.
    <Edited by Host>

You are very welcome, we are all here to help and glad to be of assistance.
The biggest risk to publishing the SN is that some unscrupulous people can then use the SN to play registration games and claim to own your equipment.  Plus there are other issues with people on the internet knowing the SN and accessing the equipment, i.e., hacking your computer.
Since we are all fellow users on here and not Apple employees, there is nothing we can do with the SN to help, so just protect yourself by not putting that info out there.  Of course, that advice is not unique to the ASC, it applies to any and all discussion boards.  Keep private information private.
    Just some thoughts on security.

  • Stolen Macbook help

    Here's my situation
My macbook was stolen in a home burglary last week along with a array of valuable things. It is a 15 Inch Macbook Pro from 2009 with the latest OS (Yosemite). When I realized it was gone I immediately went onto Find my Mac and erased the contents of my mac remotely. When I did that I also entered a code so that I can unlock my mac if I ever found it. I found the serial number and reported it to my insurance company and the police. A day later, I got an alert telling me my macbook turned up around 16 miles from my location and gave me an exact address. I am in the process of filing a report with the city where my macbook was located on Find my Mac.
    Here's my questions
    1. Can I still track my macbook's location with Find my Mac even though now it has all the data permanently erased?
    2. Do the thieves still have a chance of using the stolen macbook even after having it erased? I mean, I did set a code and everything.
    3. Would Apple know my macbook was stolen if the thieves took it to a Apple Store for repair and checked the serial number.
    4. Could the thieves potentially reregister the Macbook under their name, lying that they got the macbook (legally) preowned, if so, how do I stop them?

    1. No.
    2. Yes.
    3. Only if they checked the serial number.
    4. No.
What To Do If Your iDevice Is Lost Or Stolen
    iPhone, iPod Touch, and iPad
If you activated Find My Phone before it was lost or stolen, you can track it only if it is connected to the Internet by Wi-Fi or cellular. What you cannot do is track your device using a serial number or other identifying number. You cannot expect Apple or anyone else to find your device for you. You cannot recover your loss unless you insure your device for such loss. It is not covered by your warranty.
If your iPhone, iPod, iPod Touch, or iPad is lost or stolen what do you do? There are things you should have done in advance - before you lost it or it was stolen - and some things to do after the fact. Here are some suggestions:
This link, Re: Help! I misplaced / lost my iPhone 5 today morning in delta Chelsea hotel downtown an I am not able to track it. Please help!, has some good advice regarding your options when your iDevice is lost or stolen.
