Stolen Password, blocked devices

Few days ago, my Apple ID password was "stolen". I realized this because they used the "Find my iPad/iPhone" app to block both of my devices. By some kind of accident I was able to restore my iPhone, losing all my contacts, but I didn't run with that luck on my iPad. It is still locked and I tried a lot of combinations without any good response. I also tried to get into iCloud or anything, but they also changed my password, my personal data, and even my e-mail contact, so when I try to restore my Apple ID password, neither the e-mail authentification and the security questions are possible and even trying to restore it with iTunes. I know this is a lost case, but I need to be sure, is there any way to have my iPad back? and some way to change my ID on my devices without the actual password?

The steps outlined in Techfreak's post, above, are the steps to take to reach Skype's Customer Service unit.  Yes, Skype employs a longer web-form than most companies who use the customer service web-form plan.
You may have a problem if you cannot verify the account details.  If you continue to reach an impasse, you might try creating a new Skype account to use, in order to contact Skype Customer Service, to deal with the first account's issues. 
Another thing to add to your "To Do" list: report the unauthorized charge to the issuer of the payment method you have/had on file, including any third-party payment processing service if you use one (such as PayPal).

    If you enabled iCloud on your device and enabled Find My iPhone on the device, then you can view the iPhone or iPad location at www.icloud.com .  Use your iCloud login details and then click on Find my iPhone.
    If Find My iPhone was not enabled on your device or your device does not have an internet connection or has been turned off then there is nothing you can do to view the location and track your device.
    If your device has been stolen, report it stolen to your carrier and the police and change all your passwords.  This is what you do when you lose your phone or it is stolen support.apple.com/kb/ht5668

  • Impossible to de-authorising Apple IDs on lost, stolen, broken computers/devices.

    This is more of a statement than a question, and to find the views of other itunes users, as I already know the official Apple stance on this.
    You can only have 5 devices assigned to share any one apple ID. When you want to add another you have to de-authorise one of the previous ones. This can only be done on the device/computer that the authorisation was made from.
    Here is my point.....
    I am now stuck on 5 devises, when only 3 are in use. The other 2 devise can't send the de-authorisation request, as one is totally dead and the other passed to a friend.
    Just like most people, I do not read all the way through apple agreements. Besides, some of the practical issues with using apple products, are not all within the agreement anyway. Some of this stuff is trial and error, just like most things in life. Or you find it when you come up against a problem. Yes, I would have de-authorised the computer that I gave to my friends daughter, if I knew that I had to do that. But, how many people really would know to do this? I am by no means, somebody who just hits install without reading options and clicking next like it was going out of fashion. But when I formatted the computer I gave away, I did not think for one minute that I would have had to de-authorise the ID, I really don't think many other people would either.
    There are a few instances were de-authorisation is impossible from the original device/computer. Your device is stolen. Your devices was lost. Your device has a component change that has an impact on the authorisation. I think you get the point. So even if a person knew all the ins and outs to the apple agreement over itunes IDs etc. You could still be in my position due to the examples I have just listed.
    It would be way easier for the owner of the ID, to be able to log into their apple account on line and manage their authorisations/devices. Not only would this option be easier and more efficient. But, and this is a big but. it would also be way more secure. A lost or stolen device will have a certain measure of risk to your security about it. OK, a third party may not know your password to gain access on the device. But why give any chance at all? Besides, in certain situations, a device will have other security issues that any of your apple info could be exploited for. Being able to use the lost/stolen device to gain access to your network and fleece your apple content, springs to mind for starters.
    This whole situation really comes off as being at least an over sight by apple, and at worse just plain stupid, when you compare it to options for your itunes in the cloud account. Because, with this you do get the option to de-authorise any device from your web account, and does not have to be done on the device itself. Go figure!!!!!
    It's really frustrating to say the least. I am a Windows PC user, who has worked on that platform since WFW, for doing pro audio and film production. But I have to be honest. For day to day personal use, you just can't beat the IOS platform and the hand held devices by apple. I love this stuff so much, that my home and personal entertainment needs are all fairly much covered by IOS. It may not be the very best, but it beats everything else hands down for convenience and intergration. Microsoft, Google and everyone else, all make great portable operating systems and devices. But for my use, IOS really does have the edge. This is why it so frustrating that the only solution to my problem. Is to wait another 7 months before I can de-authorise my whole account and start again. This is such a stupid solution, what brainiac at apple got paid for that idea?
    Anyway, I would love to hear from other users on this point, or anyone from apple who can point out why this is the way it is, or if I am missing the point.

    Thanks for your really quick reply. I don't want to sound unappreciative, but I have a few questions in regard to what you have said.
    How does this limitation help the reducution in possible abuse of the "iTunes Store authorization mode"?
    Would this explination then mean that the "iTunes in the iCloud" authorisation options are at risk of abuse? As this option uses the very same method that you say is not used for " iTunes Store authorization model" to avoid abuse.
    Why is this option of itunes store staff being able to perform additional de-authorisations, not mentioned on the user account pages, or in deed anywhere that I could see on the itunes site.
    Again, if I am missing some obvious point here, please do let me know.

    But I have still one Point which makes me a Problem!!!
    Everything works, except mounting the device....
    It always Sais me: "not a block device"

    The Storage Device is a Netgear Ready NAS 2100.
    Netgear Ready NAS with a Linux os.
    The OS Supports different Protocols like: CIFS / FTP / HTTP/ iSCSI etc...
    Now im trying to use an other protocoll (cifs) to store the data on the Netgear NAS.
    i found smbclient and was able to open a connection to the NAS.

Laptop bag with MacBook Pro, iPad and Android Tablet were stolen at a tradeshow last week - so I found the ERASE setting thru iCloud - NOW the devices are all FOUND and being shipped back to me. (HORRAY!!) But, is there a way to UNDO the Erase setting that I clicked on?

    Great news on finding your lost devices! That has got to be a major relief. The following Knowledge Base article offers the possible ways of restoring your data onto your devices after an erase has been performed:
    iCloud: Erase your device
    If you erase then find your iOS device, you can restore the information on the device using iCloud Backup (if backup was turned on before you erased it) or iTunes. For more information, see iCloud storage and backup overview, or the Safety, Handling & Support section of the iOS 8 user guide for your iPhone, iPad, or iPod touch. If your device has iOS 7 or earlier, get the user guide from the Apple Support website. 
    If you erase then find your Mac, you can restore the information on the Mac using a Time Machine backup. For more information, see the Apple Support article Recover your entire system. If you set an EFI firmware password on your Mac before it was lost, then erase it and later find it, you may need to take your Mac to an authorized repair center to unlock it before you can use it again.

    Hi,
    To create Oracle ASM disks, there are some steps to do:
    - Have raw Disks, and you don't have then you can create a pseudo disks with the command dd us yours.
    - Install ASMLib
    - Use the /etc/init.d/oracleasm to configure, create ASM disks
    The command dd creates a pseudo-block disk, and this a solution: Create virtual RAW disks for Oracle ASM on Linux with single Hard Drive
    # dd if=/dev/zero of=/asm/disk4 bs=1M count=2000
    # losetup /dev/loop4 /asm/disk4
    # /etc/init.d/oracleasm createdisk ASM4 /dev/loop4
    After the creation, you should scan your ASM disks: Wadhah DAOUEHI - Creation of ASM disks on Oracle Linux using ASMLib
    # /etc/init.d/oracleasm scandisks
    # /etc/init.d/oracleasm listdisks

    I’m trying to experiment with ASM for learning purpose. Because I don’t have access to a SAN, I am trying to use NFS files but I can’t manage to have ASM mark those files as ASM disks.
    [root@localhost /]# /etc/init.d/oracleasm createdisk ASM_DISK_1 /mnt/asm_dsks/dg1/disk1
    Marking disk "ASM_DISK_1" as an ASM disk: [FAILED]
    The oracleasm log says: File "/mnt/asm_dsks/dg1/disk1" is not a block device
    OK, more context now:
    I am trying to install ASM on a RHEL5 virtual machine (on vmware).
    [root@localhost /]# uname -rm
    2.6.18-8.el5 x86_64
    I followed this document:

    /etc/init.d/oracleasm createdisk ...
    Now, the NFS filesystem comes from a Solaris 10 system (the only one that's available) running on a physical sun box (this one is not a virtual system).
    I have tried many combinations. I tried creating the files on the linux VM, using dd. As root, as oracle. I tried creating them on the Solaris side, using mkfile... no matter what I try, I always get the same issue.
    I tried to follow this document: Creating Files on a NAS Device for Use with ASM (http://download.oracle.com/docs/html/B10811_05/app_nas.htm#BCFHCIEC)
    But nothing seems to work.
    Any idea, recommendations?

    I guess the metalink note 731775.1 should help You.
    In fact the procedure is:
    - Create the disk devices on your NFS directory (using dd)
    - Adjuste the permissions over those files (in this case, oracle:dba)
    - Adjust the ASM_DISKSTRING at the ASM instance and setting the NFS directory in the discovery path
    - Verify if they are available at v$asm_disk view
    - Create the diskgroup using the the NFS disks that You have created.

  • User Mode Block Device Driver

    Hi,
    I want to write a block device driver in user mode so that the read and write calls from the FileSystem comes to user mode component than a regular kernel mode driver.
    why i want to do this ... because I want to pass on the data coming to another apps and the data is near real time and large. So, I can't keep the block driver in kernel mode and do transfer of data from kernel mode to user mode.
    Can this be done ... ? I have been looking at various things but nothing comes close. Any hints will be helpful.

    Well. The 2 user apps cannot talk directly as User APPs2 only understands block I/O requests as input so it has to have a FS over it which is ext3. User APPs1 is an application that runs over FS and writes to it like windows explorer.
    The Problem is I am not able to find a way to write a user mode block driver. Why I want this to be user mode so that I can interface to Virtual disk below which is a user mode application, i.e. User Apps2.
    I can write a kernel mode block driver there but it would not be efficient as I will have to push it from kernel mode to user mode for userapps2.
    I hope it explains....

    After trying to boot my system after a few days of it remaining off, it fails to boot with:
    Booting the kernel.
    ERROR: resume: hibernation device '/dev/sda9' not found
    mount: /dev/root is not a valid block device
    You are now being dropped into an emergency shell.
    sh: can't access tty; job control turned off.
    [rootfs /]#
    The sda9 error has been around for quite some time, even back when it was working and I've been ignoring it all these days.

    I did try that. Now after a few suggestions on #archlinux, I'm using LABEL's instead of device names, and SYSLINUX. The scene isn't much different, now it complains that it can't find "LABEL=Arch" instead. Here's the current fstab:

    I'm setting up a new RAC on RHEL5.1 using device mapper for multipath functionality.
    How should I set the permissions for the block devices I'm going to use for ocr, voting and asm?

    You are right about udev changing drastically between RHEL 4 and RHEL 5. The paper I referred to does include some guidelines for setting permissions for RHEL 5 as well. Here are some relevant extracts from the same pdf document:-
    # From udev.permissions section
    This file was obsoleted in later versions of the 2.6 kernels such as SLES10, RHEL5 and
    Oracle Enterprise Linux 5 (OEL5), that functionality was merged into the rules files, which is explained later in this paper
    ...and later you will find this example in the document
    For RHEL5, OEL5, SLES10
    • Create a file /etc/udev/rules.d/99-raw.rules with the following content
    with the following content
    KERNEL=="raw[1-2]*", GROUP="oinstall", MODE="640"
    KERNEL=="raw[3-5]*", OWNER="oracle", GROUP="oinstall", MODE="660"
    /etc/udev/rules.d/50-udev.rules on Centos 5 gives plenty of examples of settings for all different types of devices. We really need to specify OWNER, GROUP and MODE for devices that RAC will use in a rules file.

    For performance reasons, I'd like to migrate my .img file based virtual disks into physical partitions for VM's.
    What is the safest possible way to migrate all partitions (including / partition) from a virtual disk to a block device?

Your VMs need to be offline while you do this. Once you've done this, you can use Oracle VM Manager to remove the original .img file and replace it with the physical block device copy. This is low-risk, as the .img file will still be there if the new block device doesn't work.
    Keep in mind that you will need a unique block device for every .img file you have.

    i have created a solaris lun and trying to view the same from my solaris console. i want to perform i/o operations on the lun; how do i mount it? 'coz mount command gives "not a block device" error.

    It depends on the specific driver, but you usually want to mount the 'dsk' device and not the 'rdsk' device.
