Stolen phone- buying a new one (price?)

I just bought my upgraded phone for $200 in January but it was stolen last night. If I purchase a new 16g phone with my contract how much is it going to cost me?

Copied from my first post in your other thread asking if you will get a replacement iPhone for free.
If you want another iPhone, you must purchase another. If you purchased the iPhone at AT&T's subsidized or discounted price, you will pay full price this time, *which will cost you $400 more than you paid originally.*
The full retail sales price for the 16GB iPhone 4 is $400 more than AT&T's subsidized or discounted price. AT&T's subsidized or discounted price for the 16GB iPhone 4 is $199 plus applicable sales tax. The full retail sales price for the 16GB iPhone 4 is $599 plus applicable sales tax.

All contacts, calendars, photos etc should be on your computer as the iphone is designed to be synced to your computer.
Just sync them to your new iphone.

There's a couple options. It's not the easiest. Another way to not have to wait is to call V from another phone 8009220204 and they can activate it and walk you thru settings. Depending on where youre located CS might be closed but if you got the prompt for emergency tech support they are 24/7.

There is no way around the activation lock. You apparently decided to use the phone with someone else's ID set up for an iCloud (and find my iPhone) account before updating. Since Find My iPhone was active, updating to iOS 7 has automatically turned on the activation lock. If you do not have the Apple ID and password that were previously used, then the phone is now useless. You can't activate it without that informaion.
Talk to whoever you bought the phone from if you can. If you can't, buy a new phone.

  • Any opinions on if I should repair my old powerbook or just buy a new one?

    Alright, here's the situation.
I have a Tipowerbook 867 (upgraded to 512 ram) that's a bit over two and a half years old. Over this two plus year period, I have used this powerbook quite a lot, pretty much every single day for several hours at a minimum. Well, the other day when I was picking it up off a chair, it half slipped out of my hand, and before I could catch it the left hinge hit the floor pretty good, and the little part of the hinge that goes up into the display is now pulled out, and the hinge does not rotate. This also exacerbated some small stress cracks in the light grey outer case of the bottom part right beneath the same hinge. Apple gave me a quote of about 600 dollars to fix it. I also plan to call around to some third party places to see if they can do it cheaper, but do not expect it to be less then 3-400 to get it fixed. If I did get it fixed, I would also want to buy a new battery as well (a cost of around $120), as the one I have currently is at 581 cycles, and does not last very long any more. This computer also has little things wrong that don't bother me overly much, but I still notice from time to time, like 2 or 3 little scratches on the screen and one longer one, plus it seems to have gained a dead pixel or two recently.
Now, the decision I'm trying to make is whether it would be better to get this one repaired, or whether to just try and sell it for whatever it gets (a couple hundred dollars plus, I figure?), and buy one of the new 1.67ghz modals for $1899 (including apple care)taxa gig of ram.
If I got the current one repaired, I could see it lasting another 6 months or year, but probably not longer then that. The advantages I see in the new one are:
    Double the processor speed,
    Quadruple the graphics card memory,
Triple the ram (I sometimes feel like this one has too little, but don't want to put more in it cause I'd have to trash one of the sticks in it, which reduces the net gain quite a bit, so I figure I'll just stick another gig in the new one, if I get it)
the bigger screen res (I use the entire screen most of the time currently, and I have good eyesight, so I see this as a good thing)
The larger HD (not a big deal, but I have been running into the upper limit of this one from time to time, but not without crap I can delete to free up space)
The stuff like the firewire 800 port, usb 2.0 port, and airport extreme card I see as nice, but not a real big deal to me, as I probably wouldn't get much use out of them in the near future.
The two finger scrolling thing might be helpful, but I use a little shareware program called sidetrack currently, which gives me similar results.
The powerbooks were updated recently, and so will probably remain current a little bit longer.
It seems like a decent time in regard to the intel transition, since most (or at least some) of the bugs and incompatibilities will probably be worked out by the time I need to buy a new one.
So, I see lots of pluses to getting a new one, but am not sure if there are 13 or 14 hundred dollars worth of plusses.
If I do get a new computer, it will definitely be a powerbook, because I love being able to spend most of my time on the computer from my bed, and also being able to go upstairs and sit next to my dad on the couch and surf the web from there, and an ibook wouldn't do it for me, since I use the entire screen currently for various programs.
The programs that I use most frequently are things like safari, ichat, mail, word, etc, but I do acquire a penchant for game playing from time to time, and suspect that this might make a resurgence if I did buy a new one--it would be nice to be able to play something like America's Army or UT2k4 with an actually playable frame rate (I don't even really care about the quality of the graphics, as long as it's playable).
I also have considered trying out things like 3d modeling and messing about with imovie to see what I came up with, but am not sure how much those would benefit from the new computer.
I am currently a freshman at a local junior college, and think it's fairly likely that I'll transfer to a four year collage down the road in 2-3 years.
So basically, my decision comes down to this: Do I repair this one, and hope it lasts 6-12 months more, at which point I probably buy the current 15" powerbook, or do I spring for the new one now, and hope it serves my needs for the next 3 or so years down the road.
I'm sort of drawn to the new one, but also can't see anything terribly wrong with this one, and think that it might serve the majority of my needs (but possibly fewer of my wants) for a year or so to come.
The money is not a huge issue to me, I'll have to pay it sometime, and I was already planning to try to get a side job refereeing fencing tournaments for a bit of extra cash.
The way I lean on this decision depends on when you ask me, it varies from really deciding that I'd like and enjoy the new one to feeling like it would be kind of silly and it would be better to wait, but not liking having to repair this one to gain back what I already had.
Anybody have any helpful suggestions or comments that might help to tip me one direction or the other?
    -Larry
P.S. Thanks for reading my somewhat long winded post, I'm the kind of person who really likes trying to quantify everything I can, and so I did.

    Ok.
For starters, there is a Titanium thread, where you can get some more help, but my main Mac is a Ti, so let's get to it.
    the hinge does not rotate
This is common on older TiBooks. I pray everytime I open mine.
to be less then 3-400 to get it fixed
    Seems about right.
sell it for whatever it gets
Ebay is the place to go for current value on older technology. You will get the best price there as well. Look around eBay for similar models, with hinge damage like yours.
Frankly, the new Powerbooks are really nice. My roomate has one, and they are much studier than these TiBooks. You will not be disappointed. I would wait until MacExpo the 2nd week of January to see what Apple has to pull out of their hat as far as possible Powerbook or iBook options. No one knows for sure what--if any--new products will be released in the near future.
Larry, what do you do on the Mac? What do you need from it? You can pick up an iBook for as little as $999. You can also look online at the Apple Store refurbs (A link on the Apple Store site will take you there) for cheaper models.
I think your Ti has seen a good life... I vote for moving on.

  • I am moving to Europe - can I bring my Verizon iphone 5 or should I buy a new one there?

    Hello,
I am moving to Europe, specificaly France, soon and would like to know if I should bring my Verizon iphone 5, or just buy a new one there, since I will have to start a new contract with a European phone company while I am there. I haven't bought my new iphone 5 yet (because I am waiting for this answer) but my mother is alligble for an upgrade with her Verizon account and can get a brand new Verizon iphone 5 for a great deal. She was going to give it to me, but I am leaving for France in 3 months where I will be living there for at least a year. I was going to just purchase a new iphone 5 with one of the European phone companies (like Orange or Vodaphone, ect.) since I will be getting a good deal on them too (when signing up for a new contract), but if the Verizon iphone will work exactly the same over in Europe, I would rather get it now. Either way, I will be spending about the same amount of money. Will I be restricted somehow using a US iphone 5 in Europe, or are the US iphone 5's any different from the iphone 5's in Europe (or tide to European phone companies? Do they offer an insurance plan? (I'm not sure if this even exists in the US. I will be a new iphone user!) I'm just curious what which iphone will be more efficitant to use, since I will be spending most of my time in Europe.
    I appreciate you answer!!

Click on the links on the right for some good information. The only concern is that a phone purchased in the States will only be seviced for any repairs in the States. You will not have any warranty coverage in France.

  • I have an iPhone 5 from India. I am going to USA for studying. Can I use the same iPhone over there or I will have to buy a new one?

I have an iPhone 5 from India. I am going to USA for studying. Can I use the same iPhone over there or I will have to buy a new one?

If officially unlocked, you can purchase a sim from one of the two nationwide GSM carriers, AT&T or T-Mobile. However, AFAIK, none of the carriers in India offer unlocking for the iPhone. Thus, if your phone is carrier locked, the only way it will work in the US is roaming...that would cost a fortune.
So, if you have a carrier locked iPhone, leave it home or sell it before you come to the US, then purchase an officially unlocked iPhone, from Apple, when you get to the US. You'll be able to use that phone in India when you go back.

  • My iPhone 4 broke so I had to buy a new one.  I backed up the old one on iTunes and when I went to restore the new one it won't allow me to because it is saying that I have the wrong password.  I tried changing the password and it still won't work. HELP!

My iPhone 4 screen shattered so I had to buy a new one.  I backed up my shattered iPhone to iTunes so that I could restore my new one.  When I went to restore it, it said that I had an incorrect password although I know it was right.  I tried changing the password and it still told me that I had an incorrect password.  So now my new phone has lost all its pictures, its music, its apps.... is there anything I can do to get my phone to restore?? PLEASE HELP!

If you can't get the password correct, you CANNOT restore from that backup.
However, if you've been using your phone as recommended by Apple, there should be minimal data loss.
Your iTunes library is on your computer, so you can synch all your apps, music, movies, ringtones, etc, on to your new phone.
Similarly, contacts should be synched to Address Book, Outlook, or a cloud service for you to easily synch back to your new phone.
Pictures taken from your old phone and not synched to your computer are lost, but you would have been synching those photos to your computer frequently as recommended.  Other photos that you synch TO your iPhone are still on your computer.
You won't be able to get text messages back.

  • I lost my iphone in the dominican republic but I am technically still covered in the 90 day warranty can I have it replaced or will I have to buy a new one?

I take my sim out of my phone so that I won't be tempted to make phone calls while abroad. I now have the issue of having lost my phone and not being able to find it with the "Find My Iphone". I am still technically under a 90 day warranty but can my phone be replaced or do I have to buy a new one?

The warranty covers defects in manufacturing and workmanship. If your phone is not operating properly and has not been physically damaged, it will be replaced under warranty.
The warranty is NOT insurance against theft or loss.
You will have to purchase a new phone.

Replacement iphone(hardly one month old phone) is a new one or refurbished ?
I am facing lot of issues with my iphone 3gs.Please i request you guys dont buy any apple products here.its waste.I bought my iphone one moth back when i use GPRS(internet ) on my phone .it will shut down and gets heated.Went to imagine(Authorised apple service center)they said will replace the phone when i went to collect the phone they said it a new one when i check the connector it was having all dust in it.WHEN I ASKED THEN AGAIN THEY SAY ITS  A NEW PRODUCT.HOW COME A NEW PRODUCT HAS DUST COLLECTED IN CONNECTOR DOCK.
Replace the phone with a brand new phone.

There should be no way to tell.  The dealer/store shouldn't know either.  It should be good as new.
The warranty clearly states that it can be a refurb unit.  You have no say in the matter.

  • HT201412 My Ipad quit working - it's 2 years old.  I called Apple and they basically told me that it's done.  I can pay 249.00 to get a reburbished Ipad 1, or buy a new one.  I want to know why it died?  They mentione it could be the hard drive.

My Ipad 1 quit working after 2 years.  Was never dropped, abused, etc.  Just quit the other night.  Went to the Apple store, called the support line and they tell me that since the warranty is up I can pay 249.00 for a refurbished Ipad or buy a new one.  Not happy at all.  I want to know why it quit.  The person I talked to at Support says he doesn't know what happened.  He says it sounds like my hard drive crashed.  ANyone else have this problem?  I am so mad.

If the tech you talked to said anything about a "hard drive", he was completely ignorant or misspeaking rather badly. The iPads have no hard drive; the storage is all solid state. You may wish to talk to another technician, or make an appointment at an Apple Store if there's one near you, and confirm the diagnosis of a hardware failure.
If you've confirmed that it is indeed a hardware failure, then you can pay the replacement price, find an independent iPad service shop and see if they can do a repair for less, or buy a new iPad. If it were me I would put the money toward a new, or at least newer, iPad rather than pay the replacement charge. You can get some good deals on refurbished iPad 2 and third-generation iPads from the Apple Store, any of which will run the most current versions of iOS, something which the first-gen iPad will not, and would come with a full warranty (which could be extended to two years with AppleCare).
As to why your iPad failed, it's impossible to say with any certainty. The circuitry could have had a tiny flaw that finally failed, or the iPad could have received a static shock, something quite common in many areas in the winter when the air is dry.  Sorry it happend to you, but anything can fail.
    Regards.

Do you have the iCloud set up?  If you don't you need to buy a third party software that will do it for you when you plug your phone into the new computer.  You can google: iPad/iPhone/iPod to Computer Transfer.  You have to pay for the software but it's really a life saver and you get free updates for life.  It'll save you a lot of pain and suffering in the future.  I've used it many times.

  • I highly doubt there's a solution besides buying a new one, but.......

I have an 80 GB classic. I've had it for about eight months, and before that I had a 60 GB video for 3 years. My iPod is used in my daily routine (going to work, at my desk at work, going home, 5 days a week, so obviously I try to take care of it. I don't care if the back of it gets scratched (so yes, I do not have a carrying/protective case - at work it's either in my iHome or my pocket). On one fateful day about a month and a half ago, I my phone, iPod, bag, keys, and mail in my hands and I was in hurry and the out of all things, the iPod slipped out of my fingers and fell to the ground. None of the casing broke (it actually only got a tiny piece of paint off on one of the corners), but the software was obviously affected. This same thing happened with my old one and I just dealt with it for about a year and a half before it got too slow to handle. Now, now, it is slow to react to finger pressure on the wheel. It seems to have anywhere from a half second to 3 or 4 second delay on the wheel and buttons (^v). Sometimes it's like playing a blindfolded game of tag when trying to pick an artist because it seems the wheel has lost its sensitivity. It's not nearly as bad as my old one was, but it's still noticeable annoyance. Is there any way possible to solve this without having to buy a new one again?
Also, on an unrelated question, how do you eliminate the genre section in iTunes 8? I've heard people say to put: defaults write com.apple.iTunes show-genre-when-browsing -bool FALSE - in the terminal. Can someone fill me in on what the terminal is? Also, is it dangerous to do?
    Thank you

Regarding the iPod, if a reset/restore don't work it out, it sounds like it might just be in need of service/replacement.
Terminal is a utility on the Mac operating system... one might relate it to the command prompt in Windows, for lack of better description ideas. So, in any case, according to your signature it wouldn't really apply to your computer. What exactly do you want to do when you say 'eliminate the genre section' in iTunes? You can turn that column off in iTunes by going to View > View Options and unchecking it. Or, if you're using album view in iTunes, you can just click the Artist or Album box at the top, rather than displaying Genre images.
