Stolen RAM cards

So I loaned my Power Mac G5 out to my old roommate for video-editing since I have a new(er) MacBook Pro I've been using. When I got it back, it was missing two 1gb cards with the slots still open, not to mention the superdrive is now clicking when watching a DVD. Naturally, he's a supposedly harmless pothead who professed ignorance and innocence.
Lesson learned. Anyway, I'm running 10.4.11. Is there a data log of when ram is added and removed? I want to show hard proof.

Try using the System Profiler and take a look at the system logs. I do believe that the amount of RAM found at bootup is logged there.

  • Possible to install old ram cards?

In our home there were 2 iMacs where the memory cards can be removed from the bottom. My computer went in for repair as the screen went white with purple lines. They said for me to get a new computer. This was not an Apple store as there isn't one here.  Hmmm, unsure if the diagnosis was right.. Anyway, can I take out the old 2 ram cards from my old Imac computer and put them into the other one that is the same (there are slots available). Will adding the cards from my past computer as it has stuff on them muck up the computer they go in to?

    sunandstars wrote:
So it won't muck up what is on the existing computer as it is added?
It will, if the RAM specifications are different.
What speed is the RAM from the older iMac and what model is your newer iMac...?
Have a look at > iMac: How to remove or install memory

  • Upgrading RAM cards not showing up in system profiler... is this normal?

Just replaced both 1GB RAM cards in my macbook pro with two 2GB RAM cards, but when I go into "about my mac" it is still saying that I only have 2GB of memory, and when I go into system profiler and click "memory" it is still showing/giving details on two 1GB cards, is this normal or did I not install the new RAM cards properly? I assumed it would update the info to show the additional memory?

    This is not normal
Open up the Mac and reseat the RAM modules. This may help.
If this doesn't resolve the issue, return the modules to the supplier and get the proper modules.
    Best.

  • Stolen credit card use at apple store

on Tuesday 4/2/13  2 credit cards  (visa and amex ) were lifted from my change purse.wallet.I got an email stating congrats on a new MAC. well i don't have a new mac.
someone at the apple store in bethesda allowed a $6600+ dollar amount to be charged on the stolen amex card. anyone in the store verifying identity of the purchaser against the name on the card?
I called the store today got an automated response requested a manager put on hold for > 25 min. no response.
I called back asking the automated responder for customer service. explained my situation. Asked if I had filled out a police report. I said I called the credit card company to cancel the card. the person said this is a manger problem but no managers available stating he was only the receptionist. got my number and name and would get back to me.
the receptionist did not give my a feeling of any urgency or concern on his part. The store allowing a Mac computer to leave the store via a fradulent transaction is a loss for all.

    Then call the police.
Contest the charge with the card issuer.
Visa, MasterCard, Amex, etc. have implemented an incredibly stupid rule over the last few years that prohibits retailers for asking for idendification if the card is signed and they do not have reason to believe the card is stolen.
When you get the replacement cards do NOT sign them. Write " C I D " in the signature space (see ID). When the clerk at whatever store checks to make sure it's signed, they should see that and ask for identification.
No one at Apple can address your problem. You need to take it up with the card issuer.

  • MacBook Pro won't start after changing RAM cards; just beeps.

MacBook Pro will not start after changing RAM cards.  It just beeps; then I force it to quit.

The three things that come to mind immediately are that the RAM card isn't seated properly (you should hear or feel a click when it is seated), the RAM is bad or marginal for that Mac model, or you didn't get the correct RAM type.

    Hello Malith Ratnayake,
After changing the old RAM by the new one, this issue occurs?
If the issue doesn’t occur when you change back to use old ram, I think it is the RAM hardware issue.
Please contact the hardware manufacturer for better support.

  • Can i use 4gb ram card instead of (2x2) 2gb cards in macbook pro 15" 2.0 ghz

can i use 4gb ram card instead of (2x2) 2gb cards in macbook pro 15" 2.0 ghz

    Hi John,
If your MBP is a 2011, yes, and here is one example: http://eshop.macsales.com/item/Other%20World%20Computing/1333DDR3S4GB/
If your MBP is from 2006, the other year Apple made a 2GHz, the answer is no, as the max RAM is 2GB.
Given that it appears you already have 2x2GB installed, I'm "guessing" you have the 2011 model, so the answer is yes.

  • Help - my Ibook has no RAM card in it

    Hi all,
I'm upgrading my husband's OS (he has the Ibook G4 and I want to install Leopard). So I purchased some extra RAM in order to do this and I'm in the process of putting in the new card, and I now I see he has no memory card in his Ibook - is this a problem? Can I just put the new RAM card in?
    Thx

What version of OS X is now installed?  With the added RAM does the computer meet the other Leopard requirements? Do you have a backup of the computer's hard drive? Have you done the following?
Repair the Hard Drive and Permissions
Boot from your OS X Installer disc. After the installer loads select your language and click on the Continue button. When the menu bar appears select Disk Utility from the Utilities menu. After DU loads select your hard drive entry (mfgr.'s ID and drive size) from the the left side list.  In the DU status area you will see an entry for the S.M.A.R.T. status of the hard drive.  If it does not say "Verified" then the hard drive is failing or failed. (SMART status is not reported on external Firewire or USB drives.) If the drive is "Verified" then select your OS X volume from the list on the left (sub-entry below the drive entry,) click on the First Aid tab, then click on the Repair Disk button. If DU reports any errors that have been fixed, then re-run Repair Disk until no errors are reported. If no errors are reported click on the Repair Permissions button. Wait until the operation completes, then quit DU and return to the installer.
If DU reports errors it cannot fix, then you will need Disk Warrior and/or Tech Tool Pro to repair the drive. If you don't have either of them or if neither of them can fix the drive, then you will need to reformat the drive and reinstall OS X.

  • 3 GB RAM card?

Hi, I want to upgrade my Macbook's RAM. I know my computer can handle up to 6 GB of RAM. But I also know that it runs more efficiently with matched RAM. So the most effective thing to do would be to have two 3 GB cards, one for each slot. But so far I haven't been able to find a 3 GB card. I've found 1 GB and 2 GB, but then it always seems to skip to 4 GB. So my question is, is there such a thing as a single RAM card with 3 GB of RAM? If there is, I'd very much appreciate a link to an online store that sells them. If there isn't, then I'd been interested to know why.
I know that the newer Macbooks take a different type of RAM then mine. I believe mine takes 200-pin DDR2 RAM

There are no 3GB modules commercially available. You would need to use a 4GB and 2GB module to get the 6GB. The performance gain you get with the extra memory will far outweigh the benefit of running in dual channel mode... so don't worry about about using different capacity modules.
The difference in running dual channel would be something like running a mile in 4 minutes 26 seconds vs. 4 minutes 23 seconds. While there is "technically" a difference, it would not be something you would ever notice without actually running a benchmark. The benefits of more RAM are far greater.

  • Purchase from a stolen credit card

Hi, a friend of mine told me he can get me 1000 tokens for "free" in Top Eleven
I told him its not possible, he did it, and afterwards i realized he used a stolen credit card for it.
The "friend" is no longer a friend but he stolen another friend's credit card for his stupid acts.
My question is if this is possible to cancel the purchase and get him his money back?
Cause i dont want any connection to this fraud.

This is something the issuer of the credit card needs to handle. The friend whose credit card was stolen needs to talk to his credit card company. Since you did not make the purchase yourself, there is no way you can "refuse" or cancel the gift.
    Regards.

  • Constant Kernal Crashes after 8 gig RAM card added

Hello everyone - I have a mid 2010 27" iMac and just added 16 gig of new ram (first two slots came with 2 gig each and I bought and had installed two more 8 gig - so I can run Final Cut Pro X) Well, after the new RAM was installed by an apple certified dealer - it kernel crashed about 5 times randomly, which it had never done before - It was obvious it was caused by the new RAM - I took it back and they replaced it - and it has now kernal crashed 6 times - Are 8 Gig Ram cards not compatible with 2010 imacs? These guys seem like they know what they are doing - but enough is enough - I know in Apple's literature they mention that only 2 and 4 gig upgrades are possible - but they said the 8 gigs just came out - what do you guys think?

And your iMac bought in 2010 is actually a late 2009 model. Only the mid 2011 models will support 8gig sticks. Take it back.

  • Wont read new Ram card

Hi ive recently purchased a S10-2 running on windows XP. 2 days ago I purchased a 2gb ram card to replace the existing 1gb that came with it when i bought it last week.
Installed it all in properly with the help of a video. (thats the only thing im sure about what ive done).
when i start it up, it suggests I start it back to when the system last worked properly and 2 other options- Ive tried all 3 and cant get past that process, keeps reverting back to that page.
Some forums are suggesting something about checking BIOS,
would very much appreciate some tips as I have no idea what that is or where to check.
meanwhile I will go and look up what Bios means :-)
    p.s
    Ram Ive purchased is a
     Zepto Memory DDR2 667MHz PC5300/2049MB
    kind regards
    Rob

Bios is information that loads before windows to tell what is going on with the system.
To get into bios (I am not aquainted with youir machine) your book might tell you, if not try hitting the delete key as the computer first begins to boot.  If that doesn't work try F2, try F8 and F10 if 2 doesn't work.
When yoiu get to bios look around for a reset to default or restore defaults, then press F10 to save and exit.  That will pick up the memory if it hasn't already.
You should pop the new memory out and stick it back in to be sure it seats correctly.  Twice I've changed memory in netbooks and for some reason it did not seat correctly.
You might also try poping the new memory out and putting the old back in and be sure it works.

  • How to insert a 1 GB RAM card??

    Hi,
I have a 1 GB RAM card and I'd like to insert it into my mac mini, but how?
I'd appreciate if someone could give me instructions on how to.

I didn't watch the video, but have modded my Mac Mini previously. It is easy, but be patient. Also, be wary that I believe opening up your Mini will void the warranty. I take no responsibility for your actions but simply try to answer them.
You'll need a putty knife or spatula. From the bottom, slide the putty knife in and gently pry the clips around the sides and front. It will take some wiggling, but then you will feel it release. Work slowly because there is no need to rush and miss something.
Once you get the clips unseated around the perimeter of the case, pull the top off. With the top off, you will see the Airport antenna at the back right. Push the clips in and pop it off. Make sure that you do not unseat the antenna. If you do, just make sure it is connected to the primary when you reassemble.
Now, you will see a fan header in front of the case attached to the motherboard. Remove that, and make sure you put it back on. At the four corners you will see 4 screws remove them, and remember their respective locations. After that, gently pull the optical drive and housing toward you, and up. This should release the whole assembly and you should have a clear view to the cpu hsf and ram slots. ground yourself when handling ram, and use the clips on either side of the sticks to release the ram and you will be able to pull them out of their slots.
Also, be mindful of the power light up front which is kind of flimsy. After that you should be good to go. Make sure the ram is seated properly. Before you replace the top enclosure you might want to boot your Mini to see if it recognizes the ram.
    Good luck.

  • Any relation between my ram card cover and my screen?

if i touch my ram card cover (while the computer is running) the screen flickers, gets fuzzy and has lines running up and down it. is there a relation between the two?

The prices indicated on both links are the same. However, the answer to your question is that all MacBooks, MacBook Pros, Intel Minis, and Intel iMacs all use the same type and spec RAM. You will find the appropriate information in the computer's User Guide. It's also described in the Apple guide on how to install the RAM.
