Stolen technology

Hi
I have a problem. I know nothing about Java servlets to start with. I am in the process of trying to start a business. I hired someone to work on programming part of the site and this person is making demands on me and has taken the programming work he has done hostage. He realized that this idea I have is worth a lot of money and he wants half. I have patented it.
How can I get the most information on the work he has done from the web site he transferred the Java servlet too. I have found the Jar file need to run the page, it was installed on my hard drive is this of any use to me? If anyone can help me on this I would very grateful. Is there a way to download the work or something like that. I need proof of what work he has done for court.

I believe I do have the jar file. In my windows folder there with is a sub folder named .jpi_cache and inside the folder are two folder, Jar and file which both contain a compressed file and bunch of class files. Plus allot of other stiff like images used by the site. Is this what I am looking for do I De-Compile the class files. Sorry I can't be more informative but like I said I hired him because I know NOTHING about java and now he is being a dinkle head. If you could send me a link to a site that would show how to do this step by step. How to take a Jar file and make it into something useful. I would like to be able to show the courts that He was working on this and I have proof besides the contract he signed. If I De-Compile this stuff what exactly will I have.

There are ways to get what you're asking for...its unclear from your posting..however if you have a copy of the jar file you can extract its content. Here are the steps...
1) Obtain a copy of the JAR file, then Unjar the file
2) De-Compile its source and you should have the "original" source.
Its as simple as that. There are some other nuances if the programmer was clever enough to hide his code, however there are ways around that too.

Any working uncertified Lightning to USB adapters for iPhone?

We used to have all these uncertified lightning to USB adapters that were $1 each (in a pack) from eBay and worked fine, only somtimes giving a warning and working anyway. Slowly, all of them got lost by family members. We have a couple more cables lying around that hardly ever work or only work with certain devices, and one of them is one of those stupid 3rd party ones that are certified and the same price as Apple ones. So I want to know what the status is on these cables before I buy more. Have the newer versions of iOS prevented them from working? Most of us are running iOS 7.0.6 or some version of iOS 6.
Yes, I know there are certified ones, but they're so much more expensive than the basically equivalent uncertified ones (if they work). I only use my original Apple adapter for syncing with my Mac, and the rest are just for charging, music in the car, and Xcode on the go.

Technology wins again: The saga of a stolen iPhone

So just a few short days ago my wife went to CVS and she ended up leaving her iPhone on the counter. Yea I know but mistakes happen we all have done it with something at some point. She gets her stuff and heads back to the car and we leave. As we walk into the house she notices her phone is missing. We do the usual send a text, call it, and cuss a few times to no avail.
It is this time I remember the dandy little iPhone app I have installed on both of our phones called "Find my iPhone" which is an Apple app and service that is free. So upon opening this app I see her phones location on a map in real time. The app tells me its at CVS so we hurry back there and as shes talking to the people I see the phone leave CVS. By time I get her back in the car and on our way to tracking the gizmo, it had stopped at a house and stayed there for some time. I immediately sent a lock code to the device to lock it and was about to go have a "Come to Jesus" meeting with this dirt bag.
At this point my cooler head showed up and I took down the address and called the police. I explain to the dispatcher the situation and she asked me to stop at a location away from the house and an officer would meet me in a few minutes. 10 minutes later an officer showed up. I explained to him the situation and showed him the cool tech i was using and my wife's phones exact location. About then another officer showed up and he didn't seem all to thrilled about the idea of going and getting my wife's property. During this time the first officer was doing his due diligence to collaborate what I was saying with the people at CVS (it was assumed the person behind my wife at the counter took the phone and he was checking the address they used for their prescription to the address I gave him, and yes they matched).
Its at this point another officer showed up who had some say as to what was going to happen. When I showed him the tracking app and explained the situation he said "I have the same app on my devices and its extremely accurate, We will go down there and recover your phone." He told me to follow both him and the first officer there and to park about 4 houses away and then they will come get my phone to take to the door and show the person that it had been tracked to them.
So as me and my wife watched the police go to the door and show the man who answered that the phone was tracked to his residence he got white as a ghost and confessed to taking it along with 3 stories of why he did and all were different. They arrested him on the spot and returned the phone to my wife. We then discovered that the SIM card had been removed and asked the officer if he could get it for us. The dirt bag tried to pull the SIM to keep it from being tracked and like an idiot he told the cop that when he asked for the SIM back.
So the moral of this story, don't underestimate your local law enforcement to do their job (wife went on a baking spree the next day for the 2 cops) and have this app on your phone!!

My wife's iPhone was also taken from a local CVS pharmacy this week. Unfortunately, the tracking accuracy of the Find my iPhone app is not as precise as it could be, and we could not get a narrow enough, nor accurate enough search radius, and the battery died before we found it. I sent the remote lock code, but the phone has been missing now for about 48 hours and I have just about zero hope of ever finding it at this point. It's probably been sold on craigslist by now, and jailbroken or otherwise hacked to get around the lock code.

I bought an HP IMedia 2.6Gig, was stolen in burgalry. Now pc says not genuine os from backup. Ideas?

I built a pc out of bits and pieces, and the thieves left my external drive with backup os and sys image on it. After much tinkering, Microsoft is now saying my os (win 7) is not genuine. How do I get the stolen pc flagged and my bodged up 3Gig dual core I made from bits i'd saved acknowleged as the genuine puter?
Also, can the original IMedia be traced so I can a) send police to recover it or b) send it a virus or summut to deny it to the thieves. I don't think sending a virus or whatever to my own computer would be illegal.
I think I might even have the original reciept lying around somewhere, and still have all the accompanying booklets and things.

I was in hospital earlier this year, and my flat got robbed while I was away. My computer was stolen but I had a backup on a removable harddrive. I built a new computer out of spare parts and re-installed my software. But now im being told that it's not a genuine copy, but it is. Whoever stole my computer is using it illegally. I bought the computer (Hewlett Packard 2.6Gig Quad core Imedia) from PC world in Colchester. I reported the theft to the police, but they didn't catch anybody. It looks like someone is still using my computer though, and I was hoping you might be able to help me transfer the genuine status to this computer and perhaps give me some advice as to how to locate my old one. I'd rather like it back, but if this is not possible i'd like to be able to trace it to an address so I send the police there. I don't think its fair that the thieves are using my genuine copy and my backup is being listed as non-genuine.

I would be very grateful if you could help me. I'm a sufferer of clinical depression and it was so bad I had to go into hospital for 5 months. Loosing my computer was really awful and although the police know who robbed me, they don't have any substantive evidence. If I could get this computer registered as the legitimate one, maybe the old one could be traced to an address using its IP or something. I think I might even have the original reciept somewhere from the PC world store in Stanway, Colchester from when I bought it. Can I get anything done to my stolen computer to make it inoperative if it can't be physically located?

Sorry, but this is a peer-to-peer user support forum. HP maintains no official presence on the forum. There is no way to trace your stolen computer. Please file a claim with your insurance agent or company for the loss. They will require a copy of the police report.
The reason your OS is invalid is because it is tied to the motherboard in your stolen computer. The HP OEM Windows OS requires information in HP motherboard to cause the OS to activate. This is the way the OEM licenses works. The only proper way to correct this issue is to purchase a new copy of Windows.

What happens if your iWatch is stolen?

Hi,
I watched the live event announcing the iWatch and am very concerned about the iWatch becoming another target for new or old criminals. Nobody has mentioned anything about how safe or secure the watch is. Many people have been beaten or even murdered over their iphone. Thanks to current technology, a stolen or lost phone can be made useless and has hopefully reduced thefts of this nature.
But what about the iWatch? Will owners be forced to turn then over to their assailant and will they continue to work for their new illegal owner? I hope Apple has thought about this and has something in the system to prevent the iWatch from becoming an easy target. I think Apple needs to mention their safety and security measure in order to prevent anything from happening. There are a lot of questionable people hanging around subways and lonely streets. A shiny iWatch will get attention no matter if it's silver or gold unless your sleeve is covering it up.

It will be appreciated if you have patience to listen my story and help me to solve my misgiving.
Two days ago(before Chinese New Year), My iphone4S was stolen when I was helping selling in my cousin's store, The chief came into the store and bought coffee and take my iphone away when I was turn back.(I putted my iphone on the table, I know I am too careless).
When I found my iphone lost, I called my number, but it was power off. I know the chief did this. Then I called China mobile to stop my number to avoid more loss. Then I called police and showed the video to them. We all know the figure of the chief. But finally we did not find he.
Then yesterday I found my QQ was loading with iphone, I know the chief opened my iphone. Then I called the China mobile again to recover my number. Then I called my number by another phone, But the chief hang up my calling again and again. I was so angry and upset. Finally I just stop my card again.
I found this chief is very arrogant. Others will throw the SIM card and refresh the phone. But he did not do this.
Furthermore, I have screen password, How he open it? Somebody told me if he open the lock by technology, All record will be wipe away. But why he still load my QQ? If he did not open my lock, How he can get the wifi or GPRS?
Now the biggest misgiving is that I have so many privacy information in my iphone, include my email, Skype, QQ, message, photos....
I wanna know if I can ask Apple company to wipe away the information by providing them the serial number, IMEI and invoice. I bought it from HK.

To find an iOS device, Find my iPhone has to be enabled (turned On under Settings > iCloud) on the device prior to loss. If you didn't do this, there is no way to find it. Neither Apple nor your carrier will find it for you.

My name is Ms. Nannapas Pothiyannon , from Thailand. I'm 30 years old and my own business is texture distributor at talingchan district, Bangkok. I write this letter to request your kind assistant to recommend me from my lost of iPad. Since it was stolen from my home office by a thief since 4 July 2012 I also have the evident from the Royal Thai Police that reported official of my lost iPad for this case either.
The reason that I decided to write an email to you is I am unsure in case of if iPad get lost, would it be possible to find it by using my lost iPad's information such as IMEI no. (*************) , or Serial No.(DL*******VGL) to search for it? As your office is the headquarter where should have all technology materials ready to support the customer from several claims. Besides, right now, I still have to pay for my lost iPad by credit card from Siam Commercial Bank and it still need to continue monthly payment for next 6 months to complete which means, I have to paid with no chance to use the Apple Product since the day I brought it on 16 May 2012 from Istudio Powerbuy at Centralpinklow until now.
Therefore, it would be your kindness, if you could recommend me for the other alternative to search for my lost iPad to be the another way to assist the Thai Polish to find it, as it seems hopeless for waiting and seems no any bright way to find it.
Lastly, I would confirm with all my whole honest that all the above message in every single word are true for 100 per cent as I am a direct victim from this pilfer accident.

How to track stolen laptops?

I lost my Lenovo G580 Laptop last week.
It doesn't have any tracking programs installed.
But i have the serial number and MAC id of my Laptop.
Is there a way that i can be able to track my laptop...

Welcome to the Lenovo Community and sorry to hear about your trouble.
AFAIK, the only method to track a laptop is via the Anti Theft Technology. It's a lojack for laptops that's embedded on the motherboard's BIOS (chip) and is usually bundled with tracking software (subscription) like the Absolute's Computrace. When this chip is activated with the help of Absolute CompuTrace then they should be able to track or remotely lock the unit. Otherwise, there's no technology yet to track the laptop via the serial number without the abovementioned methods.
I recommend you report the stolen laptop to the local authorities so that you can claim the unit back once it's recovered. You can also contact lenovo and flag the laptop (via serial number) as "stolen" so anyone who calls for support on the unit will also be flagged.

How to track stolen laptops with Serial Number?

Welcome to the Lenovo Forums.
Currently, the only method AFAIK to track a laptop is via the Anti Theft Technology. It's a lojack for laptops that's embedded on the motherboard. Stolen Phone Issues

I am a new customer with Verizon and have encountered a sticky situation. Started my service August 11th and take ownership for going over with my data but on August 18th went to the emergency room and was admitted to the hospital August 19th. During this time my phones were stolen from my home by someone we knew while the phones were in there possession they ran the data up even more. My family tried to resolve the issue by reporting the phones stolen but for whatever reason weren't successful in getting the phones disconnected. But my mother did get the police involved and reported all items stolen by this particular individual. I was not informed till the night of August 31st on what happen and made a phone call to Verizon first thing Sept 1st. The police were able to retrieve some of my items including the phones in questions. When I called Verizon I was connected to a Tech Service Representative who listen to my explanation and informed me he would write a note including dates phones were stolen, police report number, Officers name, and local law enforcement number. Of course that was not a problem. But the problem in question involved the the enormous amount of data used according to the representative. Chris the representative informed me he would pass all this information to his supervisor to issue all necessary credits but while this problem is being resolved he was going to update my plan to a 100GB plan to protect me from overage while his supervisor makes the necessary adjustment. He assured me do not worry I would not have to pay for the particular price plan, that once the adjustments were made to my account I would be credit back and I will not be responsible for the cost of the plan, My thing I feel like I am being robbed again because the thief stole my phone increased my data even more and I got stuck paying for the there treacherous act. I did receive a credit of $375.00 bringing the remaining balance of $865.80, but to be honest I feel I am still being held accountable partial for the thief activity on my phone line. I am out of the hospital recovering from major surgery and do not have sick pay from my job to fall back on. I am stretching my savings to cover bills while in recovery. I really want to stick with verizon the reception in my area is awesome and would love to keep my service going but I do not know what else to do how can I get my balance down to a fair amount? Please help me with this matter Thank You

I am currently involved in a similar situation. I am writing this on behalf of my mother who is not technology savvy and still uses a flip phone. Our problem started in January 2013. An iPhone had been lost on her account which it was suspended online through myverizon.com. She realized that the phone was once again active when they started getting outrageous over charges on data in August 2013. Immediately went back on myverizon.com and re-suspended the line and called customer service later that day to explain that the phone was not in her possession, had not been using it and wanted the line cancelled effective immediately. They explained to her that a phone would re-activate after 3 months automatically. Since she felt that the error was on her part for not knowing Verizon's operational practices, she paid all the overage charges and forgot about it. Fast forward 1 YEAR AND 1 MONTH! She notices a large jump in her bill ($247), she asks me to log into her account to see if I can figure out where the extra charges have come from. I look at her bill and figured out that the extra charge for $247 was in fact a legitimate charge as my sister ordered a new Galaxy S5 and charged it to the account, had told my dad, but forgot to tell my mom. BUT, I also discovered that the iPhone that was cancelled 13 MONTHS earlier was STILL BEING BILLED TO HER ACCOUNT FOR $54.80 A MONTH!!!! I immediately have her call customer service and have her hand the phone to me. I tell the customer service rep that I have a few questions about her bill. I explained to her that she never really checks her bill that closely, because she has 4 lines and since they live in the country, Verizon Wireless is their only form of internet service so she doesn't get too alarmed by a variation in her bill if it doesn't exceed $400/month because that is just about average for her services and they occasionally go over their data usage. I explain to the customer service rep that she has been getting charged $54.80 ($40.00 line access $9.99 insurance $2.00 Verizon surcharges $2.81 tax) a month for a phone line that she doesn't use, doesn't even have possession of the phone and that she CANCELLED the line over a year ago. She tells me she sympathizes with me, that she also has a hard time understanding Verizon's bill set up and asks me to hold for a few minutes while she investigates the account. She comes back and tells me that she's very sorry for the inconvenience, but that there is nothing that she can do for me. I then request to be connected with a supervisor to discuss the issue with. The customer service rep tells me she will transfer me, but that a supervisor will not be able to do anything about this either. I wait patiently thinking there is NO WAY that a supervisor can not do ANYTHING to satisfy a customer who spends on average $350 a month for the last 20 YEARS. The supervisor comes on line and once again I explain the situation to her. She also tell me that she sympathizes with my problem, but that in fact there really is nothing that they can do for my mother who has paid $712 over the last 13 months for a phone line that should have been cancelled. I tell her that that is completely unacceptable. She then proceeds to tell me that she "finds it very hard to believe that my mother would not notice an extra charge for 54.80 a month". YOUR CUSTOMER SERVICE REPRESENTATIVE SUPERVISOR IS CALLING MY MOM A LIAR and she's not even trying to be professional about it. I at this point become very angry as you can imagine and tell the supervisor that I am done speaking with her, that I want to talk to her supervisor. I was once again placed on hold and transferred to another "supervisor" who tells me there is absolutely nothing that can be done about my mom essentially giving Verizon an extra $712 over the last 13 months for a line that was SUSPENDED (not even active) that should have been cancelled a year prior. I asked the 2nd supervisor "I have been on the phone with you guys for over an hour now, can you tell me, has the phone yet been cancelled?" He assured me that it has been cancelled and will not be billed any further. I finally terminate the phone call because I obviously am not going to get any satisfaction whatsoever. Now today, I take my dads phone into the Verizon's authorized dealers' store to have his iPhone re-activated after being sent in to Apple for a battery replacement. I ask the store clerk to please verify that this line has been actually cancelled because I now trust absolutely NOTHING a verizon rep tells me... and guess what?!? The phone is STILL ONLY SUSPENDED AND NOT CANCELLED!!!!!!!!!! NOT CANCELLED!!!!!! STILL BEING BILLED!!!!!!! AFTER ALL THIS!!!!!! I CAN NOT BELIEVE THIS. The shear lack of responsibility that Verizon has taken for this enormous error ON THEIR PART has got me completely mind blown. The fact that she paid $712 over the last year for something that should have been cancelled alone is amazing, but then after spending over an hour on the phone 5 days ago complaining about this and then I find out today that it still hasn't been cancelled after I dispute this with 2 of your "supervisors" has left me completely speechless. I do not expect to hear anything from verizon on what they could do to make things right for a 20+ year customer, but I just so happen to be on lay-off starting tomorrow, so I have decided to dedicate 2 hours every night posting this story to EVERY public forum and social media site I can find and I know how to use the copy and paste feature! I am then going to research who I need to contact, be it The Better Business Bureau, FCC and whoever else I can send this complaint to, because not only is this unacceptable, I would think that there would be some legality issue here as well...

What do I do if my Logic Studio Serial number was stolen, box and all?

So, my box for Logic Studio that I've had since 2010 was stolen, as well as my old computer...and external hardrive where the serial number was backed up. Can apple verify it is me via email, social security, anything, or am I just kind of screwed, and can't use the software I paid for?
Just wondering for a solution, because it has everyhting to do with my lively hood and feeding myself.
I know that these requests are probably a bane of Apple's, but I am willing to verify my information by whatever means necessary, as I would like to just use the software I have paid for. Is there really no protocol for "everything I owned pertaining to technology got stolen"? Life happens, and so did mine, it was out of my control and I find it fairly unjust that I cannot use anything I used to be able to, now that I finally have a computer again after 2 years.

I need help choosing a new MBP (previous one was stolen)

Hello everyone, I need help choosing my next macbook pro because my previous one (15" Core i7 high res anitglare screen) was stolen . As you probably tell I spent a lot of money on my previous one and now I am a broke college student that doesn't have $2,400 to drop on a replacement.
So this is where you come in... because of budget reasons I have been looking at the 13 inch macbook pro but I just cannot bring myself to spend $1200 on a laptop with old technology (Core 2 duo processor) not to mention it is only 2.4ghz. I am not really sure what to ask about it I think i just need some good stats or other convincing information to allow me to buy it.
I know about the student discount and the refurb. macs, are there any other reliable ways to get a less expensive MBP?
I am a converted PC user and I LOVE macs, please don't let my budget make me revert back to a PC...

I know it’s a bit late now but let me point you in the direction of Prey Project.
Prey Project is an open source program I use on my MacBook Pro, it’s a program that can track your computer and phones if stolen using GPS / Google Maps etc to give you location of it.
It will also take pictures of who is in front of it, log what they are doing etc.
