Stop Airport Extreme blinking orange -Restore to Green

I stupidly upgraded my Airport Extreme base station firmware from 7.4.2 to 7.5.2 and computer crashed, etc. Thanks to this great discussion group I downgraded back to 7.4.2 without further problems. Everything works perfectly.
Now A.E. base station orange light comes back on and wants to upgrade firmware back to 7.5.2.
My QUESTION: How do I refuse any future A.E. firmware updates AND restore the blinking orange light back to green? I'm happy with firmware version 7.4.2. Thanks for any help with this matter and Happy New Year.
p.s. Dear Apple, please leave me alone and stop screwing up my simple system with this buggy update. I'll buy a new Imac with OS 10.6..... when I'm ready to!

My QUESTION: How do I refuse any future A.E. firmware updates AND restore the blinking orange light back to green? I'm happy with firmware version 7.4.2.
o Open AirPort Utility - Click Manual Setup
o Click the Base Station tab below the Printers and Disks icons
o Click the Options button
o Remove the check mark next to Check for Firmware Updates
o Click Done, then click Update

  • Connecting HDD to Airport Extreme causes orange death light...

I am in a small office network with mix of pc and mac (7 pc's, 1 iMac, 1 wireless iMac, and 3 wireless macbook pro's). Internet connection comes into building directly to airport. Airport then feeds a couple of systems directly and a Dlink 24port ethernet switch which connects all other hardwired network connections.
I just purchased a Seagate Freeagent Desk 1.5TB external USB2 drive to be used as a network storage drive (not with time machine just grabbing and dumping files for interoffice sharing). Removed preloaded software and formatted fat32. Disk will be mounted and recognized when connected to any mac directly. When connected to the usb port on the airport extreme it begins to initialize and then bombs. Airport gives the orange death light and there is no connectivity to the router for all (ie internet connection, etc.) When you unglug the HDD the router reboots and then goes back to green light of peacefulness. What am I missing? Setting? Order of connection? Not hitting it hard enough on the ground with a large 10lb sledge hammer? Help me out...

you may need to restart the AEBSn with the drive plugged in.
since it might have been long since the AEBSn was restarted and anything else attached to it.
or a restore to factory settings...
i know not the best you want to hear, it should just work.
make sure all the AEBSn updates are there...etcetc
i was having this problem the past month or so and it started working again flawlessly after a few restarts.

  • Airport Extreme Flashing - Orange

I need some help with my Airport Extreme, which has been working faultlessly for 2,5 years, but then I tried to change some of the settings after which my MacBook air did no longer connect to it.
I have been trying a Hard reset, a Factory Reset, changed network cables, etc. non if it seems to work.
After a reset the Green light burns, then switches to organge and after some 30 seconds it starts flashing in orange. My Airport Utility program does not "see" the Airport Extreme, neither on my Macbook, nor on my iPad.
What else can I do to get it to work properly again?

Please try a Factory Default Reset again as follows:
Power off the AirPort Extreme for minute or two
Hold in the reset button first, and keep holding it in for an additional 10 seconds while you simultaneously plug the power back into the AirPort Extreme
Release the reset button after the hold period, and allow a full minute for the AirPort Extreme to restart to a slow, blinking amber light status.
I assume that you are using the AirPort Extreme with a modem or modem/router. Connect the Ethernet cable from the modem to the WAN "O" port on the back of the AirPort Extreme
    On the iPad home screen.....
    Tap Settings
    Tap WiFi
Look for a setting of Set UP New AirPort Base Station
Tap on AirPort Extreme. (The example below shows an AirPort Express...you will see AirPort Extreme)
That will bring up the setup utility. Follow the prompts
If you prefer to use your Mac.....
Click on the AirPort icon at the top of the Mac's screen
Look for a setting of New AirPort Base Station
    Click on AirPort Extreme
The setup utility will open up. Follow the prompts.
    Please report on your results.

  • Airport Extreme Blinking Amber But Internet Working Fine Multiple Status Messages

I have Airport Extreme 5.6.1.   It started blinking amber showing Airport did not have a valid Internet Address.   I was concerned about with changing anything if I could still connet.   Checked a forum and it suggested to go to sheck status and see the problem.   I did and now I have a new mesage.  No DNS server address.   I am hesitant about doing anything because if I do and lose internet connection I am really up a creek without a paddle.

Just to update.   I unplugged my modem for a short time.   When it powered up the light was green on my Airport Extreme.

  • Airport extreme blinking amber light error when connecting to new modem

I have just bought and installed a new modem gateway.  It is an Arris TG852G DOC 3.0 model with a built in WiFi router.
After connecting it and activating it through Comcast, I reset, then reconnected my airport extreme MD0331LL/A Model No. A1408 to the new Arris
modem, I am getting blinking amber lights on the base station.  I have internet connectivity, but I am still getting an amber light.  My wireless devices (ipad and iphones) all see the old network name and id and seem to work just fine.
When I scanned for my airport base station in my airport utility (version 5.6.1)  to try to resolve the error message I get
a message stating that the Airport Utility is not detecting any airport devices.
I cannot reset the default settings as these buttons do not work within the Airport Utility.
I suspect interference between the built in router in the Arris and I understand I need to operate it in bridge mode.  Can you please help me fix this.
The COMCAST people are extremely unhelpful, and stated that this is not their problem but a problem with my router
as they have provifded me  internet connectivity through the modem and the issue is my problem.

Try connecting an Ethernet cable from your computer directly to one of the LAN <-> ports on the AirPort Extreme to see if AirPort Utility can detect the AirPort Extreme that way.
If yes, click on the AirPort Extreme and then click directly on the word Status (2nd line on the summary page)
A window will open to explain why the amber light is blinking
If the message indicates that you need to configure the AirPort in Bridge Mode......
Click the Internet icon at the top of the window
Click the Internet Connection tab just below
Change the setting for Connection Sharing to Off (Bridge Mode)
Click Update at the lower right of the window to save the new setting and restart the AirPort Extreme
You can disconnect the Ethernet cable that you were using to configure the AirPort Extreme now
It would be a good idea to power off both the Arris gateway and the AirPort Extreme now
    Wait a minute
Start the Arris first, and let it run a full minute
Start the AirPort Extreme next the same way
    You should be all set

  • Airport Extreme and Orange LiveBox (France). No access from Internet

    Hi
I have bought an Airport Extreme and configure it to use BonJour and Mobileme to be able to access my connected (USB) hard disk when I am not at my home office. When I connect from other network I can see the device, but I can not access it. Actually even when I am at home I can only connect to the disk when I directly connect to the Airport Express, but not connecting via the LiveBox router. I have set up a DMZ zone directly to my Airport Express ID, but this does not seem to work either.
Anybody knows how to solve this?
Or what are the parameters for Orange in France so I can configure the Airport Extreme and get rid off the LiveBox?
    Any suggestion?
    Thanks!

    Welcome to the discussions!
I would highly recommend that you use an experienced IT professional for your proposed network. He or she will need to make an on-site inspection and take a number of measurements to determine the best way to design the network.
In terms of network design, the "best" and far superior design will have a main router distributing ethernet feeds to a number of other wireless access points.
Just from your preliminary information, it's very doubtful that trying to "extend" using wireless only will provide the reliable service that you need.
Please consult with an IT pro (and try to avoid using someone's friend who "knows computers") before you take any further steps. The money will be well spent.

  • Airport extreme blinking yellow.  reporting "Unknown problem (6rer)

My airport extreme router has been blinking yellow for a week.  All devices using it are still able to conect to the internet, but all report errors with airport. When i go thru diagnostic steps by way of those messages, i get "Unknown problem (6rer)"  I have powered down the unit and also the cable modem to which it is attached, with no luck.

  • Airport Extreme blinking yellow , auto reset ?

I have two Airport Extremes connected via ethernet.  One is connected to the Internet and the other is to extent the WIFI in the house for better signal coverage.
Every so often the Airport Exterme that is used to extend the WIFI signal, starts to flash yellow and when I reboot it is fine again.  Is there way to "auto reboot" the Airport Extreme.
    thanks in advance

  • Airport Express Blinking Orange!???

Alright. Im back, but this time with a minor problem. See, I purchased an iPod Touch 2nd Gen 8GB model on July and it is working real good so far. The only problem is the signal strength of my wifi keeps changing(possibly of the antenna) so I decided to make the signal stronger by creating another wireless network. So, I bought a used Airport Express Base Station, and as soon as I plugged it in, it keeps blinking orange. At first I thought it was charging but after 2 days it started to seem ridiculous. So, I went to the internet for help.
I looked at some forums and they say that I should perform a Reset, but I wasn't absolutely sure if that is the way to go. I then came to apple support for a better answer. Hope you guys know what to do.
    -Thanks in advance!^^

If you take your Express to the Apple store to have it checked out, the first thing they will do is connect an ethernet cable from a computer to your Express and open AirPort Utility.
    Did you try this?
Might be a good idea to pull the power on the Express first, then plug in the ethernet cable and power back up.
If the device does not appear at first, wait a few minutes and it will often just "appear".
If still no luck, you may have a defective device. Call Apple to go over your options.

  • Airport Express blinks orange but works?

    Hey all,
Lately my Airport Express has had periods where it's working, but blinking orange. The only times I've had it blink before was when my cable modem had gone wonky or my settings were messed up. I've checked to make sure that my iMac's Airport wireless hasn't 'drifted' to an unlocked network - it really IS my network that's running.
What does the orange blinking mean if my network is still running? I have my iMac, a PS3, and a Wii all connected to it, but neither the PS3 nor Wii are usually on.
    Thanks

When you opened AirPort Utility and clicked on Manual Setup, did you click on the amber dot to see what the message said?
If you previously told AirPort Utility that you did not want to be notified when new updates were available, you can reverse this by opening AirPort Utility, clicking on Manual Setup, clicking the Base Station tab (just below the row of icons), clicking Options and changing your preference.
Also check Preferences under the AirPort Utility menu to make any changes as needed. Look at the top of the screen next to the Apple icon for the AirPort Utility menu.

  • Airport express blinks orange

I have an Airport Extreme Base Station, which works fine, in one end of the house but can't get this old one to do anything but blink. I have Cablevision as my ISP.
    Thanks
    Chris

A persistent, flashing amber light indicates that any of the several potential conditions may require your attention:
The base station has not yet been configured because it is new, or the reset switch has been set.
You have selected a security configuration that is not recommended.
One of several other conditions, such as a disconnected Ethernet cable or invalid IP address has been detected.
    (ref: http://docs.info.apple.com/article.html?artnum=305101)
If you run the AirPort Utility, it will show an amber circle on the summary page next to the area(s) causing the problem. Click on this amber circle and it should provide an explanation.
    Please post back your results.

  • Airport Extreme Flashing Orange Light - No Base Stn ID

Here is a huge problem I hope someone can help solve.
AE working fine for over a year. Hooked up new HD to it, got a requester asking for answers on this device. Clicked something (now I cannot for the life of me remember what).
Now no matter what I do the AE only goes to a flashing orange light, after power off/on, after power on reset, after power off reset, no Base Station ID found on any scan, have powered off/on the DSL modem.
No matter what is tried it always comes back to a flashing orange light and no way of accessing the base station to start over again.
Temporarily on a hard cable to make contact here. No hints in the manual, nothing more I can find on line for troubleshooting this.
How can I access and reset the base station so it is recognized??
This seems rather severe for one requester selection and now nothing!
    Thanks in advance
    Geoff

Finally some joy on this issue!!
Here is my workaround (or solution).
On the Western Digital HD there was a .pdf buried on it with the real hint. That is the HD comes preformatted in FAT32.
So first I connected it directly to the Mac rather than the Airport Base Station. This allows it to be seen on the desktop AND read by Disk Utility. It also allowed it to be read by Time Machine. However I chose to reformat it in Mac OS Extended (Journaled).
Then the Time Machine initial backup was done through the Mac. When completed I plugged the HD back into the Base Station, went to Finder/Go/Connect To Server using the smb://10.0.1.1 address. Voila, The icon is back on the desktop and readable by Time Machine
I suspect this all could have been done without backing up through the Mac first. Just happened that is the way I did it.
The Key seems to be to reformat the HD to other than FAT32 for the Airport end of things. Seems to me that was the problem I had when I was backing up both PC and Mac to one HD. FAT32 as I recall will not work that way.
So a solution that works. May require the HD on Base Station to be mounted each time you power up. Minor inconvenience once you are going though.
    Cheers
    Geoff

  • Airport Extreme goes away periodically, unable to connect

I have a current 20" Intel IMac and an older PBG4. I've had various Airport base stations since they came out. I recently upgraded to the new Extreme n model, and it works fine sometimes, then goes away sometimes for hours before the iMac or PBG4 can see it. I thoguht it was a problem on the iMac because it would show NO networks when this happened (there are about 5 others in my area). But, even the laptop couldn't connect. I often see the base station in a blinking orange mode, then green, then orange, then green, yet the DSL connection is fine.
It's been doing this off and on since I bought it but became so problematic the past two nights I couldn't get online at all for hours. I finally reset my Airport to defaults and just enabled the minimal stuff (WPA and a few port forwards) but I've found it offline already once today.
Is anyone else seeing this issue? I have my old Airport as an extended piece of the network now, but I've even disabled that and just had the new base as the only base and had the same problem.
    Thoughts?

Okay, maybe we can compare notes and find something similar. First, my background:
I had an existing Airport Express that was set up with port forwarding, MAC address security (only allowing certain machines to use it), WEP, etc. (I had to use WEB because the adapter my TiVo had would not do WPA.)
I upgraded the TiVo adapter and got this new Extreme about the same time. I imported my old settings to the new Extreme, then made some adjustments. I thought that was the issue -- I read about some kind of hardware MAC address caching at the ISP level that makes them stop talking to us, but this certainly wasn't that.
What happens: I look at my computers and see no airport signal. When I click the ))) signal icon in the menu bar, it sometimes spins the beach ball for awhile before opening. It usually shows NO NETWORKS at all, or may show one of the neighbors. But, when this happens, I can't connect to anything. It will often say "These was a problem trying to connect..." or whatever.
Resetting my Extreme does nothing. During this, sometimes I get blinking orange, sometimes it's green. But the issue is always weird because my iMac can't see ANYTHING to connect to.
Also, I made my old Airport a WDS extender. That I thought was an issue, so I disabled that and powered it down. Same problem.
So, last night I reset my Exteme to defaults, and just plugged in the things I needed to change for security. It happened again.
So maybe it's a problem with WPA (never used it with the old one). Maybe there's an issue being in n/g/b mode and if I set my Exteme to just b/g it will be better. No clue.
    Have you tried anything?

  • Airport extreme wants my apple id? Where do I enter it?

My airport extreme blinks yellow all the time. I looked at it via airport utility on iPad and the message is that my apple id was entered incorrectly and told me to enter it again but gave no provision for doing so. Where do I do that. My apple id works fine on all my OSX and iOS devices.
I want my green light back!

This is an older post- but I had the same issue and just resolved it. Quick recap, after a recent update, my airport extreme (and airport express) both had errors. When I checked the error (paraphrase) said that it had an unregonized Apple ID password. (NOTE: this is NOT the device password). I had not updated my password, but I had setup Back to My Mac a few weeks prior.
The issue here is related to Back To My Mac. Unfortunately, I was not able to update the password on the iOS Airport utility (where I had previously viewed this error and tried to resolve it). I also tried several suggestions i found online, but none helped.
I finally fixed it by loading the Airport Utility on my Mac (I found it by using Spotlight search (magnifying glass icon in the upper right hand corner of your Mac's screen).
This will display your network devices and when you click on your Airport Express or Extreme, it will display the error and an 'Edit' icon (something the iOS app does NOT do). Clicking 'edit' will pull up your Apple ID username and a field for password. I entered my password, clicked "update" (which will restart the Airport device) and the error was gone!
It seems some update wiped out the Apple ID pasword and it just had to be re-entered to continue Apple ID access for Back to my Mac.
    Hope this helps!
