Stop archiving repository in MDM Console

Hello ,
I wanted to take back up of a repository which had 6000+ records.
I archived the repository in "unloaded" mode some 3 days back and still the status is showing as archiving.
Since the repository was unloaded, I cant use MDM Data Manager.
Does anyone have any idea why is it taking so long to archive the repository?
Also, is there any way as to how can we stop the process of archiving a repository?
Will stopping the MDM server help?
Any help in this regard will b appreciated.
Thanks in advance.
Roshani.

Hi,
As 'An' said i too dont think it should take so much time.. for 6000 records either in minutes or max a couple of hours... any ways as you said its still under process might be it got stuck somewhere its better instead of restarting your server, you stop your console, by selecting AltCltDel and then restart you console.  and then try to archieve a small repositorya and then you try with the 6000 thousand one....
Cheers,
Cherry.

  • SAP MDM Console not allowing to add new fields or load repository

    Hi all,
We are in SAP MDM 7.1 SP06. I do have access to create table, fields, ports etc., And I also have access to load and unload repository.
But when I login to SAP MDM Console and repository, options to load repository --> immediate and update indices are disabled. This is happening for Add/ Delete Table/Fields/Port etc.,
However, if I login to repository using MDM console in another laptop or system using the same userid, I am able to perform all the operations mentioned above.
Can you please help me with any suggestions to fix this. I do not want to reimage my laptop now inorder to fix this.
I tried to uninstall and install mdm console again but in vain.
    Thanks,
    Rajesh

    Hi Rajesh,
In the Main Menu you have a lock sign, click on that and unlock the view.
    This should solve the problem.

    Hey Akhil,
In the MDM console right click on the SAP MDM SERVER and Mount the MDM Server by specifying either the IP address or the host name of the MDM Server.
After u mount the MDM server if it is in stopped mode then start it.
If u want to mount any repository right click on thatMDM server and say either create repository or unarchive  repository.
If u want to unarchive any repository u must keep the A2A files which are provided along with SAP Business content on the MDM server SAP MDM -->> Server -->> Archives.
Then only u will be able to unarchive the repository and get the structure provided by SAP like for eg. Vendor,Employee,Article,Material etc...
    Hope dis helps u

  • Change the field details in MDM Console

    Hi All
I have unloaded repository and try to change the fields details ,like changing the display fields option as yes or no. in MDM Console .
But it is not allowing me to do so and giving error message as "field name already exists"
But when I go and change the user defined field  it allows me to do so.
Same is the case with Table details
Can you guide me on this.
    Thanks
    Suds

    Hi Suds,
If you are using the same and the latest MDM patch for both your original and the Test repository, it should behave in same way.
But you mentioned that for test repository, you are not facing any problem.
Try out these steps to debug your original repository:
    1. Check your original repository for any errors and also if found any, then repair it.
    2. Also try to archive your original repository and then unarchive it with a different name. ( And check whether it is still behaving the same).
    3. You can also try creating a duplicate repository and test it.
    4. Unload and Re-load (with updated Indices) your original rep and test it.
I hope any of the above steps helps.

  • Error in starting MDM Server from MDM Console

    Hi,
I have installed SAP MDM 5.5 SP05 on Windows 2003 Server.
When i try to start the MDM Server (i.e. MDM Service) from the MDM console it gives me the following error:
<i>Error Starting apmdmd(MDM Server): The machine 'apmdmd' is not Windows-based. The MDM server cannot be started from this application; please use CLIX on the machine instead. </i>
But if i start the MDM Service manually and then mount the server, it works fine.
    Kindly help.
    Regards,
    Chintan Sheth

It sounds to me like a problem potentially with either the permissions of the Windows user or perhaps a software firewall. The Console uses a low-level Windows API function to determine if the target machine on which MDS is installed is Windows-based. This function may be blocked by some OS or firewall-level setting. This may be the case even if you are able to use the same client machine to connect to the target machine via the Service Control Manager and start MDS from there.
I would like to help with this problem, but I need to know a few more things:
When the problem occurs, is the Console running on the same Windows machine as MDS?
You mentioned Windows 2003 Server... when you run the Console on this machine, are you logged in as an Administrator of the machine? And do you still get the error when you attempt to start MDS from within the Console?
Once MDS is started, and you mount it within the Console, are you having any other problems, such as logging in to a repository, or viewing logs?
Is there a firewall installed on the machine or machines that the software is installed on? We may have to review the settings of the firewall, or try temporarily disabling it (on both ends, or at least on the machine running MDS), to see if the problem goes away -- then we'll know the problem is with the firewall settings.
CLIX is a fine workaround if you can use it, but clearly this problem needs to be rectified.

  • Error while create or mount a repository in MDM

    Hi,
after installing SAP MDM 5.5 SP06 and SAP MaxDB 7.6.00.35 on the same hardware (Laptop with Windows NT Client) I started MDM Console, mounted the MDM Server and then started the MDM Server (green arrow).
When I try to add a repository (unarchiving an existing or creating a new one) I enter the data (DBMS eerver, User-ID and password) and then I always get the same error message:
"Error Getting DBMS Settings" --> "Error initializing database engine".
Any ideas where the problem is?

  • MDM console GUI on Windows is not mounting the MDM server on Solaris

    Hello MDM experts,
This is kind of administrative problem. I am basis person, installing SAP MDM 5.5 SP04 for the first time.
I have configured the MDM server (mds) on solaris 10 system. I have also configured MDM import server(mdis) and Syndication serever (mdss) on the same machine. I have installed the database software and configured the empty repository on the same host machine.
So, Database and all the 3 MDM services (mds, mdis, mdss) are running on Solaris machine.
After that, I installed "MDM console fat client GUI" component on my desktop and trying to "mount the server" by specifying the "hostname" of the solaris machine where MDM services are running.
But I am not able to mount it...it says invalid server and does not mount.
Any idea what might be the problem ????
    I referred following link :
    http://help.sap.com/saphelp_mdmgds55/helpdata/EN/8e/9f9c427055c66ae10000000a155106/frameset.htm
which says, you should have administrative right on Solaris machine where MDM server is running....but how do I have that being a Windows user ???
    Please advise.

    Hello Mark,
    1. When I right click on the "SAP MDM servers" node in "Console Hierarchy" pane on the left hand side of the Console GUI, and select "Mount MDM Server..." option in context menu, I get a dialog box for entering my MDM server name.
I typed in the fully qualified host name of my solaris server where "mds-r" is running.
When I click "OK" button, it adds an entry in "Console Hierarchy" on left hand side, but the entry comes with "Yellow exclamation Mark" sign. Also it says Status "Invalid" when I see the "MDM servers" section on right hand side top.
When I right click on my newly created entry of MDM server, all the options on context menu like "Mount Repository, Create Repository, Connect to MDM server" look greyed out. Only the option of "Unmount MDM server" seems to be enabled
    2. I tried to do the same thing on 2 different Windows machines and got the same output.
    Regards,

  • Error in MDM Console - 5.5.32.65

I get the following error messager EVERYTIME I duplicate a repository.  The duplication seems to work, but once I get this message the MDM Console fails.  Anyone have an idea about why?
'The instruction at"0x0060e921" referenced memory at "0x000bfff4". The memory could not be "read".'
    Mike Jakeway

    Hi Mike Jakeway,
as I can see from product release perspective:
The version of your console, as mentioned in the title of the message, is 5.5.32.65. This version was shipped with SAP MDM 5.5 SP04 (no patch). Assuming the MDM Server has the same version 5.5.32.65, I would suggest:
    1. upgrade your MDM Server and Console to MDM 5.5 SP04 patch1 which is 5.5.33.13.
    2. if the error still happens, then I would suggest to create an internal CSN bug report, or OSS message.
Note: If you have an SP04 customer, as I am aware it is okay to ask for an upgrade to patch1 since SP04 is still in monitored shipment.
Other: if you have access to OSS, then it would still make sense to seach the messages using e.g. the keyword "referenced memory at" in component MDM* .
    Thank you.
    Regards.
    Laszlo.

  • Creation of users in MDM console

    Hi MDMers,
I have a simple question here.
We create a user in MDM console at the Admin part of the repository which is a known fact to every one.
I have a list of 500 users (approximately) to be created in the MDM console.
By any chance is there any way that I can do mass create of the users or upload the users from a excel sheet.
Or doing one by one manually is the only option for it?
    Please give your inputs.
    Thanks and Regards,
    Sravan

    Hi Sravan,
You are advised to use data sources like LDAP etc.
But if any case integration with LDAP not in the scope for different reason it's possible to create mass users in MDM.
Please refer to below URL to find the quick method to implement your requirement

    I hope this helps you.

  • MDM Console - Roles

    Hi all
Inside the Data Manager i create 2 rows in the Named Serches table, then i did a query (in the free form search --> i look for a value in qualified) and I finally I assign to one of them.
I prude the resulset: Search --> Restore Named Search --> My_NamedSearch and got the filter. Now i want to assign this named search for a role, but in the console i don't have an option to choose this (the label constraint doesn't show me [ALL])
    Im using MDM 5.5 SP05 (5.5.42.84)
    Any suggestion.
    R

    hi,
upto MDM 5.5  SP05 versions, constriants are available for look up tables, Categories and mask table only.
    in SP6 version you can assign Named searches to a role;
    Enhanced Administration and Repository Reconciliation
&#1048696; MDM Server and MDM Console
o Roles may include constraints based on Named Searches.
o The Relationships table in the MDM Console now contains the Code field.
o The default Remote System is created as type Inbound/Outbound (previously
    Inbound).
o Austrian German is available as a data language.
More information: MDM 5.5 SP06 – Console Reference Guide.
    follow the link:

    hope this may help you,

  • SAP MDM Console

    Hi,
I'm new to MDM Console. Can anyone please tell me how can I, from SAP MDM Console restrict a particular user from <u>viewing</u> specific records in MDM Data Manager.
    Thanking you in advance.
    Hemal

    Hi,
You can achieve this using Masks.
    Step 1:
In the Data Manager , you filter records based on what ever condition you are looking for. Add the filtered records to a Mask.
If you have no masks defined in the Data Manager.
Select Masks table from the top left corner list in the Data Manager and create a Mask.
Once you finished creating the Mask, go back to the Main table and add the Filtered records to the created mask.
(Select all the records right click and select Add to Mask and select the Mask).
    Step 2:
    a. For New Role:
    1. In the MDM Console for that particular repository, create a new role and in the role details grid, select Table/Fields tab and look for Masks table. In the Constraints column, you select the Mask you created in the Data Manager.
    2. Assign the created role to the user.
    b. For Existing Role:
In MDM console select the role in the repository and
in the role details grid, select Table/Fields tab and look for Masks table. In the Constraints column, you select the Mask you created in the Data Manager.
    Hope this helps.
Let me know if you need any additional information.
    Thanks and Regards

  • Compact Repository Function- MDM 7.1

    Hi Experts,
I need some help as in , Is it like the compact repository option has been not incoprated with MDM 7.1 SP 04 or so.
    if yes why ?
or some other option can fulfill its functionality in MDM 7.1 ? how it is impactiong the whole MDM application ?
    Deep

    Hi Deepak,
if anybody can make it more elobrate ?? this is as per my understanding.
Compacting a repository: When the number of records in an MDM repository has been reduced significantly, the MDM repository becomes sparse and the MDM Server becomes less efficient. You can use the Compact command to reduce the runtime memory used by the MDM repository and increase its speed.
Other SDNers - Can you share some more on Compact repository ??
The Compact operation is a legacy utility designed to renumber record IDs in the unlikely case that the total number of records
in a repository becomes greatly and permanently reduced. Because it changes the ID values of existing records in the repository, Compact does not support expressions, workflows, or other MDM features which expect a recordu2019s ID to remain constant. Due to its rare applicability, its incompatibility with newer MDM features, and the greater memory capacity of modern servers, compact functionality has been removed from the MDM Console as of SP6 Patch 3 and should not be used in prior versions of SAP MDM 5.5 SP6.
For more details Please refer Page no 195-196/353 (MDM Console Reference Guide 5.5)

  • When mount MDM server on MDM console...MDM Console hangs.

    Hi,
when i try to mount MDM server on MDM console, MDM Console hangs and then i have to stop MDM console with task manager.
For this i have tried with restarting  MDM server - then also issue was not resolved, then i have rebooted the server, then issue resolved.
But rebooting the server is not permanent solution, this problem occurs everything next 3-4 days.
Please let me know the cause and it's solution if anyone has faced the similar issue.
    ---------------Server details----------------
    SAP MDM 7.1SPS11
    OS - Suse Linux
    DB - MaxDB
    MDM Console is also SPS11
    Thanks and Regards,
    Murtaza Najmi

    Hi Murtaza,
This may be due to the memory full issue. It is advisable to allocate appropriate memory in the RAM where server is running. Generally it will be done by the DB team or Linux/unix team. Raise this ticket to your concerned teams.

  • MDM Console - security and views

    Hi,
I access MDM console remotely on the Windows 2003 server that hosts the MDM system and locally on my own laptop. Both machines run the same version of MDM Console 5.5 SP6 (5.5.63.87) and I have Admin access.
When I view the repository on the Windows 2003 server I can see detailed information (individual fields and detail) when I view the repository from my laptop I can only see the detail.
If I use PORTS as an example. On the Windows 2003 server I can see a list of the ports and when I click on them I can see the port definition. On my local machine all I can see is the port detail (eg, the table definition).
As I have the same version of MDM Console installted on both machines (I have even checked the executable size and date) I'm at a loss to understand why the repository looks different when accessed from the server and my machine.
I have checked the MDM Console Guide and that doesn't offer an insight. I am still searching SDN without any luck.
    Your advice is appreciated.

    Rob
This might sound silly but are you sure the detail panel in MDM Console has not been pulled up to the top?
Can you attach a screenshot with the Port example?
