Stop at end of each song

Hi,
I'm hoping someone here can tell me how I might be able to get iTunes and/or iPods to stop at the end of each "song" and wait for me to hit the play button (or space bar) to play the next song.
Why you ask?
Well minidisks (MDs) are used this way in theater productions for sound effects. I see no reason (especially given Sony won't make Minidisk software for Macs) why iTunes or iPods shouldn't be able to be used instead of MDs. MDs are so yesterday. I also understand MDs are used for Radio this way.

Nope. You would have to manually choose the next playlist this way. The idea is to just hit a button and the next track plays, then stops. You need your finger on button ready for the next cue. You see some time sound cues come rapidly. You don't have time to look to change a play list, never mind what it you accidently picked the wrong one.

Most likely your songs got unchecked.  iTunes will not automatically advance to an unchecked song.
First make sure you can see the checkboxes.  If not, Preferences > General, Show list checkboxes.
If they have gone empty, you can recheck them all at once by holding the CMD or OPTION key (sorry I forget which on a Mac, so if one does not work try the other) and click any empty box.

  • Strange digital artifacts at the end of each song importing via iTunes

I've tried a few variations on archive searches and wasn't able to find an answer to this: In ripping some of my CD's into iTunes (either Apple Lossless or WAV) I've been getting some very odd, brief digital artifacts at the end of each songs on a CD. This sounds like two or three seconds of an audio tape on fast forward. It only seems to happen on new releases (I cannot think of any older CD's it's occurred on). I just got a copy of Mary Gauthier's new album (great CD by the way) and it happened on that one, for example. I tried ripping it multiple times in Apple Lossless, and WAV (always in iTunes) and each and every time it created files where this strange artifact existed at the end of every song. I play the CD I ripped the files from and the artifact is not there. I have several CD's, most of them recent releases over the past five years, that do the exact same thing. Otherwise everything else functions perfectly an the bulk of my 700+ CD library has imported without a hiccup. Is this some kind of anti-piracy technology...or do I simply have some setting off in my itunes preferences (Error-Correction is on, WAV or Apple Lossless is always set to Automatic, have experimented with importing to startup disk and external disk-same results). The artifacts seem to always sound the same too...they never vary, except that they sound different from song-to-song, but the same if say, the first cut is played over again. They are always 2 seconds plus or minus, and always at the end of a cut (the final 2 seconds or so). They do transfer verbatim to my iPod, and also play via iTunes through my stereo.
Anyone have any clues what this might be?

As a follow up, I went to the Genius Bar for a bowl of Mensa Stew, but only got some tepid broth. Here's what transpired:
The girl I was speaking with suggested that the artifact was the software misinterpreting information between the cuts. It was only a theory. She had not heard of any other incidents to relay. First she suggested I rip as MP3's. I explained that wasn't an option for me. She listened to a few cuts on a CD I'd brought with, or rather the ends of the cuts and confirmed there was a problem with the rip. She went through my settings, and asked if I'd tried it with Error Correction turned off. I explained I hadn't and that I preferred to use it. She suggested attempting to rip one of the cuts with it turned off just to see how it did. We did that and no artifact was there. So her 'solution' was to either leave error-correction turned off always, or turn it off for those problem CD's that produce the artifact (I'd estimate about 5% do on my laptop). This did not explain why it was doing it, nor why my g5 tower, which is running a carbon-copied system with all the same iTunes settings, does not produce the artifact with Error-Correction turned on.
I'd be interested to hear of anyone else who's been having problems importing hi-rez files in iTunes. I know of at least one other instance where the artifact produced (on a MacBook) is dis-similar to mine in that it takes the form of brief electronic beeps moving from channel to channel.

  • All my song in my playlists are cutting off either in middle or at the end of each song. How do i fix this?

all my song in my playlists are cutting off either in middle or at the end of each song. How do i fix this?

First, try a system reset.  It cures many ills and it's quick, easy and harmless...
Hold down the on/off switch and the Home button simultaneously until you see the Apple logo.  Ignore the "Slide to power off" text if it appears.  You will not lose any apps, data, music, movies, settings, etc.
If the Reset doesn't work, try a Restore.  Note that it's nowhere near as quick as a Reset.  It could take well over an hour!  Connect via cable to the computer that you use for sync.  From iTunes, select the iPad/iPod and then select the Summary tab.  Follow directions for Restore and be sure to say "yes" to the backup.  You will be warned that all data (apps, music, movies, etc.) will be erased but, as the Restore finishes, you will be asked if you wish the contents of the backup to be copied to the iPad/iPod.  Again, say "yes."
At the end of the basic Restore, you will be asked if you wish to sync the iPad/iPod.  As before, say "yes."  Note that that sync selection will disappear and the Restore will end if you do not respond within a reasonable time.  If that happens, only the apps that are part of the IOS will appear on your device.  Corrective action is simple -  choose manual "Sync" from the bottom right of iTunes.
If you're unable to do the Restore, go into Recovery Mode per the instructions here.

  • Itunes 7 quits at the end of each song.

I just upgraded to itunes 7 from the last version. If I let a song play through, itunes will crash at the end of the song. It does not crash if I switch the songs myself. This problem did not occur with other versions of itunes

I am experiencing this issue as well on 7.0.1.8. It occurs at the end of the last item of any given set of things playing, i.e. playlist, album, podcast, etc. It has nothing to do with crossfade, checked/unchecked or anything else but the song's position at the end of the set.
Beyond being a little weird, kind of annoying, and not incrementing the play count, I think it's the root cause of an actual problem I am noticing. My podcast settings include the option to "keep all UNPLAYED episodes". In prior versions if I listened to a podcast all the way to the end it would get deleted the next time new episodes were checked for. Now, in this version, there is nothing I can do to get iTunes to automatically clean up the podcasts I'm done with. Manually deleting them is fine, but it's impossible to look at the list and remember which ones I finished and which ones I'm in the middle of listening to. It's also just a bummer that something that used to work nicely now doesn't function quite as cleanly.

  • Clicking at the end of each song

    I have a new 160gb ipod classic.
After syncing songs to it from my 1.5gig powerpc g4 laptop i get staticky pops or clicks at the end of every track that has silence for a few beats.
    What the ****?
No pop/clicks on my deck. Tracks from a mix of iTunes store, other downloads and CDs.
    Thanks.

  • Apple TV 3 audio signal goes off after each song?

My Sony receiver has to reaquire the audio signal from the ATV 3 at the beginning of each song when streaming songs from the Mac. This causes a fraction of the beginning of each song to be missing. Very irritating. There is a clicking noise at the end of each song as the receiver loses the audio signal at the end of each song. Is there a way to work around this?

    Hi iman911,
    Welcome to Apple Support Communities.
Take a look at the article linked below, it provides a lot of great audio troubleshooting tips that may be able to resolve the audio issues that you’re seeing with some apps on your Apple TV.

  • I'm a dancer and dj and need to know, how do I play a playlist for a gig and have each song stop before the next one starts?

    HI,
Please tell me how I can use my ipod touch, using the selected playlist and have each song stop after it ends before going to the next?
I'm a dancer, so it's hard to dj and dance at the same time.  I don't want to hit pause!
    Thank You,
    Natasha

Many restrictions are intended to defend against kids who are trying to bypass controls and break into the System to run their own software from CDs or external drives. If you don't need those restrictions, you can turn them off and allow external drives to be mounted and show up.
Parental Controls is definitely worth looking into. If it does not offer enough controls, There are additional restrictions that can be applied.
These all come from the world of Mac OS X Server as it is used in Schools, and are applied in a completely non-intuitive way. You use the WorkGroup Manager tool from the Server Administration package (which normally restricts features of Users on a Network) to apply additional restrictions a local User.

  • Can You Get iPod To Stop/Pause At The End Of Each Track

I really need my iPod to stop/pause at the end of each track/song, but it insists on playing right through a playlist one song after another. Does anybody know if there is a way of achieving this, there doesn't seem to be anything in the manuals about this. My iPod is new and is the 60GB color screen model. Any help would be much appreciated.
    Thanks, Peter.

Hi boaster, is this an apple accessory, or where else will I find one? When you say there will be some manual intervention, I presume you have to press the button to actually stop it at the end of each track??
Dave W. I've tried your suggestion and it works fine. Its also good because it keeps iPod within the correct playlist. The original suggestion of one track per playlist also works, but unfortuanatly iPod defaults to go back to the main menu at the end of every playlist so you then have to navigate back to where you need to be. Dave, it looks like your suggestion is the answer at the moment, many thanks, although would like to know more about this 'airclick' remote please. Cheers.

  • "Random" play doesn't work, stops after each song; multiple plays of same

One of the more annoying things happening: random doesn't work.
I've gone through the Zen Media Explorer, reformated the Zen player, so there were no songs on it.
Went and built a list of 37 songs and uploaded via Zen Media Player to the Zen player.
Went to "Music" and selected "All Tracks"
Set my "System" "Audio Settings" for "random" play.
I had to pick the first song to start it off.
It played the first 5 or so songs correctly.
    Then it stopped.
I used the bottom arrow key to "play" the next song. Then it stopped AGAIN.
Now I'm manually making each song play! This goes on for 4-5 songs, then it starts playing automatically - but repeating the songs it has already played. It does not go near the other 28 or so songs that I have not heard yet!
I go back to "Music" and re-set to "All Tracks"
I go back to "System" "Audio Settings" and re-set to play "random"
And it does this annoying routine all over again.
Went back to "System" "Audio Settings" and picked "normal" this time. So of course, its playing all the same songs I've heard over again.
I have to manually cruise the "All Tracks" to pick what I want to hear.
Can anyone help me with this? I can't stand it anymore.

If you installed any software to work with the mouse, remove it according to the developer's instructions, then restart the computer and test. Back up all data before making any changes.

  • I accidentally hit "download all" in itunes on my iphone 5. Is there a way to stop this without going thru each song individually and pausing it?

I am new to the iphone, just got my 1st one today!
I was just going to let the songs download, but shortly into it I got a message saying I had used 50% of data plan for MONTH, so I panicked and was just pausing each song as it started downloading.  There's several hundered songs.  Then I got a message saying I had used 75% data!  I turned on my airplane mode to stop everything.  Is there an easy way to stop the songs from ALL downloading without going thru each one individually?  I'm not very tech saavy, so please be nice and use small words...  Thanks.

Syncing shouldn't trouch you photos unless you have photos in a Photo Library album.  These would be photos that were synced to your phone from your computer.  If you do have any, you'll need to use an app like PhotoSync to transfer them to your computer prior to syncing.
If you prefer to backup your camera roll photos prior to syncing, open iTunes and go to Preferences>Devices and check "Prevent...from syncing automatically".  Then connect your phone to your computer and import them as explained here: http://support.apple.com/kb/HT4083.
Then, to minimize data loss, follow the steps in this user tip: https://discussions.apple.com/docs/DOC-3141.  To follow the steps, first open iTunes and go to View>Show Sidebar.  Also, Transfer Purchases is now located in File>Devices.

  • Is there a DJ app for the Ipad that will read the "start" and "stop time" setting for each individual song, as they are set in the song Options screen in Itunes?

Is there a DJ app for the Ipad that will read the "start" and "stop time" setting for each individual song, as they are set in the song Options screen in Itunes? The Ipod Touch, by itself does not allow cross-fading, therefore when the stop time is edited short, the song jusst truncates then goes to the next song. I tried the DJay ap and while it would crossfade, it would NOT read the song settings for the stop marker. So now I want to try and Ipad and see if there is an app that will READ the Itune stop settings within the song. I do NOT want an app that will allow me to DO the stop marker. I want an app that will READ the stop marker from the song as it is set in Itunes.

Itunes provides the option for setting the Start and Stop times of each music track.  However, the start and stop times do not synchronize to the iPhone.  I don't understand why this option is even available as it doesn't work when listening to music on the phone.  I have not found another application that will support the start and stop time markets.  I have searched quite a bit for this but can't find anything.  I hope we can find something.

  • What iPod models stop at the end of each podcast?

Often when I listen to podcasts, such as the middle of the night, I don't want the iPod to move on to the next podcast. I just want it to stop. My original iPod did this automatically, but my newer one, an iPod classic, to my great disappointment, does not.
Is there a setting I'm ignoring?
Is there a new model of iPod that allows me to choose when I want it to continue on to the next podcast and when I don't?
For example, when I'm driving, I'd like it to just continue on to the next podcast.
So far, I've had to search eBay for an old iPod model, but I'd like to buy a new one...
I can't believe that there's no setting for a user to choose for this important detail!!!
    Thank you for any help!

Just have each song as a separate playlist.
You can use the SpotLight search on the iPod to find songs as well as other things.
You can also change what the search shows to only include music. Go to Settings>General>Spotlight search

Other people have been having similar problems with songs over a number of days, I assume that there has been a problem with Apple's servers.
Depending upon what country that you are in (music can't be re-downloaded in all countries) then try deleting the incomplete tracks from your iTunes library and redownload them via the Purchased link under Quick Links on the right-hand side of the iTunes store home page on your computer's iTunes : re-downloading.
If you aren't in a country where you can re-download music or if they re-download in the same state then try the 'report a problem' link from your purchase history : log into your account on your computer's iTunes via Store > View My Account and you should then see a Purchase History section with a 'see all' link to the right of it ; click on that and you should see a list of your purchases ; find those songs and use the 'Report a Problem' link.
