Stop auto sync & change to manual sync

My Blackberry Curve 8330 automatically syncs all music from windows media when I open the mass storage & I want to know how to make it stop so I can manually sync only songs I want.

The next time you connect your IPOD, check the box that pops up in ITunes 7. It should state whether the update setting is checked as "manual", if so, there s/b a grey checked box right below that says disc enabled. If that's the case, ignore what the IPOD says...Last night I was playing with this for hours and I finally was able to change the update setting to manual once I upgraded to version 7. Despite the "Do not Disconnect" warning, My IPOD had the same number of music files before and after.
You can also, charge your IPOD on a computer that doesn't have Itunes loaded.

  • New iPod Touch 32gb stalls after starting sync, error 54, manual synce gets dumped

I just got this thing at Walmart last Sunday and its been driving me nuts all week! It's the brand new iPod Touch 32gb 4gen. When trying to sync it will start to load music then stall. Sometimes it gives error code 54, sometimes says it cant convert song, cant find song, or just stalls. If I wait anywhere from 15 minutes to an hour it will finally un-freeze and dump everything or say the connection has timed out. I've ran repair on iTunes from control panel, no help. Un-installed iTunes and re-installed it then tried synce, no help. I un-selected everything in the iPod summary so that it wont try to synce when I connect it and selected manual synce. Then I could sync a few songs at a time, but it still stalls after only loading a few songs on iPod. Tried dumping everything out of the ipod and start over, several times, no help. I've been 6 days, all day, every day, and half the nights getting a few songs at a time on this dam thing. I found when it stalls if I turn the iPod off to force it out of iTunes I can then restart iTunes, reconnect the iPod, manually select 15 to 20 songs and drag them to the iPod. A few times I got over a hundred to sync but usually 20 to 30 songs then it stalls. Then I have to do the whole thing over again. I had a little over 1200 songs out of the 1877 songs, 11.28gb, in my music library when the last time it stalled, it dumped everything. 4 or 5 days of manually syncing a few songs at a time, GONE. Just poof, all that work for nothing. The only thing left on it is 92 of the hundred something songs I've bought from iTunes. I'm ready to take a hammer to the dam thing and send it back to Walmart where I got it.
I'm using a Dell Studio 17 inch laptop that's about 4 yrs old running Windows 7 that I installed 2 years ago. I had a iPod nano 2gb that worked fine with this computer & iTunes untill it died last spring.
Why do you have it set up so that one little hickup and the dam thing dumps everything thats on it? I cant even stop it from starting to sync when I connect it because I need to see the settings in the summary for the iPod to change the settings, but I cant see that until I connect it, but as soon as I connect it, it try's to start the sync and stalls feezing everything.
Can anybody help me before this thing drives me completely over the edge!?

I have a older Dell Optiplex desktop computer running Windows XP. I copied the iTunes  folder on my laptop to an external drive and plugged that into my desktop computer. Then connected the iPod Touch to the desktop. For some reason or other the computer thought the iPod was a camera and wanted to know which photo program to open with or for it. I never did get iTunes on my desktop computer to "see" the iPod and had to give up that idea.
When going into the My Computer or Windows Explorer - which is the one I like to use for working with my files-  when I connect the iPod to my computer in Windows Explorer it will show the iPod. Open that and it shows Internal Storage, open that and a folder with DCIM shows below it, open that and a folder with 860OKMZO on it shows below that, open that and it has the 40 or 50 photos I saved from Facebook. That's it, there isn't anything else shown in its storage. The iTunes on my old Desktop doesn't see the iPod Touch either.
Even if the iTunes on my old desktop would work with this iPod Touch it wouldn't do me any good. I read in a post that once it is connected to a iTunes Library, if its connected to any other iTunes Library on a different computer it will dump everything that's on it. Which is totally stupid but I think they - iTunes - have it that way so that you cant share your music with somebody elses computer. But that also makes it so I cant manually sync one thing at a time with my own iTunes Library. I tried syncing my music first and after I got some of it on the iPod, in its summary I deselected the music sync and selected the movies or video's so I could manually synce a few to it to see if it would work. Bad move. As soon as I did that it dumped everything that was on it, then said that it could not sync the movies because the files could not be written. HUH? Why a video from YouTube could not be written beats me. But why did it dump all the music?
The last thing I did with it was put all the options in the summary in iTunes back to default, removed everything on the iPod that was left after its last dump, then disconnected it, closed iTunes, and rebooted my laptop and started over from scratch. Started iTunes, connected the iPod, after iTunes found it I opened the iPod summary, made sure everything except sync photo's was selected, then started the sync function. It immediately listed all the songs and the songs info in light gray under music on the iPod. It only got 2 songs copied, then stalled. I just left it alone to see what it would do. I opened the Windows Task Manager to see what it was doing. Even though the iTunes program appered to be stalled it was using 50% of the CPU. After about 15 minutes it showed a popup window saying the song could not be writen then another saying its connection to the iPod had timed out, then iTunes stalled and "not responding" showed in task manager and at the top of the iTunes window. After 30 minutes I had to force it to close with the Task Manager. By then it was after midnight and had been another 12 hours wasted messing with this thing.

  • Changing to manual sync while the ipod is NOT connected?

I was trying to find out if there was a way to change the iPods setting to sync manually (or only for selected material) without connecting the iPod to the Mac.
I do not want to loose high score settings on some games. As far as I can tell I can change settings only when the iPod is connected to my Mac, and when I connect it will initiate an automatic sync all as that was the setting when last connected to the Mac!
Is there anyway to change the setting to manual without having the iPod connected? Alternatively, is there anyway to disable sync, or cancel sync before connecting the iPod?

*Is there anyway to change the setting to manual without having the iPod connected?*
    No there's not
*Alternatively, is there anyway to disable sync, or cancel sync before connecting the iPod?*
Yes there is. You can use a keyboard command to prevent your iPod auto-syncing with iTunes. While connecting the iPod to the computer on a Mac hold down the Option and Command (⌥ and ⌘ Apple) keys. This will stop the iPod from auto-syncing with iTunes and it will appear in the source list. Wait until you are sure the iPod has mounted, and that it will not auto sync and then you can let the keys go. This may take between 20 to 30 seconds depending on your computer. You should then be able to change your settings: http://docs.info.apple.com/article.html?path=iTunesMac/7.3

  • Changing itunes to manually sync to ipod

Am trying to save photos on ipod so that i can download them to my mac, but itunes keeps automatically starting up and syncing..... and wont let me press/change to 'manually' sync..so how do i change this and stop it from getting rid of all my photos on my ipod?

Connect it to your 1st computer.
Set it to Manually manage music.
Connect it to the 2nd computer.
Double click the iPod on the desktop.
Open the Photos folder and get the photos you want.

  • Auto-Sync Music, Manual-Sync Videos?

Is there any way to put Music playlists on auto-sync, but still have Videos on manual?
I really would like to be able to copy movies and TV shows to the iPod, and then back them up onto DVDs, so they don't take up precious space on my hard drive.
But sync-ing music playlists is convenient.
Podcasts can be managed separately; why not videoes? Or am I missing something?

Once you set your music to Auto-sync, you should have the option to either Auto-sync, or to manually sync the videos. The one confusing part of this is that if music is set to manual, videos are forced to be synced manually...
    Let me know,

  • Manual sync in multiclip

Short version: with a multiclip in angle editor, I'm trying to manually sync a clip, that has to be moved in front of another clip in the same track (both clips are shot with same camera). When I move one clip in front of the other, the already synced clip gets moved out of sync. How do I lock the synced clips and manually sync other clips?
    Longer version:
I used Pluraleyes to create a multicam clip with 3 cameras and a separate audio recorder. Most of the clips were synced, but there are a couple clips that didn't get synced. Now I'm in angle editor, and want to manually sync the clips that didn't make it.
One camera stopped, so there are 2 clips from that camera. Pluraleyes wasn't able to sync the first of those two, and it left that second clip at the end. Both clips are in the same track. There's a clap at the beginning, so I just need to move that second clip before the first one. The problem is, when I move the clip in front of the other one, the synced clip gets pushed forward. How can I lock the synced clips?
Here's a screenshot. All showing is synced, except clips on far right. I want to move that clip on the right, top track, in front of the other clip on the top track, but when I do so, the synced clip gets pushed to the right, out of sync.
ETA: I just realized I can add an angle, and drag that unsycned clip to the new angle to manually sync. But I wonder if there's a way to what I was trying to do so I can stick with one angle for that camera.

OK, I'm sure I'm doing something stupid, but when I try to slide the clip into sync on the new angle, it keeps snapping back--I can't move it one way or the other. I have unchecked snapping.

  • Need to change auto to manual sync and not delete iPod...

I've inherited an issue that I need some advice on...
I've ended up with a 4G click wheel iPod and a windows laptop, currently set to auto-sync. Someone has deleted most of the music off the laptop. I can't change the connection settings to stop auto-syncing the iPod until I connect it - but won't that be too late? Will it just start to delete stuff of the iPod on its own?
Any thoughts - suggestions I'd be grateful for!

You can copy the songs off the iPod to the laptop manually. Just stop the iPodService before connecting the iPod. The iPod will show up as a drive letter and iTunes will not auto start. Then copy the songs off to the hard drive. Only start iTunes after you have copied them over.
If iTunes starts to sync by mistake, there's an X icon in the top right area of the oval shaped status window in iTunes. The same place where it normally says Copying songs to iPod or what have you. Clicking that X makes it stop whatever it is currently displaying, including an iPod sync.

  • Hi at the moment my ipod is on manual sync mode. Is there any way of changing this to auto-sync without losing the music on my ipod or library? Possibly more importantly is there a way I can transfer the ratings from my ipod onto my i-tunes?

This is so I can delete music from my ipod knowing its rated on my i-tunes so I can then see later if I want to re-add it based on its rating
    Thanks

    Unfortunately there is not.

Not without the help of third party software such as this one:

  • Manual sync v Auto Sync

Hello, first post. Probably wouldn't have had to if i didn't "upgrade" to 3.1.3 but such is life!
I've had a variety of ipods since 3rd gen and always used them in manual manage mode, mainly because I like being able to delete things straight from the ipod, make new playlists, change song names, genres etc.
Since I paid my £2.99 to upgrade a couple of weeks ago (I only did it to get a specific app and quite liked the look of the search function and the genius mixes) my pod has been all kinds of tempremental - problems with syncing, the dreaded error 6999 message, constantly having to restore etc. I gather there's problems with Windows 7 compatability but I seem to have ironed these out just by deciding to auto sync rather than manual.
Trouble is, i listen to most of my music on my work computer which obviously has no music on it's hard-drive. I now can't listen to anything because my ipods on auto sync and it appears you can't listen to songs as they've been greyed out when they appear in the library.
My question is, if I change to manual managing whilst I'm at work, will I be able to change back to auto syncing when I get back home without it deciding to wipe everything off and then re-sync everything again! Since I upgraded, it's taken me the best part of two weeks to get 5,000 songs back on my touch (I've still got about 3,000 to go!) and to have to do that everytime I switch between computers would be a nightmare. If I can't, are there any other media players that I can use to play music from my ipod, without changing the way it syncs?

    Welcome to the discussions,
every time you change from manually managing music to autosync, all media content will be replaced with the content of that current library. See this article: http://support.apple.com/kb/HT1535
The only thing to prevent this from happening would be not to switch back from "manually".

  • Auto Sync to Manual Sync

How do I change from Auto Sync to Manual Sync in iTunes?

Plug in iPod. In preferences there is a check box to turn on manually managing contents. Forget the exact wording.

  • Can I just stop iCloud and go back to manually syncing?

How can I get out of iCloud.  Have had nothing but trouble.  Can I just stop iCloud and go back to manually syncing?

Yes you can stop iCloud and go back syncing manually. You can disable the whole iCloud account, or simply stopp iCloud for a certain app.

  • Itunes 10 will not stop auto syncing

I have itunes 10 on a mac and a 160 gb ipod classic.
it will not stop auto syncing when I plug in my ipod, even though "do not auto Sync" button is checked as well as checking off "do not open itunes automatically.
It syncs FOREVER. I would love to find a way to stop this from happening. I dread plugging in my ipod to put on new music etc.

I have had this problem with Windows 7 and iTunes updates for some time. Each time it takes hours to solve but with the over the air upgrade to IOS6 on my iPhone and iPad, I was determined to solve and remember what I did, So here it is:

  • How do I stop auto-sync?

I need to get my Mac to stop auto-syncing my Address Book (so that you don't see those arrows spinning up on my menu bar). Any ideas?
    Thanks,
    Raymond

    http://raymondrodriguez.net/sync.jpg
Ok, ever since I plugged my new iPad into my MacBook, my MacBook kept popping up messages about merging my Yahoo contacts with Address Book. I resisted these constant pop up messages for over a week and then I finally gave in and said "Fine, do it!" So then I checked Address Book on the MacBook and it's duplicated most of my contacts many times over. Around 10 times each. I figured it was an error so I went and deleted all of the copies. I noticed this arrow thing spinning on my menu bar later on that day (syncing MobileMe) and so I canceled the sync. After that I checked Address Book and all those contacts were copied all over again. Now it's been about two weeks and each of those contacts has 94 copies each(!!!). I don't have MobileMe so when I go into my System Prefs I can't edit it to stop doing this syncing process since it's asking me for my member name and password. So frustrating!
I hope that made some sense to you.
    Thanks,
    Raymond

  • HT1351 I'm trying to manually sync all my music to my iPod touch, but whenever I click the sync button it counts to 5 then stops. Is this because I have to check all 3055 songs individually? If so then I'm quitting with apple as a whole....

Sync and manually manage are two entirely different things.  You either sync or manually manage.
Manually manage is drag and drop.
Sync is when you select what you want and then sync.

I really don't appreciate the fact that no one from Apple seems to be dealing with the many, many threads that have started on this topic since iOS 7 came out. In any event, I seem to have solved my problem with a full software restoration -- that is, iOS software restoration.
I clicked on "Restore iPhone..." which does a complete reinstall of the iOS but also all apps, photos, songs, etc. Took about 45 minutes, but seems to have worked.
I had previously tried reverting to a backup of my iPhone, but that did not solve the problem. Only a full restore solved it.
