Stop auto updating of extension

I use the extension 'Tab Mix Plus' When they went to version 4.0.X , one of the functions was discontinued. I contacted them and they say there will be no change. I load an earlier version, but periodically it auto updates. I can reload it but this repeats. I have check the box for 'Check for updates, but let me choose...', but this does not work for updates of addons. Is there a manual way in 'about:config' that I can stop the auto update.

you can disable auto-updates for a individual extension in the add-on manager by right-clicking it, then go to show more information & select "automatic updates: off"

how can I stop Fire Fox 11 from auto update to FF14 ?I need FF11 and no higher for the version of Facebook i'm using

Change your update preference from automatic to notification. See this article:
    https://support.mozilla.org/en-US/kb/update-firefox-latest-version#w_how-do-i-configure-update-32optionssf33preferencessf
By the way, after each update Mozilla publishes the security vulnerabilities in the previous release, so running old versions does expose you to potential exploits. I have no idea why you can't run Firefox 14 on your version of Facebook (???), but you will have to decide what level of risk to run. Good system backups are advisable.

  • How stop auto update before you insert the ipod

This seems to be a real quandary. sometimes you want to insert your ipod without the whole updating thing taking over you ipod. but I don't think you can change that setting unless the ipod in plugged into computer, and if setting is auto update it just starts. any ideas appreciated. thanks.

thanks Niel, but before I proceed, what exactly happens when you do that, does the ipod not do the auto update? and you can access or update manually?
also, anyway to stop the updating once it starts? thanks

  • TS3147 How do I stop auto updates for an HP printer I no longer have?

I keep getting auto update notices for a printer I have discarded.  How do I stop this?  Within the last year my "HP" printer quit and I replaced it with a "Brother" printer.  It is annoying to keep getting the HP irrelevant update notifications.  I removed the HP printer info in the application folder on my hard drive, but that did not help.

I use Find File myself.  I think it has been discontinued.

  • How do I stop auto update of date/time

    Hi,
I'm starting to despair, a while ago I stupidly clicked on auto update/time on a letter I was working on, it seemed like a good idea at the time. But now whenever I open any letter the date is automatically updated which is a major problem as I am losing the references to when I actually wrote and therefore sent these letters. I'm too scared to open letters now because I'll lose this important piece of information.
    Any help appreciated!
    Thanks
    Nathalie

Next time, don't use the Pages 's insert date_time feature.
Use the one delivered in the free WordService from Devon Technologies.
It always inserts a fixed date_time.
But I have wondering about your problem.
    The Pages User Guide states:
    • To add and format the date and time, place the insertion point where you want the value to appear, and then choose Insert > Date & Time.
To change the date and time format, Control-click the date and time value, choose Edit Date & Time, and then choose a date and time format from the pop-up menu. *If you want the document to always show the current date and time, select “Automatically update on open.”*
Which, if I understand well means that the default setting is that the inserted date_time is a frozen (fixed) one.

  • Can't Stop Auto-Update

When I connect my BB Bold and startDesktop Manager, it automatically launches into auto-update: "Checking for device application updates...". If I click on "Cancel", it ignores me, but it doesn't hang. It eventually comes up with the message: "Updated versions... are available.. Blackberry 4.6 Core Applications". I am using 4.7 - So that doesn't make sense.
I have tried to disable Auto-Update by clicking on "Check for Updates" and un-checking "Check for Updates automatically". But that makes no difference. I have looked for and renamed Vendor.xml (per some suggestions) but cannot find a Web.xml file. Renaming Vendor.xml to _Vendor.xml (so I can undo the change) makes no difference.
    Any more suggestions?
    Sean

First off, your device does use the 4.6 software, even if the version of BlackBerry Desktop Manager is 4.7.  There is no 4.7 OS for the Bold.
Second, the reason you're seeing this message is likely because you have the device software installed on your computer.  Go to your computer's Control Panel, then Uninstall Programs (in Vista, it's under Programs & Features in Classic View).  Remove any BlackBerry Device software you see (not the Desktop Manager, just the device software).  Once this is done, restart your computer.
    This should resolve the issue.
If you want to thank someone for their comment, do so by clicking the Thumbs Up icon.
If your issue is resolved, don't forget to click the Solution button on the resolution!

  • My podcasts stop auto updating

They stop automatically updating when I haven't listened to one in a while. It's annoying because sometimes there's reasons I haven't listened to one in a while but I still want it updated.
But iTunes insists on stopping updates if I haven't listened to one in a while.
I haven't found anything in preferences that lets me change this either. Anyone have a solution?

This has always been annoying.  At least now it tells you it has stopped updating. In left column next to name it put exclamation point next to a couple podcasts in list. When I clickon on it to see what it was I got a message asking if I wanted to continue.

  • Stop auto update

This topic was deleted last time I asked the question because the gods moderators decided it wasn't a question.
How do I disable automatic update of iTunes? Again, last time I posted people flat out denied that what I said had happened had actually happened. But I am not making this up and it has occured twice recently. I open iTunes and it has updated itself. I did not do anything to prompt this or even consent to this update. Yet when I opened iTunes today it had a new interface and forced me to either agree to the dictator's Apple's terms or not use iTunes at all and render my iPad, iPod Nano, and iPhone useless.
I veriified in iTunes preferences that "check for new software updates automatically" is not checked. Every single time that Apple software updater pops up on my Windows 7 computer I uncheck al the selections and click quit.
Yet it seems there's no escaping. When Apple decides I should be running another version of iTunes, apparently I have no choice in the matter, being a mere user who has been granted a license to use this technology on Apple's terms or not at all.

When I clicked on Help | About iTunes it says version 11.1.3.8.
All I know is that when I opened iTunes this morning, the interface was completely different than last night, and I was forced to either click "agree" to Apple's license agrreement or the program would close.
It sounds like an update to me.
It was much smoother than the last involuntary update when the program complained that my database was corrupted and I lost some (legitimately purchased) content. But that's neither here nor there. I just want to stop these imposed interface changes.

  • IPod shuffle= no pref. to stop auto update/sync with itunes 7

If you have an ipod shuffle and you plug it in to your laptop, with your itunes library located on an external drive, itunes 7 will automatically sync the shuffle with itunes 7 and if the ext. drive is disconnected, subsequently erase all songs on the ipod, because it cannot find the itunes library.
    this stinks.
I see no solution, until apple changes or adds a preference like "manually manage music" which seems to be available for other ipods, but not the shuffle:(
even enable disk use doesn't help:
    http://docs.info.apple.com/article.html?artnum=61019
my OG thread from last week:
    http://discussions.apple.com/message.jspa?messageID=3258360#3258360

    hmm - curiouser and curiouser
I've now managed to get it to manually update (after iTunes took 100% of system resources and I had to force quit it...) but that still doesn't really help me with the auto-sync feature which still won't work

  • How do you enable auto-updates for extensions?

I'm trying to set up my extension to check for a newer version in when the Extension Manager is run. I vaguely remember reading about adding an element to the manifest.xml file where the element is the URL of a .zxp file. It then checks the version number of the file at that URL against what is currently installed. I've check the Extension SDK pdf and have found nothing. Any insight into this would be awesome!

Yes - same stuff! There's also a web version, the specific page you're interested into is: http://helpx.adobe.com/extension-manager/kb/make-extensions-updatable.html

  • How do you make Mozilla listen to users and stop FFFFirefox Auto Updating despite being set to NOT auto update?

    I am spitting nails
After all the STUPID problems outlined here
    https://support.mozilla.org/en-US/questions/999831?esab=a&s=&r=0&as=s
I set Firefox to stop auto updating,
Then the other day I installed a new user on my laptop, when they loaded Firefox it auto updated MY version of Firefox.
    Has NOTHING been learnt?
    STUPID STUPID STUPID STUPID STUPID
    So I have 2 questions
How do you make Mozilla listen to users?
and how do prevent what happened to me happening again?

    SuperSluether
Not a millionth, you have only provided 150 answers and I doubt they were all this issue.
If you don't like it, don't use it.
If a business took this attitude they would soon be out of business
    Updates help KEEP YOU SAFE
Sometimes, but in my experience FFirefox updates can really screw up your system, lose you data, mess up your user interface. I have run IT for one of the biggest intranets on the planet and we never allowed even Mictosoft updates until we did User Acceptance Testing and understood the impact of the upgrade. I am a grown up not a child, I have system where I test updates for performance, security and impact, I WILL DECIDE when I want to install it. If Mozilla wants to provide real security updates I would take them but if you look at the link in my OP you will see it said an update was security and it completely messed up.
Updates add tons of great new features
Actually with FFirefox in my experience they take more away than they add, things I did not ask them to take, they do not look at my config and leave my settings as they were and then tell me about new options, no they completely screw my productivity as it takes days to figure out how to undo the kwap they have added. Copying the AWFUL Chrome interface is not an improvement, Google has one of the worst UI's on the planet accross all their products.
Firefox is designed to be customized PER USER, NOT CROSS-SYSTEM
There are some things that benefit from being per user and some that are per machine, windows has group policies per machine and per user. My OP is telling Mozilla that this is another area where they have "designed" badly, I tell them this so that they improve it and in the vain hope that there is some config setting that will stop this nonsense.
So SuperSluether you have not really helped, all you seem to say is FO if you do not like it. Good job you do not run a business. With that attitude probably best you do not contribute.

  • Why, when you have auto update on, isn't the same language installed as before, but English instead.

When auto update the new version installed is English and different from the original language installed. Probably the same thing happens with thunderbird. When I have a language installed I want an update in the same language without having to reinstall the wanted language.

I already thought of that but it can't be the way it is suppossed to be. Firefox, and Thunderbird, offer an auto update function so the update automatically sould be in the same language and not in English as it does now. Downloading and installing your own language you can hardly call auto update.
For now I have stopped auto update till a solution is presented.

  • Why aren't my plugins auto updating like I have it set for?

I have set up for my add-ons to automatically update but find they are not always doing that. i.e., Java and Adobe. I know that I can manually do it but do not want to have to and that is why I have it set up to auto update.

Only extensions can be updated via Firefox.<br />
Plugins like Flash and Java are installed via other programs and software on your computer and you need to updates plugins yourself manually if they do not check that automatically when they are used.
