The Reset Firefox feature can fix many issues by restoring Firefox to its factory default state while saving your essential information.
Note: This will cause you to lose any Extensions, Open websites, and some Preferences.
To Reset Firefox do the following:
#Go to Firefox > Help > Troubleshooting Information.
#Click the "Reset Firefox" button.
#Firefox will close and reset. After Firefox is done, it will show a window with the information that is imported. Click Finish.
#Firefox will open with all factory defaults applied.

• WHY AM I NOT AUTO RE-DIRECTED TO WEBSITES IN LOCATION BAR?

In prior version of Firefox, when I'd click on a site in the drop down menu in location bar, I'd be automatically brought to that site. Now it doesn't load auto. Any way to change this back? Thanks.

This issue can be caused by an extension that isn't working properly.
Start Firefox in <u>Safe Mode</u> to check if one of the extensions is causing the problem (switch to the DEFAULT theme: Firefox (Tools) > Add-ons > Appearance/Themes).
* Don't make any changes on the Safe mode start window.
* https://support.mozilla.com/kb/Safe+Mode
See:
* Troubleshooting extensions and themes
In Firefox 4 you can use one of these to start in <u>Safe mode</u>:
* Help > Restart with Add-ons Disabled
* Hold down the Shift key while double clicking the Firefox desktop shortcut (Windows)

• I clear the browsing and download history already, but the history still auto-appear in the location bar when I type the site url. Why?

I use
tools -> clear recent history -> browsing & download history (everything)
However, all the news or urls I visit couple months ago always auto-appeared when I type the url in the location bar.
I've observed this situation since Firefox 4 or 5, so I am googling how to really delete all my browsing history.
Also, it is weired and angry, firefox keep to remember the wrong id/password of web server authentication data, since I edit my id/password. Firefox always show me the wrong id/password, even I delete everything and every categories in the "Clear All History". It looks the clear history feature doesn't function as it indicated.

Here is how you do it:
Firefox > History > Clear Recent History
(Or Tools > Clear Recent History)
Then in the opened window hit the button beside details and then check all of the available things in there.
Also pay attention that everything is selected in the list of the upper side.
If this helped you, please hit 'Solved it' Button so the topic would be closed.

• Unable to open websites from address bar

I can open links from firefox home page, so it can be sure that connection is OK, but when I enter a website at address bar it navigates to a page having text 'Unauthorized request'; at source code its a simple text and not a HTML page giving no clue from where this responce page is generated. At error console it reads unable to read 'C:/.../chrome.manifest'

This sounds like an add-on may have got broken somehow.
Try following the steps for Troubleshooting extensions and themes and see if that helps, and then post again.

• Disable loading of site from location bar

I've been using Beta 4 for a while, and it seems in the last two builds the location bar auto complete seemed to change a bit. I love how FF will work and pull my recent pages in the location bar as I type parts of the page name. However, it is extremely frustrating for FF to automatically load the page before I even click on the link. Often, it will load a page that is inline with the results put into the bar, but not the desired page. (Ex - I want to visit 10.15.1.10, start typing and after putting in 10.1, it loads 10.19.1.10, the page I just came from. At this point the page has loaded and I need to restart entering the desired address)
Is there any way to make it so the behavior required to load a page is either click or press enter?

It's particularly annoying when your favourite link need a password: the login/password dialogue box appears after every keystroke and grab the focus of the location bar without explicit permission.

• Firefox 4 does not search from Location Bar (Awesome Bar)

I have searched the knowledge base, and not found anything exactly like my problem. A similar question, Url Keyword guessing does not work is close... but only close. Link below.
I was previously able to type some keywords into the Location (Awesome) Bar, and it would either jump to an appropriate page, or come up with a Google Search page of possible sites.
I have upgraded to FF4, and while I can successfully conduct searches from the dedicated Search Bar, typing keywords into the Location Bar brings this problem. I have used "Mozilla Foundation" as my search keys:
Firefox can't find the file at jar:file:///C:/Program Files/Mozilla Firefox/omni.jar!/chrome/en-US/locale/browser-region/region.propertiesmozilla+foundation.
The portion file:///C:/Program appears blue as if it is a link, but clicking on it, nothing happens. I have attempted multiple search keys, and nothing changes.
I have attempted to use the about:config | keyword.enabled to turn it off, then back on, and it doesn't seem to have worked. I really can't decipher anything about the message that I do get (above). This may or may not matter, but I was surprised to find that my existing Add-On, "Microsoft .NET Framework Assistant 1.2.1" is no longer compatible, and thus not functioning.
Thank you very much for helping.

You can modify the pref <b>keyword.URL</b> on the <b>about:config</b> page to use Google's "I'm Feeling Lucky" or Google's "Browse By Name".
* Google "I'm Feeling Lucky": http://www.google.com/search?btnI=I%27m+Feeling+Lucky&ie=UTF-8&oe=UTF-8&q=

• Refresh button is missing from location bar and bookmarks toolbar is blank when I first start FF30

When I start Firefox 30, my bookmarks toolbar is blank. I have to deselect it in View > toolbars then reselect it and they appear.
Also my refresh button at the far right of the location bar has disappeared and all I see is a magnifying glass.
Another issue I now have is that when I copy and paste the URL for any page into the location bar, this then triggers a Google search and doesnt go directly to the page associated with the URL.
I have tried renaming the FF profile and uninstalling/reinstalling FF but this hasnt resolved.
Any pointers to what my next step should be would be most welcome.
Im using Windows 7 Professional SP1 32-bit

Hi Tora Bisu,
Thanks for the reply, however this didnt help me because you didnt tell me where to find the setting "hide urls stop/reload button", and i couldnt find it myself.
However I did resolve the issue myself by disabling addons one by one and reenabling them til I discovered the culprit.
The culprit as i discovered was the Classic Theme Restorer, which has now been duly disabled and will not be used again.

• Remove Bookmarks from Location bar.Remains despite History only option

Need to clear present bookmarks (stars) from my location bar history , and not have them appear during browsing. If I suggest History. and then eliminate them by highlighting and DELETE, it solves the problem temporarily but then returns when I close, restart or turn off and start to browse again

If you want to remove all traces of a site, open up the history sidebar (use keyboards shortcut Control+H), locate the site in the history, right-click on it and select "Forget About This Site". That will delete all traces of that site from browsing history, cookies, bookmarks, passwords and site preferences.

• Any way to stop auto shared volumes from opening in finder when booting?

Leopard 10.5.8, but has been happening since at least 10.4.x...I have auto mounts setup in my user preferences, the auto mount fine, but the automatically open up too...makes it very annoying having to close all windows every time I boot the system...we have multiple Mac Pros running both Leopard and Snow Leopard...is there any way to stop the opening of the shares when I boot? maybe an applescript or something? thanks.

there are some fancy solutions to this using autofs or /etc/fstab but a less involved method might be by using applescript. open Applescript editor (it's in /Applications/Utilities) and paste the following in it
mount volume "afp://nas.ip.address/path-to-share"
add a line like that for each share you are mounting.
save the script as an application and add it to your login items. on the first try it will ask you to enter user name and password if your shares have any. enter those and check the box to save it in the keychain. it won't ask again. this will mount those shares without opening separate finder windows.

• How can I stop partially filled out "Contact Us" websites from disappearing

If I want to contact a supplier to complain about a problem with his goods, on his website I find a form "Contact Us". This form usually has mandatory lines for my name, e-mail, address, phone number, etc.which must be filled out. Then the subject matter is supposed to be typed up in the space provided on the Form.
Many times such a Form suddenly disappears from the screen, before my typing is complete. Some of such disappearances are triggered by hitting the "Return" on the keyboard, when I want to start a paragraph. Obviously such a website is set up to understand this button only as "Enter" (because there is no proper "SENT" button) and thus sends the form up line uncompleted.
In any case, it suddenly disappears from my computer. The recipient will have no idea what the incomplete form is really about, and thus will not respond. What is really troubling is that when I go to my FF History and reload the form, or reload from the back-button, the form will only re-appear totally empty, and all my previous typing on the same form is lost.
Is there a way to set FF Preferences to prevent the disappearance of the completed content?
If not, there should be, both to stop the whole thing from happening over and over again, and secondly to provide an e-mail like record of what comment was sent by me.

As long as a text area has focus then the Enter key should add a new line.<br />
If you are in a single line input field then the Enter key will submit the form.
It is best to use the Tab key to move to the next field when filling a form.

• Drag URL from location bar focuses unwanted tab

In all of the browsers I use, I'm constantly dragging URLs from the address bar to <elsewhere out of the browser, e.g. a folder>.
("Because that's the way I work, that's why.")
In or out of ffox safe-mode, and no matter where I place the tabs bar, if the dragging path crosses a tab (i.e. the tab header where the page title is displayed), that tab is focused i.e. selected AKA activated.
This is often a big performance hit (Definition: more of a hit than I'm willing to sustain), not to mention a d**ned annoyance.
And the re-focus initiates pretty quickly.
I'm not dragging particularly slowly. Definitely not hovering.
I'd be happy even with a solution which simply lengthens the interval before this happens.
I've searched about:config for 'delay', tried changing a couple of <not very plausible> candidates, no joy.
Using ffox 36 after a very long time of not using ffox, so I can't say if this is long-standing ffox behavior.
TIA
p.s. -- I.T. guy who's been doing this since before the PC/XT. As such, reeeeaallly hoping for zero replies which mention 'reboot', 're-install', 'try older', 'try newer', 'virus', 'new profile', HJT, MWB, etc.
IOW, hey, you kids get off my lawn.
alt keywords URL Bar, Awesome Bar, icon, favicon, anchor, tabs toolbar, mouse, pointer

Fred, cor-el...
Another part of "the way i work" is that most of my windows, and especially the ones i use the most, are placed:
-- tight against the right side of the desktop (actually, a few pixels past), so that i can just slam the mouse (pointer) against that side, and thereby
land squarely on the scrollbar without any fine manual control; and
-- tight against the top, so i can do likewise to bring a partly-covered
window into focus by landing squarely on its title-bar. (The windows are
all kept at dimensions that make them overlap, both left-to-right and
top-to-bottom, so that the lower-left corners tend to form a top-left to
bottom-right diagonal across the desktop. That way i can easily switch to
any window by touching an unobscured part of either its title-bar or its
bottom border.
The short-and-wide windows are things with a lot of columns, like directory / file trees, spreadsheets, etc., and the tall-and-narrow
windows are the text-dominated apps like browsers and editors.)
I already do leave part of the desktop visible at the very bottom and the
very left. So, i can easily drag links (or other items) from a page (or drag
the URL), either to the desktop or to pretty much any window which i
have open and un-minimized.
The other factor is this: i keep the "taskbar" configured to appear only when i slam the mouse (without needing careful positioning) against the
LEFT of the desktop (so the window titles are actually wide enough to be
legible) -- and i do likewise for the browser, i.e. have the tab bar on the
left so that the tab titles are wide & legible.
So, it's difficult to do the dragging without either passing over an
unfocused tab, or moving the mouse more slowly and carefully than i'd
rather bother with (to avoid being slowed down). About the only thing
which would consistently work, is to carefully drag to the top (or past
the bottom) of the browser window, without crossing an unfocused tab,
and then to the desired drop-point.
As i mentioned in the O.P., it would be a lot easier if there were some
way to just *slightly* increase the x-millisecond lag between the time
the mouse first crosses a tab, and the time the focus is switched.
As i said, i'm back on firefox (for about 2 months) after a long time away.
And i don't have this problem on other browsers. I don't remember how long the "change-focus delay" was on Opera12 (maybe even infinite),
but I just now tried it on Chrome 32, and it's about 500 msec if i pause
over an unfocused tab, and about a full second if the mouse is constantly
moving -- IOW, plenty of time for me to "pass through the neighborhood"
without having to think about it.
And here's irony: on SeaMonkey (2.33), it doesn't happen **at all**.
Unfortunately, neither Chrome nor SM seem to have a reliable,
non-kludgey way -- not even with extensions -- to have vertical tabs as an
integral part of the browser window.

• I can't delete history from location bar anymore, pressing delete only eliminates it for that instant, but doesn't remove from history

upgraded to firefox 4 today

If you want to remove all traces of a site, open up the history sidebar (use keyboards shortcut Control+H), locate the site in the history, right-click on it and select "Forget About This Site". That will delete all traces of that site from browsing history, cookies, bookmarks, passwords and site preferences.

• Titles missing from location bar dropdown

The page titles and URLs are not displaying in the location bar dropdown that should display the history. The page icons are there on the left, as they normally are, but all the text is missing.
I recently had to end the firefox process as my browser was hanging. The problem has been occurring since then.

• Is there any way to stop websites from auto-playing their content (music/videos) when the page loads?

Certain websites have ads or content that plays music or videos and they are not always easily found to turn off. This also slows down my connection as it is constantly streaming or buffering and I have no way of stopping it. Is there any way that I can disable the websites from automatically playing their content?

Is there any other options for this?
I don't want to block the audio/video, and I do use ad-blocker... However, it's just really annoying when I "open link in new tab" for something I want to look at a little later. Especially if I open several at once, I get multiple tabs playing audio and/or video, and sometimes it takes a while to figure out which tab is doing what...
The issue is I don't want to "block" them -- I just don't want them to play until either the tab is "activated" by clicking on it, or better yet, to only play when I click on the audio/video link.
Thanks!
