iTunes has stopped automatically syncing new books placed in Library with open file. I have to drag the file to the device to get iTunes to sync the book. Why?
Ever since version. 7 iTunes has stopped syncing checked books without dragging them to my iPad. all settings are correct.  I have set up 3 new devices and had to direct the new people to drag the books to their iPad. previous to ver. 7 this happened automaticlly just by syncling the device.  This issue isn't just on my computer but at least three others. books purchased from apple sync just fine. If is drag the book from the library ad drop it on the device it syncs fine.  What a pain if you have added several files now you either have to do the drag drop process for each one as you add it or try and remember which files you added the find them and do the process.
    Thanks

    Hello BBWEST11,
This may be due to iTunes 11 being set to manually manage content on devices by default.
By default, iTunes 11 and later is set to manually manage your content on your device. Manually managing your device allows you to choose the content you want to have with you.

  • How do I automatically Sync IPod Touch with Outlook Calendar?

I am looking for ways to automatically sync my IPod Touch with my Outlook Calendar.  I used to be able to do this with MobileMe but the new MobileMe calendar has messed it all up.  The MobileMe calendar's interface with Outlook makes it so that I would have to manage two separate calendars.  All I want to be able to do is enter events into my IPod touch and have it sync with Outlook without my having to do it manually.  Anyone know of another software that I could use?

    Hi,
I don't know about syncing what you put on your iPod's Calendar to Outlook, but under Settings>Mail, Contacts, Calendars, you can sync Outlook with your iPod.
    Hope this helps!

  • How do I make my iPhone stop automatically syncing duplicated Outlook contacts?

My Outlook stores multiple contacts for the same person automatically (one with an email address only, one with a phone number only, etc.). When my iPhone syncs with the cloud it stores those multiple contacts and makes it frustrating to look up one person's number and email under separate entries. How do I prevent my iPhone from storing the duplicate contacts?

    Thanks Jim,
I'm looking for a way to automatically unify the contacts that are automatically synced from my Outlook. Is that a possibility?
Also, do you know how to unify Outlook contacts in the same way you would on the iphone?

  • IPhone has stopped automatically syncing

My IPhone will not automatically sync when plugged into computer…the boxes are checked to automatically sync,
    What has happened…

You may have to uninstall and reinstall it. All i did on vista is go to control panel, programs, find itunes, but not uninstall it. i clicked repair. Not sure if xp does that. After i repaired it. I plugged my phone in and itunes started automatically and synced. If you don't have the repair option uninstall it.

  • HT1495 How can I stop automatic syncing when device is plugged in

I have turned my iPad 1 into a loaner to granddaughters.  I wish to plug it in to one of my computers for syncing, posting apps and song lists, but don't want it do draw data from the existing files.  I want it to work the same way my iPhone and iPad work now; iTunes opens up and shows two devices, each separate from the other but both syncing to separate data on the same computer.  I can't figure out how to do that from reading you HT 1495.  Any procedure available for that?

On the Devices tab in Edit > Preferences on your computer's iTunes there should be a tickbox for 'prevent iPods, iPhones, and iPads from syncing automatically'. Is that what you mean ? That setting should apply to all devices that are connected to that iTunes.

  • Why has my iPhone 4s stopped automatically syncing?

My older iPhone used to sync automatically to my desktop whenever I plugged it in to charge, but for some reason, probably simple, it doesn't anymore...any thoughts.  I'm not a techie, but can handle the basics... Thanks, Tom

    Greetings Leshmook,
It appears you are experiencing an issue with contact syncing. That does sound troublesome. To help you resolve this, I have linked to an article that offers troubleshooting suggestions for this issue:

  • When automatically syncing iPod, copying freezes.

Using my ipod for the first time, iTunes is attempting to automatically update the files.
Whilst copying (which I have tried several times), it freezes. This is not at one particular point (in the four times, each time it has frozen at a separate point).
iTunes does not respond once this happens and I need to force quit it. Next time I go into it I have needed to replace the library file with the old file (version 6 file - I have just updated iTunes as well) as when opening it brings up an error message to the effect of 'can't read it - the file or disk it is on may be locked'.

A friend of mine I am trying to help has a similar problem on a Win2K PC. She initially plugged her new 5G iPod Nano into a USB1 port on her PC and iTunes recognizing it was very slow. I've now installed a Belkin USB2 card and other USB devices now work great there, but the iPod still connects as a USB1 device. When I connect her iPod to another computer with USB2, it works fine.
Something funny happened during the initial plug in to USB1 that has wrong drivers associated with the iPod. I haven't yet found any advice on how to correct. Following the Apple support document on doing a full uninstall of iTunes (including running Windows Installer Cleanup) doesn't help.
I feel for you. These install issues on older PCs are a real pain!

  • IPod- I don't want it to automatically sync...  :-) Please Help

    Hi-
I would like to add some songs to my iPod, but not synchronize it to my PC, as it is set. I am afraid if I plug it in to my computer, it will automatically sync with it. Is there a shortcut, or some way I can make it so I can keep my files and then manually add more? Maybe there are some keys I can hold down while I plug it in?!? Thank you so much for your help...
    Kristi

You released the keys too soon. Best bet is to start iTunes first then connect the iPod.
If it does still start to sync, then you can click the X in a circle to the right side of where it says "Updating iPod" in the top area of the screen, to make it stop updating. If you do this before it starts copying files, no changes will be made to the iPod.

  • Charging stops after automatic sync

    Hi,
My 2-weeks old ipod mini stops charging when the automatic sync is on after finishing the sync process. The only way to continue charging via USB is to change from automatic mode to manual mode. how can I have automatic sync AND charging after the sync process is finished?
Second problem: My older podcasts disappear in itunes. itunes saves only the last one, even if I have selected to keep "all podcasts". Therefore my older podcasts are only available on the ipod.
I use itunes 4.9 and the latest software for the ipod mini (1.4).

Count me in as another person with the same problem.....only by changing the preferences from automatic to manual can I get my ipod charged.....

Have you read for possible solutions over in the "More Like This" thread over here?----------------------->

  • I lost my itunes after syncing and older iphone to my powermac g4.  Originally I had an older ipod nano that I would sync to the g4 and everything was fine. Lost itunes music even though preferences had been set in advance for not automatically syncing.

My itunes library had been fine.  I had been using an older ipod nano to sync with my itunes library and had been doing manual syncs, with the preferences in itunes set for not allowing "ipods or iphones" to sync automatically.  I found out that apple had a program to replace the battery on this older ipod nano, so I sent it in.  It was great, they didn't have an exact replacement and sent me a later ipod nano.  However, this ipod nano is so new - I will have to get a newer computer with a later operating system to use it.
So, I thought I'd use my old iphone to listen to my old playlists.  I thought the preferences were set for not automatically syncing iphone to itunes.
I've had problems in the past with the syncs with this iphone and my computer because of the USB port (1.1).  I'm thinking this was the problem.
The apple store did something to update the software on my iphone when it wasn't working one day. I think that when I tried to sync the iphone to the g4 cube via the old port (1.1) it basically wiped out everything on my itunes.  Whatever was my selected playlist for my iphone - that was the only music
that remained on my computer and the iphone.  I only had about 20 songs purchased on my library, but alot of music that had been downloaded, I gave away those original cds.  I did have a back up on my external drive, but that thing died a few weeks ago from some random power outtages we had this fall.
I'm not looking to purchase retrieval software or have some outside third party to retrieve it for me.  It's not that much music lost.  I just wanted confirmation that this is what happened: that my old iphone sync is what erased the music.

The old iTunes library was lost with the old PC.  However, it all that music and content is still on your iPod there are many ways you can extract this content from the iPod and import it back into iTunes.
Your iPod is designed to sync with only one iTunes library at a time.  It will recognize the iTunes library on the new PC as a new library.  If you sync the iPod with this new library, all content will be erased from the iPod and replaced with what is in the new library.  So what you will want to do is copy everything from the iPod to your new iTunes library on your PC first.
See this older post from another forum member Zevoneer covering the different methods and software available to assist you with the task of copying content from your iPod back to your PC and into iTunes.

  • My apple ipod classic 80gb says there is no music - anything on my ipod, but says it only has 37gb free. Then i try and plug it into my pc with iTunes on (i've set it to do not automatically sync devices) but it still freezes every time. can't restore.

my apple ipod classic 80gb says there is no music - anything on my ipod, but says it only has 37gb free. Then i try and plug it into my pc with iTunes on (i've set it to do not automatically sync devices) but it still freezes every time. the only way to unfreeze it is by detatching the ipod or resetting with menu/centre (until it loads up again, where it immediately unfreezes and comes up with a load of messages saying "cannot read iPod" and when i try and restore it by pressing menu/centre button while it's plugged in, it says "cannot restore as it is being used by another program" or "error 1415". Any ideas how to sort this out? hope i haven't majorly screwed it up. thanks.

  • Every time I download an app Apple sends a notification to my phone to turn on automatic syncing. How do I stop this!!!!, every time I download an app Apple sends a notification to my phone to turn on automatic syncing. How do I stop this!!!!

The topic says it all. Each time I down load an App I get a notifcation to my iphone telling me to turn on automatic syncing. I want it to stop. How do I stop it.

On the device that you don't want the apps to be downloaded on, go to Settings > iTunes & App Stores > Automatic Downloads. Once you turn that off, your problem will be fixed.
