Stop automatically opening next mail

Is there a way to stop Mail from opening the next message? I often want to leave a message unread. But if I delete a read message, Mail automatically opens the next in line. Is there a way that I can manually decide which ones to open and NOT have this automatic feature? I've examine the preferences and cannot find any indication there.

the only way to do that is to collapse the message viewing window completely.
That will mean that you'll have to double-click on a message to view it but it will keep it unread untill then.

If there is a way to automatically open an attached file in a Mail item, it is not one that I would use, because I want to stay in control of my Mac!  Who is it from, whats in it and so on... To me bad idea but then the choice is yours.

  • Why doesn't iPhoto automatically open Mac Mail?

I'm hating iPhoto at the moment.  I use Mac Mail so that I can keep track of sent mail.  iPhoto doesn't do this.  For example, I just discovered that  a dead email account was still on the list in iPhoto preferences, so I'm not sure if the email I just sent went using my current or my old address.  I naturally went to Mac Mail to check my sent list, but there is no indication that I sent an email to anyone.
I also do not like typing the email  within a browser window.  I would much prefer it when I click "share" that Mac Mail would automatically open.
I really, really wish Apple would solve this problem.

Go to iPhoto's Accounts preference pane and delete the mail account that's there.  Then add it back and try Mail again.

  • Automatically Opening Next Email After One is Deleted

On the iPhone 5, when I delete an email, the next email automatically opens. Is there a way to change the settings so that after deleting or reading one email, it will bring me back to the main email screen / list rather than open the next email automatically? Thank you!

No, but you can delete emails from the Inbox by clicking Edit > selecting the email and then tapping Delete, you can also delete an email by swiping your finger across the email in the Inbox and then tapping Delete.
If you want, you can leave Apple feedback here -> Apple - iPhone - Feedback

  • I don't use Mail - how do I get it to stop automatically opening?

Mail opens up all the time, and I don't like using it. I really don't like having to close a million times a day. How do I stop it from opening by itself in the first place? Is that even possible?

Your fan(s) will run at high speed (i.e., loudly) while video is playing, and you can't get around that.
If your fans are not slowing down within 2-4 minutes after CPU- and/or GPU-intensive usage ends, and the application that was showing the video is still running, Quit that application. (In fact, if you're accustomed to Windows, you may not realize that simply closing a Mac application's window does not quit the application. You still need to use the Quit command in the application-name menu. There will always be a bright dot beside or below the application icon in your Dock for each application that is open.) Quit the ones you aren't using, and see whether that allows the fans to slow down without restarting the machine. If that doesn't do the trick, reset the SMC:

  • Emails automatically opens when mail client is launched

When my wife launches her mail client, the emails in her inbox are opened automatically one after another. The only to stop it is to do a force quit. It does not happen on my mail client in my profile on the same computer.
Tried rebooting the iMac but it doesnt help.
Would appreciate any help I can get. thanks,
    Venu

I temporarily fixed the problem by using a simple applescript that plays the notification sound if there are unread mails:
tell application "Mail" to if (count of (every message of inbox whose read status is false)) is greater than 0 then do shell script "afplay '/Applications/Mail.app/Contents/Resources/New Mail.aiff'"
but I hope that in the next update they will fix this strange bug.

    Hi
This may have something to do with the "Automatically retrieve invitations from Mail" option being enabled? Click on the iCal Menu > Preferences > Advanced. It may also be the Alarms setting? This is for 10.6 iCal so it may be in a different place for 10.5?

To the best of my knowledge, there is no way to prevent the automatic downloading of the SD version when you buy an HD show.
You can, if you wish, suggest that the ability to prevent the SD version from downloading through the iTunes feedback page. But since the SD version is needed for use on iPods and there at least at present is no mechanism for someone to download the SD version at a later time should they decide they need it, Apple may just continue to force the downloading of both versions. If they get enough feedback on the issue, though, they may figure something out.
    Regards.

  • On OSX 10.9.13 how do i stop things automatically opening e.g.. mail, messenger

on OSX 10.9.13 how do i stop things automatically opening e.g.. mail, messenger when I log in?

Closing the window does not quit the application. It's not Windows. Apps have multiple document windows. Each window is not its own app. So, if all you were doing was closing the document window, the App was still open.
Kies may have a launchagent set up to start it up when you log in. You'd have to check with Samsung to find out how to disable it. I don't know anything about it, but if you can't solve the dilemma, I can likely lead you to the places to look for the file that causes it to startup.

  • Mail (in Mountain Lion) automatically opens my PDF attachments rather that adding them as a file. How do i stop this?

Mail (in Mountain Lion) automatically opens my PDF attachments rather than attaching them as a "file". How can I prevent this?

Download and run the free application TinkerTool (not "TinkerTool System"), select the Applications tab, and check the box labeled Don't display contents of attachments inline. Then relaunch Mail.
