Stop Bridge CS3 Auto Processing my files....

Apologies if this question goes over some old ground....I've had a good look around regarding the problems people are facing with Bridge's auto processing feature, but I haven't yet found an outright answer. So I will pose the question in my own way, and I believe it's a very simple one....
When reviewing a folder of RAW files, how do I stop Bridge from applying auto corrections and just show me each image as it came out of the camera?
Apart from the fact that Bridge's interpretation of the "correct" exposure and colour balance etc is often just plain wrong or at least not what I want, here's my real issue.
I use Bridge to do my initial editing of my images. So I will have a folder of around 1000 RAW files which I scroll through using the arrow keys in "filmstrip" view, applying a label to images I want to keep. This should be a fairly quick process...I'll know within a fraction of a second of seeing an image whether I want to keep it or not....but for each image I currently have to wait for a second or two while Bridge applies it's adjustments and renders the preview image in the top half of the screen, going from a pixelated/blurry image to a sharp "corrected" one. I would prefer to instantly see just a larger uncorrected version of the thumbnail so I can make my evaluation and move on. Working with the number of images I do, even that pause of a second or so adds up to a lot of time added to the job as a whole.
It's infuriating and you would think it would be a simple issue to deal with, but I've yet to find a conclusive answer to it.
I would be incredibly grateful to anyone who can help me put this issue to bed.
Many thanks
Paul Williams

curt,
I understand RAW quite well. I think perhaps I haven't been clear enough about my objection to the default method Bridge employs in displaying RAW images and in opening them in Camera.
Before trying Don's tip, I never got to see anything like the image I actually had shot. Bridge would boost the brightness and/or exposure very drastically. Now that I'm seeing the embedded thumbnails for the first time, I'm amazed at the delicate, nuanced gradients of tone in my sunset shots -- all of which I wasn't getting to see until now.
The thumbnails might be jpgs, but they represent the corresponding RAW images and do so far more faithfully, IMO, than Bridge has done for me up to now. Remember, even in RAW, the operator has to set in-camera many of the same values as must be set for jpgs: contrast, saturation, sharpening, and of course shutter diameter and speed. RAW might have far more latitude in altering these values in post-processing but they still must be set initially so that the computer will have initial values to start with.
Now that I can see the embedded previews prior to Bridge mucking them up, I can see that I shouldn't have to spend as much time in PhotoShop as I do. Apparently a good bit of my editing time, I see now, has been used by trying to undo the harm that Bridge does when it changes the levels of my pix without having been asked.
Your suggestion about finding a good set of levels and applying them across the board seems to me to be equivalent to suggesting that I find an f-stop and shutter speed I really like and using those values for every shot I take. Variations in each scene require more individuated treatment than that. Even within a single shoot, I usually cannot synchronize my Camera RAW settings across more than a half-dozen or so photos before needing to adjust for changing light levels from shot to shot.
But it's clear to me that the initial values i've been shooting with are far closer to what my eyes have seen, and make a better starting point in PS than the product that was being produced by Bridge when it was making unwelcome changes to my photos. I feel like I've been trying to edit for the past couple years with a blindfold on and have just had the blindfold removed for the first time!

Jim

  • How to stop Bridge from auto-launching

I recently enabled a option to auto launch Bridge and I think I did it through inDesign CS5.
Where do I stop Bridge from auto launching?
    Thank you for any help!
    Best,
    John

You may find that it's not a 'Bridge' thing. I presume you are on a Mac... and have the lastest OS?
When you do a hard shut down and then restart, any apps that were open will re-open.
Also if you quit a program with something open. Quitting and restarting the program automatically opens what was previously open.
I find that I have gotten into the habit of closing before quitting... quite annoying.

  • How do I stop Illustrator CS3 from continually stealing file associations?

Since moving from CS2 to CS3 I've been plagued with a file association problem. Every time I run Illustrator CS3, it steals the file association for .FLT files (this didn't happen in CS2). .FLT files don't appear in the Bridge so I can't do anything about it there. Problem is that .FLT files have been around since 1990 and are used by a 3D modelling package. Now Illustrator keeps trampling the file association and I can't figure out how to stop it. The .FLT files I've used for the past two decades are NOT Illustrator filters.
Anyone got any bright ideas? At the moment I have a registry hack sitting on my desktop that I have to run each time I close Illustrator.
    C.

Ok here's the solution to this.
It turns out that Illustrator deletes and resets the .flt file extension key and the Adobe.Illustrator.Filter key every time it is run. Removing registry permissions for system didn't work, neither did removing them for owner/creator.
It seems that the change happens as "me" - the person logged on. As I'm an administrator anyway, I was able to remove all rights for every user (including me) except administrators, and then change the administrator rights to allow everything except set and delete.
So the .flt file extension key is essentially locked down completely now, and the problem is solved. However as the owner of the key I can still get in and change the set/delete flags if I ever need to change it again.
Thanks to Harron for giving me the hint on the right way to pursue this.

  • Stop cf server from processing particular files

Bit of a strange question this.
I want to stop coldfusion server processing certain .cfm files in the root of my site, i want them to get processed by IIS as plain html. Is this possible? i guess its more of an iis question.

there are thousands of links pointing to this file, internal and external and it would affect rankings on search engines.
I do not want cf to process this file as its too slow to run now. i'd rather have a html version served up that was updated every 15 mins.
the clients server is shared and the cf service seems unreliable.

  • How to stop Lightroom from auto-adjusting RAW files

Is there a way to stop Lightroom from automatically "fixing" my RAW files? When I first load them in they look perfect (like they do on the back of my camera), but then LR auto-adjusts them to make them dull and desaturated and not at all contrasty. Is there a way that I can set LR to not do anything to the files and let me decide what I want the original to look like?

I totally understand where II is coming from. I too find it bothersome that in some images, the pre-processed preview is a more pleasing image than the unprocessed RAW. At the same time, it is the unprocessed nature of the RAW image that is the whole attraction and point to shooting RAW. An obvious workaround (if one is willing of course) is to shoot RAW+JPEG so as to either have the JPEG as a "target" reference or final image when suitable. And that is an option I used to employ until I got tired of dealing with the issues of essentially doubling the number of images I was working with.
I do disagree with II's thought that the preview showing up is slowing down any processing of the RAW image. It would seem to me that the whole reason the preview is showing up is that it is a prerendered aspect of the file that pops up while the actual preview rendering is taking place. While I don't claim to have technical knowledge as to how this all works, I would think that LR is simply showing the initial rendering of what the RAW file is telling LR it looks like until LR can actually make it's OWN interpretation. Either way, the process is fast enough that it isn't a huge issue to me on my system. In fact, those images where I see a vast difference between the inital preview image and the LR rendered resolve no slower than the rest.
It is interesting to know that there are applications/utilities out there that will extract that inital preview though. I thionk it would be very cool if LR made use of such a capability more directly as an option.
Anyway, while the frequency of my use of LR so far pales in comparison to that of PS and Bridge, so far I can say that such discrepency between nice looking inital preview and less than so RAW is far less common than it is working with PS and Bridge CS2.

  • Bridge(CS3) conflict with Windows file explorer

Bridge will crash on me at least twice a day. I use Bridge and Windows file explorer simultaneously copying and moving files across a network. When Bridge quits I sometimes lose my network connection and have a lot of trouble re-connecting.
I have done the usual delete preference, trash cache etc., nothing seems to be working.

Not sure what is going on there, but have a suggestion. You are increasing your odds of Bridge crashing, and trashing the cache, if you move too fast. When in Bridge wait for the spinning arrow in lower left corner to stop (it is building the thumbs) before changing folders.
Don't see any correlation between network connection and Bridge crashing. Perhaps if you have a slow computer you are overloading it with tasks and it can not keep up. Minimize programs running at same time.
Also, run task manager and see what the processor is doing. If CPU useage goes up markedly that will confirm the problem.

  • Stop Bridge from Auto Expanding Across Monitors

This has been happening for a while, but my bridge usually lives on my right screen but it will sometimes automatically span across both of my monitors when I do an action like create a new folder and then it blows up all the thumbnails so their huge. It's becoming annoying and if anyone knows how to stop this from happening I would greatly appreciate it. My machine is running windows 7 and no other app does this, only bridge.
    Thanks

  • Bridge CS3 ver 2.1.0.100 most  buggy bridge ever

With previous versions of bridge for CS3 I had occasional problems. The most vexing was that some Canon xti Camera raw files (CR2) and dng files could not have their file info changed via bridge. When I would right click on these files, the file menu that came up would lack the choice for modifying file information. It was impossible for these few files to use bridge CS3 to get to fields such as document title, author, author title, description, etc.
If I opened the same exact files in the bridge for CS2, it was possible to modify file info for every one of them. The problem files when later opened in bridge CS3 would show the file info put into them with the CS2 bridge--the one that worked. It was still impossible however in bridge CS3 to modify the file info for these occasional files.
I made the great mistake of upgrading to bridge CS3 2.1.0.100. Today I took more than 240 photos. It is not possible to modify the file info for any of them with lousy bridge 2.2.0.100.
The new version also crashes much more often, simply disappearing without any error messages.
In addition, at least some photos whose file info could be accessed via the older version of bridge CS3, no longer allow such access under the newest bridge version.
The new bridge version is a massive step backward.
Open challenge to Adobe--I will be happy to send you 200 plus problem files that only work properly with older versions of bridge. You could use them to fix bridge.

I have found CS3 less buggy that I expected.
I have found "Bridge CS3" outstanding, but no doubt, some will experience problems.
    Experience is great teacher
But I do keep CS2 on my machine for those times I cannot wait for whatever fix might be necessary.
    Do not worry.
The problems many are having, whatever that may be, and it is somewhat varied, will most likely be worked out in CS4.
I contribute many of these problems to be lack of control over the hardware that the software must function on. Windows vs. Mac ideologies rear their heads here. I use Windows and that is definitely my problem.
    Get used to it.
CS4 whatever = CS3 whatever with most problems fixed.
CS3 = CS2 with most CS2 problems worked out with some tool palette changes users have been asking for years, along with "some" real graphic ability improvement, along with some abilities that probably > 80% of us will never use. Better camera support in Camera RAW.
Most all of this depends on how much money you have to devote to Photoshop, its upgrades , and the cost of the demands for appropriate hardware.
    Note:
I was just using the "spelling checker". On this forum "Photoshop" is an unrecognized word. It wants to spell it:
    "Photo shop"
    or
    "Photos hop"
    Go figure.
Just my 2 bit opinion which wouldn't buy you a cup of coffee or anything else.

  • Import DNG files processed in Bridge CS3

I have imported 500 DNG files that have had some adjustments made to them in Adobe Bridge CS3. Aperture 2 does not seem to recognise the RAW adjustments that have been made in Bridge. I copied some of the DNG files to a DVD and then opened the DVD on another computer that has Bridge and the adjustments stick with the DNG file. How can you import DNG files into Aperture 2 that have been processed in Bridge without having to make the adjustments again?

    {quote:title=Mark P A wrote:}How can you import DNG files into Aperture 2 that have been processed in Bridge without having to make the adjustments again?{quote}
You can't. The raw conversion made by ACR can not be read by Aperture and vice versa. The only reason you can read the settings in the DNG- file on another computer with ACR is that the sidecar file is embedded in the DNG. If you had not converted to DNG, then you had to export the XML- sidecar file as well if you wanted ACR on the other computer read the settings made to the raw file.

  • Bridge CS3- Labels & Ratings disappear after processed in Noiseware (was okay in Bridge CS)

Okay, I guess I should count my blessings that this is about the only annoying, recurring problem I've had with Bridge CS3, unlike the crashes that others are dealing with.
Windows XP w/ core 2 6600 2.4GHZ, 3GB ram. A large percentage of my 300GB hard drive is used but that was the case when I used to run Bridge CS. Software- Adobe CS3 Web Suite
Whenever I run a file through Noiseware (Stand alone version) I lose all labels and ratings. This did not happen with Bridge CS version. Anyone experiencing the same? I am always referring back to my ratings and labels so it's a major problem to lose them. Only thing I can do for now is save it with a new file name and then re-rate & label the newly processed file to match the original, but when you are dealing with dozens, if not 100's of files, 2 extra steps is a lot of wasted time!
Thanks in advance for any input.

Thanks curt. I had that problem way back when I first upgraded and it had something to do with renaming files. I fixed that but I still cannot fix this conflict with noiseware software. It blows...to lose all my labels & ratings everytime I have to use the noiseware.
I wish ADOBE would help!?!?!? Where are you guys? Seems like once you purchase the software, we're just on our own!

  • Process Multiple Files in Bridge

I am trying to process multiple files in Bridge CS3 using Photoshop Elements 9.  It does not give me an error, it just does nothing.  Can someone help me figure out how to fix this?  It used to do this now I am having problems.

Can someone help me figure out how to fix this?  It used to do this now I am having problems.
Without knowing your workflow or your OS to my knowledge Bridge CS3 is not designed for Photoshop Elements 9 but for Photoshop CS3. There used to be a Bridge CS4 version bundled with PSElements 8 for a Mac but thats all I know about it.
However if you want to open files from Bridge in PS Elements you should either select the files you want and with right mouse click menu choose open with and from the submenu choose PSElements 9 or go to the Bridge preferences file type associations and change the file type you need in PSE to open in PSE9 by default.
If this is not the answer you expected could you be more specific about OS (windows/Mac) and what you mean with process (raw settings, batch actions or just open in, etc.)

  • Color Cast Only On Mac Generated jpg files When Viewed In Bridge Cs3 Preview

    Hi,
( Issue With Cs3 Bridge Viewing Jpgs - Getting Colour Cast on the Mac Generated Jpgs Files Only When Viewed In Bridge Cs3 On PC )
Using  CS3 creative suite Mac & PC and viewing all files on the PC.
We have  psd files when viewing in bridge they are  ok and save jpgs via PS3 both on the Mac & PC off the same PSD file that we started with.
But when viewing these jpg files in bridge we get a red cast only when viewing from the Mac generated files from the same PSD we started with.
When we open the jpg files up in Photoshop all of them are ok we no issues only when viewing in bridge we get the red cast.
All PSD files have the same information content:
    Bit depth
    Colour space
    Pixel size
Why are we getting this happening.
    Thnx

Thanks very much for that lead, NormanPCN. I do have Auto Tone checked, though the rendered files in the example above do not have XMP sidecars. I will try unchecking Auto Tone even so, and post back when I see what happens.
    Thanks again,
    Kieren
EDIT: Bingo! I took Auto Tone off in ACR Preferences (in Bridge) and the non-RAW files immediately regenerated thumbs and previews. They now are indistinguishable from the PSD. There is still the very slight difference which I mentioned between the PSD and the CR2. While that seems odd, it is small enough to be relatively trivial.
    Many thanks!

  • Metadata & XMP files in Bridge CS3 under Windows XP

Question regarding Bridge CS3, 2.1.1.9, on a computer running Windows XP Pro, Service Pack 3:
A useful feature seems to have disappeared from my installation of Bridge. In Horizontal Filmstrip view, I used to see a little icon over the thumbnails showing the CR2 files that I had opened and processed in Camera Raw. The icon was a small circle with a downward-pointing triangle, if I recall. The CR2 files that I had never opened in Camera Raw did not show that icon. Now I never see the icons, even for those CR2 files for which the XMP file is present in the same folder as the CR2 file.
Is there a way that I can get Bridge to display those icons again?
    Thanks.

CS3 does have a symbol for a modified RAW thumb. This differentiates if from the unmodified RAW thumb. A circle with 2 arrows in it I believe.

  • Xmp sidecar files- move/delete Bridge CS3

    Hello
Anybody know a good way to hide the XMP files- or can they be moved to another folder? I don't suppose it is a good idea to delete these sidecar files
Is there a way for me to specify in Bridge CS3 that I do not want the .xmp files to be saved in the same folder as the images they are attached to?
How come .xmp files get saved for some of my tagged images and not others?
    thanks

I suppose you could go ahead and make them all hidden files. But you're going to have to do that every time you start working on another new raw file. If you're going to work with raw images you might as well just get used to seeing them. Another alternative would be to use the DNG converter to convert your raw images to DNG files. Then you wouldn't have to worry about XMP files at all because all the metadata is stored within the DNG. But that's up to you.
Another thing to consider. If you hide all those sidecar files and then decide to move your images you will have to go through the process of making them all visible so that you can copy them. Personally, I don't think it's worth it.

    Help!
I'm unable to delete image files in Preview or Adobe Bridge CS3.
    Workflow:
    1. Take a bunch of photos on my Nikon
    2. Load them to my MacBook Pro, 10.6.3
    3. Open them in Preview and right-click "Move to Trash" on the photos that I don't want.

    4. If I open the bunch of photos in Adobe Bridge CS3 and command-delete the photos that I don't want
==> I get "The operation cannot be completed because you do not have sufficient permissions."
I am logged in as the same user who loaded the image files.
Permission on the image folder start out at
