Stop ethernet uplink port will cause appliance port down

Dear All,
I would like to make sure what kind of network traffic will communicate internal in FI.
I disabled the uplink port, and found appliance port was also down.
Does appliance port need to route to uplink port and then back to UCS server ?
Thank you for clarification.
Best Regards,
Dennis Dai

Expected behavior.  By default, if there are no uplinks online & fwd, then all southbound links (server links and appliance ports) will also go down.
See Abi's explanation here for details how to modify this behavior.
https://supportforums.cisco.com/thread/2187144?tstart=0
In short you have to change the Network Control policy of the Appliance port from the Equipment Tab.

    Using Appliance Ports for NAS
Hey all connecting a NAS to UCS. Would like to plug in directly to FI’s using the Appliance Port option.
    Are the steps basically
Turn on Ports use as Appliance Ports
Make PIN Group through Appliance Ports (this will only be one port per FI, I am guess Port-Channels can be used if NAS supports that?)
    Make VLAN internal to UCS
Make vNIC Template and use newly created VLAN and PIN Group
    Boom!
    Right?
    Thanks!
    Craig

I have made port 20 on each 6120 an Appliance Ports.
Each port is assigned to a VLAN made under the Appliances tab.
Cannot seem to make a PIN group using these Appliance ports. They are not a option.
Is there something I am missing?
    Thanks!

  • Access Connections Ethernet Location Switching only saves one port at a time

Like many other people, I cannot get automatic location switching between two Ethernet networks to work properly.
I have two stored network locations;  one for home and one for work.  Both of these are set up as Best Available Network with both Ethernet and Wireless.
Under Tools - Location Switching, both networks are listed, and "Include Ethernet connections in automatic switching and prompt me to save Ethernet ports"  is checked.    However, in the details column, the current location has 1 saved port(s), and the other has 0 saved ports.    The saved port is always the one most recently connected.
If I go to Edit Saved Ports, only one location is listed, with the correct IP address and MAC address for the router.   If I connect at the other location, only that location is listed, again with the correct IP address and MAC address.
The router IP addresses are different (work is 192.168.0.1, and home is 192.168.1.254), and obviously the MAC addresses are different, so it should be possible for Access Connections to distinguish them.  Unfortunately the only "editing" that is possible is to delete the saved port.  I would be happy to add a saved port manually, but that is not an option.  In addtion, despite the "...prompt me to save Ethernet ports" being checked, I have never received a prompt.  Even if I delete the saved port, it resaves automatically next time without any prompt.
I have also tried setting up both locations as Ethernet only, but have exactly the same problem.
My T520 was supplied with Access Connections 5.85 preinstalled.  I tried upgrading to 5.97 in the hope that it had been fixed in the meantime.  Unfortunately it has not.
Access Connections is still marginally useful to me for automatic switching between Wireless and Ethernet, and for a simple manual switch of settings such as default printer, home page, and file sharing.  However, it would be very useful for the home and work locations to be autodetected and switched.
From the number of unresolved questions on this board on the same topic, it appears that this is a long standing deficiency with Access Connections.  Is there any chance of this being fixed?

I found from another bulletin board that ethernet location switching seemed to work OK with Access Connections 3.82, but stopped working with releases after that, and from my experience still does not work with 5.97
    http://www.thinkpads.com/forum/viewtopic.php?f=18&t=38514
    Two questions:
    1. Does anyone know if Access Connections 3.82 works with Windows 7?
    2. If so, where could I get a copy?  The oldest version on the Lenovo website appears to be 5.50
I will refrain from commenting on the necessity of going back to such an old version to recover basic functionality for this utility......

  • Uplink ports and actual sfp port in switches ( please help )

    Dear all,
I am reading around to see the differences between uplink ports and normal ethernet ports. It seems to be uplink port just reverse the rx,tx pins and remove the needs of using a crossover cable.
I have done a simple representation of using the below (normal ethernet ports)
    PC
    SWITCH
    ROUTER
    RX
    straight
    TX
    straight
    RX
    RX
    straight
    TX

    RX
    TX
    straight
    RX
    straight
    TX
    TX
    straight
    RX
    straight
    TX
I assumed that the SWITCH ethernet port pins are naturally arranged as opposite from the PC so that a straight cable can be used and the same applies to a router port.
Q1) Hence from PC to Router ethernet port, I will need a cross cable, am I right ?
    ============================================================
Then I chance upon this website http://duxcw.com/faq/network/uplink.htm which states "A PC can be connected to an uplink port with a crossover cable"
As per my assumption above, a router has normal ethernet ports and uplink ports (for connecting to the wan/modem), since the normal ethernet ports of a router are in the order of (RX,RX,TX,TX) as shown above, I assumed the uplink port is (TX,TX,RX,RX).
    PC
    ROUTER normal ethernet port
    PC
    ROUTER uplink port
    RX
    cross
    RX

    TX
    TX
    straight
    RX
    TX
    cross
    TX
    TX
    straight
    RX
Q2) So how can the PC connect to the Router's Uplink port using a crossover cable ? Shouldn't it be using straight cable instead if it is trying to connect to a router's uplink port ?
    ============================================================
Q3) Where connecting switches (switch 1 to swtich2) using uplink port, can I say that a straight cable will be connected to switch 1 uplink port on 1 end, and a normal ethernet port in switch 2 on another end ?
    SWITCH#1 ethernet port
    SWITCH#1 Uplink port
    SWITCH#2 ethernet port

    ============================================================
Q4) What is the purpose of an SFP port in a switch ? is it use as an uplink port ? Where does it actually uplink/connect to ?
Q5) If i connect a switch Uplink port to another switch Uplink port, does it means that I have to use a crossover cable ? does SFP fiber come with "crossover" type too ?
    ============================================================
Q6) If an uplink port in a switch is use to connect to a router (can we?), do i need to use a crossover cable then ? since a normal switch ethernet port will use a straight cable to connect to a router port ? as shown below
    SWITCH
    ROUTER
    SWITCH UPLINK
    ROUTER
    TX
    straight
    RX
    RX

    TX
    RX
    straight
    TX
    TX
    cross
    TX
    ============================================================
Q7) Last but not least, if a design connect two switches using SFP uplink ports on both side, what would be the main purpose ? to increase the amount of ports ?  Why not stack them then ?
Sorry for the lengthy post, will really appreciate if some gurus can shed some light on the above.
    Thanks a million.
    Regards,
    Noob

    Hi Noob,
On some kit like netgear hubs etc, you may find a little button or
slider switch which may be labelled MDI or MDI(X) this allows a
straight cable to be used between 2 Hubs or switches (Both DCEs).
Some Cisco switches/routers will allow you to do the same but in software
    interface fastethernet 1/0/1
    mdix auto
    ====================================
DTE devices like say your laptop PC NIC card has an MDI (Medium Dependant Interface).
Physically this wires out as ( For 10/100M):-
    RJ45 PIN
    1  -- TRANSMIT +ve
    2  -- TRANSMIT -ve
    3  -- RECEIVE +ve
    6  -- RECEIVE -ve
DCE devices like hubs & swiches have MDI-X (Medium Dependant Interface - Crossedover).
Physically this wires out as ( For 10/100M):-
    RJ45 PIN
    1  -- RECEIVE +ve
    2  -- RECEIVE -ve
    3  -- TRANSMIT +ve
    6  -- TRANSMIT -ve
So lets connect the device together with a STRAIGHT cable ( Function DTE to DCE)
    PC/NIC = DTE = MDI                                SWITCH = DCE = MDI(X)
    RJ45 PIN                                           RJ45 PIN
    1  -- TRANSMIT +ve -------------------------------- 1  -- RECEIVE +ve
    2  -- TRANSMIT -ve -------------------------------- 2  -- RECEIVE -ve
    3  -- RECEIVE +ve --------------------------------- 3  -- TRANSMIT +ve
    6  -- RECEIVE -ve --------------------------------- 6  -- TRANSMIT -ve
So we transmit from the DTE and receive on the DCE and vice versa (BINGO).
Remember Routers are regarded as DTEs
    =================================
So lets connect 2 switches  together with a CROSSOVER cable ( Function DCE to DCE)
    UPLINK to UPLINK
    SWITCH = DCE = MDI(X)                           SWITCH = DCE = MDI(X)
    RJ45 PIN                                           RJ45 PIN
    1  -- RECEIVE +ve -------------------------------- 3  -- TRANSMIT +ve
    2  -- RECEIVE -ve --------------------------------- 6  -- TRANSMIT -ve
    3  -- TRANSMIT +ve ------------------------------ 1  -- RECEIVE +ve
    6  -- TRANSMIT -ve ------------------------------- 2  -- RECEIVE -ve
So we transmit from the DCE and receive on the DCE and vice versa (BINGO).

  • WLC 5508 reboot cause switch port link flap error disable

    Hi All
today my customer call me saied after reboot WLC , the switch port was err-disable , the cause is link flap
after we reboot 3 times , the switch port link flap err-disable every time
does anyone to meet the same problem??
we don't know why the WLC rebboot will cause it , it just normal action on device
    the WLC version is 7.4.100.0
link switch with access port , no port channel , no portfast
    Asa Hung          2013/05/30

    Hello Asa,
As per your query i can suggest you the following solution-
Complete these steps to reset the WLC to factory default settings using the CLI:
Enter reset system at the command prompt.
At the prompt that asks whether you need to save changes to the configuration, enter Y or N. The unit reboots.
When you are prompted for a username, enter recover-config to restore the factory default configuration.
The WLC reboots and displays the  Welcome to the Cisco WLAN Solution Wizard Configuration Tool message.
Use the configuration wizard to enter configuration settings.
Note: Once the WLC is reset to defaults, you need a serial connection to the WLC in order to use the configuration wizard.
    Hope this will help you.

  • When using an airport extreme to extend a wireless modern, will the lan ports work?

When using an airport extreme to extend a wireless modern, will the lAN ports work?

The AirPort Extreme can extend the wireless signal from another Apple wireless router. When it does, the Ethernet ports on the extending AirPort router are enabled.
Apple's "extend" feature appears to be a proprietary Apple function, so it would be extremely unlikely that an AirPort Extreme...or any other Apple router....could extend a 3rd party router product wirelessly....if that is really what you are asking here.

  • Will a 2 port LAG setup between 2 cisco 200-50s create routing issues?

I followed this guide. http://sbkb.cisco.com/CiscoSB/GetArticle.aspx?docid=caae365b755f46f5989177cb68216304_Link_Aggregation_on_Cisco_Series_Managed_Switches.xml&pid=2&converted=0 and linked ports 2 and 26 on both switches. Outside IT staff seems to think this will cause routing issues if multiple vlans are not involved.

    Hello,
VLANs are not required for LAGs to function properly.  Once you configure the LAG members you can configure the LAG as a trunk port with multiple VLANs, and access port with just one, or even a routed port with an IP address on it.
As long as both sides of the LAG are configured the same way there won't be an issue.  Since these switches are Layer 2 only, they don't even do any kind of routing, so your outside IT may have meant a layer 2 loop, which will happen with multiple connections between the same switches.  But when you configure them as a LAG is treats those links as the same connection, so there is no layer 2 loop either.
    Hope that helps,

  • Can Appliance port be a FCoE target?

    Hi,
Some how i got the feeling that to an Appliance port only a iSCSI target can be connected. I may be wrong. If i am i want the experts to clarify. To me it appears that, UCS FI, can not work as FCF that Nexux 5000 is capable of. If it is not capable of doing FCF function it would always need a upstream to an Nexus 5000 switch ? These things are not very clear on the user guide. I hope the docs gets better in coming days.
Regarding configration of appliance port, i have another question.
During configuration, one step is to assign a mac-address to the appliance port. What is this mac-address? Is it Target port that we are going to connect to mac-address, is it the switch interface mac-address which is it?
    cisco-A-A /eth-storage/fabric # scope interface 1 7
    cisco-A-A /eth-storage/fabric/interface # create eth-target macname
    cisco-A-A /eth-storage/fabric/interface/eth-target* # set macaddress 18:10:10:6f:d2:03
    cisco-A-A /eth-storage/fabric/interface/eth-target* # commit-buffer
If i look at the interface detail it shows,
    cisco-A-A /eth-storage/fabric # show interface 1 7 detail

I connected FCoE target to this port. I dont know where to look for if the target has logged into the switch. Also how can we verify the LLDP negotiations?
    Appreciate your response.

Well I have finally managed to get my FCoE target logged into the UCS Inteconnect.
It is through FCoE storage port. Have to configure the ethernet interface port as FCoE storage port. I was not successful when configured as appliance port.
Here are my flogi database from FCoE login,
    cisco-A-A(nxos)# show flogi database

Because my data is large and importent, so I ask you before I do it.
Thanks for your support. Best Regard

yes it shouldn't be a problem as long as the SATA connectors are using the same controller i.e. nvidia controller or Promise controller. The SATA ports are irrelevant...

  • Does anyone know how to stop the MOTU midi express xt sync port from sendin

    Hi everyone,
The MOTU MIDI Express XT has 7 IN ports and 8 OUT ports. The missing 8th port seems to be a sync. Therefore, there must be some way of switching this off using a MOTU driver. However, I'm not sure how to do this.
I'm trying to use my new 02R mixer as a control surface in Logic. However, Logic cannot learn the command because the sync message (sync port) always interferes with the 'learn' process.
    Thank you for your help,
    Andrew

    Andrew-
I am experiencing the same issue with MOTU MTP AV (usb version). This is interfering with assigning MIDI control features. Did you find a way to mute the SYNC PORT of the MOTU device either using Clockworks or directly in LOGIC? If so, what was your solution? Can anyone else chime in? I looked in the environment and didn't see anything like a PORT MUTE feature. Also, will muting the sync port on the MOTU have any side effects?
    Thanks,
    Alex

I had the same problem.  The fix I found was to open itunes in safe mode (hold down CTRL+SHIFT), click Edit, Preferences, and then the "Store" tab.  Uncheck the box that says "Show iTunes in the Cloud Purchases".  This got me running, but unfortunately I have a movie on the cloud that I now can't see.
