Stop Firefox reloading webpages when hitting back button
Is there any way to make hitting the back button not reload pages? It's become a bit of annoyance to me within the past few days because it sorta messed with my flow.
For example, let's say I'm looking at a phpBB forum. There's a unread posts button next to each topic. I click on the one next to a topic, this topic has 3 pages. The last post I read was halfway down the first page, it takes me to it (and adds "&view=unread#unread" to the URL). I finish reading the page, and move on to page 2. Partway down page two, I decide to go back to page 1 to re-read something that got quoted, and click the back button. But because of what seems like a recent change, Firefox attempts to reload the page instead of its old functionality... and thanks to the unread bit at the end of the URL, phpBB serves up page *3*. Now instead of going back, I've gone forward.
This is irritating. This should not be necessary. In every previous version, clicking the back arrow re-displays the page from cache; clicking the reload button reloads the page.
The back button has essentially become a reload button. It's just wrong. and it fouls up my work-flow. Also,
browser.cache.check_doc_frequency user set integer 2
did nothing to alleviate the issue.

Safari 5.1 reloads page when using back button or gesture
Safari has the strange behavior of reloading pages "navigated to" using the back button or gesture. Most other browsers I've worked with pull from cache when using the back button. I don't think this behavior is compliant with standards - defacto as they may be.
An example of why this is wrong is the navigation of this forum. I just loaded Lion and need to use the forum for support. When navigating back from a particular post to the list of posts the page will reload. Needless to say several hundred posts have been entered since last looking at the list and I subsequently lose the context of what I read last. The list of posts from cache which I orginally looked at should be returned - not the latest updated one. Let me choose when to refresh a page from the cache.
I downloaded Google Chrome to compare behaviors. Chrome does not reload pages navigated to using the back button - it pulls the pages from cache.

ok, since i do not have a trackpad, i used my magic mouse. I changed my swipe between pages from one finger to two and my pages no longer re-loaded. Changing that option back to one finger swipe then set my pages to re-load our setting are slightly differnt, but were looking for the same outcome. Lood for a "Swipe between pages option. Then look for a drop down triangle. now change your swipe left or right with two fingers to one. this should re-load your pages now ;-) -
how do i move the reload page button in firefox OSX to beside the back button where it was before i updated.
i know there is a classic theme addon for windows but i need a fix for osx...its very frustrating when you update and things like this change and cant be customized back to the way we are used to using the browser. its counter intuitive to have the refresh page button so far away from the back and home buttons.Is Classic Theme Restorer only for Windows? I thought it worked on Mac, too. Some of the pre-selected interface items like the Application Button may match old Windows versions and you may need to deselect those in its Settings dialog.

You can get a "document expired" message if you use the back button to return to a specific page and the web site has instructed Firefox not to cache the page.<br />
Firefox tries to retrieve the page from the server, possibly by sending POST data. -

Try closing Firefox completely

The following will result in complete loss of history if it comes down to deleting places.sqlite, so rename files rather than deleting. With Firefox down.
Of course you have backups of your profile you could replace rename and
replace those files instead.

Reloading a Page when Browser back button is pressed

We are designing a web site in which all the pages are dynamic depending on what he does with his email and addressbook system. Problem is when the uers request a change to the his email accounts or addressbook entries he is sent to editable pages .After editing he is sent back to view page .Now when he uses the back button he sees the old record that he modifed which i dont want to do that Instead i want him to show the updated version of that page
Now how to achieve this.
Is there any way to send a request to the server everytime the back button is pressed.
Also i am trying to remoce the cache using the code below but it does not work i just dont know why?

MumtazI also have noticed that in the latest version of Explorer it ignore the no-Cache header when the back button is pressed. Is this an undocumented "feature" put in place by MS or is there a newer header tag that needs to be set. The no-cache and expires tags work fine in Netscape and ealier versions of MS with my existing code. The version I am having difficulties with is 6.00

Often the back button will not work. I can find no "close tab" under the menus, which I think used to be there, and which is used with Internet Explorer to go to the previous page. How can I go back to the previous page with Firefox when the back button will not work?

Iphoto gives message "no images were selected" when hit print button. Yet the the images are clearly selected in the print window. I've printed hundreds of images without a problem before. Iphoto 6.0.6, MAC 10.5.8, Suggestions?
I have recently started having this problem in PSE8. The Adobe workaround
did work, but I don't fancy having to re register each time I use it.
What I have discovered is that it's nothing to do with the image metadata as it occurs before any image is opened.
It SEEMS to only occur if you use file/open with to open an image in the editor - IE start PSE with that command.
If you close elements down, and start it using programs/PSE/Elements (or your desktop shortcut) - the panorama feature magically works.
Each time I've opened the editor 'automatically' using image/open with, it seems to create the problem.

I got 2 coldfusion pages A and B. When i click a link from
page A it goes to page B. When i click the back button of the
browser from page B the page A refreshes and shows. I dont want the
page A to reload when the user hits the back button of the browser
(so that all data remains as it was) from page B.

Why does Firefox always ask me to approve a resend when using back button?
Almost every time I press the back button Firefox presents a pop up to ask if I want to resend. How can I stop this from happening? I just want it to go back to the previous page. It is an irritating waste of time to have to click the resend button all the time.
It is ok that we get an alert before resending post data. But we don't want resend anything when we click on back button. We just want to see the page as was shown last time. When we want to resend data we may hit refresh on the page.

I have firefox set to open "mailto" links, which is desired. However, when clicking the link, the gmail compose window opens in the current tab/window, and therefore leaves the website. Most of the time, the "back" button is not active, so I cannot get back to the website. The back button issue does not happen 100% for some reason.

Reload previous page on back button - using cache control

In my application I am using cache control to avoid the pages to be cached. But the requirement is changed and now the previous page can be re-loaded on hittinh browser's back button even after the 10 mins. i.e if user hits the back button with in 10 mins he should be allowed to see the pre-loaded contents on the previous page. After 10 mins the browser should display the page refresh warning.
a) Old code to preventing caching:

b) I am trying with the code ha changes as to get the previous page with in 10 minutes time:

The above code changes are not working. If uses "no-cache" with max-arg=600 it behaves like the code in section a).
If I uses response.setHeader("Cache-Control","max-age=600"); then even after 30 mins it load the previous page with preloaded contents.
Any help is appreciated.I tried it lots of time by refreshing the browser's cache. I am using IE 6.0. I tested it through FireFox to get the header details. when I submit the request it displays the headers request
