Stop GMAIL synchronisation and keep files in Outlook on laptop

I have a gmail account that I have setup as IMAP account to synchronise with my Outlook program on my Laptop. I have cancelled my gmail account but keep getting login requests in my outlook environment for the gmail account every 2 seconds. How
do I disable the login requests but I still want to keep the "old" gmail files/ mails in my outlook environment for review? Thanks!

If you doesn't want to use the Gmail any more on your Outlook, I suggest delete the profile of the Gmail account and delete the cache on your Laptop. Path as below:
C:\Users\Administrator\AppData\Local\Microsoft\Outlook

Drag and drop file into Outlook from AIR application

I am hoping to see if this would be possible with the Adobe AIR API. We currently have a desktop AIR application that clients install in order to facilitate certain operations triggered via a web application (such as opening files directly from the web).
One of the actions we are requested to support is the ability to drag and drop files from our web application directly into Outlook and have the file added as an attachment. I saw the documentation at Adobe Flash Platform * Dropping file promises and was wondering if this might be a possibility, or if there was some other method of performing this.
We are trying to get around the fact that users now have to download a document to their desktop before being able to attach in Outlook.

Editing PDF and keeping file size small

We are having lot of difficulties in keeping the PDF file small after editing. Our PDFs have text and fields and are used in a browser. They need to be updated multiple times a year to reflect change in text.
PDF was created from MS Word 2010 using Acrobat X.
Word had only Arial and Verdana fonts.
When PDF was created from word, settings were set to "Never Embed" fonts. Till this point, all seems fine.
Now, the moment we try to edit text (even add a letter), PDF prompts that fonts may be embedded and file size increases by 20-30KB.
Checking File-Properties-Fonts show that font has changed to "Arial, Bold Type: True Type (CID), Encoding: Identity-H". Before editing, font type was not CID.
Under Optimization, there is no embedded font and we unchecked “subset all embedded fonts in optimization”. Save the file.
Still File size is higher by 10k-20K - though only one word was added.
Questions:
How to avoid font type CID getting added automatically by Acorbat? It seems it takes more space and we don't need it. We couldn't find a way to remove/replace it.
How to keep the file size not increasing much? Every time we edit with only few words added and do optimize, etc. still file size increases by 10-20 KBs.

As these PDFs are used as electronic agreement forms and have fields/Javascript, recreating them from word requires lot of work. We do understand if there are substantial changes then we should recreate from word as PDF is not designed for major editing. However, in most cases we are trying to edit few lines of text and still file size is increasing by 10-20K.
We have tried Save As but so far optimization option gives us better results in terms of reduction in file size.
We do use common fonts - like Arial, Verdana, Times New Roman. We understand that we should embed uncommon fonts but we avoid uncommon fonts as embedding increases PDF file size.
CID is coming up even when common font like Arial is being used.

Acrobat pro 9 has stopped combining excel and word files

Hello
Acrobat 9 Pro crashes when combining word and excel. It is ok with merging PDFs
I have tried updating the software - it crashes saying install manager has stopped working
I have installed repaired and re installed - still can't combine
It will combine multiple PDF and photo files
Operating system is windows 7

When telling Acrobat to combine DOC/DOCX or XLS/XLSX files Acrobat must use its PDFMaker.
Acrobat asks the OS to open the file(s) native application (Word or Excel for your situation) and then has PDFMaker output a PDF.
Acrobat then combines these PDF files.
But, Acrobat 9 PDFMaker is not compatible in Windows 7.
You can use the Adobe PDF printer to output a PDF from the Word / Excel files then, as you noted, combine the PDFs.
Acrobat X provided a Windows 7 compatible PDFMaker.
However, Acrobat X has been replaced by Acrobat XI.
So, to do what you desire you'd need to upgrade to Acrobat XI.

Problem of long loading and processing file in outlook 2010 of domain user

Dear all,
I have a problem on long loading and processing file when every open outlook 2010
This problem occur when I join my computer to domain (window server 2008 r2) and set outlook of domain user to use shared .pst file, owner by administrator of that computer. Every time when log in to domain user and I open the outlook, it will take very
long time to loading and processing the file, moreover it always ask password of the email I have set. However, when I finish input password and it is finish send/receive the email, the program work normally.
I also try with another user account which is the administrator of that computer, the program run very fast and work normally.
I am not sure the problem is caused from, or is it the wrong way to share .pst file with another user? Any suggestions please give to me.

You need to have an app on your iPad that can use these files. pdf files can be opened by the iBooks app and a number of other 3rd party apps. You will need to check in the iTunes App Store for an app that can handle MS Word files.
You can sync pdfs to iBooks on the iPad following these instructions from the iPad User Guide;
Use iTunes to sync your books with iPad. When iPad is connected to your computer, the Books pane lets you choose which books to sync.

Home Directory Synchronisation and "DS_Store" files

I have five clients on Tiger connected to a Tiger server. All clients are 10.4.8.
Initially I turned Home Synchronising on, but since turned it off, realising I don't really need it. One of the clients, with the biggest profile, still keeps synchronising files. They often get the following message in relation to "DS_Store" files:
You do not have permission to synchronize this file. You can check
your permissions in the Info window in the Finder

My questions:
1. As I haven't apparently turned off Home Sync'ing (via the Workgroup application), what else can I check?
2. What does a DS_Store file do?
3. Will it kill something if I delete all the DS_Store files I can find, so they no longer synchronise?
4. Alternatively, how can I enable DS_Store files to be replicated?

A .DS_Store file is an invisible what controls what you see in every folder/directory. The most imoportant one is the one which controls the Desktop folder in your home directory. The Desktop folder is always open—it's what you see on your desktop when the Finder is running. If you delete the file, for any folder, including the Desktop, it'll be recreated as soon as you reopen the folder or relaunch the Finder, in the case of the Desktop .DS_Store file.
I can't answer your query WRT tp synchronization or servers. You might post the problem to the Servers forum.

Drag and drop files from Outlook move mails to delete box

Hi everybody,
I'm trying to develop a feature to be able to drag one or several mails from Outlook to my Java application.
As Java doesn't recognize a drop of an Outlook mail, in my program, I assume that if it's not a known file type, it is a mail. (I know it's quite straightforward).
When one or several mails are dropped I use a function from a plugin to get detail from the Outlook mails to import them into my application. In fact it import the data from the current selected mails in Outlook. This function is working perfectly when I use it without drag and drop (from a button 'Import' in the application).
My problem is that when I use drag and drop, mails are imported correctly but sometimes (not always) they are also moved in the delete box of Outlook. I have done several tests to try to figure out what is the cause. I have used several versions of Outlook, I have dropped 1 mail and several mails a the same time, etc...
Here are my tests results: it deletes the mails randomly but it seems to delete more often when my Java application isn't in full screen.
What could be the cause?
Another question: is it possible to configure my drop area to do copies only and not move? When you drag and drop you have a small symbol next to your mouse arrow. It is a '+' inside a square for copy and an empty square for move. My drag and drop does move by default. I could maybe avoid my deletion problem by changing it to copy?!

I think I have fixed it. I still have to make more tests, but it doesn't delete the mails any more for the moment.
In fact, when dropped item is detected as a file I do dtde.acceptDrop(DnDConstants.ACTION_COPY);But if it's not, I just set a variable to say that it is an Outlook mail.
So I have added the line dtde.rejectDrop(); to cancel the drop. And now it seems to work.
Apparently, I didn't clean some stuff when doing an email drop and it still wanted to move the mail or something?!

Kde stop to work and conflit file

last system update made my KDE stops to work. Initially I tryied to delete .kde directory, but it didn't help. So I removed kde from my system with :
root@enterprise ~ # pacman -Rnsc kde
and then I tryed to reinstall kde with :

Using USMT to manually backup to USBHD and Keeping File Dates

I am currently using USMT as a method of backing up user data in a corporate environment before a migration to windows 7. in out process we are just using the tool to perform the backup portion and calling USMT from a batch file manually. We
are not using the loadstate function as we like to keep the new user profiles clean and avoid loading setting that are not required, and in our batch file i have set the "/nocompress" option so scanstate.exe creates a folder structure inthe backup
store folder that gets created on our External usbhd's. This process is working well for us as we can quickly see what data was backed up and only copy back the data needed. The only issue is the files dates on all data is set to the time and date
that scanstate.exe is run and we would like to have the dates saved with the files as using have requested this. (even a manual copy and paste will keep the date). I have looked into the "includeAttributes" function but when i attempt to use
this any data that would have been backed up before making the change is now skipped completely. The documentation on the use of this function i find minimal and i also have not found much help searching message boards. I am using MigDocs.xml,
MigApp.xml, and a custom.xml that has some custom includes and excludes. If someone can give me some help or point me to somewhere i can get better info with saving file dates using USMT that would be appreciated.

<pattern type> listed in the <objectset> </objectset> area are skipped entirely when using it. If I set the <includeAttributes attributes="Timefields"> back to the standard <include> the data will backup again
but with date set to time scanstate.exe was run. I can include my custom.xml for reference. I'm hopeing that someone can post a working example that I can reference to figure out what I'm doing wrong.

Re-installing tiger and keeping files?

managed to break osx a load by using some horrible font management software.
if i do a re-install with "preserve users and network settings" does this keep all my old emails, files, mp3s etc?
says Home folders and their contents will be kept in the manual but wanted to double check on here to see if anyone has done this before really!

Exporting Pdf's for the Web, maintaining quality and keeping file size down

1) I don't have acrobat Pro yet.
I've been trying to export a small document 14 pages for email, and I can't get the file size down below 26 mgs even when I'm compromising images to an extremely poor quality. I have not had this problem with Cs3 previously. Not sure why the file size is so high. I don't want to have to down sample everything in other programs, would kind of defeat the purpose of proofing out the program in the first place. I'm wondering if the extra file size is related to metadata?

What preset are you using? How many images, and how large are they? how much vector art?
The first thing to do is to remove all unused swatches and styles from the document, then do a "save as" to remove the excess undo information, then try again.
And next time you should ask this type of question in the InDesign forum for your platform. This area is for discussing new features users would like to see. :)

Can I partition a hard drive and keep files on separate partition?

That is, can I partition a hard drive and have the system software on one drive, and everything else on the other? That is, have the system software on one drive, and on the other have pictures, music, documents, and all other files other than the system software? Thanks. David

Hi GK1951, and a warm welcome to the forums!
Great question, as a matter of fact it does... or would, but the Devil is in the Details as they say.
IME, OSX works best with 100+GB free disk space, so if that partition scheme cuts that down then you'll lose speed, but ony a few would notice the diff until you get down to 30 GB free space.
I can't say much, but my VM at the moment is 143.55 GB, I've been told that isn't a real number, but hey, it means something!
But there are so many factors affecting this that really, the only rule that seems to hold is Give OSX as much HD Free Space as you can & it'll be happy.
I imagine on the MacPro you could say use the outer Partition of several Disks... one for the OS, one for VM, one for APPs, etc. and gain the most!

Transfer Library to new computer itunes and keeping files on external HD

Ok, hopefully someone can help out here... I just purchased a new computer with Vista. On my other computer I have been pointing to and storing ALL my iTunes and music to an external hard drive. I would like to move that external hard drive to my new computer and continue to store all my music/library on the external hard drive. Any ideas on how to do this? I have read forums on transferring from and external onto the C drive but I would just like to keep it all stored on my external as always... Please help !
