Stop icons from appearing

Each and every time a file or document is opened with a program, an icon is placed on my display.
How do I stop this? Removing the icon seems to delete the file.

hello owenvb, please go to firefox > addons > extensions and remove Object Browser(which is likely malicious) and the yahoo toolbar if you suspect that it is injecting those icons...

• When I start Firefox a bar entitled "Know your rights" appears that contains information about Mozilla but I would like to stop it from appearing.

The "Know your rights" bar appears below the normal Firefox bars and I can get rid of it by clicking on the X at it's right end. I would like to stop this from appearing when I start Firefox but I don't know how to do it.

• Stop icon from re appearing on desktop

Anyone know how to stop the Firefox icon from reappearing on my desktop? Every time I delete it, it comes back. I try to keep everything in my taskbar. Thanks!

Very odd. Right-click on the Firefox icon on your desktop and check the properties for any clues, such as General info, the file details and Shortcut target, then post back.
You could also download a fresh new copy of the Firefox installer file "Firefox Setup 10.0.2.exe" from http://www.mozilla.org/firefox/new and save it to your desktop. Next, uninstall Firefox from the Windows Control Panel Add or Remove Programs list, to see if that gets rid of the Firefox icon. (When you uninstall Firefox, it will not remove your bookmarks or other user data and settings as long as you don't check that option.) Ref: Uninstalling Firefox
You can then reinstall Firefox by running the setup file you downloaded. Ref: Installing Firefox on Windows

• Extra tab appears on home page saying ant download successful. Cannot stop it from appearing. Pop-up says firefox update available, cannot disable. Will not keep changes about disable upgrades.

When I open mozilla firefox, an extra tab appears that says ant upgrade download successful. I had set that do not accept upgrades. It upgraded and I cannot eliminate the tab from appearing on my homepage. I always have problems when I take a Mozilla update so I tried to disable. I keep getting a pop-up telling me one is available and I should take it. I am trying to not change my service.

• Stopping printer icon from appearing in the dock

Hi,
We have a problem where our students (network homes, managed by WGM) are clicking on the printer icon in the dock once they have sent a job to print, and are pressing the 'Stop Jobs' icon, thus holding up the queue for other students to print.
Is there a way to stop the icon appearing in the dock?
Thanks,
Jonathan

Are you using
a dedicated print server ?
a print server as part of the server OS ?
or simple printer sharing, maybe Apple Printer Sharing, or Bonjour, or CUPS or another ?
Simple Printer Sharing, or a network printer without dedicated print server software is always going to allow users to stop printing, even if it holds up others.
Even with dedicated print server, you may want to allow users to stop prints - holding up the printer - if they need to change paper, ie. pre-printed stationery, acetate or different paper weights instead of blank 80g/sq m paper.
But a dedicated print server may allow you to restrict job access to only deleting the print job.

• Stop iTunes desktop icon from appearing after update

Any way to configure this behaviour?
I like an uncluttered desktop and have the shortcuts where I like them to be.  On every update however, the iTunes desktop icon appears on my desktop, and it's one of those little things that is really annoying.
Thanks,

Hi
This icon is created as part of the installer, as Wally said, there is no way to stop this.
It's not too difficult to delete the icon anyway

• Stop a new icon from appearing

the new update Ver9.0.1 now adds another FF icon to the taskbar when you click to open..how do you stop

This can be caused by a bad add-on or other malware. Here's my suggested procedure for tracking down and cleaning out bad add-ons. Sorry for the length -- it's not as bad as it looks:
(1) Open the Windows Control Panel, Uninstall a Program. After the list loads, click the "Installed on" column heading to group the infections, I mean, additions, by date. This can help in smoking out undisclosed bundle items that snuck in with some software you agreed to install. Take out as much trash as possible here.
(2) Open Firefox's Add-ons page using either:
* Ctrl+Shift+a
* "3-bar" menu button (or Tools menu) > Add-ons
In the left column, click Plugins. Set nonessential and unrecognized plugins to "Never Activate".
In the left column, click Extensions. Then, if in doubt, disable (or Remove, if possible) unrecognized and unwanted extensions.
Often a link will appear above at least one disabled extension to restart Firefox. You can complete your work on the tab and click one of the links as the last step.
Any improvement?
(3) You can search for remaining issues with the scanning/cleaning tools listed in our support article: Troubleshoot Firefox issues caused by malware. These on-demand scanners are free and take considerable time to run. If they finish quickly and especially if they require payment, you may have a serious infection. I suggest the specialized forums listed in the article in that case.

• What is this bar, and how do I stop it from appearing?

http://puu.sh/cEmpa/f84d031edd.jpg
Not only is it annoying, but it also re-sizes my Windows.
Please tell me I can turn this off...

NB
All of the visible elements are from the game except for the bar with the 3 dots which is the snap bar.  If you make the game full frame it will dis appear, otherwise you are stuck with it.

Overall, I like PS CC 2014. However, the most annoying thing is the popup window that appears EVERY time I start the program. It's the one with "Create", etc at the top and links to a bunch of videos. How do I make it so I no longer have to see it any more?

Scroll to the bottom of the Welcome screen. There you can tick 'Don't show ...'

• How do I stop a   from appearing on caller id on my iPhone 6?

A + appears as part of the caller id phone number on most incoming calls.  How can I disable that feature. It causes contacts not to br recognized.

I just got to it in about three seconds.  As noted in the link I provided, I logged in as Account Owner.  In the 'I Want To" box on the left-hand side, I typed 'share' and before I could type 'name ID', the box populated with several choices in blue below the box, including Share Name ID.  I clicked on the blue Share Name ID; at the top of the page you choose the line you want to change and then make the necessary changes; click Submit at the bottom.

• Recently I started getting many popups and would like to stop them from appearing.

When reading pages that require me to click something in order to proceed I have been getting many annoying popups. How do I eliminate all these popups?

hello, please try to reset firefox and see if this can address the issue...
in addition go to the windows control panel / programs and remove all toolbars or potentially unwanted software from there and run a full scan of your system with the security software that you have in place and different other tools like the free version of malwarebytes & adwcleaner.

• How do I stop the annoying little box from appearing?

Adobe Flash Player is requesting permission to store information on my computer.  It appears in a square on my screen at will.  It shows two choices which include:   ALLOW   or    DENY   (In either case, it is requesting viewing my information)
It does not accept DENY!  I can not get this box off the screen, which interferes with work, while I am speaking with a customer, and not able to continue typing.  How do I release this box, or stop it from appearing.  I don't want to give permission to spy.  I work with the public, their information is personal.  Even when doing my own creative work, I don't want to give permission to spy.
Please tell me what I can do.
I work with yahoo, and firefox.
I am not techy, and am not sure how to do this request.  I also don't understand what a tag is, or a thread on a forum.
Thank you for your anticipated cooperation.

Applications that run in Adobe Flash Player may want to store some information on your computer, but the amount they can store is limited to 100 kilobytes unless you agree to allocate additional space. Local storage settings let you specify how much disk space, if any, applications from a particular website can use to store information on your computer. Note that it is the person or company that has created the application you are using that is requesting such access, not Adobe (unless Adobe has created the application that wants to save the information). In the dialog box shown above, [website] represents the name of the person or company requesting access. It is the responsibility of the person or company requesting access to make it clear to you why they want access and how they plan to use the information they save. You should be aware of the privacy policy of anyone who is requesting access to your computer. For example, see Adobe's privacy policy. Contact the website requesting access for information on their privacy policy.
It's important to understand that even though this settings panel is part of Flash Player, the information will be used by an application created by a third party. Adobe assumes no responsibility for third-party privacy policies, actions of third-party companies in storing information on your computer, or such companies' use of such data or information.
What kind of data can an application that runs in Flash Player store on my computer?
The kind of information stored depends on the application. Information can be anything from your user name to your current score in an interactive game to a list of stocks in your portfolio. The application should make it clear what kind of information it wants to store.
Who has access to the information?
This information may be accessed by an application that is currently running in Flash Player or by another application that runs in Flash Player on the same website. Adobe does not have access to this information (unless Adobe has created the application that wants to save the information).
As discussed in What are local storage settings? above, it is the responsibility of the website requesting access to make it clear to you why they want access and how they plan to use the information. For example, will it be available only to you, or will it be posted in a public place? Who will have access to it in the future? Will it be deleted after a certain period of time? The privacy policy of anyone who is requesting access should address these sorts of issues.
I've already set privacy and disk space options in my browser. How do these settings interact with my Flash Player settings?
You may be aware that some websites work together with your browser to store small amounts of data, called cookies, on your computer for their own use in the future. For example, when you go to a website regularly, it may welcome you by name; your name is probably stored in a cookie, and you can use browser options to determine whether you want cookies or not. You may also have specified in your browser that pages you visit can take up only a certain amount of disk space.
When SWF or FLV content is being played, the settings you select for Flash Player are used in place of options you may have set in your browser. That is, even if you have specified in your browser settings that you do not want cookies placed on your computer, you may be asked if an application that runs in Flash Player can store information. This happens because the information stored by Flash Player is not the same as a cookie; it is used only by the application that runs in Flash Player, and has no relation to any other Internet privacy or security settings you may have set in your browser.
Similarly, the amount of disk space you let the  application that runs in Flash Player use has no relation to the amount of disk space you have allotted for stored pages in your browser. That is, when SWF or FLV content is being played, the amount of disk space you allow here is in addition to any space your browser is using for stored pages.
No matter how you may have configured your browser, you still have the option to allow or deny an application that runs in Flash Player permission to store the information, and to specify how much disk space the stored information can occupy, as discussed in the rest of this document.
What are my local storage options?
If you don't want to let applications from this website save any information on your computer, and you don't want to be asked again, select Never. Note that applications from other websites may later ask to store information on your computer. If you don't want applications from any website that you haven't yet visited to store information on your computer, and you don't want to be asked again, use the Global Storage Settings panel.
If you want to let applications from this website save information on your computer, but you want to decide on a case-by-case basis for each application, move the slider to the far left (None). Each time an application from this website wants to save information on your computer, you will see a question asking for more disk space.
If you want to let applications from this website save as much information on your computer as they need to, move the slider to the far right (Unlimited).
If you want to let applications from this website save information on your computer, but want to limit the amount of disk space they can use, move the slider to select 10 KB, 100 KB, 1 MB, or 10 MB. If an application needs more space than you have allotted, you will see a question asking for more disk space while the application is running.
If an application from this website has already saved some information on your computer and you select a value that is lower than the amount of information already stored, Flash Player informs you that any information that has already been saved will be deleted.
If you don't want existing information to be deleted, click Cancel to return to the Local Storage Settings panel, and then select a higher value. Otherwise, click OK to delete the information and return to the application.
How can I change my local storage settings?
You may want to change your local storage settings if, for example, you want to allot more space for information from this website. To display the Local Storage Settings panel:
Right-click (Windows) or Control-click (Macintosh) the application image while it is running.
From the context menu, select Settings, and then click the Local Storage tab.

• How can I stop Air Software from appearing on my screen?

Every time my computer starts back up, a small window appears in the lower right of my screen from Air Software. It's telling me I need to download to clean up my PC. I checked and found that I really don't want to download anything from this site. But, how can I stop it from appearing?

If we assume it's some kind of malware, I suggest the following:
(1) Open the Windows Control Panel, Uninstall a Program. After the list loads, click the "Installed on" column heading to group the infections, I mean, additions, by date. This can help in smoking out undisclosed bundle items that snuck in with some software you agreed to install. Take out as much trash as possible here.
(2) Supplement your regular security software by running the scanning/cleaning tools listed in this support article: Troubleshoot Firefox issues caused by malware. These are free, and take time to run. If they seem to finish quickly and requiring payment, you may have a serious infection.
