Stop iOS devices from suggesting an old email address

How do I stop my iOS devices from suggesting an email address that was previously used?  If I select an email address for, e.g. "John Doe" who may have several email addresses, only "John Doe" appears in the To field.  If I have long ago deleted an old email address for John Doe in my Contact records, the old email address will still be suggested.
It would also be nice to see the full name followed by the email address in the To field, e.g John Doe <[email protected]>.  This is how the addressee is displayed in Apple Mail. Also in Apple Mail you can find a previous recipient list at Windows>Previous Recipients, and delete any.

If the person is still listed as a contact in your contacts app, this will not appear. You have to delete the contact from the contacts app.
I am making an assumption here. Even if you deleted the old email address associated with that contact, the old suggested address may still appear as long as the person is still in your contacts app. You would have to delete the contact and enter it again.
Bear in mind, I am making assumption on how I believe that it works. I do know that if the email address is not in your contacts, you can delete it via the method I explained above.

That seems a really obvious answer but I didn't think of it.

  • Is there a way for me to stop the iPad from automatically storing an email address I send mail to that is not in my contacts?

The iPad seems to automatically store email addresses for ease of use. But what if there are ever email addresses for privacy reasons that I do not want the device to remember? Can I stop the device from storing addresses that I do not specifically or manually store in my contacts list?

    No. Sorry.

  • How can I stop my iPhone from texting to an email address instead of a phone number? It is not an iMessage account.

My phone will select an email (not an iMessage account) to send a text to instead of sending it to the phone number.  At times it lets me select one of the two but often does not. Especially in group messages.  Any suggestions? It is getting really annoying.

I agree that it is a hardware issue and I would have replaced, but losing service was something I just delt with over the years, but now with iOS 8, its becoming a problem. Plus with the release of the iPhone 6...
I just thought I missed a software setting that would block activating on Cellular Data or something similar to that.

  • Our old email address is still showing and it will not let us correct this on any of our devices. We are locked out and cycle through icloud requests.

We got a new email address, and it appears that we successfully changed/updated our itunes/icloud account. When we work from our PC everything looks changed, and is obviously reading from our devices. However, all of our devices still show our old email address as the itunes store/icloud account and none of our devices will let us change this. It keeps asking us to sign in with our old Apple ID, but it won't let us sign in. We've tried multiple passwords and have tried to reset it, but that is not working either. Now, its cycling and keeps popping up...won't let us get to any other screen unless we shut off.
I read the support questions and it said to make sure "find my phone" is shut down, but we can't even do that without a password. Very frustrating. Can anyone help?

To change the iCloud ID you have to go to Settings>iCloud, tap Delete Account, provide the password for the old ID when prompted to turn off Find My iDevice, then sign back in with the ID you wish to use.  When you do this you may find that the password for your old ID isn't accepted.  If this should happen, and if your old ID is an earlier version of your current ID, you need to temporarily recreate your old ID by going to https://appleid.apple.com, click Manage my Apple ID and sign in with your current iCloud ID.  Click edit next to the primary email account, change it back to your old email address and save the change.  Then edit the name of the account to change it back to your old email address.  You can now use your current password to turn off Find My iDevice on your device, even though it prompts you for the password for your old account ID. Then save any photo stream photos that you wish to keep to your camera roll.  When finished go to Settings>iCloud, tap Delete Account and choose Delete from My iDevice when prompted (your iCloud data will still be in iCloud).  Next, go back to https://appleid.apple.com and change your primary email address and iCloud ID name back to the way it was.  Now you can go to Settings>iCloud and sign in with your current iCloud ID and password.

  • Stop IOS devices pulling in read emails again.

HI there, not the best title question 'll grant you!
IS there anyway, short if delete from server, of stopping IOS devices pulling through emails that have been read neither the desktop Mac or other IOS devices?
I Have a paid Hotmail (Outlook) account that I've had for, probably, 20 years or more and really don't want to have to change my email address.  I have all my emails going back to whenever (that I want saved) on the server so not sure how I can stop the problem.
It can amount to very many emails, typically, coming through onto the iPad that I've already read on my iPhone or iMac so to tidy up I have to spend ages going through and manually 'deleting' them from the iPad.  It's not unknow for. Those same emails to then be pulled in again.
Thanks for any tips, fixes or work rounds

Although I would like to continue pulling mail when I choose this question is important to me as well.

To change the iCloud ID you have to go to Settings>iCloud, tap Delete Account, provide the password for the old ID when prompted to turn off Find My iPhone (if you're using iOS 7), then sign back in with the ID you wish to use.  If you don't know the password for your old ID, or if it isn't accepted, go to https//appleid.apple.com, click Manage my Apple ID and sign in with your current iCloud ID.  Tap edit next to the primary email account, tap Edit, change it back to your old email address and save the change.  Then edit the name of the account to change it back to your old email address.  You can now use your current password to turn off Find My iPhone on your device, even though it prompts you for the password for your old account ID. If you mean that Find My Phone is asking for a password to a different Apple ID to your current Apple ID.
This feature has been introduced to make stolen phones useless to those that have stolen them.
However it can also arise when the user has changed their Apple ID details with Apple and not made the same changes to their iCloud account/Find My Phone on their device before upgrading to iOS 7, or if you restore from a previous back up made before you changed your details.
The only solution is to change your Apple ID back to its previous state with Apple at My Apple ID using your current password, you don’t need access to this address if it’s previously been used with your Apple ID, once you have saved these details enter the password as requested on your device and then turn off "find my phone" and delete the account from your device.
You should then change your Apple ID back to its current state, save it once again and then log back in using your current Apple ID. Finally, turn "find my phone" back on once again.

  • TS4036 Accessing iCloud account from old email address that's no longer active

HELP!  My iPhone 5 screen died and Apple cannot repair it.  The phone still works and it is under warranty but I am having difficulty getting my calendar, notes and contact info.  I was able to download the pictures on to my PC at home using iTunes but not the data. When I go to iCloud I get a message telling me to go to a message sent to the original email account used when I purchased my first apple product (laptop) but I no longer have access to that email account.  I have set up other iCloud accounts since then but seem to going in circles trying to find this very important data.  Before I return the damaged phone for replacement I want to make sure I have exhausted every resource.  Does anyone have any suggestions?
    Thanks!

Note: this will only work if the old ID is yours, and if your new ID was created by editing the details of this old ID (rather than being an entirely new ID).

  • How can I delete an old email address from autofill?

I have an old, (email address that is not in my address book) that is constantly showing up in my autofill when I want to send an email and it is driving me nuts.  I've tried restoring my phone; clearing prevous receipents list.  Can anyone please help??????

The only way to erase this data is to restore your phone as a new device in iTunes, NOT from backup. All data on your phone will be erased, including these email addresses. Follow this by syncing your iTunes content & other data back to your phone. You have to decide if it's worth going through this or just living with it.

  • How to remove the old email address that was hacked from my iCloud account when iCloud won't let me?

How to remove the old email address that was hacked from my iCloud account when iCloud won't let me?
Pretty much the the email that I used (but didn't verify) to create my iCloud account was hacked and now I can't remove it from my iCloud account due to the iCloud password also being changed by the same person and the fact I had "Find my iPhone" app on my phone also??? I had to change my iTunes email as well but that was far easier so yeah :S.
Please help. I live in NZ, out in the country, so reception is rare and so is getting into the nearest town that has an Apple Store.
    Thanks

If you truly change your existing Apple ID's email address to a new email address, follow these instructions: iOS 7: If you're asked for the password to your previous Apple ID when signing out of iCloud
If you created a whole new Apple Account because you couldn't access the old one after being hacked, you will need to contact the Apple Account Security Team. Apple ID: Contacting Apple for help with Apple ID account security

  • Why has my iCloud id become my old email address from years ago. My apple id is my current one. How can I change my icloud one so it is the same?

My mum's iCloud username is coming up as her old email address frok years ago. She can't sign in as can't remember the password for it And has no access to the email address. I updated successfully her iTunes/Apple id years ago & is still up and running. How do I get rid of this iCloud id and make it her recent email. I'm confused why this has happened in the 1st place

With iOS 7 you will have to provide the password for the old ID in order to delete the existing account from your iPad.  If you can't do this, contact Apple for assistance by going to https://expresslane.apple.com, then click More Produces & Services>Apple ID>iTunes Store, App Store or Mac App Store>Disabled Apple ID.
As far as your missing contacts, when you get the password for the old ID reset, sign in with the ID and your new password at icloud.com and check to see if your contacts are there.  If they are, export them as a vCard as explained here: http://support.apple.com/kb/PH3606.  You can then import this vCard to your new account as explained here: http://support.apple.com/kb/PH3605.
