Stop iphoto from automatically importing pictures

How do I stop iphoto from automatically opening up and attempting to import pictures when I plug in a Compact Flash card?
I shoot for business and for pleasure - I manage business photography differently and not by iphoto. Please tell me how to stop runaway iphoto.
Thanks

  • How do i stop iPhoto from automatically opening when I connect my iPhone?

Hi, well as the title states:
How do i stop iPhoto from automatically opening when I connect my iPhone?
    It's getting on my nerves...
    Thanks.

    This might also be helpful:
I wrote an AppleScript that asks me each time I connect the iPhone/camera/etc whether or not I want to open iPhoto. Usually I just hit return and it doesn't open, but once in a while I'll click Yes to open iPhoto and import videos from my phone. I just did it because it's nice to have a little reminder so I don't go for too too long without importing, but not have it slow things down each time I plug in.
Below is the script. Paste it into AppleScript Editor, then export it as an application. Then set Image Capture to open this app when you plug in your phone. Would love to hear if it's helpful for you or if you modify it to use other criteria to automatically import only at certain times or conditions.

  • Can I stop iPhoto from automatically mounting the iPhone, When iPhoto open?

I use other software to grab my photos, and I use the import option to put my pictures into iPhoto. I also like to keep a lot of photos on my iPhone and whilst browsing my iPhoto library (it's always opened at startup) sometimes I want to charge the iPhone, or sync iTunes etc - it takes me away from my library I was half way through arranging and then I have to wait whilst it shows me the photos again. I can right click and unmount, but later on it comes back - I have to exit or unplug. Both of which I don't want to do. I don't want it to appear in iPhoto under devices unless I say so. It's an unwanted hassle.
Apart from that, I am happy with it!

open iPhoto (or image capture) and the preferences set action when camera is connected to do nothing (or to open your selected program) to stop iPhoto from being launched when you connect your iPhone

  • How to stop iPhoto from automatically launching?

I'm not sure if this is specific to any version of iPhoto or not.
But anyway, when I insert a compact flash card into a USB card reader attached to an iMac, iPhoto automatically launches. How do I turn this functionality off?
    Thanks

TIP: For insurance against the iPhoto database corruption that many users have experienced I recommend making a backup copy of the Library6.iPhoto (iPhoto.Library for iPhoto 5 and earlier versions) database file and keep it current. If problems crop up where iPhoto suddenly can't see any photos or thinks there are no photos in the library, replacing the working Library6.iPhoto file with the backup will often get the library back. By keeping it current I mean backup after each import and/or any serious editing or work on books, slideshows, calendars, cards, etc. That insures that if a problem pops up and you do need to replace the database file, you'll retain all those efforts. It doesn't take long to make the backup and it's good insurance.
NOTE: this is not the same as routinely backing up your entire iPhoto library folder to protect your photos. It only protects the loss of your organizational efforts that the database file contains.
I've created an Automator workflow application (requires Tiger or later), iPhoto dB File Backup, that will copy the selected Library6.iPhoto file from your iPhoto Library folder to the Pictures folder, replacing any previous version of it. There are versions that are compatible with iPhoto 5, 6, 7 and 8 libraries and Tiger and Leopard. Just put the application in the Dock and click on it whenever you want to backup the dB file. iPhoto does not have to be closed to run the application, just idle. You can download it at Toad's Cellar. Be sure to read the Read Me pdf file.
NOTE: The new rebuild option in iPhoto 09 (v. 8.0.2), Rebuild the iPhoto Library Database from automatic backup" makes this tip obsolete.

  • How do i stop itunes from automatically importing playlists

Hate the new 10.4.0.80 version of iTunes.  I keep an M3u playlist for each of my 1000's of albums.  Recent version is the first version that imports all these playlists when i "add a folder".  Then you have no way of managing all these new playlists that automatically get added.  Yes I can delete them or move them to a folder - but I have to select each list one at a time to do that and I dont have the patience to do this over a thousand times.  And then if i add the folder again, because itunes doesn't automatically add new music - all the playlists come back like a bad rash
Reason enough for me to abandon iTunes, which means I don't really need an iPhone and iPad instead of an Andriod.
Horrible experience.  How do I turn off this feature or otherwise stop iTunes from doing this?

  • How do I stop iTunes from automatically importing the songs I download?

I usually end up deleting a bunch of songs, but iTunes is automatically importing/adding the songs I download which then creates a lot of missing file links. How do I stop iTunes from doing that, I just want to be able to add them manually by folders.

    I'm having a similar problem.
When I download songs via my MobileMe "iDisk" webpage, it will automatically end up in iTunes and starts playing. I set up my iDisk settings to place my downloads on my desktop, which it does, just fine.
Nonetheless iTunes ALWAYS wanting to be part of it, is really annoying.
I just DON'T want iTunes to start up, just because a download finished. I add songs manually myself when I want it.
    Any advise ?? Thanks

  • How do I stop iTunes from automatically importing songs not from a CD?

    Hey,
I downloaded a few songs from my e-mail that I received from a band and as soon as it finished, it automatically imported it to iTunes. I didn't want it to do that and it did it with every track. How do I stop it from doing that?

  • How do I stop iPhoto from automatically deleting photos from my camera after import?

I'm using iPhoto 11 version 9.2.3 and importing photos from a Panasonic Lumix DMC-FS35 via USB.
From what I can gather, iPhoto should prompt me after an import as to whether I want to delete the imported photos from the camera or not.
Instead, I get no option at all and iPhoto goes right ahead and deletes the imported photos. This is a problem as the camera is shared and used across a few Macs.
I can't find any options anywhere in iPhoto to prevent this behaviour. I've made sure that iPhoto is launched with the camera (I thought this might be the problem initially), but to no avail.
    Can anyone please help?

    Thanks Tom,
I fear that either I'm stupid or blind because I don't see that option in the Advanced pane either.  Here's what I have in Advanced:
    Enable this account
Include when automatically checking for new messages
Compact mailboxes automatically (this is greyed out)
Keep copies of messages for offline viewing (then a pull down menu):
All messages and their attachments (currently this is selected)
         All messages, but omit attachments
         Only messages that I've read
Don't keep copies of any messages
Check with your system administrator before changing any of the advanced options below:
         IMAP Path Prefix:
         Port:
         Authentication:
Use IDLE command if the server supports it (this is greyed out)
I see the option you're talking about on my older computer that's running Leopard, but not on the new one running Lion.
    Cheers,
    Bonnie

  • How can I stop iPhoto from automatically launching when iPads are connected to my MacBook Pro?

  • How can I stop itunes from automatically importing on its startup?

Ive looked around a few forums and have yet to find anything to help me with this particular problem.
    THE BACKSTORY:
Got a MacbookPro a few months ago. iOS Lion. Ive been mostly focused on becoming familiar with how to get around on it since Ive always been a windows guy. Anyway in that time I never imported my music from my old laptop. Until the other day. It took several hours to copy, about a days time, 120+GB of music from my old laptop to my new one, my MacbookPro. Everything copied over just fine, I knew it would take a while and was more than patient with the process.Once everything was finished copying over I went to Import my newly saved music files. I knew it would be another long and grueling process but once again I was prepared to endure the waiting game. However I believe it was much more then laptop, or at least itunes could handle. It immediately stared freezing up, which is obviously a side-effect of the massive amount of data I was moving. So I figured I would try importing each CD one at a time.
    THE PROBLEM:
Itunes seems to be in a start of gluttony. Now matter how many times Ive "force-quitted" the application, whenever I reopen it it continues to resume attempting to import everything all at once. It freezes so badly that I am unable to attemp a cancelation of the import, or at least try to attempt one.
    WHAT IVE TRIED:
    *force-quitting and reopening
*uninstalling and reinstalling (which to be honest Im not 100% sure I did 100% correctly)
*I gave it about 2 1/2 days to finish working through things on its own, went to work etc.etc. hoping  that It just needed a WHOLE lot of time to get through      everything by itself. no progress was made
*restarting the computer as a hole.... on several occasions.
    THE REAL QUESTION:
Everything short of reinstalling LION, what are my options to fix this? Im more than okay with importing every single thing one-at-a-time, but like I said before I can no longer open iTunes without it trying to pick up importing where it left off. What are my options and what do I need to do to get there?
I realize this was a very long-winded question, but I would greatly appreciate any and all help.
    Thanks for your time

erict, you blew me away with that suggestion! It was something so simple I couldnt believe I hadnt thought of it! But in the end it didn't work, which I was really surprised about. On Windows anytime anything was moved itunes was hoplessly lost, but on this mac it still kept up with everything. I tried renaming folders, moving folders, and even renaming moved folders but it still kept trying to import.
I even went as far as deleting EVERYTHING i had moved to the Mac, which didnt really work. It still kept trying to import what wasnt there which made it continue to freeze up. However, after doing this it, the freezing was not nearly as bad. It gave me enough of a break to cancel it through the itunes dialog box at the top of the app. So in the end, thats all I really needed to do, only before I had deleted everything the freezing would not allow me to do it.
So now Im reimporting everything again, only slowly, and only a few Artists at a time.

  • How to stop iphoto from automatically starting when it detects photos?

I keep photos on my flash drive but don't want iphoto to start up and want to import them everytime I plug in the flash drive. I can't find the setting anywhere...did I just miss it?

It would be best to ask in the iPhoto 6 forum - http://discussions.apple.com/forum.jspa?forumID=1116 - it is very confusing to have questions (and answers) about different versions in the iPhoto '08 forum

  • How can I stop iPhoto from autosizing my pictures when I create a Book?

...I'm trying to create a Book in iPhoto and it keeps upsizing the pictures and cutting them off - cannot make them smaller to fit in all content

Probably the theme you are using does not support tit - try a different theme - as I said originally
Pre Crop to 4:3 (the frame ratio for books) or in most themes right click on the placed photo and select fit to frame to use background color film rather than cropping

  • How do I stop iPhoto from synching w/ iPhone?

Every time I plug in my iPhone into my Mac iPhoto launches and wants to d/l the same pictures I've already d/l'd. Is there any way to stop iPhoto from automatically launching when I plug in my iPhone, but continue to launch when I plug in my regular camera?

You can't have it both ways since iPhoto detects the iPhone as being a digital camera when connected if photos are available that were taken by the iPhone - regardless if previously imported into iPhoto.
You can disable iPhone automatically launching when any digital camera is connected which is my preference anyway - not a big deal for me to click on iPhoto in the Dock after connecting my digital camera or iPhone.
The same for me with iTunes when connecting my iPod or iPhone since I'm not always ready at that time for iTunes to launch automatically and prefer manually launching the app.
I import photos taken by the iPhone into iPhoto and then have iPhoto automatically delete those photos after the import. Since I may not want all photos taken by the iPhone remaining, I transfer select photos to photo albums and then sync or transfer those photos back to the iPhone.

  • How to stop iPhoto launch when saving pictures in Safari?

How do I stop iPhoto from automatically launching or coming to the front of the screen every time I want to save a picture I find using Safari?  It's incredibly annoying that each time I click to save one, iPhoto just jumps right into my face.
    Thanks!

    Hi Neil -
Thanks for getting back so quickly.  Unfortunately this didn't do the trick.
Perhaps I should have been more specific: I'm "adding the photos" to my library.  Each time I do this iPhoto launches.
    Thanks!
