Stop iPhoto starting up!

This is probably a fairly simple thing to do, but for some reason I can't get my head around it...
Is there a way to connect my iPhone to my mac without iPhoto starting up automatically? I do want iTunes to start, as this is set up to sync calendars, music, contacts, apps etc automatically, but I specifically set up photos not to sync at all, so don't need iPhoto to start!
It gets annoying when you have already imported photos from the iPhone into iPhoto, but because the photos are still on the phone it thinks you always want to import... help me!
Thanks

In iPhoto > iPhoto menu > Preferences > General tab, set the 'Connecting camera opens:' pop-up to No Application. (Note: if you're using a version of iPhoto +prior to+ iLife '08, this setting is in Applications > Image Capture's preferences, instead of iPhoto.)
Note that this will apply to all cameras/memory cards - there's no way to make it specific to the iPhone.
Also note that if your Camera Roll is empty, iPhoto will not open. You can transfer any pics to iPhoto, delete from the phone at the end of the transfer, then re-sync them to the phone so they're in the iPhone's photo library not the Camera Roll. That's safer for the photos, and means that unless you've taken new pics, iPhoto won't open.

  • How do I stop iphoto opening on start up of mac? (not when adding a device etc)

How do I stop iPhoto opening whenever I start up my mac? (not when adding a device etc) There are lots of answers for stopping it auto-opening when attaching a camera, iPod/Pad and I have 'no application' selected for those, I just cant pin-point how to change the basic start-up/loading setting. Thanks :-)

In iPhoto go to the General preference pane and set No Application as the option when a camera is connected
If that doesn't do the trick connect your device to the Mac and launch Image Capture.  In the lower left hand corner select No Application again:

  • How can I stop iPhoto from opening everytime...

    OMG this is maddening.
    I am a photograher.
I shoot tethered to a MBP in lightroom through a Canon 5D Mark III; I recently upgraded to YOSEMITE.
Every lovingtime I plug the camera in to the MBP, IPHOTO starts, reads the contents of my 16GB card which of course takes time, during a photoshoot, and then want to import 500+ images- I of course cancel or close the window down. But in the event I have to reconnect the camera or restart something- I get the annoying  IPHOTO program doing the same ^&$&^% again.....it does it on my MAC MINI in my office when I bring the images home for editing...
The fact that the iphoto window is buried under another window and I can't &^%&^*$  figure out what is holding up my work flow while still looking composed in front of clients is MADDENING.
THIS IS CRAZY,,, How can I stop it

There are two places you can set iPhoto to not open when a camera is connected:
    1 - iPhoto's General preference pane:
2 - (if iPhoto continues to open after #1) - with the camera connected to your Mac launch Image Capture and in the lower left hand corner of the widow set No Application in the dropdown menu provided:

  • IPhoto starts every time we boot our MBP

iPhoto starts up every time we boot our MBP from a full shutdown. How do we make it stop?
    Thanks!

Since you are learning, when you right-click or ctrl-click on a dock icon, you will get a contextual menu. One of the Items is to have the program start at login. You may have accidentally done this with iPhoto which may explain how it got into the login items.

  • IPhoto starts automatically with computer startup

I recently installed a new hard drive in my MacBook Pro. After the install, now every time I start the computer, iPhoto starts automatically. Is there a setting that I can change to stop this. It's not a big problem, just a little annoying.

try right clicking on the iPhoto icon in the dock and making sure that the option to "Open at login" is not set

I usually find it's much easier to just use Photoshop to edit my pictures... iPhoto is slow as molasses in January.

The same way one starts it -- Launch Image Capture, open the application's Preferences (from the Image Capture menu) and change the settings associated with connecting your camera.

  • How do I stop iPhoto from repeatedly closing Event title boxes when I am in the middle of entering a title?

How do I stop iPhoto from repeatedly closing Event title boxes when I am in the middle of entering a title?
This problem started several months ago. I have tried typing more slowly and typing faster; neither help.
It now takes me about four attempts to complete a title of about twelve characters, achieving about three characters on each attempt.
    I am running iPhoto 9.4.3 on OS X 10.8.3 on a 2.93 GHz Intel Quad-Core i7 iMac with 12 GB of DDR3 memory.

    As a Test:
Hold down the option (or alt) key and launch iPhoto. From the resulting menu select 'Create Library'
Import a few pics into this new, blank library. Is the Problem repeated there?

  • Upon connection, iPhoto starts, not iTunes

I cant even activate the iPhone to get started, and i have the most current version of iTunes.
Why would iPhoto start upon connection?

do you know how to turn off image capture on XP? Three programs, Windows fax viewer, cannon camera window, and Adobe album starter all fight to download the pics off my iphone....untill today when my computer stopped recognizing my iphone all together. I read the troubleshooting section of the users manual and have reset the phone, restarted my computer, reinstalled itunes. I don't have the energy to restore all settings, the phone works good, but there won't be any sync-ing going on until I get this fixed. Problems have been happening ever since I purchased the PRO edition of Quicktime to convert my slideshows for the iphone. That still doesn't work, they come out pixelated and have no sound. One full day of dinking with that and my 400GB external started having delayed write failures and then I fixed it once by running the chkdsk utility, so it ran all night recovered almost everything--then after 20 minutes it completely crashed. My son recovered the data for me on his computer. Now the iphone won't sync. Any ideas?? you seem like a knowlegable sourse of info? Thx if you have the time!

  • Music skips and stops and starts

Hello, we have just got a nano to replace a 3rd gen iPod.
I have around 50 gigs of music on a lacie USB drive, and the music plays flawlessly from here in iTunes.
However once imported into the nano, there is distortion, jumps and clicks in the music and sometimes the song will just stop and start from the beginning.
    Any ideas?

  • How do I stop iPhoto from updating

How do I stop iPhoto from updating itself every time I put a backed up iPhoto disc in to play? Now I quit or force quit iPhoto to stop it happening. Happens every time I install a CD or DVD disc. It cant possibly be necessary every time.

Chances are, that disc was created by an earlier version of iPhoto. iPhoto is trying to convert the library on the disc into an iPhoto 6 library, because the file structure is different in v6. The only fix I know is to copy the disc to your Mac, let iPhoto update your disc as an individual library, then burn a new disc that iPhoto 6 will like.

  • How can I stop iPhoto from reidentifying faces I have already 'crossed', while still being able to identify and sort new faces.

iPhoto has detected faces of people I dont know, in my 'iPhoto faces' whenever I click the cross in the corner of the face (when sorting faces) the face temporarily disappears, but once I have uploaded a fresh batch of photos (and want to identify new faces) it automatically re-identifies the old photos that I don't want to have to sort again. How can I stop iPhoto from reidentifying faces I have already 'crossed', while still being able to identify and sort new faces.

Thank you, that makes sense (I think!) However, I need to be able to tell iPhoto who the people identified in my photos are, does that make sense? How do I identify the people in my new photos without clicking 'find faces'. I know that button searches through my photos to find faces, but it also gets me to the place where I identify the faces as my friends and family, is there a shortcut to get to that place without clicking 'find faces'? That is what I really need, please help!!

  • Can I stop iPhoto from automatically mounting the iPhone, When iPhoto open?

I use other software to grab my photos, and I use the import option to put my pictures into iPhoto. I also like to keep a lot of photos on my iPhone and whilst browsing my iPhoto library (it's always opened at startup) sometimes I want to charge the iPhone, or sync iTunes etc - it takes me away from my library I was half way through arranging and then I have to wait whilst it shows me the photos again. I can right click and unmount, but later on it comes back - I have to exit or unplug. Both of which I don't want to do. I don't want it to appear in iPhoto under devices unless I say so. It's an unwanted hassle.
Apart from that, I am happy with it!

open iPhoto (or image capture) and the preferences set action when camera is connected to do nothing (or to open your selected program) to stop iPhoto from being launched when you connect your iPhone

  • How do i stop iPhoto from automatically opening when I connect my iPhone?

Hi, well as the title states:
How do i stop iPhoto from automatically opening when I connect my iPhone?
    It's getting on my nerves...
    Thanks.

    This might also be helpful:
I wrote an AppleScript that asks me each time I connect the iPhone/camera/etc whether or not I want to open iPhoto. Usually I just hit return and it doesn't open, but once in a while I'll click Yes to open iPhoto and import videos from my phone. I just did it because it's nice to have a little reminder so I don't go for too too long without importing, but not have it slow things down each time I plug in.
Below is the script. Paste it into AppleScript Editor, then export it as an application. Then set Image Capture to open this app when you plug in your phone. Would love to hear if it's helpful for you or if you modify it to use other criteria to automatically import only at certain times or conditions.
    Nathan
set question to display dialog "Open iPhoto to import photos?" buttons {"Yes", "No"} default button 2
set answer to button returned of question
if answer is equal to "Yes" then
              tell application "iPhoto" to activate
    end if
