Stop iWeb converting photos to PNG?

Hi everyone, quick question....I notice large photos on other websites (~4"x6" on the screen) that are like 126KB.
I download that .jpg (126KB) and put it on my iWeb site...iWeb changes it to a .png and it is now +600KB.
Is there a way to stop iWeb from converting .jpg's to large .png's?
Thanks so much!
I really appreciate you guys/gals out there!
Chris

When you add a photo to an iWeb page do not resize it.  Click on it, go to the Inpsector/Metrics pane and click on the Original Size button if it isn't grayed out.
If the image is too big then resize it outside of iWeb and add it back onto the page at the size you want.
Also go into iWeb's preferences and uncheck the the Image Import check box to optimize images on import:

  • Why is iWeb converting all my PNG file to JPG upon publishing

When I drag and drop a PNG image to iWeb, it shows up fine in iWeb, but once I publish it to either my site or to a folder, all the PNG images are converted to JPG with a very low quality....
Is there anything i can do to stop iWeb from changing my image file?
    THX
    I'm using the latest iWeb 09 3.0.1

I don't think you can. I ran a test on this demo page.. All images ended up as jpgs and at about the same file size.
The only files that do remain png are transparency files.

  • IWeb converts Text pages to PNG files

I build a page with many text.
I export my site... and when I see the result, it's a big PNG file !!!!
How can I solve this ?

I have this problem as well.
    Here's what I know...
    - Not all my text blocks are being converted to PNGs.
    - The text block that iWeb is converting to a PNG uses Arial, Arial bold, and Times italic
    - Arial version 2.60 (and any other version I've tried) DOES get rendered as a image.
    - When I get rid of the different styles of text within the same text box, it renders as text. (ie got rid of and italic fonts within a text box that also had plain or bold text) bold and regular(or plain) fonts seem to work fine together.
    - Because the content is no longer one image and is now html, the formatting/layout is not exactly as you see it in while working in iWeb. So I had to adjust a few things...
CONCLUSION: don't mix different styles of fonts - even the same fonts.
I hope Apple addresses this issue soon. It's a pain in my head.
Now to read about why my hit counter dissapears... and I might add it didn't used to disappear until I changed the text to render as text...
    until next time.

  • BUG Before/After Function stopped working after Convert Photo to DNG

    Hi,
I just converted all my photos to DNG using Lightroom's Convert Photo to DNG function and the Before/After " \ " function (in Develop module) is not working anymore... same problem in Lightroom 3.0
    regards,
    Danny

I processed a Nikon .nef raw file in Lightroom
.  Then I went to the Library Module under
Library and chose Convert to DNG.  After the conversion
the complete history was still available.  However, the Before/After function using \ or Before/After Views did not work.  It was necessary to click on the History State to compare views.  Using the Before/After Views, the original could be compared to the processed view by clicking on the Import state.
This will not be a problem if the files are converted to DNG during initial import.
I also recommend backing up originals and all processed files along with the Lightroom database on a least two drives on location and another off-site.

  • Enhancement Please! iWeb and Photo resizing

    Hey all
I take loads of photos @ 7Megapixels which results in large file sizes. Fantastic when I want to blow them up. But to drop publish them onto iWeb it copys the graphic/photo rather than asking if you wish to resize or lower the quailty. As we know the same image will look great with a much higher compression rate when viewed.
any views on this as I think it would be a great enhacement!
    Cheers
    Carl

In which templates and in what situations are you seeing this happen? I certainly don't experience the same thing. For example, I have four photo pages on a site on which I've been playing around with iWeb [link to the photo 'menu' page here: <http://web.mac.com/curlytool/iWeb/iWebTryout/Photos.html>].
Comparing file sizes between originals and published versions for one of these pages I see that the largest of my originals is 1.4 MB @ 1,464 x 1,054 pixels. This has been converted to PNG and reduced to 180 KB @ 700 x 120 for use in the page header, and (still as a JPG this time) to 156 KB @ 800 x 576 for display when its thumbnail is clicked and in the slideshow. This applies both when I publish to .Mac and to a local folder.
Resizing of this nature is standard in my experience with iWeb. With photo albums in particular, images are changed to a maximum height of 800 pixels to suit the requirements of the new slideshow. I have to say, however, that my experience is limited to the Modern template. Perhaps the situation is different with others.

  • Muse converting jpegs to .pngs, ballooning size

The photos in a Muse site I created recently were loading very slowly, so I uploaded the files into Dreamweaver to see what was happening. To my shock, here's what I found when I reviewed one of the photos:
    The original (linked photo): a 640 X 480 jpeg (66KB)
The working Muse file (desktop): I resized the photo to 420 X 315 in the layout
The (desktop site) file created by Muse and downloaded to the server: resized to 429 X 324 (larger than I resized it), turned into a .png (!), file size increased (even though resolution is much less), up to 134 KB vs. 66 KB for the original
The working Muse file (phone): I resized the photo to 351 X 263 in the layout
The (phone site) file created by Muse and downloaded to the server: resized to 360 X 272 (larger than I resized it), turned into a .png (!), file size increased (even though resolution is less by almost half), up to 112 KB vs. 66 KB for the original
So Muse is converting some (not all) of my jpeg photos to .png, resizing upward slightly from the size I indicated in the working Muse file, and and almost doubling the file size.
OK, I know best practice is to resize and optimize outside of Muse, but what good will this be if Muse resizes the results and turns small jpeg files into large png files? And even without resizing and optimizing outside of Muse, shouldn't Muse NOT change jpegs to png's and nearly double their file size from the size of the linked originals (which themselves are nearly twice the resolution, and therefore should themselves be larger than the file size of the files Muse produces, not less)?
Could someone from the Muse team explain this?
    Thanks.

    Hi Zak,
Thanks for your quick response. The site in question is http://www.nycjazz.com. The photo I described can be found by clicking on the "vocalists" link and locating the listing for "Brazilian Jazz Quartet" that appears towards the bottom of the page, just above the contact form. It is a photo with no transparencey, but with a drop shadow applied
Your response raises a few more questions:
    (1) If some browsers can acheive drop shadow effects using CSS and others can't, then shouldn't Muse render two sets of these photos—jpeg to be served for the modern CSS3-complient browsers, and .png to be served for the older non-CSS3 complient browsers, rather than one set of huge png's served to both, as seems to be the case?
    (2) If Muse has to create huge .pngs for both under these circumstances (at least as it may stand for now), is there a workaround designers can employ to trick it to do otherwise? Like, for example, grouping the photo with something else and applying a shadow, or putting a transparent box behind the photo and applying a shadow?
    (3) This behavior of Muse is inconsistent for some reason. For example, if you look at a photo just above, in the same "vocalists" section, for "vocal-piano trio," Muse created a .jpeg for the desktop version, and a .png for the phone version. Muse did do a decent job of opitmizing the jpeg in this case, without any effort from me, though; the linked original in this case is 640 X 480 and 46 KB, whereas the jpeg Muse created from this is 420 X 315 and 15 KB. What explains the inconsistency, though?
    (4) One thing I don't comprehend is the notion that you can optimize photos in advance of placing them in Muse. How can this make a difference, if Muse, either way, is going to automatically optimize them itself using it's own built-in algorhyrhms when outputting them?
If you could answer each of the these four point in turn, it would be very helpful.
    Thanks.

  • How to batch convert psd to png with layers

how to batch convert psd to png with layers
i want to convert lots of PSD files into PNGs WHILE RETAINING
    LAYERS!
simply batching and choosing custom setting flattens the
    thing.
    how do i do that!??
and i KNOW it can be done somehow - because i have some old
png's i KNOW come from the same psd source. ironic, isn't it?
besides - feature wish for adobe developers:
    A) batch conversion should include 300dpi to 72dpi and vise
    versa.
    B) batch conversion should include PSD to PNG and vice versa
    - including layers and transparency.
    C) RGB to CMYK option when converting from 72 dpi to 300dpi.
    D) batch exporting should include PNG32 which it doesnt now -
but somehow DOES include the outdated and stupid gif-format.
    E) i'd like the Actions feature of photoshop - makes batching
    complicated procedures easly.
    F) I'd like support for the brushes of photoshop
    G) Better selecting tools for details like hair and fine
    edges.
Important notes is that i as webdesigner often need to make
certain aspects of my clients graphics into print material. Also
that i use fireworks for picture editing.
Praise for the developers of fireworks
    A) the compression facility of JPGs is AWESOME!
    B) PNG as fileformat is likewise awesome - i end up using it
for almost all i do these days. Transparency and good file sizes. I
have used fireworks cs3 to convert all psd and tiff and ai files to
    PNG.
    C) the vectors and styles and method of selecting and editing
things in fireworks is FAR SUPERIOR to flash and photoshop!

  • Can I stop iWeb from putting a page name at the top?

I don't want page names across the top in iWeb. I have a list of hyperlinked icons on the side for that.
Can anyone tell me how to stop iWeb from putting the page name on the page?
    Thanks.

The script is for the text in the browser title bar.
The title is taken from the large textbox at the top of each webpage.
If that box is missing or empty, iWeb uses a next textbox for the title.
If that is missing too, the pagename is used for the title.
If you want the title in the titlebar but not the large textbox on your page, select the textbox, do Cm-T and drag the font-size slider to the bottom.
Then click the color next to the T-icon and drag that opacity slider to the left (0).
Then resize the textbox to it minimun size and drag it out of view. And don't forget you did.
But I think the OP means the navigation links at the top.

  • Convert photo to line art?

    Dear Forum,
I am trialing Elements and Illustrator but cannot find a solution in help or the forums, or any book at Borders, so I hope someone can help.  I am looking for a way to convert photos (JPEGS) of flowers to black line art......like a coloring book, not just black and white or grayscale or sylhouette. I will then print out the line art (1-2 pixel black line art) to clear acetate for use as a positive original for creating a silkscreen via photo emulsion exposure (and then silkscreen printing the line art to fabric for hand painting). I am doing this by hand now.....place a sheet of acetate over the photo and outlining "edges" by eye with a fine Sharpie, then using that as the positive original. See attached file for an example. The line art needs to be relatively detailed ( e.g. petals, stamen, leaves) but not absolutely perfect as I only need to print guide lines on fabric for subsequent hand painting. It seems easy to do by "eye", tracing edges of color or tone change, but I have not figured out how to make that happen in Elements or Illustrator. Of course I have only had the trial for a couple days, and have used live trace, posterization, etc, but have not been lucky. Please point me in the right direction. If I can make this happen with an Adobe product, then I will buy it.....I have hundreds of photos to convert. Thanks.....Bob

If you use Threshold, you can add some gaussian blur to the image to make the edges smoother. You can also add a brightness/contrast adjustment layer between the blurred image and the threshold layer to fine tune the edges.
If you have Windows, you might want to look at Medhi's Fine Threshold filter (freeware) found here:
    http://www.mehdiplugins.com/english/finethreshold.htm
Edit: You could also use Find Edges on the image first; desaturate it; then use a threshold adjustment layer. Go back to the Find Edges layer and add gaussian blur to taste. To further fine tune, slip a brightness/contrast layer between the blurred image and the threshold to control line thickness/detail. (FWIW, I would make a copy of the Find Edges layer and blur the duplicate so if you change your mind you don't have to start the project from scratch.)

  • Convert photos using the Tools Photoshop Imagine Processor (Photoshop CS 5)

All of a sudden, I am having issues when I attempt to convert photos using the Tools > Photoshop > Image Processor option in Adobe Bridge.  I used this methodology in the past and the conversion to JPG or TIFFs would fly with no interruption.  Now I am getting now getting getting dialog boxes with "New Snapshot" in the title,  I click OK, then get a message, "The command "Feather" is not currently available," I click "continue, and gert a "New Layer" dialog box, I click OK, and  get a "Fill" dialog box, I click OK and the JPG or Tiff is then generated.  This series then starts over on the next photo to generate.  I am using Photoshop CS5 on a MAC.  I did uninstall and re-install Photoshop l, but I am getting the same series on messages.  Any suggestions?  Thanks

It sounds like you have an action running when processing the photos
Look at the bottom of the image processor dialog and and see if Run Action is checked
