Stop M2V files from previewing in finder

Is there any way to stop M2V files from previewing in finder? It either always crashes the finder or it just sits there forever(especially if it is a long video) with the cursor spinning until it can preview it.
Also when I try to locate these type of files when DVD Studio cant find them, it crashes DVD studio.

column view is the way I prefer view Finder and that is where it shows a preview of the video in the last collumn to the right. I know that you can turn off this preview from showing on all collumns, but i find it so usefull for everything else.
I remember a couple of years back when it would'nt even try to preview the file it would just show an image maybe the first frame. this was back in the days of DVD Studio 1.0. I'm pretty sure that Quicktime wouldn't open the files either back then either. there needs to be a way to tell OS X not to preview certain file types.
I wouldn't care except it can take up to 15 to 20 min for OSx to preview the file and in that time you cant use the the finder at all. talk about losing your day. most of the time now it just crashed the finder.
I'm still using panther 10.39. is this my problem? does Tiger have the same issues?

  • Is there a way to stop .oam files from previewing as previously placed files in Muse CC?

    I'm placing a new .oam file in a new website I'm creating in Muse but it previews as a previous .oam file that I used in a previous website. When preview the page on a browser it's fine but it's making it hard to place the .oam file in the correct position. Is there a way to stop this from happening so it previews correctly in Muse?

    If you're using Safari as your web browser go to "Safari -> Preferences...", select "General" from the toolbar and uncheck the "Open safe files after downloading" box.
    Other browsers should have a similar setting in their prefs.

  • HT2506 hi i can't seem to copy and paste pdf files from preview to a microsoft word document. it always comes up with nonsense characters in the word document. how do i fix this? thanks in advance

    hi i can't seem to copy and paste pdf files from preview to a microsoft word document. it always comes up with nonsense characters in the word document. how do i fix this? thanks in advance

    Hi,
    The quickest way to do this (tested with OS 10.8.2, MS Word 2011) is in one line:
    tell application "Microsoft Word" to close every document whose name begins with "book"
    The reason why your script doesn't work is that you aren't specifying to Word which document you want it to close.
    So, changing one line ought to do it:
    close document incrementvalue -- instead of "close document"
    But... when you close a document, you change the document count. Document 2 becomes document 1, document 3 becomes document 2 etc. So eventually you'd get a message saying "The object you are trying to access doesn't exist".
    Because of this, if you want to do it in a repeat loop, you have to work backwards:
    tell application "Microsoft Word"
      set doc_count to count documents
      repeat with x from doc_count to 1 by -1
      if name of document x begins with "book" then close document x
      end repeat
    end tell
    Hope this helps.

  • The application "PREVIEW" can't locate files, cancels shutdown. How can I remove these files from PREVIEWS memory?

    Does anyone know how I can stop this program from looking for files? Every time I restart PREVIEW gives two errors while it's searching for image files that are no longer there. FYI this is a lingering problem related to the replacement of my hard drive (under recall from apple), iphoto had to be totally rebuilt many times through technical support. Now there's just this program still trying to open phantom images.

    If you prefer to make your user library permanently visible, use the Terminal command found below.
    http://osxdaily.com/2011/07/04/show-library-directory-in-mac-os-x-lion/
    You might want to bookmark the command. I had to use it again after I installed 10.8.2. I have also been informed that if you drag the user library to Finder it will remain visible.

  • How can I locate the original .CR2 /  Raw file from Photos in finder?

    How can I locate the original .CR2 /  RAW file from Photos in the finder window? I would like to know a easier way to open my files and use them in Photoshop than having to go to the Pictures folder, right clicking "show packaged contents", and manually searching for my CR2's / RAW's. It is also ridiculous to have to export the RAW file to my desktop, and then take it into Photoshop or another photo editing program.  I was able to do this in iPhoto and find I cannot do so in Photos. Please help? Can you please consider adding a right click function that says "Show Original file in Finder". That would make it so much easier and better for those of us who want a simple way to access the original files and use them in other editing programs. At least with iPhoto you could go to the top menu / preferences and find your items.

    http://www.apple.com/feedback/macosx.html is the place for feature requests and feedback
    Rather than use the 'Show package Contents route, the supported and safer way is to export the unmodfied original.

  • Can't open older .m2v files (from DVD Studio 3) in DVD Studio 4.1.2

    I am trying to rescuscitate an project created in DVD Studio 3, now running on DVD Studio 4.1.2. I can't open or import older .m2v files into the current project. I tried opening the files with Quicktime, and Compressor, but they are not recognized there either. Any ideas how to convert them or make the project accept them?

    I've searched for this topic, but can't understand all the tech-speak! I'm in my 20s, so I'm not dumb, just not in the loop. Someone break this down for me in layman's terms.
    It sounds like gmail has serious problems with MIME data. That isn't something it should have trouble with. It has been solved for a long, long time now.
    Even when I hit "View as text," it doesn't make any sense. I'll paste a copy below. Can someone please tell me what application to open up MIME files in?
    Ordinarily, your e-mail program.
    I have a program I used to sell years ago when people started sending MIME e-mail messages that AOL couldn't understand. Perhaps I should update it if all the world is switching to gmail and gmail doesn't handle MIME either. 1996 is here again.
    Anyway, click here to download it.
    Technically this is a shareware program and technically I could make money from it. But very few people need this program anymore and it should work just fine for you in "demo" mode.

  • Drag files from bridge to finder?

    Am I able to drag files from Bridge to the finder? I'm working on a server and when I drag files from one finder window to another it'll copy those files in the new location. Can I do that visually with Bridge?

    Whatever you do in Bridge is instantly reflected in the Finder and vice-versa.  Bridge is only a file browser that shows you what's in the Finder.  You cannot avoid copying a file to the hard disk if its on a server.  Period.  Even from a local disk to another local disk, you must COPY the file.
    On a related note:
    This is the boilerplate text often used in connection to working across a network (please NOTE the part where it explains that normally, it does work, but that it is impossible to troubleshoot someone else's network remotely, and that's why it's not supported by Adobe):
    If you are opening files over a network or saving them to a network server, please cease and desist immediately in the event you are currently experiencing problems with one or more files. Working across a network is not supported.
    See:
    http://kb2.adobe.com/cps/406/kb406793.html
      Copy the CLOSED file from your server to your local hard disk, work on it, save it again to your local hard disk, close it, and copy the closed file back to the server.
         Of course, the fact that Adobe does not support working across a network does not necessarily mean it won't work.   It should.
        Adobe's position is that there are too many variables in a network environment for them to guarantee that everything will work correctly in every network, especially given the fact that if something does not work properly, it's probably the network's fault, and Adobe has no way of troubleshooting your network.
      If you can't work locally, you are on your own, and if something happens, you're on your own. If you must work from a server, make sure your network administrator is a competent professional.
    When problems arise, a lot of valuable work can be lost.

  • M2v files from compressor will not play in QT or DVD Studio Pro

    I have 2 hours of HD footage that I am trying to put on a DVD. I tried exporting the entire thing (twice) to an mpeg2 but the resulting file would not open and froze quicktime. I then tried exporting the chapters individually. Even though I tried this twice, only the first clip worked. I then copied each chapter into a new sequence in FCP and exported each sequence to Compressor. This time, I could only open one of the 15 or so files in QT, but I could not even import that into DVD Studio Pro (it said it was an invalid file type). I have been using all the same settings, so I am not sure why chapter 1 works fine everywhere, chapter 2 works in QT but not DVD Studio Pro and the remaining chapters do not work anywhere. Anyone got any ideas as to what to do/try next?

    I know that it will take a while, but after two tries exporting the whole thing and the result not working, I broke it up into smaller, 10 minute sections hoping that the computer would be able to handle them better and if one is bad, it is easier to fix than re-doing the entire thing.
    The Compressor settings I am using: DVD Best Quality 150 minutes with all the default settings except that I put stream usage at HD DVD. I have also tried using Fastest Encode 150 minutes, also changing the stream usage.
    I exported 20 minutes with Fastest Encode and changed the file format to 'H.264 for DVD Studio Pro' and it worked, but it is a mov file that is much bigger than the mpeg2 (m2v) file.
    I started the compressor to work on the remaining hour at night and then left it until the next afternoon, but when I came back, it said there were 60+ hours remaining, but FCP was counting off the frames. I left it for another couple hours, hoping that compressor was simply estimating wrong, but when I came back, it said there were 93 hours remaining until it would be done. I canceled it and restarted the computer.

  • Stop iPhoto files from appearing in desktop and screen saver.

    I have pictures in IPhoto that I want to maintain the security and restrict access. The photos are confidential. The problem is that the files show up in screen saver and desktop. In OSX.5 how do you remove iPhoto files from desk top and screen saver? or prevent desktop or screen saver from accessing the files?

    Walter:
    You'll need to put them in their own library and put the library in a password protected (disk image) dmg file big enough to hold the library. You can use iPhoto Library Manager to quickly move between libraries after opening the disk image.
    TIP: For insurance against the iPhoto database corruption that many users have experienced I recommend making a backup copy of the Library6.iPhoto (iPhoto.Library for iPhoto 5 and earlier) database file and keep it current. If problems crop up where iPhoto suddenly can't see any photos or thinks there are no photos in the library, replacing the working Library6.iPhoto file with the backup will often get the library back. By keeping it current I mean backup after each import and/or any serious editing or work on books, slideshows, calendars, cards, etc. That insures that if a problem pops up and you do need to replace the database file, you'll retain all those efforts. It doesn't take long to make the backup and it's good insurance.
    I've created an Automator workflow application (requires Tiger or later), iPhoto dB File Backup, that will copy the selected Library6.iPhoto file from your iPhoto Library folder to the Pictures folder, replacing any previous version of it. It's compatible with iPhoto 6 and 7 libraries and Tiger and Leopard. iPhoto does not have to be closed to run the application, just idle. You can download it at Toad's Cellar. Be sure to read the Read Me pdf file.
    Note: There now an Automator backup application for iPhoto 5 that will work with Tiger or Leopard.

  • How do you stop downloading file from hyperlinks

    Sometimes I click a hyperlink and a file starts to download.  Is there a way to have a confirmation screen ask if I would like to download this file.
    I hate that is just does it. It would stop a a lot of garbage in my download folder too.

    which might lead to much worse future exploitation where installation would proceed without requiring any password or user action.
    No, that's not currently possible.  A .mpkg installer package can be opened automatically, because it is just a document opened by Apple's installer.  As such, it cannot run any third-party code without user intervention.  It's possible an installer might not require a password (though then it wouldn't be able to install in Applications), but would still require the user to follow through.
    Didn't mean to restrict what I was saying only to an .mpkg installer package (the current avenue of attack this current Trojan is using.) Just meant that it seems to me that where a download of any kind automatically follows from clicking a link, this might be an exploitable first level of weakness for someone who finds a way to write code that bypasses quarantine, admin authentication and elevates to root. Of course, would hope that would be very difficult. But Apple seems constantly to be patching against this kind of possibility, so it doesn't seem completely out of the question. I don't know enough to know how completely out of the question it is.
    And, those still using Safari with Tiger, unsupported going on two years, would seem especially vulnerable.
    At least, Firefox alerts you to a download and gives you the option to cancel.

  • How to stop as files from running until a certain frame

    Hi all,
    I have a simple flash game with two frames at the moment.
    Most of the stuff that happens is in as files linked to
    different movie clips.
    I orignially only had one frame my background frame and when
    testing I just press ctl+enter and bamm away it goes the
    actionscript runs as soon as the movie/game starts and ergo the
    game plays.
    My problem is this, I now want to have a start/home frame at
    the beginning (of course) which has the start game button on which
    when clicked THEN starts the game.
    Currently the game starts in the first frame along with the
    start button :(
    How do I stop the game running straight away and my first
    frame only contains the start button, which when clicked then goes
    to the 2nd frame and starts the game?
    Reagrds,
    Red.

    A friend resolved the issue for me;
    By renaming the main contrustor and calling this in the start
    button Example action script applied to the button:
    START OF ACTION SCRIPT
    import flash.events.MouseEvent;
    stop();
    startBTN.addEventListener(MouseEvent.CLICK, startClick);
    function startClick(event:MouseEvent):void
    trace ("Button clicked");
    gotoAndStop(2);
    gameGo();
    /*gameGo() is the renamed main document class, renaming it
    prevents it from been run instanly
    and it is called from the button*/
    END OF ACTION SCRIPT

  • When I click the share button to email a file from Preview or Safari, I get an error sound

    As one other user previously stated with a similar situation:
    I use preview all the time to email pdf documents. When I click the share icon then click mail all I get is the "clunk" noise I associated with error messages, but nothing else, no dialogue window and no error message. I can't find anything in the Preview preferences about sharing.
    How can I send the file that I am previewing with this sharp button via email.  I use Outlook for Mac as my email program.  Outlook for Mac 2011 version 14.4.8

    Do a backup.
    Quit Preview.
    Go to Finder and select your user/home folder. With that Finder window as the front window, either select Finder/View/Show View options or go command - J.  When the View options opens, check ’Show Library Folder’. That should make your user library folder visible in your user/home folder. Remove the following. You may not find them all. Restart and test.
    Containers/com.apple.Preview

  • Is there a way to stop downloaded files from automatically opening?

    When I download unarchived image files through a web browser (eg: from yousendit) they automatically open up in Preview.app. I thought this was an annoying Preview thing so I changed my .tif and .jpg files to open with Photoshop...which now launches and opens the downladed files. Is there a way to supress this behavior?

  • Can't open certain files from Dock or Finder Window

    Since going to OS 10.6 certain files won't open from the dock or by double clicking them in a Finder window. I think this may only be Excel files. Not all of them behave this way. I haven't found a pattern yet. My dock set up has Folders displayed as lists. When I navigate to a file in a list it should open when I release the mouse. Some do, some don't. Same with finder window, some docs won't open with a double click. They can only be opened by going to Excel and navigating from the File > Open menu. I often Save As on files as I build a new show on top of an old one. Probably an Excel issue. Any ideas?

    Nope. For example, one folder has two xls workbooks, two Word docs and a pdf. Only one of the xls workbooks won't open. All the other files open normally. When I try to open the problem xls workbook, whether from the dock or the Finder window, I end up in Excel, but without the workbook opening. When I quit Excel, the problem workbook started Excel, but didn't open.
    Update - I'm seeing something now. I use Excel to build "shows," I'm a production mixer for television. I went to one folder, five xls workbooks open fine, four do not. The four that don't open were modified (Save As with changes) with each "show." This was the first pattern I've noticed and only because that particular subfolder had the four workbooks with that relationship. The other xls workbook I described has the Save As file in another folder, but I'm not sure what the original file was. Note - those two "corrupt" files are unrelated, they had different "parents."
    What could I look for in the original file that won't open and passed that gene onto its spawn?
