Stop mail including headers on forward

I have the latest version of Mountain Lion.  While this was not happening after the upgrade, at somepoint along the way something changed--by me or by Apple update.  I want to change it back.
Details:  When I forward mail, Mail includes the full email header at the top of the email content. Not just From and To and what was there in the past, but *all* the headers including Content-Type,Content-Transfer, Message-ID,X-Mailer,Mime-Version, all the Delivered-To, Recived, ... everything!  It it put at the top of the email.  Using classic or the "new" view makes no difference.  Happens whether or not "details" are shown when viewing the mail in the pane. Does not happen when "reply" to email.  Just with "forward".
How to turn this feature off? I do not want to include headers like this.   I've checked all the Preferences and Menus and cannot find anything which controls this behaviour.  If there, it's hiding in plain sight for me.  I don't recall turning it on. This happens whether the "details" are "on" or "off" when viewing the original mail.
Help.

I found the solution on another post (not found before I sent the above).
https://discussions.apple.com/message/19286015#19286015
Preferences -> Viewing -> Show Header Detail. Set it to Default.Mine was originally set to Full, and it wouldn't make any difference when viewing received messages, but it was creating all this extra stuff when forwarding. Once it is set to Default, forwarded messages have traditional small header.
I must have changed it; changing back worked.

  • How many times can you forward an e-mail which has been forwarded to you?

Many times, I receive an e-mail forwarded by a friend whose other friend forwarded him the same e-mail. Soon, the forwarded e-mail is very long since it has been forwarded so many times. Is there a limit to how many times an e-mail can be forwarded? Also, what can I do so that the only address I see is that of my friend instead of the address of anyone and everyone who either received or forwarded the original message? Thank you.

First, there is no limit. Second, avoid the problem by having everyone you know remove your name from their lists. Third, direct all such forwarded mail into the trash directly by creating a Mail rule. Ask all your "friends" to configure their email program to not include the text of the forwarded email in the body of the forwarded message (and if they send all this stuff to you from an email list, are you really their friend?)
If you cannot resist, then simply remove all the repetitive included forwards from the message before you send it to some other poor soul.

  • Mac mail bounce back when forwarded

Help! I use mac mail on my ibook to get mail from my go daddy server. Recently I cannot forward mail to one of my 3 accounts. when I try I get this message:
Hi. This is the qmail-send program at p3plsmtpa01-07.prod.phx3.secureserver.net.
I'm afraid I wasn't able to deliver your message to the following addresses.
This is a permanent error; I've given up. Sorry it didn't work out.
    <[email protected]>:
Sorry, no mailbox here by that name. (#5.1.1)
Go Daddy says it's a problem with mac mail. I can forward mail to this account ([email protected]) when I use their mail page.
I'm fairly computer illiterate and would appreciate any help offered.
    thanks

Making a rule to simply move emails from an unwanted sender (with a real email address) to the trash, is no solution at all. The whole point is to Reject that person's email by bouncing it back to them, with the intention of showing them they have NOT reached a valid email address. The whole point is to STOP their behavior, not accept it. Your suggestion, that I have to allow the unwanted email to come in, for me to have to deal with it, trashing it or otherwise, sounds like the attitude of the spammers.
Let's not confuse the point here, Apple put the "bounce mail" feature in Mac mail for a reason, and I just want it to work again.
Bouncing email is not unique to Apple's Mail. There is a RFC specifying how bouncing should be handled. Thomas already explained why bouncing email is not a good idea. Here is the reason quoted from http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Nondeliveryreport.
"Today, however, most email is spam, which usually utilizes forged Return-Paths. It is then often impossible for the MTA to inform the originator, and sending a bounce to the forged Return-Path would hit an innocent third party. In addition, there are specific reasons why it is preferable to silently drop a message rather than reject it (let alone bounce it):
    * Heuristically filtered spam. Spam filters are not perfect. Rejecting spam based on content filtering implies giving to spammers a test environment where they can try several alternatives until they find a content that passes the filter.
    * Viruses and worms. Most times these are sent automatically from an infected machine. Since a bounce may contain a copy of the worm itself, it may contribute to its diffusion."
So using bounce is not a good idea, IMHO.

  • Stop Mail from creating a To-Do folder on email server?

I actually use the Notes and To-Do's function of Mail, however, I don't like the way it creates a folder on the IMAP server to store them, even though they are actually stored on my mac. Basically I want the Note and To-Do functionality to work solely offline.
Is there a way to stop mail creating the "Apple Mail To-Do's' folder?

I know that IMAP is so so so much better than POP, but is setting up your e-mail account to use POP instead of IMAP through Mail an option? I believe that if you were to set it up that way, it wouldn't be able to create that folder to sync with since you're no longer allowing it the IMAP access.

  • How can I STOP mail from syncing with .mac????

I don't have a .mac account, I will never have a .mac account, I have in mail prefs BOTH boxes under "synchronize with other computers using .mac" unchecked, and yet Mac Mail tries to tie up my entire system "synchronizing with .mac" all the time, especially when traffic is heavy (downloading or uploading). I've got activity viewer on and the stop sign is ghosted, there appears to be no way to stop Mail from doing this useless tie up time wasting process that manages to completely freeze up mail until it's completed and sometimes slow up other programs as well. I only have POP accounts, no IMAP accounts that have to be synced.
This didn't start happening until I upgraded to 10.4.11. Prior to that Mail blazed through everything, and it NEVER tried to sync with .mac.
Is there any way to turn this useless "feature" (for me) OFF?
    Thanks!

  • How do I stop mail from looping the same emails into inbox?

How do I stop mail from looping the same emails into the inbox over and over again? It does the same thing with deleted messages that keep showing up again and again in multiples even after deleting them. I have made sure my server settings in all email accounts are set to delete immediately once I delete them on my MacBook Pro/IPhone. This issue has severely compromised the efficiency of Mail on my MacBook. Thanks for any help you're able to give me.

I have tried that but it does not fix the problem.
The "card" group is not a previous recipient.
Although not available for editing in Contacts, it is a valid group showing up in the "To" field of Messages, Mail, or any app using the AddressBook.
Its associated file is automatically created in:
    ~/Library/ApplicationSupport/AddressBook/Sources/<hexaFolder>/MetaData/<hexa>ABG roup.abcdg
This is why it also shows up in the Spotlight results...
If I manually remove this file, it gets recreated...
If I turn off the syncing through iCloud, the entry gets deleted. If I turn it up, it comes back!

  • E-mails get truncated when forwarded

When I forward an e-mail from within the e-mail app, the e-mail does not get forwarded completely. For some reason the original text gets truncated.
I first noticed this on IOS 6 on both the iPhone 5 and iPad 3rd gen.
Please advice me what to do, because this way the e-mail app is not reliable.
    Kind regards.

Thank you. I will have to try this out with a known troublesome link, but I don't recall getting an "open with" dialog in these circumstances. Also, as I understand these things (and I probably don't) the links I have tried to use have been communication links rather than a file opening function. The problem I got the other day was on a BBC site and the function of the link (which was an e-mail address) was to enable me to post a question. I was able to use that address to post the question without using the link shortcut - just sent an e-mail.

  • How do I stop mail compressing my photos?

How do I stop mail compressing my photos? I have set 'Actual Size' in Mail and still the photos are compressed to thumbnail size.
    I'm using Mavericks 10.9.2 on a 2011 iMac.

The best way is to use the Contextual menu application PhotoTool CM to losslessly rotate the photos before importing into iPhoto. Or use Xee, a free image editor with lossless rotation capability.
If your camera has the auto rotate feature turn it off and then follow the suggestion above before importing. That will rid iPhoto of the modified version rotated to the correct orientation.
TIP: For insurance against the iPhoto database corruption that many users have experienced I recommend making a backup copy of the Library6.iPhoto (iPhoto.Library for iPhoto 5 and earlier) database file and keep it current. If problems crop up where iPhoto suddenly can't see any photos or thinks there are no photos in the library, replacing the working Library6.iPhoto file with the backup will often get the library back. By keeping it current I mean backup after each import and/or any serious editing or work on books, slideshows, calendars, cards, etc. That insures that if a problem pops up and you do need to replace the database file, you'll retain all those efforts. It doesn't take long to make the backup and it's good insurance.
I've created an Automator workflow application (requires Tiger or later), iPhoto dB File Backup, that will copy the selected Library6.iPhoto file from your iPhoto Library folder to the Pictures folder, replacing any previous version of it. It's compatible with iPhoto 6 and 7 libraries and Tiger and Leopard. Just put the application in the Dock and click on it whenever you want to backup the dB file. iPhoto does not have to be closed to run the application, just idle. You can download it at Toad's Cellar. Be sure to read the Read Me pdf file.
Note: There's now an Automator backup application for iPhoto 5 that will work with Tiger or Leopard.

  • Process of incoming mails including Excel attachment

    Hello Forum,
we are looking for a possibility to process incoming e-mails including an Excel attachment.
We are already able to receive e-mails in SAP, but we are not able to process/read the attachment in Excel format.
I already checked the blogs of Thomas Jung and Gregor Wolf, but both didn't help for the XLS-attachments.
    Any ideas? Please help...
    Thanks
    Matthias

Okay, so the question is not really about mail (that's just the context).
I deduce from "Excel = hex" that you have to process native Excel files. In that case, this will be an issue as SAP doesn't offer software to decode native files.
From ABAP, the only possibility is to use OLE2 (ABAP statements CREATE OBJECT ... OF, CALL METHOD ... OF, etc.) but that can only work when code is executed in dialog workprocesses, that is not the case here as you are processing inbound mails.
So, I think you can only:
    1) ask users to save Excel files as any text type (CSV, XML...)
    2) delay the processing of the native excel files, users will have to later launch online (dialog) transactions that will read these files using OLE2
    3) get a specialized software (free or not) to read native Excel files
    4) Install a server (Microsoft OS) with Excel installed (licence cost probably), which will be called by SAP to decode the file and return the result

does not seem to be a raliable approach to have ACK --> Mail --> BPM scenario.....why cant the end system send the message directly to the BPM that would be much better design approach.....also what time does it take for the 3rd party to respond back with the Ack message?

    Hi
This may have something to do with the "Automatically retrieve invitations from Mail" option being enabled? Click on the iCal Menu > Preferences > Advanced. It may also be the Alarms setting? This is for 10.6 iCal so it may be in a different place for 10.5?
