Stop Master Password popup on hidden login box? (display:none)

I have a hidden login box on my website using "display:none" CSS and slides out using jquery, but Firefox shows the master password (Password Required) popup when it's hidden.
Is there a way to only show the pop-up when they have clicked the button? It's a bit like the mozilla logo in the top-right.

Hi, Welcome to Apple Discussions,
See if this thread topic helps you, Keychain box comes up when Safari...
Good Luck, post back & let us know if this helps or not.

  • What does the "master password" do on a MacBook Air?

I was looking around on the privacy settings on my MacBook Air, and I came across an option to set a "master password". This sounded safe, so I set a difficult one that was memorable for me. I'm just curious: What does the master password do? Why would I need one? and When can I activate it?
    Thanks

OS X 10.6 and earlier versions
Master Password can be used to reset login/administrator password without using Installation DVD.
If the password is forgotten, try to login to your account and enter the any wrong password 3 times.
"Forgot Password?" box will appear. Click it.
Enter Master Password and the new login password  to reset it.
OS X 10.7 and later versions
You can use Apple ID to reset password in the newer version of OS X.
    Best.

Hello lindyh, for specific Search results you can install specific Search Engine Plugins, example for google : http://mycroftproject.com/google-search-plugins.html

  • After installation, will import/restore of bookmarks require the master password of the previous version

I tried setting master password yet appeared that submit or accept was greyed and it gave no confirmation of setting it. Did not use PC for over a week (out of town for funeral) afterwards and came back to find it now required a master and had no idea what I had used the day I tried setting it. I backed up my bookmarks and now wonder if I install a new version if importing those will require the master password I don't know.
I suggest that the master password set should confirm that it was set. I had "cancelled" on that screen so assumed no password was in place. Tough lesson to learn if I have to reset and lose all passwords.

First, ALWAYS save your passwords someplace safe, just for this reason.
As to the master, this only effects the Password Manager. The other
    managers should not be effected.

  • After resetting my master password and setting up a new one, Firefox no longer accepts any sort of password...help?

in a little more depth: at first the master password popup would ask me for my password, and then it would get stuck in a loop of continually asking me to enter the pw (it would apparently accept it, I never got a wrong pw error or anything like that). Now it never even prompts me for the master pw, and I cant set it to remember passwords for ANY sites. I am currently running Firefox 7.0.1 on Fedora 15

It is possible that there is a problem with the files key3.db and signons.sqlite that store the encrypted names and passwords in Firefox.<br />
Rename the files key3.db and signons.sqlite in the Firefox profile folder.<br />
You can add .old to the file names (key3.db.old and signons.sqlite.old) or move them to another folder to make it possible to undo the action.<br />
You need to set a new Master Password after renaming or deleting key3.db and all currently saved passwords are lost.<br />
If that has worked then you can remove the renamed files that are no longer needed.

    # Click the ≡ Menu Button and choose Options.

If you don't remember your master password, resetting it will discard all saved user names and passwords (as well as personal certificates and private keys, though most people don't have any of these).

  • Firefox somehow changed my mac's master password, now i cannot use my masterpassword anymore. can i somehow override my screw up?

i've tried the password i reset it to, to no avail. i cannot alter the master password settting in my mac os prefereces anymore. I'm afraid to shut it off now.

Firefox's Master Password -- used to secure passwords you've saved in Firefox -- shouldn't be connected to your Mac's password(s). Unless Firefox works very differently on Mac than on Windows.

Start Firefox in [[Safe Mode]] to check if one of your add-ons is causing your problem (switch to the DEFAULT theme: Tools > Add-ons > Themes).
See [[Troubleshooting extensions and themes]] and [[Troubleshooting plugins]]
If it does work in Safe-mode then disable all your extensions and then try to find which is causing it by enabling one at a time until the problem reappears.
You can use "Disable all add-ons" on the [[Safe mode]] start window to disable all extensions.
You have to close and restart Firefox after each change via "File > Exit" (Mac: "Firefox > Quit"; Linux: "File > Quit")

  • How can I recover my master password, set up by mistake, without losing all my existing login / password data?

When touring the latest version of Firefox I created a master password and unfortunately never wrote it down. Now I must get my Church's taxes and W-2's done and I'm unable to login to my state and IRS/SSA accounts as I don't have my latest logins and passwords because they were all stored in my older version of Firefox. Everything I've read, so far, states that resetting the master password will result in the loss of all my login and password data. I cannot have this happen! There has to be some way I can either recover my login and password file data or the password I created for my master password? I need help with this ASAP as time is running out.

Thank you for your response. Unfortunately it is not the solution I am hoping for. Both of the links you posted clearly state that resetting or removing my master password will result in the loss of all my existing login and password data. I wouldn't have a problem with that if I could save or print out my current, but hidden by the password manager until I enter my master password, login and password data which I could eventually reproduce within password manager. Unfortunately this is the only place where I have all that data recorded and we are talking about many many lines of login data!

  • When I go to a website requiring login, and am logged in automatically, I still get prompted by Software Security Defice for master password. New w/Firefox 24.

If I go to a website that requires a login & password, and I have it set up to automatically log me in, I get automatically logged in (it remembers by userid & password for that site), but the prompt from the Software Security Device for my master password appears as well. I can cancel the prompt and it goes away, but it shouldn't show up because I'm already logged in. This problem started happening after I downloaded Firefox 24 yesterday.

Start Firefox in <u>[[Safe Mode|Safe Mode]]</u> to check if one of the extensions (Firefox/Firefox/Tools > Add-ons > Extensions) or if hardware acceleration is causing the problem (switch to the DEFAULT theme: Firefox/Firefox/Tools > Add-ons > Appearance).
*Do NOT click the Reset button on the Safe Mode start window.

Note that Firefox Sync also requires you to enter the Master Password.

I haven't used my IMac in a long time and went to boot it up, and I find I don't remember the correct username and password (I use several computers..I try to keep the passwords similar, with a number for the chronological order in which I started using them) I've tried all the others I use for passwords. The 'hint" keeps coming up for the password I am pretty sure is the correct one, but, still cannot get in.  I also don't remember whether I changed my surname on the computer...it was changed legally a little while ago, but some of my older devices still have my birth-name in there)

  • How can I be sure the popups asking for my master password come from the Software Security Device ?

I did setup a master password on my Firefox. I therefore have the Software Security Device asking for my master password now and then as a popup, but I have no way to be sure that the popup is coming from the Software Security Device.
How can I be sure that it's not coming from a website or an extension trying to steal my passwords ?

That message will not be from Mozilla, there are rogue sites that use this method to try to get people to install malware/viruses/trojans. Do not install anything from that site.

  • On android tablet/phone login box fails to appear to enable access to password protected files. says' unable to open file. try again later'. This only occurs where Adobe is already installed

On all the android devices we have where Adobe reader has been installed,  no login box appears to enter a password where this is required to read the file. A message comes up saying the file cannot be accessed at this time, and to try again later. The box does however appear where Adobe isn't installed, but as soon as Adobe is installed in order to read the file, it becomes inaccessible again. What do I need to do.

    Hi,
Are you trying to open a password protected pdf? Could you please forward the file to [email protected] so that we may investigate?

HOW TO STOP THE PROMPTING MESSAGE OF MASTER PASSWORD EACH TIME I OPEN MOZILLA FIREFOX?

Firefox will ask for the Master Password on startup if it is needed on a page.<br />
This can be Sync or a web page that is (re)opened automatically and you have saved a name & password for this website.
You didn't confirm whether you are using Sync or not, so I don't know which of the two would apply.

  • How do you get rid of master password promt box?

How do you get rid of the master password prompt box without getting rid of using the master passwords feature? I like that my passwords are locked so no one can see them but I get annoyed when I have to type my master password in every time I open up a web page. Would like to only type in master password when I want to view my saved passwords. Does any one know how to remove the annoying box?

Sorry, that isn't the only purpose of the Master Password feature, "locking" your Saved Password dialog from being viewed.
