Stop Mission Control from re-arranging my applications

I am using a MacBook Air late 2013, (Mavericks 10.9) with 2 external screens.
I use Mission Control a lot and the OS is constantly re-arranging my opened apps based on most recent use.
I unchecked that option in the settings already, but it still doing it
Are there any other settings I need to take care of?
Thanks

There's a System Preference in Mission Control for that:
System Preferences > Mission Control > (uncheck) Automatically rearrange Spaces based on most recent use

  • Stop Mission Control from Switching Screen on App Launch

I do development on my Mac, and use Mission Control to have a bunch of different spaces. I have it configured to display web browsers all on a specific space (call it my "browser space").
Part of my work process involves running functional tests via Selenium, which spawns off multiple web browsers as it runs tests. I'd like to be able to do work in other spaces while it's running, but every time a new browser is spawned, I get violently ganked back to my browser space.
I have tried checking/unchecking the "When switching to an application, switch to a space with open windows for the application" to no avail.
It's really frustrating. Is there an easy fix to this?

If you don't have an application bound to a space, then it should launch it in the space you're in.
If you *do* have an appliation bound to a space, it's going to switch.
Don't bind many applications to spaces, and you should lessen this frustration.

  • HT4689 How to stop Mission control from adding Desktops??

Personally, have not had and don't now have any use for Mission Control or any such "innovations."
After 6 years of happy Mac I find all sorts of things some kid thinks I need.
Mail has moved into a Desktop of it's own.  I don't know what I did to have that happen; but, I  have been unable to change it back although I have read the so-called documentation.
As usualit that tell all we CAN do, (sales pitch) but not HOW!!
Will appreciate your help.  Saves another call to Applecare.
    Ed

I asume you have tried this in a similar situation so I appreciate your replying.
It is full screen and when I clicked the link - I got a very small icon in the center of a large black window  apparently supposed to be a screen shot(png).
The drag to the desired Desktop had been tried repeatedly proving myself to be the fool.  I have practically worn out ctrl ↑ but the 'drag' is only left or right and when placed over my Desktop (THE ONLY ONE I WANT) it just bounces back to the right.  It will NOT drag down to the large window of the "Original."
Why we have come to the place that everyone seems to know what every one else SHOULD have or think, I don't know.   I am blessed to have lived through a better time.    I  luckily retired before our clients realized my lack of smarts as a PE..
Is there some way to delete Mission control??  I was able to control my mission just fine without it.
I do appreciate help and the knowledge that you and others have ..

  • How to? switch between the following mission control preference "group windows by application" on the fly? OR have both readily available

Is there any way to switch between the following mission control preference "group windows by application" on the fly?  I would like to turn this feature on and off quickly. OR have both readily available?
If osx 10.9 does not support this, does any one know if automater can be used to creat a short cut to turn this preferance on and off?
Current solution (not much of a solution)
I currently added the preferance control icon for mission control on my dock.

Do you mean the general System Preferences icon? ...If so, it's possible to put the icon specifically for the Mission Control pane in the Dock:
I'm on Mountain Lion and that Preference Pane is in: Macintosh HD > System (not Users) > Library > PreferencePanes > Expose.prefPane
...Drag that Expose.prefPane to the right-hand side of the Dock, say, next to the Trash. Then you can simply click on the resulting Expose Prefs icon in the Dock to open its Prefs panel.

I had been having a similar problem on Lion with Safari pdf files despite downloading the latest Adobe Reader XI.
I would constantly get the same messages - There was an error opening this document. The file is damaged and could not be repaired. And I would get a blank page when I tried to print the pdf if I tried printing from the Safari web page using File - Print from the top toolbar on my laptop.
Then I came across the grey Safari lozenge with action icons.
This allowed me, without downloading the pdf, to print the pdf file direct from the Safari page by using the Print icon on the grey lozenge that appears centrally three quarters down the screen.
Then I discovered that if I save the pdf using the Save icon from this same grey lozenge on the Safari page I can open and print this pdf version from my desktop.
I've tested it with a couple of different pdf files and these methods work using the grey lozenge icons but the same pdfs files don't work using File - Save As on the Tool Bar.

  • Possible for JRockit Mission Control to Monitor Multiple Web Applications

I have some questions regarding JRockit and Weblogic Server.
The JRockit Mission Control allows users to monitor JRockit JVMs.
If a JVM runs a Weblogic server instance which runs a couple of web aplications, is it possible to monitor individual web applications separately?
If it's possible, is there any kind soul who can guide me through the process in setting up.
    Please assist. Many Thanks!
    Thanks,
    Benjamin

    Hi,
You can use *"wlnav.war"* which is freely available on net. to monitor Servers along with some of the Application attributes like application state/ Session count/ ...etc
"wlnav.war" actually uses WebLogic MBeans to get the details of the Server and Applications...Same thing we can do using our own MBean JMX Codes as well... But still these JMX codes will not be able to tell exactly that which object belongs to which Application.

  • HT4689 Restoring mission control setting within a single application

My "control+down" function is no longer working properly.  Instead of allowing me to view multiple files of the same application (ie. word files), the files are moving completely out of view.  How can I restore this setting?  Thanks!

    Hey!
I just got a new mac and was trying to figure out the same thing today!! I went from an older version to this 10.9.  I called apple support, the tech had no idea what I was talking about.  I was transferred to a manager who told me that it is not feature available on the new models.  After a 40 minute conversation I was about to let it go and then I saw this post and became determined LOL ... and I figured it out (SMH apple support).  So here is how you do you it:
system preferences > trackpad > you want to make sure the "App Expose" is checked off > and you're done!!
I am not able to upload a 2 photos so I will post a second screenshot of what it looks like once the preferences are set.

  • Is it possible to stop Parental Controls from warning about syncdefaultsd and IMRemoteURLConnection?

    This is driving me batty.
syncdefaultsd and IMRemoteURLConnectionAgent relentlessly cause Parental Controls to pop up a warning message about how it's being helpful in restricting these websites.
The addresses are what appear to be rolling IP addresses (https://17.151.236.38, https://17.151.236.39, etc.) I swear I try to whitelist these, but they do not ever show up in the whitelist after I've authorized it. And 100 new IPs will cycle through next time anyway, so what good is that?
The whole concept of this dialog box baffles me. I can only imagine that no one at Apple has ever used this functionality and has seen how obtrusive it is to anyone trying to work with the computer. It appears, steals focus away from whatever app is in the foreground, and then when it is dismissed, does not return focus to the window the user was using!
Is there a writedefaults command to turn this annoying box off, and usage logs I can scan for IPs to add?

I'm having this problem as well. If I turn on 'try to limit websites automatically' I get an endless list of IP addresses and even if I allow them the same ones seem to reappear. Browsing becomes impossible and I see this has been going on since Mountain Lion, disastrous. To get round it I have started to use OpenDNS to filter websites and give my (older) children a standard account. It's not ideal as Open DNS will try to filter any computer using the external IP and their DNS settings but you can use different DNS settings on your own computer.

  • Desktop 1 Mission Control Application Windows

I recently upgraded to OSX Mountain Lion. The upgrade went perfect on my MacBook Pro. Here are my system specs:
    15-inch, 2.53GHz, Mid 2009
Processor  2.53 GHz Intel Core 2 Duo
    Memory  8 GB 1067 MHz DDR3
Graphics  NVIDIA GeForce 9400M 256 MB
I noticed a strange behavior with Desktop 1 when I go to Mission Control. No matter if I open Mission Control *from* Desktop 1, or I move to Desktop 1 from another Desktop in Mission Control, the Application Windows that are open on Desktop 1 do not display.
Notice that the App Icons are displayed, but no Windows.
NO OTHER DESKTOP displays this behavior. Any ideas? Is there a cache I can delete to reset the Desktop/Mission Control?
    Thanks!

Note that this issue occured right after an OSX update, but was fixed after a reboot.

  • ANNOUNCE: JRockit R27.1 and JRockit Mission Control 2.0 released!

New versions of JRockit and JRockit Mission Control are now available!
The following new products have been released:
    - JRockit 1.4.2 R27.1
    - JRockit 5.0 R27.1
    - JRockit 6 R27.1 TECHNOLOGY PREVIEW
    - JRockit Mission Control 2.0
    JROCKIT R27.1
    =============
The JRockit release is a major update from the previous version (R26.4) and includes a large set of enhancements including:
    - A completely new version of JRockit Mission Control (see separate section below)
    - Improved Monitoring and Diagnostics features
    - Improved Supportability features
    - Connect-on-Demand capability for JVMTI and JMX (JRockit 5.0 and 6)
    - A new "Diagnostics Guide" with troubleshooting and performance tuning tips
    - Full support for IPv6 on all platforms
    - Expanded support for Solaris/SPARC
    - Enhanced performance
The 1.4.2 and 5.0 versions of JRockit R27.1 are based on Sun 1.4.2_12 and 1.5.0_08 respectively, and contain all enhancements and fixes made to the Java class libraries from those Sun releases.
JRockit 6 R27.1 is a tech preview based on 1.6.0-rc-b97 from Sun. The public GA of JRockit 6 is expected to be in the first half of 2007, and will bring a larger set of performance enhancements. For feedback on this release, please use our user forums at forums.bea.com/bea/forum.jspa?forumID=2009.
The connect-on-demand capabilities in JRockit 5.0 and 6 are similar to those provided in Sun Java SE 6 and enable developers to connect to locally running JRockit processes without being forced to start JRockit with specific command line options. For JMX there is also an autodiscovery mechanism for remote connections which is very useful in development environments.
For Solaris/SPARC we have added a JRockit 1.4.2 version, which in internal measurements has shown to be very competetive to Sun's 1.4.2 implementation on Solaris/SPARC. Definitely worth checking out! (Note: WLS 8.1 does not officially support running on this JRockit version.)
On the performance side, there are enhancements for WLS applications (10-15%), memory-intensive applications (10-15%) and improved out-of-the-box performance (up to 25%), all based on internal measurements.

    JROCKIT MISSION CONTROL 2.0
    ===========================
Together with JRockit R27.1 we are releasing a completely new version of JRockit Mission Control. The separate tools in JMC 1.0 have been integrated into one single GUI based on Eclipse RCP, which means that any user of the Eclipse IDE should feel at home. All tools features from Mission Control 1.0 are of course still available, and we continue our drive towards exposing all data about your Java application that JRockit has access to. You will also find a large set of usability improvements, including:
    - Drag-and-drop support
    - Configurable views
    - Online and (for the Runtime Analyzer) context-sensitive help
    - Connect-on-demand to local JVMs and autodiscover remote JVMs
One particular area of interest is GC profiling, where much more detailed metrics are available, which can help drill down into the causes for long GC pause times and spikes.
    Release notes:
    http://edocs.bea.com/jrockit/tools/relnotestools/relnotestools2.html
There is no separate download for JRockit Mission Control, instead it is included in the JRockit R27.1 JDK downloads for Windows and Linux/x86. To start using the tools, install JRockit and select JRockit Mission Control from the Windows Start menu, or launch the $JROCKIT_HOME/bin/jrmc executable.
Documentation is bundled with the installation and available from the Help menu.

    Hi,
I have tried and installed the version R27.1.0-109-73164-1.5.0_08-20061129-1415-linux-x86_64 on our 16GB RAM

If I change the -Xmx parameter from -Xmx4000M to -Xmx3000M
    than it didn't work, but
if I change the -Xmx parameter from -Xmx4000M to -Xmx2900M

(The hint to change -Xmx to -Xmx16m is great on a 16GB RAM machine,.. :-) )
    Any ideas?
    How can I use 4GB java-heap ?

  • Mission Control: How to change the order of the Apps?

    OS X Lion
Is it possible, to change the order of the Apps in Mission Control?
When I swipe with my 3 fingers, I first get the Apps, witch I started last.
    Any way to change that?
    Thanks Mark.

Here is a simple way to use Mission Control just as Spaces:
Let's assume in this example we like to assign iPhoto to Desktop 3 (which in Spaces was called Space 3).
    1. Turn off 'Automatically rearange spaces on most recent use
    2. Scroll up with 3 fingers simultaneously or launch Mission Control from the Dock. Click on Desktop 3. While you are in Desktop 3 launch iPhoto. Doublecheck with a right click on the iPhoto symbol in the Dock. Choose options. Confirm 'This Desktop'
NOTICE: Apps are automatically assigned to the Desktop / Space where they are launched for the very first time. However you change this by ctrl-click the application's symbol and assign to None than switch to let's stay with Desktop 3 and launch the application from here. From then on it will be assigned to Desktop 3.
NOTICE: Apps in fullscreen mode will temporarily (for the duration they are in fullscreen mode) be assigned to right most Desktops in Mission Control. Once you restore to a window you will find yourself again in its (app's) asigned Desktop.

  • App Expose and Mission Control in Lion

Several people have posted, confused by how App Expose works. I hope to clarify the function of App Expose and Mission Control.
    APP EXPOSE
App Expose in Lion works differently than Expose did in Snow Leopard.
App Expose is intended to show all open windows from the same application.
Expose used to show all open windows from all applications.
To test App Expose in Lion, open two (or more) separate windows in Safari (or any application). Three-finger swipe down on your trackpad and App Expose will reveal your two (or more) open Safari windows.
    MISSION CONRTOL
In Lion, the most similar thing to the old Expose (from Snow Leopard) is the new Mission Control.
To test Mission Control, open several applications. Three-finger swipe up on your trackpad and Mission Control will reveal all open applications, dashboard and spaces. If you have multiple windows open in a single applications (like three separate Safari windows, for example), MIssion Control groups those same-app windows together.

Mission Control ended years of divergent attempts to manage windows and widgets, consolidating Expose, Dashboard, and Spaces into a new Mac interface.

  • Mission Control - Suggestion

    Hi there,
me and a friend discussed the new Mission Control and its way to organize windows. When one have a lot of windows open Mission Control beautifuly organizes one's windows to preview miniatures, and it's really great. Though, when one have only three windows open, for example, Safari, Mail and Spotify (running all three semi-fullscreen, dragged to maximize), Mission Control stack up these windows on each other. This feels both less beautiful and, more important, less effective.
Am I the only one who would like the kind of miniature previews all the time, not depending how many windows are open?
Tried to post example pictures, but they were to big, I'll post them later when I've scaled them down.
    Miniature:
    Not miniature:

My friend also told me Mission Control behaves different depending what application one is using. When he runs Skype, Safari and Spotify he gets the miniatures, but when he closes Skype and opens iTunes instad, the stacking mode is on.

  • Who agrees the thumbnails in Mission control need to be bigger?

Yes/no . I am on an eleven inch air. They look like little postage stamps with braille on them. Totally useless to me. Did anyone at Apple bother to test it on an 11 inch air to see how it worked? I have to wonder.

I am also having the same problem. However I do notice that when I open a fresh desktop and I view mission control from that desktop I can see all of the desktop thumbnails ok. However they fail to work when I 'slide' across to the other desktops... See the below images. Anyone know a fix?
