Stop office opening previous file

Hi,
I am using MS Office 2010 and I had just upgraded my OS from Snow Leopard to Lion. After the upgrade, I had observed that each time I open my MS Word/Excel, it keeps opening those previous file that I had opened before.
How can i stop this? I hope to revert to the old times where each time i open Word/Excel, it would be a new document and NOT it automatically open those previous files.
Pls advise.
Thank-You
Roy

Preview is doing this to me
- i unchecked 'Restore windows when quitting and re-opening apps'
that didnt make the preview files all close.
- when i hold down option and quit preview, it says 'Quit and Keep Windows'
so i checked the Restore windows when quitting and re-opening apps box again, went to preview and I was then able to Quit and close all windows. Did so, but they are all still there - open.
I even Quit and closed all windows, unchecked the 'Restore windows when quitting and re-opening apps box again before opening Preview - but yep, all those jpgs and pdfs were still there
can anyone help me?

flash 8 professional is slow and cannot open previous files,
I can't fix it. I use a Mac. It also crashes while loading if I
open another app. any help, please?
EDIT: Also, I CAN open flash, if that helps.

Have you checked that you are opening the new version? To check this, open a Finder window, select Applications in the sidebar and open the Pages app with the new icon, so you will get the new version.
Your problem is caused because Apple decided to keep the old iWork applications version after installing the new one. The only thing you have to do is to open it from the Applications folder, or drag the new version to the Dock, so you can access to it quickly

  • Since Lion; programs re-open previous files when relaunching programs!

Ever since I upgraded to LION - every single program re-opens previously viewed files when launched.

  • Stopping Quicktime opening MP3 files in IE8 on Vista

When I updated to iTunes version 9, Quicktime was also updated to version 7.6.4
Now, whenever I click on a link to an mp3 file in IE8, it opens in a new browser in Quicktime, and, as I do not have and do not want Quicktime pro, I am unable to save the file. This is a real pain, as I cannot download the mp3 file. An example of this is the Snickers website, which uses Flash, so there is no option to click on the link and "save target as" and clicking on a download link just opens the file in a new IE8 browser in Quicktime. At present, MP3s are associated with iTunes, which is what I want. I have tried what has been suggested elsewhere and changed this association to Windows Media Player and then back to iTunes, but this has not helped. I have tried disabling the Quicktime IE 8 plugin, but this just opens a browser with a message telling me that the plug-in is disabled.
Please can anyone tell me how to stop Quicktime doing this and allow the files to be saved?
    Many Thanks
    Mark
    Version information:
    Quicktime Player 7.6.4 (518.35)
    Quicktime 7.6.4 (1327.73)

    Thanks for your reply.
    The link is:
    http://www.getsomenuts.tv/?gclid=CIn8zfT_550CFdBb4wodjmKFLw#/downloads/
BUT... the site checks you are not a kid (don't worry, it's not an adult site, just a MR T themed Mars Snickers Bar site), so this link will probably take you to an enter your age page. If that happens, you will need to enter your age, then select More from the menu and then select loud and proud.
Once on the downloads page then select any of the sound bites.
    Thanks again for your help

  • Pages 5.1 won't open previous files in iCloud.

Updated Pages today to 5.1. Now, when I open Pages and choose a file to open that is in iCould, the file won't open. Pages seems to open files on my Mac.
Pages '09 won't open then files stored on iCould either. Pages 5.1 gives me an error message saying the file cannot be opened. Pages '09 gives no message; it just won't open the file.
If I drag the file from the iCloud window in Pages to my desktop, the file will open. Looks like a bug to me.

    I'm having a similar problem.
Running Pages 5.1 on my iMac and my MacBook Pro.
I can't open any Pages document on iCloud from my iMac, regardless of where that document was originally created (iMac, MBP, or iPad). I have tried File -> Open File... from within Pages, as well as by double-clicking the file within the iCloud folder in Finder. However, I can copy the file to my desktop via Finder, and then open it from my desktop. I can create a file in Pages on my iMac and save it to iCloud, but then I can't open it later.
However, I can open any Pages document on iCloud from my MacBook Pro without any problem - including the ones that won't open on the iMac.

  • Applications opening previous files automatically, can I stop this?

All of my applications have a weird quirk since I installed Lion.  Every time I start them they automatically open the last file viewed.  Is this a new feature of Lion or a glitch that hasn't been worked out yet?  And is there anyway that I can stop it because it's severely annoying.  Thanks for any input!

It is called "Resume" and is one of the "250+ new features "of Lion.
You can disable it in Systemsettings - General Prefs ( where you also set blue or grey as the desktop colors ).
Below the "last used objects" you find the setting if Lion shall also remember how apps were closed and if Lion shall re-open them with where you left.
You can also let it be default and decide on a  per App / per Usage decision for each app that makes use of these features : In the menubar when you go to "Quit (appname)" , hold down the option key - then "quit" becomes "quit and forget state" ( similar meaning, i have german osx ) .

  • Preview and QT in Lion are opening previous files

Ever since I updated to Lion, whenever I open Preview or QT, they open the last files I was looking at in addition to the new file I want to view.  Why and how do I stop this from happening?  The preferences in those apps don't have any settings for history, etc.  In fact, QT no longer has any preferences at all!  wth?

Yeah, that's one of the features of Lion. It allows you to go back to the project you've been working on before you closed the app. In some apps, it's great, in others a pain (Safari).
To prevent that from happening, close the window you are working in, or listening, before closing the application.

  • Can I prevent Mac OS X Lion from opening previous files when applications are launched?

Since upgrading to Lion each time I click on a file (and the program opens) in addition to the file I clicked on also the most recent file I had open in that program opens also.  Is there any way to prevent this action?

  • Everytime i try to open a pages file it opens previous files and freezes on the file i actually need

    Hi
I am a professor and I made numerous Pages for labs and now it freezes everytime I try to open what I created this summer

If you close all documents before quitting Numbers or Pages, you won't have them reopening when you launch the app again. If you don't want to have to close everything first try Mountain Tweaks. The option to turn off resume is at the bottom of the left-hand column under Lion. You can quickly close all open windows in an application by typing ⌘ ⌥ W (Command + Option + W) or hold down the Option/alt key while clicking the red close button.
Hold down the shift key while launching Pages to prevent it from trying to open all of those files you didn't close.

  • CS6 Crashing On Launch OSX 10.8.3 - How to prevent re opening of previous files on launch

How do I prevent Fireworks CS6 from opening previous files in it's workspace?
It seems to be trying to load each image file multiple times, I can see at least 5 or 6 tabs for the each image as they load.
It seems to load about 40 or 50 images before it crashes so I'm unable to use ay menu options within Fireworks.
I've tried to locate an Application cache but to no avail.
I've also tried un-ticking the 'Repoen windows when logging back in', that didn't work.
    Any thoughts?

Finally found a solution to this problem:
Remove saved state for Fireworks CS6 on Mac OS X Mountain Lion
    Quit Fireworks.
In the Finder, navigate to /Users/Your User Name/Library/Saved Application State/com.macromedia.fireworks.savedState
    3 files in folder:
    data.data
    window_1.data
    windows.plist
Prefix files with 'OLD' just to be safe.
    Start Fireworks

Hi when i switch on the macc 41 files open at once can not open any files while this is happing can still use AI & PS and the internet any help thanks...

Are you wanting to stop the 41 files from opening at once or is this intentional? At what point do they open when you power on the mac or when you boot Illustrator? What OS version are you using?
If you can  answer the questions above can provide better advice, but you may be running into something similar:

  • Cannot open the file "**.indd".  Undefined error.

I've started getting this error in CS3 (Windows XP SP2) since installing CS4 and CS5.  It only happens on files I'm opening from my NAS which I've never had a single problem with before.  I get this error in CS3 (which is still my default for opening files) even on files which I have never even opened in a later version of Indesign, let alone saved from it.  CS5 files open in CS5, as do CS3 files, but CS3 doesn't work anymore.
I've tried deleting preferences, hasn't worked.  If I copy the file to my local drive it opens fine, but a funny thing happening though is that the lock file appears very breifly in the folder then goes away again.  One thing I did which was a bit unusual is I installed CS5 first then CS4.
I realise this is very confusing, I'm just posting it in the hopes that someone else has had a similar experience?!

That's good advice, I get the logic of it, but I've had no problem uninstalling.  When I uninstall CS4 it works fine, just like it used to, so there's nothing for an uninstall script to fix!  It's just that as soon as I install CS4 I can't open CS3 files off the NAS in CS3.  So it's the install that is the problem, not the uninstall.
Do you have a install cleanup script?
In regard to what you said about Windows getting confused because I installed CS5 first; on another machine I tried just installing CS4, same problem.
I tried installing just CS5 and that works fine, it's just CS4 that stops me opening CS3 files in CS3, and it's probably some stupid problem unique to my combination of NAS and OS and versions....
I realise that I could try uninstalling everything, running cleanup scripts and installing again, but I would be replicating exactly what I've already tried, and as Einstein said trying the same thing and expecting different results is the definition of insanity.

  • Office Open XML PowerPoint in Keynote?

Has anybody found a way to import Office 2007 .pptm files in Keynote? One of my profs last quarter posted everything in his online class in the latest version of PowerPoint (instead of just simple docs...) and I was hopelessly stuck having to go into the school to convert them on their computers which defeated the reasons for taking an online class. I saw that Pages was able to import Office Open XML files and hoped that Keynote would be able to also.
I have Windows installed under BootCamp and Parallels for some modeling tools, but I don't feel like getting an old copy of Office and Microsoft's XML document converter just to be able to convert one type of document. This latest iWork successfully replaced NeoOffice for everything I needed and saves me from going into Windows that much more. (Numbers is brilliant!)
Maybe more XML document importing will be added with a point release of iWork?

This problem bit one of my Mac users, and it took me a little while to figure out what was going on.
In Office 2008 for Windows, there are two new types of file formats. One type ends with an 'x', the other with an 'm'. Both are OOXML-based ("Office Open XML"), but the latter is "macro-enabled". For some reason, Keynote and Pages (and possibly Numbers?) seem to be unable to open or import the 'm' files, but AFAIK all are capable of importing the 'x' files.
I'll refrain from expressing my opinion on Microsoft's choice to invent and use this new "standard" format, but it seems the fact that it's XML-based seems to work in our favor here. On a whim, I tried changing the extension of an unopenable .pptm presentation to .pptx (without making any further modifications) and opening it in Keynote. And boom! It imported smoothly.
I'm not sure if this works the same with other types by converting .docm to .docx or .xlsm to .xlsx, but it's worth a try. Post your results here, I'm curious.
