Stop program opening when device (camera) is connected.

When I connect a range of things (camrea, SD memory card from camera, iPhone, and iPad) the system assumes I want Aperture to open. I know there must be some way to change the application that starts.
What I really want to do is stop any application from starting.
Thaks very much.

The Aperture->Preferences->Import is where I found it. No application is one of the choices.
Thanks

  • IPhoto 5.0.4 not launching when digital camera is connected

Normally my iphoto opens automatically when I plug in my camera. But today it decided not to work- I've tried unplugging and replugging but to no avail. I'd appreciate all the help I can get. My camera model is Sony DSC-T1 (silver).
I also had some issues with my Cinema Display- for some reason the screen is blank when I turn on the computer- it's only when I unplug the power supply and replug it than it wakes up. I'm not sure if this has anything to do with the power supply.
    Thanks

    Hi there,
Just out of curiousity are you still able to download your images?
I do not have my iPhoto set up to automatically open when a camera is connected to my machine, but if I do open iPhoto, it does connect with camera and I am able to down load images.
PhillyPhan gave great advice and if you tried all 3, I'm stumped but if you can still download photos, then it's some kind of preference that needs to be adjusted... please let us know...

MacPro stop FaceTime opening when connecting camera

thanks for helping, but i already saw this thread.
Ive got the same problem than this people, given my camera is firewire iidc.
"Unfortunately, FireWire video cameras are not recognized as imaging sources, so Image Capture doesn't pick them up. As a result, you can't use Image Capture to prevent FaceTime from accessing this video camera"
    Another solution?
    using Terminal?

I recently went from 10.4 to 10.6 and now itunes does not open when my phone is connected. I have an iphone 3.

Connect your iPhone to your computer. Select it under Devices in the source list left side of the iTunes window.
Select the Summary tab from the menu.
Select:  Open iTunes when this iPhone is connected.

  • IPhoto launches when a camera is connected

I recently installed the newest version of iPhoto, and on the first startup it asked me if I wanted "iPhoto to start when a camera is connected to the computer". I mistakenly pressed "yes", and now I can't find anywhere in the preferences where I can turn this feature off. I'd much rather organize the photos on my hard drive before importing them to iPhoto, so I would appreciate it if this feature could be turned off.

    Hi A,
Using Image Capture to download images and video clips:
Open up Image Capture which is found in the Applications folder.
When it is opened, go to Image Capture/Preferences
    Under the General button choose
Camera: When a camera is connected, open Image Capture.
The next time you connect your camera Image Capture will open.
In the window that opens you will see an Options button. Click on that button to set your options.
To find out more about Image Capture (it can do a lot more) Click on Help in the menu bar when Image Capture is open.
iPhoto: How to Change the "Open Automatically" Preference
If you find you can't change any of Image Captures preferences or can't access any drop down menus or they are greyed out, check to make sure Image Capture is loose in the Applications folder and not within a sub folder.

Open System Preferences > Users & Groups then select the Login Items tab.
    Remove all apps listed there.
    And check /Library/StartupItems
Open a Finder window. From the Finder menu bar click Go > Go to Folder
Type or copy paste the following:
    /Library/StartupItems

  • ITunes not opening when device connected

About a week ago, iTunes stopped opening when I connected my iPhone.  If I then open iTunes manually, the device will be recognized and will sync.  I checked in the system preferences and my Login Items had iTuneshelper checked, but the icon was a blank piece of paper and on the righ margin there was a yellow triangle with an exclamation point in it.
I don't necessarily want iTunes to open when I connect my iPhone, but I would like to be in control of if it does or doesn't.
How do I set this straight?

Select the iPhone under Devices left side of the iTunes window.
Select the Summmary tab from the menu.
Select or deselect:  Open iTunes when this iPhone is connected
And from the iTunes menu bar click iTunes / Preferences then select the Devices tab.
You can select to have the iPhone sync automatically (or not) there.
Or, right or control click the iPhone under Devices then make a selection.

  • How to remove iPhoto auto open when device connects with USB?

    Hi
When I connect any device using USB cable (mobile, tablet) on my Mac PC , iPhoto starts up and hangs my system for sometime ...
    Thank You.

    Hello there wasylultra,
It sounds like your computer is becoming unresponsive whenever you plug in any USB device that has or takes photos, because iPhoto launches automatically and takes a while to open. You can change this preference in iPhoto itself to open either iPhoto, Image Capture, or no application at all when you connect a device:
iPhoto '11: Change what happens when you connect a camera to your computer
To choose the application that opens:
Make sure no cameras are connected to your computer.
Choose iPhoto > Preferences, and then click General.
Choose an option from the “Connecting camera opens” pop-up menu.
The title of the article mentions iPhoto '11 but the same steps hold true for iPhoto 2013.
Thank you for using Apple Support Communities.
    All the best,
    Sterling

  • "When a camera is connected open"  Set to import Images

I loaded the EOS utility for my 50D and now when I plug the camera in Aperture 2 stopped bringing up the Import wizard automatically.
So I then removed the EOS Image capture Utility from the applications folder as I did not want to use it anyway .
I had a look under Preferences in Aperture to change the default action and I no longer have the option to start the import wizard when the camera is plugged in.
Preferences> General > "When camera is connected, open:" I only have these options.
    Aperture
    iPhoto
    No Application
/Applications/Image Capture.app But this is greyed Out
    Other....
Could some please explain how I could set this back again so I can set the "When camera is open:" to be start Aperture import wizard.
    Thanks

  • How do I stop iPhoto opening when not wanted?

I don't use iPad - I prefer Lightroom.  So when my iMac was updated to Yosemite iPhoto started opening every time I plug a compact flash card into the iMac.  This is annoying to say the least as each time I have to close it making sure it doesn't start importing images into the wrong place.
How do I "turn off" this feature?  No is no help in the iPhoto "help" and online Apple isn't any better.

Changing this in iPhoto alone may not suffice. Then change the setting in Image Capture as well.
Insert your Compact Card reader with the card inserted.
    Then launch Image Capture.
Under "Devices" select your card reader. Then click the disclosure triangle in the lower left corner to reveal the ""Connecting this ... opens" and set this to Light Room or "No Application".
You will have to do this for each photo device (camera, iPhone, iPad, ...) you own.

  • Aperture 2 opening when iPod Touch is connected

It used to happen with Aperture 1 and it was very annoying. Every time I plugged my iPod Touch into my Mac Aperture opened as if it were a camera. It was eliminated with an update but now it's happening again. Any way to stop this or do I just have to wait for Apple to fix it... again?

molib is right. I just tested it with one photo in the saved folder and then after deleting it. That's still pretty inconvenient. for a slightly more complicated fix, see here:
