Stop programs from auto-opening when connecting iPod touch to PC

I have a PC, and when I charge my iPod touch it wants to automatically open iPhoto, but cannot find it. So it asks which program I should use instead, so I stupidly chose Photoshop. Now every time I plug in my iPod touch, Photoshop automatically opens.
Note: It's not about auto-syncing, I already have that disabled. The problem is I don't have a Mac, so I don't have iPhoto. It's trying to open iPhoto, but uses Photoshop instead.

You may have inadvertently saved a picture from the web, if you hold the Home key it will snap a copy of the picture to your Touch. This is not the same as pictures you sync from iTunes. When you have a saved image on the Touch, that causes Windows to think it is a camera so it wants to open what it thinks is a related application.
You can tell Windows to disable this, refer to this article:
http://support.apple.com/kb/TS1857
Another solution is to connect the Touch to your computer and go into My Computer. Normally you won't see your Touch listed, but if there is a picture saved to the Touch as described above, it will show up as a "drive". Select it an you'll probably see the image saved to the Touch, so you can delete it (or move it to your computer if you want it for some reason).

  • How do I stop iTunes from auto-launching when connecting iPod.

I have found one method of doing this set out below.
You may want to stop iTunes from auto-launching whenever you plug in your iPod. To do this, open iTunes, and select the iPod in the left-hand Source window. Four buttons will then appear in the lower right-hand corner of the iTunes window. Click the left-most button with the iPod icon on it. This will bring up the iPod Preferences dialog. Uncheck the option labeled "Open iTunes when attached." You probably also want to prevent iTunes from trying to automatically synchronize your iPod when you connect by selecting the "Manually manage songs and playlists" option in the same Preferences dialog.
I am unable to find the iPod icon in the left hand Source window, maybe if I connect my iPod an icon will appear, but I don't want to do this in case stuff is transferred between the iPod and Comp or vice versa.
Sorry to be so long winded, but it was difficult to explain without being so.
If any one knows of another way to do what I am trying to do
Perhaps they would let me know.
    ASP   Windows XP Pro

okay. in a 7.0.x, we no longer get the "ipod options" icon when the ipod is plugged in and selected in the sourcelist (the area to the left of the iTunes screen). instead, the ipod options and preferences display for us in the main library screen.
"Open iTunes when this ipod is connected" is kept down at the bottom of the "Summary" tab. (scroll down to the bottom of that tab to see everything under the "Options" heading.)
"manually manage music" (or "manually manage music and videos" if you've got a video-capable ipod) is also kept down at the bottom of the "Summary" tab in the Options area.
for a technique for connecting the ipod without automatically syncing (if you have an automatic syncing option set on the ipod already), and then changing the options to "manually manage music", see:
How to keep iTunes from automatically updating your iPod
unfortunately, that document is also written for itunes 6.0.x or earlier. so in your case the instructions under the "Now that you're logged in as the Guest user, it's time to get back to iTunes and your iPod:" section at steps 4, 5 and 6 should read:
    4. Scroll down to the bottom of the Summary Tab
    5. Check the "Manually manage music" checkbox.
    6. Click "Apply".

  • Stop Aperture from auto launching when connecting an iPhone

Recently installed Aperture 3. The library sits on an external which is connected to the computer via firewire. Every now and then (3 times in the last 12 hours), Aperture launches without being told to. Quite annoying. Does anyone have a fix?
    Thanks in advance.

You may also need to select the same in Image Capture.
You need to have the iPhone connected to allow it to show in the list, then select the iPhone in list and set to 'No Application' (or similar) - I can't recall the exact wording.
I had to do the same some time ago.

  • How do i stop iPhoto from automatically opening when I connect my iPhone?

Hi, well as the title states:
How do i stop iPhoto from automatically opening when I connect my iPhone?
    It's getting on my nerves...
    Thanks.

    This might also be helpful:
I wrote an AppleScript that asks me each time I connect the iPhone/camera/etc whether or not I want to open iPhoto. Usually I just hit return and it doesn't open, but once in a while I'll click Yes to open iPhoto and import videos from my phone. I just did it because it's nice to have a little reminder so I don't go for too too long without importing, but not have it slow things down each time I plug in.
Below is the script. Paste it into AppleScript Editor, then export it as an application. Then set Image Capture to open this app when you plug in your phone. Would love to hear if it's helpful for you or if you modify it to use other criteria to automatically import only at certain times or conditions.

  • How do i stop programs from automatically running when i start up my macbook?

how do i stop programs from automatically running when i start up my macbook?
programs such as.. email and Skype.
When i go to system preferences, then users & groups, then to my name, log in items ....this box is clear, i have unchecked everything, yet things still start up......

sometimes these applications will have a setting in the preferences to not open on login of computer. If you see none of that, you can go into:
system preferences> Users & Groups > Select your user>Login Items.
unlock the settings by hitting the lock icon on the bottom left of the window then youll be able to uncheck these things from opening when you log in.
Hope this is helpful or answers the question.

  • Itunes doesn't open when my ipod touch 4g is connected, consequently it won't charge or sync

itunes doesn't open when my ipod touch 4g is connected, consequently it won't charge or sync

I was surprised too, but I guess nobody gave a cr*p. I figured it out on my own. Basically, sync, then uncheck the box for the option to open iTunes when that iPod is hooked up, sync again, then check the box, and sync one last time. A dialog box pops up that asks if it's OK to install "iTunes Helper". Say "yes". Now it works.

How do I stop mail from automatically opening when iCal events begin?
When an event is about to begin, the mail app opens and I'd like to turn that off since I don't use the mail app.
    Thanks!

    Hi
This may have something to do with the "Automatically retrieve invitations from Mail" option being enabled? Click on the iCal Menu > Preferences > Advanced. It may also be the Alarms setting? This is for 10.6 iCal so it may be in a different place for 10.5?

    G,
You might try downloading Bluetooth Connect & Stop Play from the playstore.

  • Itunes 7.0.2 won't auto open when an ipod is docked

    Hi
I upgraded itunes to 7.0.2 and had no major or minor issues. Then i upgraded (as instructed) my 5th Gen Ipod to 1.2.1 and now iTunes doesn't open when the iPod is docked (in either a belkin cradle or an Apple cradle)- even though the relevant checkbox is clicked. I have unchecked the tick box, and I have also reset the ipod and started fresh, but no change.
Its more annoying than anything especially when the feature is there but refuses to work.
    Any ideas anyone?

A successful workaround: Unsubscribe from the podcasts in question then resubscribe. It's a pain but I could then copy the podcasts as normal.

  • Stopping Safari from auto-opening all old windows

I find Safari openning all of my windows from when I last shut down incredibly aggrivating. Not only to I not want it but it takes FOREVER to get its barings and even start to load all the pages. I don't understand why Lion has all of these incredibly un-useful features turned on by default with no clear way how to turn them off.
If any one knows how to stop this from happening I'd greatly appriciate it. I've done a search and not really found anything. Thanks!

3 or 4 things you can do.
    (1) Turn off this "resume" feature for all applications via the checkbox near the bottom of the System Preferences, General pane.
    (2) Close all windows by hand before you quit safari.
    (3) option-quit safari.
    (4) Launch Safari from the dock using shift-click.

  • Stop iWork from auto opening to previous document

Is it at all possible to change a setting so that iWork applications will stop opening to the previous document I was working on?

    Hi Jay,
Remember what your mom used to tell you about putting things away when you are done with them?
Think of Pages as your 'mom.' If you leave documents on the Pages desktop when you quit the application, 'mom' will make sure they're there for you to work on (or play with) when you start it up again.
If you're done with some of them, then close the ones you don't want showing up next time. If you will be continuing work on some of those ones, leave them open when quitting, and 'mom' will have them ready for you next time.
If you're unable to decide which ones you want later, use the preference setting that tells 'mom' to put them away for you.
    Regards,
    Barry

  • How do stop PREVIEW from auto-opening images?

I'm scanning all my old slides. And every time I finish a scan, Preview automatically opens the pic.
I have Preview as my jpg default, which I would like to keep (not Photoshop, etc).
But I'd like Preview to NOT auto-open these files once they're created.
    Any ideas?

Not sure what printer or scanning software you are using, but if you open and use Image Capture in your App Folder you can direct the Scan To: any number of Folders, Apps or Desktop.

  • ITunes freezes when connecting iPod Touch - even after restored

    Hi,
I have an iPod Touch 32GB 4th generation, I have never had any problems with it until now.
Today I tried to connect it to my iTunes (on my MacBook Pro - late 2011 model) in order to sync it so that I could transfer some of my new music and iTunes would freeze. The mouse would pinwheel and I would have to force quit (it would not respond for over 30mins if left unattended). I created a new admin user and the itunes on the other user recognised the iPod just fine. I used the other user to restore my iPod in the hopes that when connected to my library again, it would be a 'new' ipod and so it would no longer freeze. Unfortunately this was not the case, despite my library recognising an ipod in recovery mode and being able to restore it (so that I can now at least use it in its most basic form). It has subsequently frozen each time I connect my iPod. How can I fix this? Should I just wait for the next iTunes upgrade?
    Thank you
    Frances

    Hi Frances,
    Welcome to Apple Support Communities!
The sugestions in the article below should help. They will resolve most issues that cause iTunes to stop responding when an iOS device is connected to the computer.
iTunes: May become unresponsive when connecting iPhone, iPad, or iPod touch
    http://support.apple.com/kb/ts3219
    Symptoms
In rare instances, iTunes may become unresponsive when connecting an iPhone, iPad or iPod touch to your computer. iTunes may become responsive again after you disconnect the device from the computer.
    Resolution
Expand All Sections | Collapse All Sections
Follow the steps below to troubleshoot the issue:
Install any available software updates for your computer.
For Mac OS X: Click the Apple () menu, choose Software Update, and follow the on-screen instructions.
For Windows: Refer to the documentation for your computer for instructions on using Windows Update to update your computer.
Update iTunes to the latest version.
For Mac OS X: Click the Apple () menu, choose Software Update, and follow the on-screen instructions. You can also download iTunes from the Apple website.
For Windows: Use Apple Software Update, or download iTunes from the Apple website.
Test with automatic syncing disabled.Reconnect your device and test to see if the issue still occurs. If your device is recognized successfully, you may be able to isolate which type of data is causing the issue. Do this by deselecting all syncing options under each of the syncing tabs and then sync. After that, re-enable your sync options one at a time until the issue returns.
Note: If the issue only occurs when syncing data from the Info tab is enabled (For example: Contact, Calendar, Mail account or Bookmark syncing), reset the Sync History (for Mac OS X instructions see this article, for Windows see this article).
For Mac OS X: Click the iTunes menu and choose Preferences. Click the Devices tab and place a check next to option to "Prevent iPods, iPhones and iPads from syncing automatically." Click OK.
For Windows: Click the Edit menu and choose Preferences. Click the Devices tab and place a check next to option to "Prevent iPods, iPhones and iPads from syncing automatically." Click OK.
Check your device for podcasts. If there are any podcasts, manually delete all podcast episodes from the device by sliding your finger across the podcast episode's name and tapping Delete. Once all podcasts are removed from your device, reconnect it to the computer, open iTunes, and test.
If possible, test to see if connecting your device to a different computer with the latest version of iTunes installed resolves the issue.
    Test with iTunes plug-ins removed.
    Quit iTunes.
Navigate to the following folder, based on your operating system:
    Windows XP:  C:\Documents and Settings\[username]\Application Data\Apple Computer\iTunes\iTunes Plug-ins
    Windows Vista or Windows 7:  C:\Users\[username]\App Data\Roaming\Apple Computer\iTunes\iTunes Plug-ins
    Mac OS X:
~/Library/iTunes/iTunes Plug-ins   (The "~" represents your Home folder)
    /Library/iTunes/iTunes Plug-ins
If any files are in this folder, move them to the Desktop temporarily.
Open iTunes and test to see if the issue is resolved. If so, you may leave these iTunes plug-ins removed. If you wish to re-use these iTunes plug-ins, consult the vendor for the iTunes plug-ins to see if any updates are available.
If the issue also occurs on a different computer:
If the issue does not occur on a different computer, or no other computer is available to try:

  • Unexpected error message when connecting iPod touch to mac

Just recently i've started getting an alert from the Sophos anti-virus software i'm running. It only happens when I connect my iPod touch to the mac, and as far as i can see it's coming from the mobilesync backup. Any ideas if i should worry about this and if there's a fix?

  • ITunes very slow opening after connecting iPod Touch

Just bought a brand new 32gb, and have had to restore settings more than once as iTunes won't respond when connecting it to my Macbook. I have the latest iTunes and 2.0 for the Touch. Now it's responding but takes over 5 minutes. Other than restoring it, what other solutions might there be?

I'm having a similar problem. It seems like every other time I plug in the iPod touch to sync or charge it that it goes into recovery mode and I have to restore everything from backup. I have the 2.0 firmware update and iTunes 7.7 but this was happeing even before those upgrades. Any thoughts?
