Stop safari as default browser!!

I use Firefox as my default browser, however if I click on a link in an email it opens Safari instead. How do I stop this from happening?

1. Safari > Preferences > General > Default web browser:
    Salect Firefox.

  • HT1338 Why can I not make Safari my default browser? I did what it said to click on it and accept, but it does not happen.

This is my question.  Why can't I make Safari my default browser.  I have followed directions, but it does not happen.

Not sure what procedure you are describing, but...
In Safari preferences General tab, for the Default web browser setting, select Safari.

  • Safari as default browser

Since making Safari my default browser (which I love) I cannot open my itunes from the desktop and i I keep getting "Safari cannot find the Internet plug-in" message.
for Shock-wave making it unable for me to view Youtube.

Looks that by default Apple are insisting that the updater keeps asking you to install Safari on windows. I opened the updater, went to tools and then turned off automatic updater. I also unchecked the install Safari option.
What a down right cheek Apple has to try to sneak this browser onto my system. I'm happy to manually update from now on if that's the way Apple wants to do things. And everyone always has a go at Microsoft for doing the same thing.

  • Reseting Safari as default browser

I launched Explorer and by mistake clicked on the "set Explorer as your default browser" box.
How can I make Safari my default browser again?
    Thanks in advance,

  • Is it possible to make Safari the default browser on my iPhone?

I'm wondering if there's a way I can configure my iPhone such that when I open a hyperlink in a downloaded app, it goes to Safari rather than the in-app browser. I want Safari to be the default browser for all apps (both native and third-party). How can this be done?

It's a matter of the app. Some apps give you the option to open the link in Safari or in app browser. iFooty is one of them.

  • Disable the check to see if Safari is Default Browser

    Hi,
I want to disable the dialog that pops up that says:
"Safafi is not your default browser" etc...
I want to do this through a batch or reg key when I am installing Safari or just after. I do not want to have to do it manually.
    Any ideas?
There is plenty of information out there on other browsers but not on Safari.

That setting isn't governed by a registry value ... I'm pretty sure it's in the com.apple.Safari plist file. There's information on where that plist is kept in the following user tip:

  • Mail treats Safari as default browser

    I'm using Mac OS X 10.5.6
Whenever i open a link from Mail.app or i right click and press search google, Safari opens up instead of my default Browser Firefox !
    What to do ?

For some reason, Safari always opens if you use Search in Google through Mail, regardless of the default browser. I've always had that issue, though now I'm running Safari 4 Public Beta.
However, clicking Mail links does bring up the proper browser. I seems as if the context menus on Leopard for Search in Google are "hard-coded" to Safari instead of respecting the default browser settings.

  • How can I get Firefox 6.0 to STOP being my default browser?

I need to used Internet Explorer as my default browser for work applications. But since upgrading to Firefox 6.0 this morning, it insists on opening all my work applications when I click on them. I've tried going into Internet Explorer and telling it to check that it is the default browser but that does not seem to have any effect.
How do I get Firefox to relinquish its hold my work applications? Is uninstalling Firefox my only solution?

Firefox 3 will not run on OS X 10.3.9, it requires at least 10.4
Try one of these browsers to see if you can access Hotmail - [http://www.seamonkey-project.org/releases/seamonkey1.1.19/ SeaMonkey 1.1.19] or [http://caminobrowser.org/download/ Camino 1.6.11]

  • How do I make the UK Safari my default browser when I log on ?

Excuse me if this sounds stupid, but Im on broadband and and when I log onto Safari I get the USA version, so if I want to go to the Store page I get prices in dollars, which means I then have to go to a bookmark for the Apple Store UK to get what I want. So heres my problem:
    1. Am I correct that there is a UK Safari browser and if so
    a) Is it identical to the USA Safri browser with news etc
    b) How would I make the UK version my default bowser ?
As usual hope this makes sense !
    Albert

    Albert,
Although some default bookmarks may be specific to the U.S., Safari is generally not country specific. User modification is simply a matter of entering your preferences or deleting unwanted bookmarks.
If you want the UK store as your "Home page", open Safari>Preferences...>General>and paste http://www.apple.com/uk/ into the "Home page:" field.
    ;~)

  • Choosing safari as default browser

This drives me nuts that safari is not my default web browser. Right now it is set with Internet Explorer. I have tried to change it but for some reason the instructions from Safari Help don't match my toolbar options. I went to Mac Help and Explorer Help to try and figure out how to change the browser and no luck. Here is what the instructions tell you to do:
    1. Open Safari and choose Safari > Preferences, then click General
    2. Choose Safari from the Default Web Browser pop-up menu.
When I open up my safari preferences, I don't get any options. I get a security page with security setting options and thats it...no extra tabs for anything else. Just gives me options on web content and cookies. Instruction #2 above does not exist on my computer.
any help would be awesome I hate internet explorer!

In Safari's Preferences click on the capsule icon in the top right hand corner.

  • Can I make Apollo--or any other browser than Safari--my default browser?

I'd prefer to use Apollo since, as a Firefox stand in and the one I use on my iMac, I'm linked to it.
    Thanks.

No, you can't set any other browser as your default.

  • Can't set Safari as true default browser in windows xp

I'm running WindowsXP, and I installed the latest version of Safari. No matter what I do, it won't become the true default browser. I tried using the Safari preferences approach which only has one effect - it changes the icon at the top of the start button task bar to Safari. However, all my links from the desktop, from start...run <type url>, and from MS Outlook all lauch IE. I've also tried changing all the settings in the start...set program access and defaults and nothing will make Safari my default browser.

I don't have access to "Set Programs and Defaults" on my machine. Safari's ability to set itself as web browser, at least on Windows XP, seems to be broken. But I found a workaround. Install Firefox, let it set itself as default browser. Your hyperlinks and such should open in Firefox. Uninstall Firefox. Open up Safari, go to preferences and make sure Safari is set as default browser. Then, at least for me, the hyperlinks started opening in Safari. If you go into Safari and set Internet Explorer as default, you'll probably hose the setup and have to do it again.

  • How to stop Frefox from being default browser? The links under tools do not match the answers in other discussions.

I cannot get Firefox to stop being my default browser. I have read other answers online, but the links under the tools do not match, what the other say to click. I tried to go into internet explorer to change it, but the set default button is grayed out and does not work. Help. I cannot update my programs in Firefox.

Firefox/Tools > Options > Advanced > General: System Defaults: "Always check to see if Firefox is the default browser on startup"
*Press F10 or tap the Alt key to bring up the "Menu Bar" temporarily if the Menu Bar is hidden.
*Use "Firefox > Options" instead of "Tools > Options" if the menu bar is hidden.

  • Make Safari become the default browser vs. IE

Is it possible to make Safari the default browser instead of IE so when I click on Mail in the taskbar, Mail opens in Safari rather than Internet Explorer?

so I am going to accept this truth.
    Thank you,
    Alex

No.  That's a browser-specific function.  In fact, it's much better
to make the scrollbar visible on ALL pages than it is to try to hide
them on some pages.  You can make the scrollbar always visible
(thereby preventing the content on longer pages from shifting left
when the scrollbar appears) with this simple CSS -

    html { overflow-y:scroll; }

  • Safari locks up when making it default browser

If I try to make Safari my default browser by going through the setting in Safari it always locks up Safari. I'm then forced to do a force quit on Safari to relaunch it. Anybody have any idea why this would happen? Firefox has gotten strange on me lately, so I want to make Safari my default one until I can figure out what's up with Firefox.

    Hi Barry,
Sorry for the delay in saying thanks for the help. I ended up rebuilding the launch services database that cured that problem and another one I had. I do really appreciate your help.
    Many thanks again,
    Mike
