Stop Skype from starting automatically on Windows 7

Hello, I have seen some information regarding how to stop Skype from starting automatically on Macs, but for Windows 7, I have yet to see any information. If someone could provide me an answer as to how to stop Skype from opening as soon as I start my computer, that would be great. Thanks.

Found a solution! I had that problem too, but found that if I sign into my account, THEN choose tools -> options, there is a general setting tab where you can unclick "start skype when I start windows". So sign in to your account first, then click tools, options, general settings, and unclick "start skype when I start windows".see post #11 in this threadhttp://community.skype.com/t5/Windows-desktop-client/Stop-Skype-from-starting-automatically-on-Windows-7/m-p/2013293#M194838 in other words, the solution is already in this thread it's probably best to read a thread in it's entirety before posting

  • Prevent Skype from starting automatically

I need to prevent Skype for Android from starting automatically so it will not ring when a call comes in to my Skype-In number. Most of the time I want calls to my Skype-In number to ring on my Skype phone at home only.

I know this is an old post but this is a quite common and relevant topic with which I've spent sometime and would like to drop the solution, at least for Fedora 22 under KDE. In order to avoid skype to start at startup/login (which is quite annoying and a privacy invasion) I just deleted the file /etc/prelink.conf.d/skype.conf and that was it.(let's see if this post is up in the skype forum for long ?!)

  • Howto prevent Oracle XE 11g from start automatically in windows ?

I complete the installation of OraceXE 11g in windows, noticed it start automatically on the next boot. I wonder if there is a way to run a configuration setting to let the application start on boot or not.
Yes I can go to the services and disable, but just wondering if there was a configuration tool to make it easier.
    THX Dino.

    Hello Dino,
you could take a look at the sc.exe, as decribed in this [url http://support.microsoft.com/default.aspx?scid=kb;en-us;251192]MS Knowledge Base Article, e.g.
sc config OracleServiceXE start= demandNote that there really must be a blank between start= and the value for that option.
Simply run this for any Windows service you don't like to start automatically.
The KB-article gives you any additional information you may need.

  • Stop application from starting automatically?

    Hi,
I recently configured a backup utility to auto-start at 2am ET, from within the application's settings.
Unfortunately, when I changed the time to start at a different time, it didn't work. My computer still autostarts the app at 2am.
I've sent an email to the developers, but in the meantime, does anyone know a terminal command or 3rd party application that will let me view the auto-start times of different applications, and configure them?
    Thanks in advance,
    Eric

there is no terminal command like that. this is specific to the application in question. what is it?

  • How to stop PSE9 from starting automatically when I turn the computer on.

    I'm running PSE9 on a imac 10.8.2
I'm not sure why but PSE has just started opening up when I turn the computer on. How do I change this prefernce?
    Thanks

It could be that you have Restore Windows turned on system preferences>General. If that's not it, go to system preferences>users and groups>your account>log in items and make sure it's not in there.

  • How to disable skype from starting up automaticall...

I am trying to turn off Skype from starting automatically when Windows boots up.  I went into Skype, Tools, General Tab and de-selected "Start Skype when i start Windows".  When I hit "save", the tab automatically jumps from "General" to "Advanced", and it prompts me to enter port information as to how Skype connects to the internet???
I do not want to change any of the background connection settings (ie. Ports, Proxy, etc.); I just want the ability to de-select Skype from starting when Windows boots.

Port number for incoming connections must not be empty.

  • Stop Skype from Automatically Loading?

    Dear Skype Community,
Does anyone know how to stop Skype from automatically loading on the computer?  I know there's a check box for not signing you in when Skype starts, but I also want the Skype program not to be automatically open and the icon not be pinned to the taskbar when I start the computer.  There does not seem to be any option in the Skype menu to stop this from happening.  I know this never happened in previous Skype versions, but now it seems impossible to avoid.
    Thanks for the help!

Thanks for the advice, Ruwim, but my version of Skype (6.21.0.104) does not allow you to do that.  If you click on Tools, there is no Options option.  There is Connection Options, but in there, there is no General Tab, nor is there an option to not start it when Windows starts.  Hopefully you'll be able to figure out a different method.
Tools -> Options , etc. will be available to you after you successfully login to Skype. These menus are not available on the login screen.

  • How do I stop iTunes from starting up in the other active Windows sessions?

I have multiple (3) user accounts on a windows (Vista) computer. When I start iTunes from one account iTunes wants to also start up on each of the active windows accounts and continues to attempt to start iTunes after some time period (90 seconds?).
I get a error screen on the attempts for the User that should not be starting iTunes that reads:
You cannot open the application "iTunes" because another user has it open.
Ask the other user to quit the application, then try again.
I want iTunes to run within only one account. How do I stop iTunes from starting up in the other active accounts?

Connect iPhone - iTunes will launch
select iPhone in iTunes' left column
in iTunes' main window untick "Automatically sync ..."

  • Stop Firefox from starting a new tab when a new window opens?

This might be answered, but I cannot find a solution. I will give a scenario for my issue.
I am on the UPS website and click a button to print a shipping label. This opens a new FireFox window, BUT... the new window defaults to a generic tab that ALWAYS opens in circumstances like this. It does NOT open to the tab with my label. The print menu opens, but I cannot switch to the tab with my shipping label. No right click to print either. So I have to go to another browser. Absolutely annoying.
So how can I STOP Firefox from starting this generic tab when a FireFox window opens? BTW, the tab has a search bar at the top and several boxes that I can click on for Facebook, Instagram, etc. Thanks!

Start Firefox in <u>[[Safe Mode|Safe Mode]]</u> to check if one of the extensions (Firefox/Tools > Add-ons > Extensions) or if hardware acceleration is causing the problem.
*Switch to the DEFAULT theme: Firefox/Tools > Add-ons > Appearance
*Do NOT click the Reset button on the Safe Mode start window

  • How can I stop Firefox from loading automatically when I startup my computer?

A while ago I setup Windows so Outlook and Firefox opened automatically when I log on. Now I want to stop FF from opening automatically. I have gone into the Startup folder and removed the shortcut to FF several times but it keeps coming back. I changed the name of Mozilla Firefox in the Windows Programs Directory to xxMozilla Firefox and that didn't keep it from loading. If necessary, I will remove FF from my computer altogether but I would rather not do that.

Aaarg! I tried Matt's suggestion of using msconfig, restarted my computer, and it seemed to solve the problem. Today when I turned on the computer it hung up before loading Windows. I had to use the F12 button to get it to load. I did and it did and Firefox did not load.
Now, this evening, I turned on the computer, the startup procedure was normal, and there's Firefox fired up and ready to go!

  • Can't stop applications from opening automatically at login

A few months ago I tried the "open at login" feature for 4 of the applications in my dock. I have decided it is more of a hassle than it's worth and unchecked "open at login." That didn't stop them from opening automatically. I went into Accounts and made sure the "Login Items" tab was empty. That also didn't work. I even added the programs into the tab, restarted and deleted them. I searched the Apple website and read that you can bypass applications launching automatically by holding shift at the blue screen on startup and then again after typing the password. I set the computer to not login automatically and hold shift every time I start the computer up. I would like to know if anyone else has had this problem and what they did about it. Is there a way to stop them from opening without having to log in every time? Thank you.

go to the directory homedirectory/library/preferences and delete the files loginwindow.plist and com.apple.loginitems.plist. Then log out/in normally. nothing should start up by itself.

Can I stop Safari from starting when connecting to a network on my iPad?
On my home network the wi-fi connection happens automatically without opening Safari. But on my work network, when attempting to make a connection the iPad lets me enter my user name and password, but then tries to open the webpage www.apple.com, which is blocked by iPrism as entertainment, so I can't actually connect to that network. oes anyone know a fix for this problem?
