Stop Taking Over my Media Keys

I use iTunes because I have to as I have an iPhone from work. I do not use itunes to play my music.
If itunes is open on my computer it fully takes over the media keys. I have made WinAmp my default for every possible file type and have moved all the media keys (AppKey 16) over to .mp3 in the registry but I cannot stop iTunes from taking over the media keys.
WinAmp version is 5.63 (x86)
iTunes version 11.0.1.12
Windows 7 - 64 bit

So I think I may have reversed the situation where the media keys work in iTunes only as long as winamp is not open.
under Default Programs > Set program acess and computer defaults > Custom > Choose default media program:
I made it exclusive to winamp and unchecked the access for all other programs.
I'll be back to this forum if this didn't fix my problem.

Stop taking over unused aiso channels

Audition takes over all asio channels, even when unused/unassigned.
For example, if I start cubase then audition I can sounds in both simultaneously...
But if I start audition first then cubase I will get no sound in cubase. This happens for many other applications and cubase seems to be the only one that deals with unused channels properly. As long as I start cubase first things are ok unless I want to run more than 2 applications that have this problem of not releasing unused asio channels.
It is quite annoying and limiting for no apparent reason.

It does as I've used an interface where it didn't matter. BUT cubase doesn't have any issues releasing the asio channels with my audio card so it is obviously an issue with Audition and most other audio apps. It seems they try and keep all the asio channels to themselves and not play nice. With audition open I can't even play normal sound when using asio. For example, if I try to play a movie in GOM, WMP, or VLC I will not get any sound until I shut down Audition. Yet I can run VLC and GOM at the same time and get sound from both. (they are not using asio)
Again, since cubase works fine it is an issue with the way Audition handles the asio channels... simple as that. I have Audition setup for it's own special asio channel that I tell cubase to ignore and it does. I also give cubase it's own asio channel and "disable" it in Audition. Cubase listens, Audition does. Virtually ever other aiso application that I have tried does things similar to Audition and I believe it is simply a lack of releasing the unused/unneeded channels(well, until you shut down the program).

Make FIREFOX stop taking over my documents! I'm a writer, and they don't open as they should after Firefox takes them over!

When I check files, some of my documents--those which have been emailed--are changed from Word to Firefox. The altered documents (some entire novels waiting for acceptance from my publisher!!!!) are no longer Word documents. BESIDES the aggravation of having to handle these documents differently, have any changes been made to the structure or the contained words?

And offcourse that I delete my files and documents is not an Iweb problem, but because my English is not that good, that I thougt I try to tell the whole story, and hope people can read trough the lines.
Why I didn't use Iweb to upload to the server is because the server company recommanded to use file zilla. And I am a nobody with this kind of things, so I did exactly what they tell me to do.
No, i did not make a backup of Iweb and the domain file, but reading other messages on this forum showed me that I can maybe try to make empty the cashfile (?)
and otherwise I have bad luck and have to make my website again. Offcourse I have a lot of examples from all the pages (copied from the local map to my USB stick) and my website is aprox. 15 Mb, (not so big) so it will cost me a few nigths.
But I'm still hoping on a miracle :-)

Do a malware check with some malware scan programs. You need to scan with all programs because each program detects different malware. Make sure that you update each program to get the latest version of the database before doing a scan.

How do i stop my dell media keys from playing media in itunes

i have a dell inspiron 1545 laptop, it has keys at the top of the keyboard that can be used to play/pause etc media, i have itunes up constantly so i can listen to my music on my computer, but sometimes i want to watch a video using windows media player or realplayer etc, but i can't get them to play a video on there without the video or song i was listening/watching on itunes from starting up again, it's really starting to **** me off
can you please tell me how i can stop the media keys from playing things in itunes so i can just use my other media devices
if you all don't know how i understand, after all steve jobs wanted to be the next bill gates and pretty soon the feds will be on apples *** for trying to create a monopoly too (touch screens have been around since reagan was prez)

Media Key stop working after firmware update on 55...

The media key was working before the upgrade. After I upgraded the firmware, it stopped working.

Did you update using NSU? I have updated mine recently and I have v11.0.054 with custom version 11.0.054.C02.01, language set:22.. and my media key is still working. Am I missing some updates? Nokia Software Update checker says theres is no update yet.

But i got a message "Connection to the Server Failed. Please try to rejoin the call".
We were not getting this problem before installation of anitvirus on our client machine. Now FMS gets down or we can say not accepting connection. Even at that time(server down condition) we can't enter into managment console of FMS. Sometime it start taking connection after one hour or two hour.

I have updated to ios6 and pushed merge instead of don't merge. I have a few apps same as my husbands and now my data is on his ipad, is there any way I can unmerge or anything he can do to stop me taking over his apps?

Marlon I don't believe it is hardware problem. To be honest best way to fix this and test the functionality is to install OS again using Toshiba recovery image. After doing this you will have factory settings and clean preinstalled Vista and everything should work properly again.
You can start installation from HDD using F8 at start-up. All data saved on second partition will be there and you will not lose them.

Media Keys stopped working after upgrading to Yosemite. Tried several things, what to do?

I have a Late 2013 Mac Book Pro. After upgrading to Yosemite, my media keys (F7-F12) seemed to be working funny. They worked sometimes but not during others. A simple web search seems to indicate that Chrome is the culprit which I believe is the case. However, the instructions to disable Chrome from messing with the media keys does not seem to work (as my version of Chrome does not seem to have preferences to allow me to turn off its access to the function keys). The make things weirder, when System Preferences > Keyboard has the "Function Keys" option turned on, the media keys do not work (in fact F11 clears the screen to show the desktop). And when the option is turned off, the media keys work normally as though they are turned on. Additionally, when F11 and F12 are pressed (to lower/raise the volume), it no longer plays "test sound clicks" to indicate the changed volume. I have tried a PRAM reset to no avail.
Any help is appriciated.

For my hard drive that doesn't show up at all, the problem is not Yosemite per se. It's the USB3 driver incompatibility. Try using a USB2 cable (micro USB just like an android charger cable that plugs in half of the slot on your hard drive) and it will work. Or try connecting it to an older computer that has USB2 ports on it (with the original USB3 cable) and it will work BOTH on Yosemite and Mavericks. Of course it will transfer data at USB2 speeds. Apple screwed up the drivers again so we have to wait for them to 1. receive thousands of complaints 2. wait for eternity to acknowledge there's an issue. 3. take their sweet time fixing the USB3 drivers. Until then you can get by with USB2 cables. I hope this helps!

Time Machine taking over my external HD

Is there a way to stop Time Machine from taking over my external HD? I have a 1T for video and photos and previously used Retrospect for the backups. It doesn't do it automatically with the iMac Intel Processor (older version of Retrospect) so I thought Time Machine would be the answer (instead of upgrading Retrospect). However, I am not willing to give up my entire HD to Time Machine - I only want my documents backed up and then the changes to files backed up with the previous backup deleted. Is there any way to do this? I've already excluded all the apps, etc. and still end up with huge backups. And according to the info about Time Machine, it's going to keep taking over the HD until it is full!!! The Retrospect backups for the past 3 months are 3G for the original backup of documents and the current backup.
In 24 hours with Time Machine I already have 75G and counting!!!
Or do I just need to get a 2nd external HD with less memory and dedicate it to Time Machine?

Well, OP is considering this option, and it one way to go TM-dedicated TM external. Really their options depend on how much free space is present on their Mac internal and current external. Disk Utility erase/ partition options will reformat, quite obviously, but even if they have just one external available it is usually possible to backup video and other stored files to say DVD media while they reorganize/ reformat their backup drive.
Another choice is to turn TM off.
Due to the magic of shareware there are now third-party utilities that allow you to alter the frequency of Time Machine Back up.

Media Keys not working

For some reason my media keys (play/pause/fwd/rwd) on my aluminiu keyboard have stopped working.
When I first got the keyboad they didn't work... I installed KeyboardSoftware1.2 and they started working.
But, I'm not sure when or how, they have stopepd working again.
All the other keys (Expose, Brightness etc) work fine.
I have tried reinstalling 10.5.8 combo, repairing permissions, booting in safe mode, repairing disc (from instal dvd), installing and uninstalling sizlingkeys (this allowed me to apply custom settings to other keys, but not to the media keys)....nothing helped!
I can't reinstall the KeyboardSoftware update... as it thinks itis already installed... I tried to bypass it with Pacifist, and this caused a right mess (http://discussions.apple.com/thread.jspa?threadID=2360985&stqc=true) which I still haven't sorted either.
Any ideas??

I took the plunge and did a full Archive & Instal (without copying my files/settings over).
This solved both the Media/Play keys issues... and the weird Save dialogue issue.

However, I consider this as a work around, as I never really found out what caused the issues in the first place!
Oh well....
The only reason I held off doing the Archive and Install in the first place is because it is quite time consuming, especially with a heavily customised Library folders... and I just didn't want to go through the hassle of reinstalling everything!

It sounds like there is an issue with the Mac itself.

Even if you cannot connect by ethernet, at current location.. you can simply disconnect the TC from the network and bring it to the Mac and plug it in by ethernet. The TC can be reset if you haven't got a suitable current setup (save previous setup before you change it) and run just as backup device.. do the backup and then return it to the network.
If this is just a standard incremental backup.. then something has broken. The issue is not the TC pe se but failure in hardware somewhere.

Mac Media Keys Causing Adobe Fireworks Selection Tool Issues?

This issue has been driving me nuts. I've contacted Adobe support, but havn't recieved a response.
For some reason while using Adobe Fireworks CS5 the selection (pointer) tool no longer functions properly. It did at one point.
I have to hold down the mouse and pull the trap lines over any object to get it to select. Not very practicle when you have to select multiple items. All the other tools are working in a wonky manner as well.
I have tried reinstalling the program and running disk repair on my system. No resolve
I have read a ton of forums and users are mention programs like spotify that are causing the conflict. I dont have any of the know programs installed on my mac that people have mentioned.
I have also read that it is itunes media key functionality may be causing the issue?
I know this might be an Adobe issue, just thought I'd reach out and see if anyone has a resolve.

Media Keys working/Volume keys broken

I used to use MultiPlugin by localhost to make the media keys on my keyboard work when iTunes was minimized. This worked great. When I updated iTunes to 7.1, I was pleasantly surprised to find that the media keys worked fully without any plugins. However, after using my computer for a few hours I found that the volume keys performed a "double press" when I was only pressing the buttons once. What happens is that when I try to mute/unmute the system the volume will be muted and immediately unmuted or vice versa. I have narrowed this problem down to iTunes, seeing as when I stop running iTunes, the keys work fine. If anyone has any suggestions please let me know.
