Stop tempo changing speed of audio

So Logic X seems to by default change the speed of audio when you change the tempo. How can you stop this from happening if you don't want it to?

Uncheck Follow Tempo in the Inspector.

  • Beat Mapping is changing speed of audio region, not the metronome!!!

    Hi Everyone,
I just today learned about beat mapping in Logic. I used it on one song that i'd recorded previously without a click track and it worked like a charm. I'm trying to use it on a different song now (same situation: previously recorded with no click) but for some reason with this song, it's changing the speed/length of my audio region to match the metronome instead of changing the speed of the metronome to match the speed of the audio. What's going on?!
    Thanks a bunch.

Well after many hours of searching through Logic Forums and flipping through the Logic Reference Manual, all to no avail, I've finally figured out what the problem was. I needed to uncheck the "Follow Te(mpo)" option in the Region Parameter Box for the region I was trying to beat map. The beat mapping process wasn't actually changing the length/speed of my audio region like I said it was in my initial post; it was simply playing over it slower or faster in order to preserve the audio-to-tempo ratio as I made the tempo slower or faster. All I needed to do was uncheck that little box and now beat mapping works exactly as described in the Reference Manual. WHY ON EARTH is the "Follow Te(mpo)" box not mentioned when discussing beat mapping?! More importantly, why is it not mentioned ANYWHERE in the entire Reference Manual?!?!? NOT ONCE!!! unbelievably frustrating.

  • Audio import changes speed of audio

    Hi,
I am trying to edit and mix sound effects and music for a FLASH animation in ProTools.  After much trial and error I figured out how to make an accurate Quick Time of my FLASH file to spot sounds to in ProTools.  The problem is when I import my audio into FLASH, it speeds up making it out of sync with the picture.  I did several tests and it looks like for ever minute of ProTools the audio in FLASH speeds up 2 frames.  Both programs are running at 24 FPS.
It is not a NTSC vs Flim speed issue.  All other programs read my PT audio file correctly and show it to be the correct length with the SFX where I placed them.  FLASH speeds it up, making my animation not time to the music and effects causing me to painfully resync all my layers.
How do I accurately export a sound file into an AIFF format and import it into FLASH without FLASH changing the speed?  I have my audio set to Stream as it should be.  After 3 minutes my audio is 8 frames (1/3 of a second) out of sync with the picture.  This is totally unacceptable to me and my client.
I am highly versed in ProTools and other video software but am brand new to flash.  Ultimately I want my FLASH timeline to be in sync with my PT timeline.  Thanks in advance for any help you can give.

Thank you for the ideas.  I really want to import a WAV but I can't make FLASH CS5 import it.  It says "One or more files were not imported because there was a problem reading them."  My WAV file is readable by every other program just fine.  I made an AIFF of exactly the same audio with the same export settings in PT and FLASH will import that except it changes the speed by .1432%
*Note:  This is not an NTSC vs FLIM speed issue otherwise it would be eactly .1%.  I am 100% confident my audio file from PT is at film speed and it does import correctly into other programs like Final Cut without speeding up.
I made an export from PT as an MP3 CBR and that audio file speed up even more.  It was over 1/2 second off right from the beginning.  I don't know how to use the Adobe Media Encoder or what an FLV file is but I am sure I could figure it out.  In theory I shouldn't have to do that as FLASH should import audio without changing the speed for any given format.
Again my FLASH setting for the audio file is set to STREAM.
While we are talking about FLASH, I'd like to figure out how to change my timeline to black and white for a given range of frames in the middle of my animation.  How do I set this up so the B&W effect affects all the layers in the stack for a given range of frames?  I am very new to FLASH so you may have to give me exact steps on what to select and how to change it to a movie clip etc... if that is the way to do this.
    Thanks,
    David

  • Changing "speed" of audio interview

I recorded an audio interview with a faulty tape recorder, on playback on a different recorder sounds too slow.  how can i bring the voice back to normal with audition 3?

You could try raising the pitch
In Multitrack view from the main menu select
Effects > Time and Pitch > Pitch Shifter
You will have to experiment and you probably only need to adjust the 'cents' but it depends on how 'slow' the tape was
Edit: DOH! Just realised you were after Au3 but it took me all this time to reinstall my Au3 as I had recently replaced my hard drive
Anyway its much the same in Au3 except in Multitrack view you click on the fx rack in the channel strip first and in Edit view its Effects > Time and Pitch > Pitch Shifter

  • Error while trying to synchronize Audio and MIDI across tempo change

Audio was recorded through a Focusrite Scarlett 2i2 before GB updated itself. Now any audio file that runs across a tempo change automation is painfully distorted and throws this error (With assorted different sample rates depending on when GB decides to throw up a dialogue box.)
I've tried switching the output back to core audio but that isn't helping.
Am I going to have to rerecord all these parts of audio or is there some way to make GB remember what it was doing with its sample rates?
This is on OSX 10.9.5 on a retina MBP, Garageband 10.0.3. It was working fine before the update.

try deleting all midi instruments and the metronome object from your environment if you don't need them..

  • Tempo changing audio files

What is the best way to slow down or speed up audio in Logic 8?
    follow tempo isnt always available,
    Hope someone can help,
    Cheers
    Bongolian

    Hey,
I'm not sure about L8, but in L7 the follow tempo is only availabe if the audio was recorded in that particular song, (meaning not Imported).
    Easy solution:
Bounce down the audio track and then use the bounced track in your song. The follow tempo will be available.
    Cheers

  • MS 2.1 'Does not support importing files containing tempo changes' message

OK, so I've just loaded up the 2.1 upgrade and opened up a couple of existing concerts, and I get the following message:
    +File contains tempo changes+
+One or more of the files you are importing contains tempo change markers. This version of mainstage does not support importing files with tempo changes.+
It's a bit of a problem as the dialogue box appears several times during loading, and I have to click 'OK' every time, which adds to the length of time it takes to load up the concert (something I do several times during the course of my set).
I'm not using any MIDI stuff, just acoustic and electric guitar plus vocal channel strips and playback channels.
I've tried out some of my backing tracks, which have a ralletando at the back end, and they still seem to slow down properly (which isn't surprising, as they are audio files), and I've also tried setting all the sets back to the concert tempo, which hasn't stopped the issue occurring.
    Any thoughts, anyone?

    Hi Blueberry
Well, if you mean I put a tempo curve at the end of some of my audio files in Logic, in order to slow down at the end of the song, then, yes, I did do that. However, that still works in MS2.1, and anyway, why would that no longer be allowed, as that is an essential musical function. Also, if the upgrade meant I had to re-do the exporting nearly 200 backing tracks, them I'm afraid it would be back to 2.01 for me.
Furthermore, I tried starting MS up in 32 bit, and that didn't make any difference either.
As it is, this problem is (so far) only an inconvenience as it takes longer for me to load a new concert. What I'd like to understand is what does it refer to? and how can I prevent it showing this message?
    Thanks

  • Apple loop not responding to tempo changes

apple loops that have been created from an audio file in the arrange window do not respond to tempo changes. when i had logic 7 there would be a change in the audio file from an audio to an apple loop icon. this is not happening w/ logic 8 although it appears to be saved in the apple loop window but still i have no access to changes being made there as well. what is thew problem?

  • Setting the project tempo to match an audio region

The manual is pretty clear on how to do this but it talks in terms of one bar audio regions vs. an entire song. I'm trying to do a remix of a song that has subtle although very definate tempo variances throughout. The audio file of the original is imported into Logic and I've tried Options>Tempo>Adjust Tempo using Region Length and Locators but it's giving me one global tempo which does not match up when I compare the audio file to the click. It's not telling me where the tempo changes occur in my tempo track either. I'm wondering if it's even possible to do this. I could beatmap it? I don't know. Should be an easy thing to do.
I suppose a workaround could be to bus the audio file to an aux and then record that aux's output like I was recording it live but that seems like overkill.

The best tool for this is the beatmapping track. It's pretty easy to do, depending on your material, and it will conform Logic's clock to your audio's tempo, with appropriate tempo changes.
Once you beatmapped your track, Logic is in sync with it and you can then add sequences and use quantize etc.
If you are not sure how beat mapping works, shout back...

  • Speed adjustment/audio?

This should be another easy one.
Whenever I select a clip to edit and change the speed from anything other than 100% (normal) the speed changes but the audio goes away.
I want to speed up or slow motion the clip but I want to keep the audio as well.
What minor step am I overlooking?
    Thank You

They say that people do their best thinking while lying in bed waiting to fall asleep...or while laying there in the morning. That's what happened to me, my friend.
Here is what came to my mind. Awhile back I was talking to an Apple rep and when we (actually he) could not get to the bottom of an issue here is what he had me do to my Mac.
    1. Create a new User account if you only have one account.
    2. Close any open applications on your dock.
    3. Reboot your Mac.
    4. Log in under your new User name.
    4. Open iMovie and (because there will be no data there) go to Photo Booth and shoot yourself for about 10 seconds.
    5. Use this new project as your edit for a new movie.
    6. Change the speed of your clip as you tried to do in your original User account and play it at 50% 100% or 150% (whatever).
*7. You will find that everything plays as it should. And it does!*
    8. Reboot you Mac and log back in under your original User name.
    9. Open iMovie and select a clip and change the speed and see if you NOW can here the audio as well as view the speed change.
    *10. Jackpot.....AppleMan.*
Ok, that was while I was asleep, but I never would have learned how to find the codec and/or the other stuff if it wasn't for you.
    Best Regards Always

  • Trouble shooting changing speed

Not able to change speed in Final cut express.  Telling me there was a problem during a trim operation.  Anyone run across this?  Thanks

This can happen when the speed change moves the content of the timeline and tracks, usually the audio tracks, collide. There are various ways around this. You can use the F key to match frame to the browser clip, apply the speed change to that, and edit it into the timeline. With the playhead at the start of the clip you can press Cmd-Opt-F to call up a new copy of the clip from the hard drive, apply the speed change there, and then end into the timeline. The last way some people use is to drag the clip to the end of the timeline, apply the speed change there, and then move back into the timeline however you like.

  • Tempo changes - can't move them when I delete bars or beats

I have written in many tempo changes in a project, both immediate changes and drawn curves to create rallentandos. I then decide to eliminate a few bars, say, in the middle of the piece, then shift all the regions together where the deleted bars have left a gap.
When I move the regions, the tempo automation does not move.
How can I move tempo changes to match the bars I've just deleted?

I have not done this for a while, but I think you need to hit "select all" in the arrange window and then use the cut/insert time command in the track menu to do your cutting. That should move everything appropriately.

  • Tempo change for a sample

I'm having trouble matching the tempo of a sample song to match the drum loops. I tried to use the "Adjust tempo using region length and locators" but it does not give an accurate tempo for the song. I just need the sample to match the loops, any thought?

    Hi,
if you have a longer part, you can use the plugin metering->BPM counter to check which tempo your sample song has. Now, you can open up the sample editor and use time&pitch machine to make an adjustment between the original tempo and your desired target tempo. However, you'll need to fit your edited sample song to the drum groove, so after you have done the rough tempo change, enable flex mode, change to flex view and drag the waveform around so that the transients hit each other exactly at the same beat - you can use flex view to do the fine tuning.

  • I have verified my new email address as my Apple ID but my IOS devices keep asking me to sign in to my previous email/Apple ID but have no access to it.  How can I stop or change this?

I have verified my new email address as my Apple ID but my IOS devices keep asking me to sign in to my previous email/Apple ID but have no access to it.  How can I stop or change this?

To change the iCloud ID you have to go to Settings>iCloud, tap Delete Account, provide the password for the old ID when prompted to turn off Find My iDevice, then sign back in with the ID you wish to use.  When you do this you may find that the password for your old ID isn't accepted.  If this should happen, and if your old ID is an earlier version of your current ID, you need to temporarily recreate your old ID by going to https://appleid.apple.com, click Manage my Apple ID and sign in with your current iCloud ID.  Click edit next to the primary email account, change it back to your old email address and save the change.  You can now use your current password to turn off Find My iDevice on your device, even though it prompts you for the password for your old account ID. Then save any photo stream photos that you wish to keep to your camera roll.  When finished go to Settings>iCloud, tap Delete Account and choose Delete from My iDevice when prompted (your iCloud data will still be in iCloud).  Next, go back to https://appleid.apple.com and change your primary email address back to the way it was.  Now you can go to Settings>iCloud and sign in with your current iCloud ID and password.

  • How can i stop itunes changing manually typed in genres when playing a track?

    hi,
for a long time, itunes has been changing genre information that i typed in manually when playing a track, example giving "soundtrack" to "Filmmusik" or "rock" to "Rock" (i prefer lower case letters). until upgrading to itunes 11, it was able to edit the localizable.strings file and set the predefined genres to lowercase and "Filmmusik" to "soundtrack" and so on. now i had to install itunes 11 to run my new ipod, and the localizable.strings file looks quite different. it doesn't seem to be the file now where the necessary updates have to be done.
therefore, first question is if anyone can tell me where i can find the predefined genres and update them? then i will have a workaround at least.
actually, i would prefer to stop itunes changing track information in any case. i've spend more than a year to import all my cd's and used lots of time to have reliable track informations. i don't want the software to change my data without me committing any change. also, even worse, itunes updates the aac-file itself as well. i used to use the last updated information as a criteria in intelligent playlists, but itunes makes it impossible to get the expected result with its unwanted updates.
so, any help will be aprreciated. in case it should matter, i have an imac with os x 10.6.8. the problem seems to occur only in itunes, when i play the tracks on my ipod, the information remains unchanged. and since i read about similar problems with songs from the itunes store - all my tracks are imported from cd manually.
    regards,
    andi

Dependent upon which view you are using to look at the album, they will be playing in the "view" order. For example, in the screenshot below, in the Songs view, I have a view of an album like this, while the song "Follow Me" is playing:
Look carefully at the picture and you will notice that the sort order for this view is in "reverse Last Played order", and if you now look at the Track No. column, you will notice that "Follow Me" is track 12, the last one on the album. If you also look at the Up Next list, you can see every track from the album, in the same order as they appear in the main window, so it will play in reverse order.
To play this album in the correct track order, I simply click on the Track No. column header (so that the arrow is pointing up) and then select the track at the top of the list, track 1, "Sunset Song". Look at this screenshot:
Notice that now, the tracks in the Up Next list are in track order and the album will play in the correct order.
