Stop the built-in mic's input level from decreasing during videochat?

No matter how many times my girlfriend sets her Late 2008 15" MBP's built-in mic's input level to max, the input level always decreases on its own during our videochat sessions.
Since the level decreases more when she watches loud videos during our videochat sessions, I'm thinking the input level is auto-adjusting itself to the increase in noise level or something.
I've googled and search the discussion forums to no avail.
If anyone knows how to stop this auto-adjusting thing from happening, I'm all ears.

Hi,
I have seen a couple of threads on this now.
The iChat 4 "Fix" does not seem to work.
Deleting the other .plist to do with Audio in that Audio folder in Snow Leopard also doe not help.
I have only seen it posted about internal mic on iMacs and laptops.
However I do not suffer from it myself.
I have tried changing an Audio setting and comparing the Date Modified column items to see if anything gets changed.
The SystemPreferences.plist in my Home Folder list that I opened the Sound preferences but not the settings.
None of the Audio .plists are showing any change. (in Hard Drive/Library/Preferences)
At the moment I am mystified as to where any setting is stored.

    I want to be able to use airplay to stream audio to another iOS device, and then use that audio stream to be used when recording video instead of the built in microphone / microphone input. Is this possible?

    A third-party app probably cannot obtain a stream from another app. To the best of my knowledge, such a capability is not provided in the software development kit, apps being "sandboxed" from each other and so allowed to communicate only in very specific and limited ways.
    I'm not completely sure what you mean by "limitations on video capture". An iPhone, to the best of my knowledge, can natively record video only through it's built-in camera, and audio while doing video recording only through the built-in microphone or mic/headphone jack. There might be a video recording app that would allow audio input from an external device connected to the dock connector, but I'm not sure.
    Regards.

  • Does the iMac have an AUDIO IN besides from the built-in mic?

    Does the iMac have an AUDIO IN aside from the built-in mic?
    Also, are any special cables needed?
    Thanks,

    Hi
    You should be able to check by going to about this mac from the Apple menu. Then click the more info button and then the system report button. Next, click on audio tab to the left. If you don't have an entry for built in input then you probably don't have line-in in your mac. As already mentioned though you should be able to defiantly find out with the model and year.
    Hope this helps

  • Warbled sound using the built in mic on a Macbook Pro

    Hello all,
    I just got Logic 8 and I'm still in the testing/experiment stages. Right now I'm simply recording my voice, through the *built in mic*, on my Macbook Pro. I'm recording at 192k, 24 bit to test out the sample rate differences and quality of sound. In my audio settings, on my macbook pro, I noticed that it only goes up to 96k. I'm getting audio overload messages, in Logic, and it sounds to me there is a slight "warbled" sound in the recording. Very much like the way a cheap mp3 sounds, underwatery/warbled/cheap. It's subtle but I can detect it.
    Is this because the I'm using the internal mic?
    Do I need to match my audio settings, on my computer, to Logic's sample rate settings?
    Is that why I'm getting audio overload warnings and the distortion?
    Any input will help.
    Thanx in advance
    TTW

    The built in mic in your MBP probably costs a dime. It's completely useless for recording except maybe as a quick sketchpad for remembering a melody. They put it in for Skype/iChat purposes, not for professional recording. A more or less decent microphone is at least $100, plus you'll need a proper interface with a mike preamp to connect it to your Mac. Even then, the chances that you'll hear a discernable difference between 44.1 kHz/96/192 are slight.

  • Is there a keyboard shortcut to activate / deactivate the built in mic?

    Is there a keyboard shortcut to activate / deactivate the built in mic?

    Ah somewhat confusing. Your question seemed to indicate you were looking for a way to disable the mic, not that it wasn't working with some apps.
    Have you tried any of the Apple apps, Garage Band or Dictation? Do they work? If the input volume indicator under the mic in  System Preferences is moving in response to your voice then the problem is not that the mic is disabled or muted, the sound is getting into the system.
    Does the Input Volume move while you have one of the non-working apps opened? Have you installed any 3rd party sound apps or kernel extensions?
    Are the mic settings in Audio MIDI setup 44100.0 HZ and 2ch-24 bit?
    I would start by seeing if the mike works with one of the apps I mentioned above or download something like Audacity: Free Audio Editor and Recorder to test it out.

    here is a sample code .
    so far you procedure looks good but
    i bet you have to specify the name of report , instead of 'filename'.
    see this
    Plist_id := GET_PARAMETER_LIST('P_name');
    IF NOT ID_NULL(Plist_id) THEN
    DESTROY_PARAMETER_LIST(Plist_id);
    END IF;
    Plist_id := CREATE_PARAMETER_LIST('P_name');
    ADD_PARAMETER( Plist_id, 'P_Receive_date', TEXT_PARAMETER, TO_CHAR(Receive_date,'mm/dd/yyyy'));
    ADD_PARAMETER( Plist_id, 'P_Hearing_date', TEXT_PARAMETER, TO_CHAR(Hearing_date,'mm/dd/yyyy'));
    ADD_PARAMETER( Plist_id, 'P_Hearing_time', TEXT_PARAMETER, TO_CHAR(Hearing_time,'mm/dd/yyyy'));
    ADD_PARAMETER( Plist_id, 'P_Issue_date', TEXT_PARAMETER, TO_CHAR(Issue_date,'mm/dd/yyyy'));
    ADD_PARAMETER( Plist_id, 'P_Workshop_date', TEXT_PARAMETER, TO_CHAR(Workshop_date,'mm/dd/yyyy'));
    -- RUN_PRODCT(REPORTS,'..\Reports\Pro_License',SYNCHRONOUS, RUNTIME, FILESYSTEM, Plist_id, NULL);
    -- here Pro_License is the name of report.
    did you tried to see if the parameter passed using a message ?
    try
    message('parameter name'); pause; write this before "run_report".

  • Using the built in mic.

    I would like to use the built in mic of the mac to make some audio recordings (television, talk, and sound from laptop speakers).
    Could anyone please recommend the quickest and easiest way to do this?
    I would rather not download any more software if possible and certainly cant buy anymore for the moment. I also dont have quicktime pro, just the standard free version that comes with the computer.
    Thanks

    You can use Garage Band, which is part of iLife that comes with the Mac. Tell it to create a Podcast, then add a new Real Instrument Track (+ at left center), and click the Record button.

  • In System prefs I don't have the built in mic as a choice. How can I get it back?

    Hi can anyone tell me how to get the built in mic to show up in Sounds in Sys Prefs?  Right now all I get is "line in... built in audio".

  • Mute the built-in mic

    My MBA has a built-in mic. I want to capture a streaming audio from time to time that is coming in on Safari. I can use QTPro to do this but unfortunately it also captured on the same track the background noise coming through on the MBAs built-in Mic.
    Is there a way to "mute" the built-in mic? I cannot see anything on the Sound preference panel/

    Hmm, after further review. I think what is happening is that QTPro is only recording the built-in mic - actually listening to the speaker output and then capturing that and not the streaming what is coming through the "sound card" directly. I can stream and hear it with the built-in mic muted, but it will not record. Hmm.
    Any suggestions?

  • Samson C01U usb mic/low input level

    I recently bought a Samson C01U usb condenser mic to use with Garageband to record voice and piano for my music studio. When I plug it in, it is recognized in system preferences/Sound. But when I try to record in Garageband, the input level monitor barely responds. I've selected Mono 1, as advised by tech support at Samson. I can't figure out why this mic isn't working, since it's recommended for this exact purpose. I don't think I should need a pre amp, but now am wondering if I do. I'd be so grateful for any advice.
    KM

    You know, the Samson C01U worked ok with the SoftPre software from Samsontech under Tiger. The input levels could be bumped up sufficiently for the **** thing to actually work even if the input signal was still on the low side.
    Since SoftPre doesn't work with Leopard, the C01U is basically an expensive paperweight.
    Since Samsontech seem incapable of getting their act together in putting out an operational Leopard compatible SoftPre software release, my advice to the wider Mac community is to BOYCOTT THEM! If Samsontech aren't receptive to consumer needs and flexible enough to act accordingly when the OS is updated, they deserve to suffer the commercial consequences - period!
    I'm looking forward to the liberating ritual of taking a giant sledgehammer and obliterating my now useless, overpriced Samson C01U. It's going to be awesome !

  • Where is the built in Mic on my G5?

    sorry to sound so stupid, but where is the built in microphone on my G5 located?
    TIA everyone

    Hi-
    There are a couple of ways to get line in.
    One, the versatile iMic. Still need a microphone.....
    Use a self powered microphone like this DRK.
    If you just need a mic for use with a webcam, get a USB webcam that has a mic built in. Plenty good....
    Also the line in port, is it located at the back of the tower and presumably has a small 'mic' type icon located next to the port?
    On the rear, yes. Mic icon, no.
    The G5 tower has a rear mounted "optical digital audio in Toslink connector" and a "stereo audio in minijack".
    This is where you would connect a preamp or amplifier, so that you could use standard microphones.
    I use an iMic. Good for connecting my turntable, and for connecting a mic to add voiceover.......
