Stop users saving completed PDFs from their browsers.

Hi,
We are rendering PDF eforms in a browser using LiveCycle and submitting user-entered data back to the server. We have set the Reader Extensions 'Basic form fill-in' option in the LiveCycle WorkBench orchestration so they can fill in the fields but have discovered that if they Ctrl-S they can save a copy locally which includes their filled in data.  We do not want them to be able to do this.
How can we allow users to fill in forms in their browser and submit but not save locally?
Thanks,
Kieran

But there are some things we need to reader extend such as:
Import and export form data
Submit outside web browser
Database and web service connectivity
But are you saying that if we don't enable:
Basic form fill-in
which the documentation describes as:
Users can fill in form fields and save files locally
Then they will still be able to fill in the form fields but not save the form?  If so this is not very clear from the description.  Why not have 'Fill in form fields' and 'Save files locally' as seperate reader extension options?
Thanks.

  • When saving a PDF from a FrameMaker book, is it possible to set document filenames as bookmarks in the PDF?

When saving a PDF from a FrameMaker book, is it possible to set document filenames as bookmarks in the PDF? Currently when I have a Framemaker book that I want to save as a PDF, I choose Save Book As and then choose PDF for the file format. A dialog box comes up in which I can choose the Bookmarks tab and choose which tagged content I want to be made into bookmarks in the PDF file. What if I would rather have the filename of a document rather than the chapter title be a bookmark in the PDF? Is that possible? Where would I choose that option? Thanks!

There are two ways that you could do this. You can either use postscript text frames and enter the correct pdfmark entries to show the file name with the corresponding actions (i.e. where to go in the PDF) or you can use hidden text in FM and the "Filename (Short) " variable in a unique paratag to be picked up by FM's bookmark creation.
To go the pdfmark route, see http://www.pdflib.com/fileadmin/pdflib/pdf/pdfmark_primer.pdf for details and also consult the Adobe Pdfmark Reference manual (http://www.adobe.com/content/dam/Adobe/en/devnet/acrobat/pdfs/pdfmark_reference.pdf).
The hidden text route would use FM's Color Views to specify a colour as Invisible. This will make the content visually disappear from the screen (and any output), but FM will still be able to read the contents of any text that is coloured with the Invisible colour(s).
    1. Pick or create a colour that you want to be invisible. [Magenta is usually a good bet and stands out visually].
    2. Set that colour to be invisible in View 1 and visible in View 6. [you can use the shortcut <esc> v 1 and <esc> v 6 to toggle between the views.]
    3. Create a paratag to use for the filename and set the font colour to use the invisible colour.
    3. In the title of each chapter file, drop an anchored frame that is set to be outside of the text frame [so it won't interfere with any other content].
    4. In that AFrame, insert a text frame and use the invisible paratag defined in step 3.
    5. Insert the Filename (Short) variable in that text frame.
    6. Repeat steps for all files to be included in the bookmarks.
When creating the PDF bookmarks, select only the paratag used for the invisible colour.
Don't forget to toggle the View to be invisible (i.e. <esc> v 1  - this also works at the book level for all files in the book).

  • Trouble saving a pdf from In Design with Illustrator files linked.

I have trouble saving a pdf from In Design. Most of the files i've linked are Illustrator files with size up to 70mb.
I am getting out of memory message   The In Design file isn't that big - about 9mb.
    HELP!!!!!!

It did not help to close and reopen it.
Not sure what you mean with exporting in chunks but if you mean exporting page for page , so it didn't work either.
I think that i'll try to reduce the size of Illustrator files , but I 'm not sure what will be the optimum size for that In Design won't crush again.
Or maybe i should make the presentation in illustrator instead? It take some time to save pdf from illustrator when the original file is about 90mb, but still it works.

  • Can I use Reader X to draw freeform lines on documents I "saved as PDF" from Word?

I would like to use the feature described as follows on the Adobe website: "Review documents with a complete set of commenting tools such as sticky notes, highlighting, lines, shapes, and stamps."
According to the website, Adobe Reader X can use this feature if the PDF has had that option enabled when it was created in more full-featured version of Acrobat.
I would like to know, Does a document that I've saved as a PDF from Word (using Save As) count as having that feature enabled?
    Thank you,
    James

With PDF files created using Word(Save As), you can only add sticky notes and use highlighting.
You will have to use Adobe ACrobat to create a PDF with has Commenting enabled for Reader also.

  • Saving a PDF from a site

    Hello,
When I save a PDF from the web and click "Save As", there is a line in the box that says "save to online account". There is no option to remove that (check box etc.).  Does this mean that my files are being saved somewhere online?  I do not want that at all (still refusing the Cloud )!
Thank you so much in advance for the help!

You can save the file to local disc. You don't need use a online account.

  • "stopped" status while creating pdf from AI

Hi, my friend taught me a way (to "print" pdf) to create PDF from illustrator that could make the file size much smaller, but now my question is, it works in my macbook (ppd version 1.1) but not my desktop imac (ppd version 1.0), the printer status always jump to stopped during the process of creating the PDF, anyone got any idea why? is it because of ppd version different? where can i donwload the latest ppd version. Many Thanks.

    What is the LiveCycle version?
Is it possible for you to share an example(somewhere on public file sharing sites)?

  • Colors change when saving to PDF from InDesign

I admittedly don't understand color handling, no matter how much I seem to read about it. Lately my files that I've been exporting to PDF from Indesign have looked slightly different and odd to me once they're converted to PDF. Sometimes the colors are dull, sometimes the drop shadows are a weird grey... Here's the latest example. Perhaps someone has some wisdom for me here...
I created this poster in Illustrator. Here's how it looks in Illustrator:
Then I went into Indesign and linked the file. (this is strange...) When I display the file with "typical display", it displays as such:
That looks pretty good... But when I set the display to "high quality display", I get this:
This is also the result I get when I open the exported file in Adobe Acrobat Pro. Why the color change?
    Any ideas?
    Thanks!

    Thanks, Will...
So, upon investigating, I realized that my color space in Illustrator was RGB... Damn... I must have overlooked that... When I convert (in Illustrator) to CMYK, I get those strange colors again.
When I export to PDF, the Output is "no color conversion", so it's not being converted to CMYK yet...
Plus, I just linked the AI files in Indesign when I placed them in there.
So, Indesign must be converting the file to CMYK? And that's why the colors change once I convert to PDF? What do you think?
Also, I used InDesign to place the files so that I could create a 2-page pdf easily that the printer could work with. I had a 4-up handbills page in there that I was planning on printing as well.
So, if this looks best in RGB, what do you think about me sending an RGB file to the printer and then printing it that way? I've been told that RGB is no good for printing, but I've also read otherwise as well...
    Thanks again!!

  • 3 users sharing itunes on 1 imac. How does everyone's library listing refresh when all 3 users are loading music from their own screens?

3 users sharing itunes in shared folder on one imac computer. What can we do to "refresh" our individual library listing to list music loaded by other 2 users? We listen to books in the car via ipods. How can books I have loaded show up on other 2 library listings and vice-versa? Had a couple of instances where 2 of us loaded the same book because we didn't know the other had already loaded it!!!

It sounds like you are using individual libraries (each user has library files in their iTunes folder) but shared media.  iTunes doesn't have an active way of scanning a shared media folder for new additions.  You will just have to tell each other that something has been added to each person can add the media information to their libraries.  The only other ways I know of are to using a single user library (many disadvantages to that too, especially with 3 of you), or to use Home Sharing which also has disadvantages.

  • Using data from a spreadsheet, how can I create multiple completed PDFs from a form template?

Note that I am completely new to adobe acrobat.
I have a form template for a completion certificate for students who take a summer workshop where I'm working. It includes data such as their name and the program they completed. I have all the necessary information for each student in an excel spread sheet. Rather than sit here and enter data into the form 300+ times, I want to automate the process. I'd like to be able to specify the spread sheet and either have acrobat just print out all 300, or save them as seperate files so I can print them easily.
    Thanks for the help!

Thanks for the response! I'd be interested in writing a script for it (I've actually been researching it a bit already). I'm completely new to Javascript (and scripting) but have a fair level of experience with c/c++ so I feel it shouldn't be too bad. I'll ask here for now, just let me know if I should ask a new question on the scripting forum instead.
I've looked at the Acrobat JavaScript API Reference (http://www.adobe.com/content/dam/Adobe/en/devnet/acrobat/pdfs/js_api_reference.pdf) a bit but am having trouble finding a way to read the spreadsheet's data in (I was planning on using a csv file). I found Doc.importTextData(), which can parse a tab delimited file and from the sounds of it fill in the forms automatically (though I would much prefer a c style file interface that lets me write the parsing logic). Every time I try to call importTextData it returns -1 though, which means "Warning: User Canceled File Select". When I call it direct from the JavaScript Debug Console I just get a -1, but when I have it execute when I save I get "NotAllowedError: Security settings prevent access to this property or method.". I did a bit of research on that and modified my script to look like:
    Autofill = app.trustedFunction(
        function ()
            app.trustedFunction(importTextData);
            app.beginPriv();
            var result = this.importTextData("test.csv", 0);
            app.endPriv();
            return result;
I've also tried running Acrobat as an administrator, but I still get the same error. I could just not be understanding privileges correctly.
    My overall plan was:
for each row in the spreadsheet
            - read the row in from the file
            - fill out the fields in the PDF using the read data
            - save the file with a new file name.
If there is a better method to do this, just let me know.
    Thanks again for your time!

  • Issues with end users saving fillable pdf's.

I created a fillable form via Adobe XI Pro.  Just some standard radio buttons and text areas.  Some users after filling in the form when they save the file it erases everything they filled in.  I cannot control the version of adobe the end user has on their system, is there anything I can do.  I am not even sure if that is the problem as it seems to only happen 20% of the time the form is sent out.  I confirmed with the last user that encountered this problem that their system has Acrobat XI v11.0.06.

The original one I sent is the base document I send out.  Attached is the
last set I received where client said they completed but when saved it
    erased all the entries.

  • Reset PDF bookmarks when saving as PDF from structured FM - Book 11.0 with fm components (*.book).

    Hi,
I've read the forum discussions/solutions on setting PDF bookmarks, but I'm afraid the various solutions appear to only work if you are consistently working in .fm book files, not if your source files are in structured .fm format.
For example, I have to constantly reset the bookmark settings in FrameMaker when I follow our PDF process of saving the structured FM files via the File -> Save Ditamap As -> Book 11.0 with fm components (*.book) route. I can set the bookmarks in the first file of the book, and/or set them using the Format -> Document -> PDF Setup menu options. But an hour later, if I discover I need to make a change in our source material (.ditamap/.xml) and create a new PDF again, I must make the same exact bookmark settings at the .fm level in this process (i.e. creating new .fm files from the .ditamap/xml files overwrites the previous .fm files, requiring bookmark setting, again).
I think the only possible solution for a short-cut in this situation is to write a script to set those bookmarks each time we go from .xml to .fm. Does anyone see another way around this?
    Thanks!
    Diana

    Hi Diana...
You're right that only FM binary files can store PDF setup information (in theory XML files could store this data, but that's not the way it's currently set up). In order to have this data available in files generated from XML, you'll need to set it up in the structure application template(s). You also need to make sure that all files in the book use the same tag names. The following topic was written for DITA-FMx users, but the concept should apply to regular FM-DITA as well ..
    http://docs.leximation.com/dita-fmx/2.0/?ditafmx_setuppdfbookmarks.html
    I hope that helps.

  • Stop user accessing portal pages from book marks(favourites)

    Hi,
Scenario... a user can log into portal and set pages as book marks in their browser (favourites), then close the ssession(and browser); then reopen the browser and access the page from the book mark, portal forces the user to log in (which is good) but I don't want them to have access to the page book marked, I want them to be always sent to the main page instead.
Is it possible to stop this happening.
    Thanks in anticipation
    DG

    Hi,
I am afraid this cant be done. The only thing is that the user will be forced to login.
    Thanks,

  • Saving a PDF from Safari via Applescript

Hello. I’m an Applescript neophyte and have run into a problem I cannot seem to solve and no amount of Google searches has found an answer for me. It seems a simple thing to do, but I cannot get Safari (5.1, Lion) to save a PDF that is loaded as the result of a script. The relevant portion of the script is this
    tell application "Safari"
save document 2 in file pdfDLNAME
    end tell
In this example pdfDLNAME is a fully specified path, something like this:
    Sarkany:Users:fenevad:Dropbox:Personal:Heenan_book:downloads:1776-07-18_New-York -Journal_page-3_4.pdf
Every time I try this it fails, regardless of whether the file exists or not. I get this error (allowing for changes in the variable value) in Safari:
The document “New-York, July 18” could not be saved as “1776-07-18_New-York-Journal_page-3_4.pdf”. The file doesn’t exist.
This result then causes problems for the AppleScript, which cannot procede as it should.
So the question I have is how simply to save a PDF loaded in Safari to a specified path location. I've seen some people suggest scripting the UI, but that is a pain when I have to determine the location for the download based on the script’s results.
Apologies if the answer is obvious to scripters, but it isn't obvious to me or to someone with more experience helping me.
    Best regards,
    Arle Lommel

    arle lommel wrote:
That would probably be fine except that I need to save the file to a specified location based on other factors in the script and that location is not the same each time. I.e., saving to the desktop isn't really an option.
The previous script can easily be modified in order to do what you are asking for. Let's suppose for example that you want to save the PDF file to a folder named "Downloaded PDFs" in your Documents folder, under the name "A new PDF file.pdf":
set theFileName to "A new PDF file.pdf"
set theDestination to ((path to home folder) as text) & "Documents:Downloaded PDFs" as alias
    tell application "Safari"
        activate
tell application "System Events" to tell process "Safari"
keystroke "s" using command down -- save as…
            delay 0.5
            keystroke theFileName
            delay 0.5
keystroke "d" using command down -- save on desktop
            keystroke return -- save
            delay 0.5
if sheet 1 of sheet 1 of window 1 exists then
click button 1 of sheet 1 of sheet 1 of window 1 -- replace
            end if
        end tell
    end tell
tell application "Finder" to move file theFileName of desktop to theDestination with replacing
Is there a reason why Safari can't use the save action?
Safari is only partially scriptable. It's not impossible that it can use the save action though. I just don't know how to do it.

  • Saving as PDF from Excel looks different to Excel version

    Hi
I have been working in Excel and been saving PDF files for the past year using the inbuilt feature in Excel. I have recently installed Adobe Acrobat so that I could save PDFs directly from Excel instead. When I save exactly the same file from Excel, the adobe acrobat PDF looks different to the excel PDF version.
I have uploaded an image to show you what I mean.
    http://tinypic.com/view.php?pic=1z1ux6d&s=8
The image on the left is the correct version, this version was saved using the "Save As PDF" option built into excel. The image on the right is the version saved with the Excel acrobat add-in. You can notice how the font is different on acrobat version, the part where it says "Date" and "Description. You will also notice the black lines above the little card icons do not go right to the end of the line like they should. Each of of them little card icons is a seperate image, does Acroboat have trouble converting these little images or something as they appear fine on the Excel version.
Is there anything that can be done so converting it to PDF will look closer to how its suppose to look?

I checked the properties of each file. The Excel PDF version has more fonts listed in the properties section compared to the PDF maker one. I can select the "Date" and "description" and copy and paste it as text but now it appears the text is fine, its showing correctly now even though I havent changed anything.
The icon problem is still there though.
I have also attached another image of a close up of the little card icons:
    http://tinypic.com/view.php?pic=nqac9j&s=8
The version on the right is correct, created within the built in PDF feature in Excel. The version on the left, created with the Excel pdf maker addin.
