Stop Web Clipping's CSS effect on rest of portal

Is there any way to prevent a web-clipping's cascading style sheet from effecting the rest of the portal around it? I already have a CSS that I want to use. It is currently being replaced by the page I am clipping onto my portal page.

Check if it happens with IE 7.0 only. If this is the case, you are hitting the issue document in Metalink Note [418435.1|http://metalink.oracle.com/metalink/plsql/ml2_documents.showDocument?p_database_id=NOT&p_id=418435.1]

  • How do I stop Quicktime grabbing my web clips?

    I recently installed Web Clips as part of Google Desktop and began receiving feeds to download podcasts - so far so good. When I click on the daily podcast, Mozilla pops up a box asking me if I want to save or open the file (and with what application). I click to save it on the Desktop then copy the file to my PDA for listening later. Perfect! BUT then I wanted to buy an MP3 album which I could only find on iTunes, so I had to install iTunes to visit the iTunes store. I didn't ASK for Quicktime, but that downloaded, too. Now, when I click on my podcast in WebClips, the Quicktime logo briefly appears and something similar to a new browser window opens, with a graphic like you get in Quicktime/Media Player to show where you're at in the clip (but no other settings). There's no way to get rid of this or to save the file. I've tried going into Quicktime and iTunes and unchecking any box that would make it act as the default for just about everything but it still persists in grabbing the podcast. The only way I can stop it is to completely uninstall Quicktime AND iTunes - so I'm back to not being able to use the iTunes store again. I thought only Microsoft was capable of this 'you-have-to-use- our-product-or-else' arrogance.

    Yes, I deleted all the websites and reset everything to "ask" except p2p which I turned off.
    Whenever I first go to any page with flash content (from reboot) my webcam becomes powered - note I don't mean that it is actually recording but of course there's no way you can tell that when the light comes on.
    This phenomenon only started with the current flash update.

  • Web Clips Doesn't Work

    I recently purchased a MacBook, running Mac OS X 10.5 Leopard. One cool feature I've discovered is Web Clips. I began using this feature right away. I made a Web Clip of the Apple Main Page, used it for a while, then deleted it. After this, I was unable to get Web Clips to work again. I'm not sure why. I did install the 10.5.1 update between these instances, and I don't have any Style Sheets, as other posts indicated. Any Help Would Be Appreciated. Thanks.

    Web Clips has stopped working for me too. Now I clip the web page, the Widget screens come to the front but no new Widget appears on screen. If I click the Widget set-up cross (can't remember what it's called - sorry) at the bottom left of the screen I can the close X for all the normal Widgets plus one for what I assume is the newly-created web widget, but that's all there is: a close X; no frame or anything else visible.
    I created a new user account and tried it there and it works fine. I tried deletling the web-widget plist file as described elsewhere but this made no difference. Puzzling.
    Thanks.

  • Browser preferences - web clip incompatible with pop-ups?

    Hi,
    I'm a newbie to iOS & Safari and I've haven't been able to work out the following:
    I use a web-browser client app for work.
    Since it is an app (with its own built-in navigation), I'd like to clear up space on my screen and use Safari in Full-Screen Mode.
    I've therefore created what I believe is called a "Web Clip" (to add an icon with a direct link to the apps' login screen on my desktop/start screen).
    When I double-click on this link, no Safari toolbar shows up (address box, navigation buttons, page tabs, etc.) so the interface is neat and has the feel of a standalone app.
    However, a couple of functions stop working in this mode (they work fine in the "standard mode"):
    I don't receive pop-ups (I'm able to launch reports against the server, which in turn is supposed to send back a PDF-file which should open in a new window or tab).
    I can't use a click-on email-link to create a message (it's a simple mailto:x link).
    I've searched all the configuration options I could think of but nothing solves this.
    Can it be done?
    If not, is there any way to "reduce" the space occupied by Safari's toolbar?
    Thanks

    I'm sorry Jim but I just wouldn't know where to start.
    This is not a developer question, I'm just trying to configure the iPad appropriately.
    Do you know if there is any configuration option on the iPad Air that "enables pop-ups" in Safari "full-screen mode"??

  • Web Clips in Safari Dashboard?

    Just wondering if people have luck trying to set up web clips for their Dashboard.  I keep trying different sites and dont have much luck.  The only answer I get from Apple is that it depends on how the website is set up.  But something has to work
    Im trying a few other sites and Ive got clips up right now (am waiting to see if theyll change in the next day as thats when it usually goes wrong)  but IM noticing now that whenever I open dashboard, I end up getting all these Safari windows opening with urls of https://googleads.g.doubleclick.net...
    and it seems its happening even if Im nowhere near the webclip but even over another widget or a pre-installed widget like a sticky.
    I did a search on that URL and it said it was some kind of error or Google glitch related to google ads etc..but that url keeps opening over & over & over but it's just a blank page...so it seems like even if I can get these web clips to actually work and update - they wont be usable if every time I open the Dashboard, I have a half dozen blank windows open in Safari.
    Just seems like its a no win
    I also wonder how can you tell which websites actually are written in a way that if you put a webclip into the dashboard it would work.  My lastest attempt at trying was using an editorial cartoon that I know changes every day or two
    Thanxx

    dont know..but it just stopped doing this.

  • Web clips and cacti

    I'm using web clips to monitor a few cacti graphs, but every once in a while, a web clip will will lose the image it's tracking and and just show the upper left corner of the page (this area has an image, but I think that's coincidental because the web clip is wider than the image).
    Is there anyway to edit what a web clip is showing, or do I just need to delete the webclip and recreate it? I currently have 7 running, and two have shown this problem.
    Failing that, is there a way, given a running web clip (or it's prefs file), to get the dimensions it uses, and then recreate the clip from the command line?
    I took a look at what I think is the pref's for web clips (~/Library/Preferences/widget-com.apple.widget.web-clip.plist), and there are a number of xml plist elements in the file but they seem to be just a copy of my cookies. It also has a large binary header, which I'm not sure how to interpret. I did find what looks like dimension list/url pairs farther down, but they're wrapped in binary segments, not xml, so editing them may go badly. I'll try stopping the dashboard, editing those, and restarting it.
    The other odd thing is that there are only four of the seven urls I'm tracking in that plist file. The two that have shrunk aren't listed, and neither is another one that is still running correctly.
    To add to the fun, some urls seem to be missing their dimensions, and others seem to have extra. I suppose this implies the dimensions are indexed off something in the header, and their proximity to a given url in the file means nothing. Joy.
    I believe this is an example of a dimension list: {{365, 443}, {620, 263}}
    However, I also ran into this: {{259, 108}, {620, 235}}[{1164, 751}
    Not sure what the extra pair represents.

    Hi MC Ready,
    Just thought perhaps you're knowledgeable enough to answer this question for me (it has to do with web clip widgets made in Safari):
    I have a radio station web page, which features an area to hear live broadcast through WM (Flip4Mac on my machine). Instead of having a Safari window permanently open to that site just for listening to the radio, I thought I'd make a web clip widget, which worked just fine for more than a couple of hours. Then the feed stopped, and I thought I would launch a new instance of the web clip widget, so that I might listen again.
    Alas, I can't find my widget in my widgets list at the bottom of the Dashboard screen, and I had a look at:
    ~/Library/Widgets, as well as
    /Library/Widgets
    Nowhere did I find my web clip widget. Any ideas as to where I might locate it?
    Bonus question: where does the web clip widget store its streamed data? If I click on the down arrow within the widget, I can use QuickTime to save the stream downloaded so far as Source or QuickTime, but I can't find this cached stream file in my hard disk.
    Many thanks.

  • Can I put a "web clip" on my iWeb page.

    So you know how you can have a "web clip" in dashboard where you select part a webpage and it lets you see it in a little window, I want to do that in iWeb. I want to take a part of another website (not the whole page, just a section in the middle) and add it to my site. How can I do this?

    Welcome to the Apple Discussions. Yes, that can be done. You use iFrame code and an HTML snippet with this code:
    <style type="text/css">
    #outerDiv{overflow:hidden;
    position:relative;
    width:200px;
    height:100px;}
    #innerIframe{ position:absolute;
    /* increase to nudge right, decrease to nudge left. Note negative number. */
    left:-823px;
    /* increase to nudge down, decrease to nudge up. Note negative number. */
    top:-403.5px;
    width:200px;
    height:100px;}
    </style>
    <iframe id='innerIframe' scrolling=no src=''>
    </iframe>
    <script type='text/javascript'>
    _rect=new Array();
    _rect.push(-361.0);
    _rect.push(-86);
    _rect.push(460);
    _rect.push(86);
    _rect.push(622);
    _rect.push(394);
    _outer=document.getElementById('outerDiv');
    outer.style.width=rect[4]+'px';
    outer.style.height=rect[5]+'px';
    _inner=document.getElementById('innerIframe');
    _inner.src='URL OF PAGE YOU WANT TO EMBED';
    inner.style.top=rect[1]+'px';
    inner.style.left=rect[0]+'px';
    inner.style.width=(_rect[2]rect[4])'px';
    inner.style.height=(_rect[3]rect[5])'px';
    </script>
    That's about all I know about it. You will have to experiment with the numbers in the code to get the part of the page you need. I just tried to create a test and got it somewhat OK but know know really which numbers do what. It was a blind hit or miss at this time. • Web Clip Widget Keeps Recentering Itself-Help!

    I've been looking forward to the Web Clip widget in Leopard for ages as a means of efficiently having instant access to the playlist page at KEXP.org. I've made a widget centered on the self-updating playlist portion of the page at http://kexp.org/playlist/playlist.asp, but it won't stay centered on the proper area--I'm usually good for four or five trips to the Dashboard, but after awhile the widget always changes its own shape, becoming long and narrow and centering on the frame on the left side of the screen. I'm quite eager to stop this from happening and to center it exclusively on the playlist in the middle. Any tips on how I can make sure this happens every time would be greatly, greatly appreciated. Thanks!

    Hi Alex
    I believe the BBC recently changed the way they code the radio widget, making it impossible to remain in the Dashboard. But, as you've found, the actual widget isn't in the Widgets folder.
    The only way you can remove it is to trash your preferences. Go to the home Library folder, then Preferences, and trash com.apple.dashboard.plist and com.apple.dashboard.client.plist. Immediately reboot.
    You might want to look at RadioAunty for an alternative way to access BBC radio stations.

  • How do I restore the web clip widget to the Dashboard/Library folder?

    Whilst following a discussion on "how to stop the dashboard from opening in Safari", I inadvertently deleted the "web clip" file from the /Library/Widgets folder. Is this an important file and how do I reinstall it?
    Many thanks.

    ''' I clicked on the view-layout-folder words '''
    What does that mean?
    These are commands in the Thunderbird menu system on YOUR computer. You should probably take some time to learn your way around Thunderbird.
    There are two ways to get to the View menu.
    First on the Menu Bar. It might be hidden on your system. Pressing the alt key or F10 will display hidden toolbars on most applications including Thunderbird.
    The next way is with the AppMenu button. It is a square space with 3 horizontal lines that is usually in the upper right screen area.

  • Disappearing web clip from dashboard, yet sound remains

    Wow this forum is amazingly helpful.
    I have one more little bug on my laptop. I made a web clip of a youtube video just to try out the feature and put it on my dashboard. Once I was on the dashboard I clicked that small "i" in the bottom right corner. Now usually that makes the clip flip over and you can edit it. This one flipped and disappeared all of a sudden. Now I wouldn't be bugged if any other clipping disappeared. However the sound from the video of the youtube clip remained. So now every time I go to the dashboard and if I am online the sound will go on from the video. I tried adding another clip to see if flipping that one will make it disappear as well, but it just nicely flipped and I was able to edit it. Also when I clicked that x in the bottom left corner to show me the rest of the widgets I was able to delete this last clip that i added. However the first one that disappeared still wouldn't show up.
    Is there anyway to make it show up or reset the dashboard?
    Thank you in advance

    delete com.apple.dashboard.plist and widget-com.apple.widget.web-clip.plist from
    username/Library/Preferences and log out/in. This should do it.

  • Pushing a web clip to iOS devices fails.

    We just set up a Mac Server to do some light mobile device management and I want to put a web clip on every iPads home screen. I set the payload in Profile Manager but when I go to save the new configuration and have it pushed to the iPads they all fail the task. Can anyone help me out?
    Thanks!

    I've already asked people to hold off on updating, but without any way to prevent them from updating, I just have to hope...
    I installed the iPCU and have looked at the console but I'm not seeing anything relevant. It's like the the command isn't being recieved by the iPad at all (even though Profile Manager shows it as sending, the iPad has internet access, and another iPad on the same network has no problem recieving commands)
    Looking at the logs on an iPad that is receiving commands (the iPad with a fresh iOS 7 install, enrolled with Profile Manager after iOS 7 was installed)  I see entries related to MDM:

  • Creating Web Clip Widgets

    is this possible in Safari 4?
    I finally have a great use for it and I cant find it.
    Ive search these forums and havnt really found anything about it not being in Safari 4.

    HI,
    is this possible in Safari 4?
    Yes.
    Open Safari and go to the webpage you want to make into a widget.
    Choose File > “Open in Dashboard.”
    Move the pointer around to select the portion of the webpage you want to make into a widget. When the portion is highlighted, click it.
    If you like, reposition the highlighted portion by dragging it. To resize the portion, drag the round handles on its edges.
    When you’re done adjusting the outline, click Add.
    Dashboard appears, with the web clip displayed.
    To customize the widget, move the pointer over its lower-right corner. Click the Info ( i ) button when it appears, and then select any of these options:
    Theme: Choose a look for the widget.
    Only play audio in Dashboard: If your widget is a sound or video clip, select this checkbox if you want the sound to stop playing when you close Dashboard.
    Edit: To resize the widget or reposition the content, click Edit. Drag the content around to reposition it, and drag the Web Clip’s lower-right corner to resize.
    A Web Clip widget remains in Dashboard until you remove it. If you remove a Web Clip widget, the only way to get it back is to create it again.
    You can create as many Web Clip widgets as you want.
    You can find these instructions in the Safari Help Menu.

  • Partner application and web clipping.

    Hi All,
    I am trying to add an external application (say my.yahoo.com) to a webclipping and its throwing the below error in the application log.
    WC-517 : SSL handshake failed with the url ...
    I have checked the file ca-bundle.crt and the certificates are in place. Does anybody know how to go about debugging this problem as I am quite new to portals and at my wits end to solve it.
    Also I would be greatful if anybody can suggest me the steps on adding an Apex application configured as partner application with SSO authentication to a web clipping.There seems to be little or no-documentation at all in this regard(as far as my search goes).
    Thanks in advance
    -Venkat

    I finally got it working by VERY CAREFULLY reading the instructions in the install.txt document in the SSO SDK package. You have to set up the partner application with a new schema in the login server database, and run the regapp.sql script AFTER editing it to insert data from the Login Server Partner Application admin screen. After you register the partner app in Portal, it gives you some info (site token, listener token, encryption key, etc). You have to MANUALLY copy these and paste them into the regapp.sql script, then run the script in the partner app schema. Make sure you don't confuse capital I with numeral 1 (like I did, since Oracle so nicely uses a non-serif font where you can not tell the difference).
    Also make sure you copy the exact values for these parameters into your code when you use the SSOEnabler class. The listener token was very confusing since different documents appear to disagree on whether it should include the partner app name or not. It does require the partner app name:
    app-name:hostname:port
    hostname and port are for the web server that is handling http requests for the login server (usually your main portal web server).

  • Https and web clipping portlet

    Hi,
    I have little problem with portal, I can't add web clipping portlet from my web app, which using https.
    Has anyone any experience with adding web clipping portlet over ssl? Is it possible? (version 10g, 10.1.2.0.0)
    Thanks
    Jan Kralik

    Hi Jan,
    Have you configured the whole iAS stack in SSL? -- refer to Section 6.3.2.1.4, "SSL Throughout OracleAS Portal" from the Portal Configuration Guide (http://www.oracle.com/technology/documentation/appserver1012.html).
    I hope it helps...
    Cheers,
    Pedro.

  • Web application through web clipping portlet configured through SSO

    I have followed the steps in the below URL in integrating the external application with SSO configuration.
    http://MKD-164540.wipro.com:7778/portalTools/webClipping/providers/webClipping
    After adding the web clipping portlet to the portal page it is giving the below message.
    User authentication failed. Please use the following link to update the information.
    Update login information.
    Navigating to "Update login information. " link showing to enter the log in and password details.I am confused which log in details I have to submit here. I have tried my AD credentials and application login details. Its not working anything.
    If anybody have any idea on this, Please help me.
    Regards,
    -Venu

    Either the login information is not correct (it explains it should not be domain\username but just username) or the authentication format from your Microsoft proxy server (Kerberos?) is not compatible with the Web Clipping portlet. You might get a better reply in the Portal forum about supported proxy authentication methods for the WebClipping portlet.
