Stop XCode documentation download.

Every time I launch XCode, XCode begins to download tons of documentation. How do I get XCode to stop downloading documentation, in order to prevent overuse of download bandwidth?

Open the preferences panel of Xcode and navigate at the extreme right. There is the documentation settings panel where you can uncheck the "Check for and install updates automatically"

I have a developer subscription and have always been able to use the xcode documentation in the past. However, when I downloaded and installed the iphone 3.0 software and attempted to 'subscribe' to the iphone 3.0 Doc Set, it fails.
It says:
Failed to download documentation package for iPhone OS 3.0 Library.
Access denied for download. Check that your account name and password (possibly stored in your keychain) are correct and still valid for the server.
Do I need to generate a new certificate or something?

Yes, thanks, one of those posts did the trick. For my particular case deleting the 'connect.apple.com' key prompted me for a new password and now it works.

Xcode continuously downloading documentation

since updating to the latest developer preview 3.2, Xcode keeps downloading the documentation:
10.6 core library,
and the
3.2 developer Tools library
I have disabled the automatic updating, and this has fixed it, but the damage has already done, Xcode has d/l gigabytes of data in the background. In any case, I would actually quite like the documentation on my Mac.
why does Xcode keep updating these two files?
does it have to re download the entire file each time something is changed... rather than just the changes. I thought all the support files were installed when I install xCode.

Post to the developer forums under OS X Technologies. BTW, 3.2.1 is the latest version. Under Preferences->Documentation, uncheck Check for & install updates automatically. Note that it only updates when there are changes. It's just that the process is slower than molasses and you have to be patient. E.g., I last updated on 1/21. Just checked now and these four were updated:
Java, Core, Legacy, and Dev Tools. Took 34 minutes to update them on a fast roadrunner cable: average 2.535 GB/sec downloads.

Control Xcode background downloads

Hello,
I have 4.3.2 and I have noticed that Xcode downloads iOS simulators and Device Debugging Support in the background. These files seem to average slightly more than half a gig, so they are not small updates by any means.
I have the checkbox "Check for and install updates automatically" unchecked, yet these sneaky background downloads continue. I've noticed that if I close Xcode during one of these downloads, instead of gracefully saving the position it is at and resuming when I reopen Xcode, the download starts over when I reopen Xcode. Oh, and I don't code for iOS, so all of that is a waste anyway.
So my question is, is there a way to stop these downloads since the checkbox seems to have no control over it?

Click the settings button at the bottom left of the Podcasts view. Change the Podcast Defaults to something other than Download All, then, if you want adjust individual subscriptions.

You've got to be freakin' kidding me. I'm in Brazil, I accidentally started a 2.2GB download that it says will take 592 minutes to download, and there's no way I can stop it and download something else until that first download finishes? I would have thought it was unthinkable 15 years ago that anyone would build an app that downloads things but doesn't allow the option of canceling the download, but in this day and age? So much for Apple making intuitive, user-friendly products.

to the right by search library theres an arrow there click on it : it will show you what it is downloading , from there you can pause and select all and delete them but still will continue to download them if you tell itunes to check for downloads. that download engien is crazy i tell yeah.
no matter what we do it will still download them trust me i tryed everything and i also went to icloud to see if it was there but to what i see is that there is no apps there this is some crazy itune program that needs to remade.

How do I stop iTunes from downloading multiple copies of a TV show?

This is driving me nuts. Using Doctor Who as the example, for each episode released, iTunes tries to download two HD copies and one SD copy. I don't need the SD, nor do I need to duplicate HD. Yet I can't stop it from trying to download them when I start iTunes, nor can I figure out how to permanently remove or cancel a pending download.
Anyone have any idea how to stop this?

Didn't have much luck matching search terms for this before posting, yet after posting links came up referencing other queries in which people asked how to stop iTunes from downloading the HD and SD versions of a TV show. Consensus seems to be that iTunes will always download each version, which is just plain silly. Haven't seen any explaination, however, on why it then tries to download a second HD copy.

That is correct. This is the way it is ALL HD purchases come with the SD version.

How To Stop An MMS Download

I tried sending myself a picture message a while ago to see if I could recieve them, and I can't. The thing is, I can't get my Centro to stop trying to download it. Whenever I go to the message center, the little envelope with 0% always shows up and it's slowing my phone down. Sometimes I can't even turn the screen off to save power.
Is there any way I can get my centro to stop trying to download this?

Does it freeze with other type of cards. Have seem some post that suggest an imbedded CODEC on the flash card can cause file corruption in Bridge and Mac Finder.

Have you tried deleting the App within the Settings menu (rather than from the Home Screen)?

Did you try shutting down the device? Resetting? Disabling iCloud? Disabling auto-update?
I'd find the problem that is keeping the download from proceeding and fix that so that the process can finish...sounds like it may be your connection or a server issue, in which case you may need to wait.

You can't stop the download, only pause it. Let it finish.

Movie replay stops because of download pause

When downloading a movie on my Mac Mini the download gets stuck every few minutes and then moves forward without any interaction from my end. When viewing the movie while downloading (no matter how far the download is) the movie freezes while the download stops.
The download speed is around 100Mb/sec - a complete HD movie with 4.7 GB shows only 30 min for download - so speed is not the issue. Also there are no other apps open, backup not running. Had this issue with multiple internet providers so it seems not coming from that side.
When the movie is completely downloaded the movie runs better, but even then has some minor stops.

I would first try reinstalling your backup copy of your previous OSX version if you can and then try reinitiating the installation of Lion from there. However, if that doesn't work at all, then the stoppage of the download by the power failure most likely corrupted your harddrive. I myself would then take the safest course and reformat the harddrive by booting from your Original Installation Disks and reformatting the harddrive from the Disk's "Disk Utility". Then go thru the installation of the previous operating system to the point where you can once again proceed with the download and installation of Lion.

Let me first say that I am NO EXPERT with anything Apple and really have only started looking into this iCloud stuff a few hours ago because I'm trying to help my mom free up some space on her iCloud. But anyway, here's what I'm learning and what I THINK might be happening to you.
Also, if any Apple support people (do they browse the forums to dish out helpful hints?) or people who probably know infinitely more than me about this stuff, please do chime in and confirm / correct my statements!
This is what I gather.
iCloud for Windows is set up with a local folder (let's call it "C:\Users\Administrator\Pictures\iCloud Photos\My Photo Stream") where iCloud will store photos uploaded to the Photo Stream. This will allow you to view your Photo Stream photos on your PC.
This does not mean that this is a PC backup of your Photo Stream photos, but just a way to view your Photo Stream from your PC. That being said, the general Photo Stream rules apply: 1. No videos are on the photo-stream, and 2. Photos on the Photo Stream will be removed after ~30 days and/or after hitting the Photo Stream limit of 1000 photos.
My guess is that the iCloud Windows App will delete photos from the local folder that are older than ~30 days and/or delete all but the most recent 1000 items if the 1000-item limit is reached.
That is a scary thought! I really hope you did not lose all your pictures, but my guess is that the iCloud local folder is NOT meant for backup but instead is the iCloud Windows App's sandbox for updating and managing Photo Stream photos.
All that being said, I'd say it's important to back up your photos in a separate folder not related to the iCloud local folder.
