Stop XMP Files Being Generated

Every time I import MPEG files, XMP files are generated alongside of them. How is this disabled? I've tried unchecking the "Write XMP ID to Files on Import" but it has no effect...

> It's just creating clutter where I would like to keep just the source files in the folder.
Solution: Do not create destination files. Keep only source.

    Can anyone help?
I am helping a family member to migrate her programmes and data to a new PC (running Windows 7 64 bit). This is a telephone and email exercise  as she lives abroad.
Upon installing Photoshop Elements and transferrng her stock of about 8,000 jpeg photos from her old machine she has discovered that virtually every one has an xmp file associated with it.
She never uses RAW (her compact camera cannot generate RAW files) and only a small proportion of her pictures have been previously edited in the PSE Editor module. I always thought that both the PSE Organiser and Editor modules wrote their metadata to the xmp section within the jpeg itself and that separate xmp sidecar files were only created when RAW files were edited using ACR with the appropriate options set.. She has used Picasa in the past to index her pictures, if that is relevant.
I am not a regular Elements user myself (I use Photoshop CC plus Lightroom) and I have not been able to come up with a satisfactory explanation. . Any ideas please?

There is no logical explanation although if your family member is a Mac user or more precisely a user of iOS these files can get automatically generated by a photo app or by the iPad/iPhone camera roll.

  • Moving Workflows stops email tickets being generated

    Hi Guys,
I'm trying to move workflows from Management Server A to Management Server B.
    The steps I followed were:
    On Management Server B:
Stop System Center Data Access Service and Microsoft Monitoring Agent and System Center Management Configuration services
Delete the Health Service State folder in \Program Files\Microsoft System Center 2012\Service Manager
    Connect to ServiceManager Database instance
Run: EXEC p_PromoteActiveWorkflowServer ManagementServerB.local on ServiceManager db
Restart services on Management Server B
After this was performed emails being sent in were not coming through. I reran the query chnaging it back to Management Server A and they all came through. The exchange connector was originally setup on Management Server A. has anyone had this issue?
    I'm using SCSM 2012 R2. on Server 2012.

The exchange connector uses the EWS APIs. the exchange connector runs on the workflow server (since the work done for the connector is in a workflow). Whoever set up your exchange connector the first time had to install these DLLs into the service manager
folder on the workflow server the as part of installing the connector (see the exchange connector's install guide, the DOCX file on
    this download page).
if you moved the workflows by promoting a different server, and that different server didn't have the EWS API dlls from the above link copied into the Service Manager folder, then you would see the exchange connector failing in this way.
Can you tell if any other workflows are running sucessfully on the new server?

  • Javascript protect pdf from being copied or to stop the file being opened after a particular date.

    Hi,
I need to find out if there is a possible way to keep a check on a PDF so that it can become unsuable after some days of being opened first or anyway to make the  file content uncopyable . Any javascript for the same.
    Thanks
    Kapil

    In all practical senses, no.
While it is possible to fake security using JavaScript (for example by showing or hiding an overlay on each page) it is trivial to defeat, and will not work in third-party PDF viewers such as OS X Preview, Chrome or Firefox. Embedded scripts cannot change the protection on a file to enable or disable the copying of content.
The only way to 'expire' a document is to use digital rights management through the Adobe LiveCycle Rights Management server product.

  • Massive asl files being generated daily?

I have asl files showing up multiple times per day that are GB in size. I have read through forums and tried to stop the process via Terminal, but the files continue to pile up. My computer is running extremely slow and hot due to nearly 100% CPU in use. Please someone help! I'm about to resort to a new computer...this one is basically worthless the way it is now. I'm running 10.5.8.

    Hi Reinhardt,
I am not sure please give it a try, Auto Syndication Task Delay (seconds) Integer.  Default is 0. Check if it helps..
Set it to 0 if you have set any other parameter, see Figure 87. The MDSS-specific Report Detail pane page 279/403

It may be also possible because of Bug, let's have input from others if it works else i would suggest to raise an OSS Note to SAP

  • Huge user trace files being generated under udump

last few days one of my database is generating huge number of user trace files under udump. I tried to investigate in alert.log file. But as I am not very expert to analyze the alert.log file I could not find the cause behind it. Only the ORA-00600: internal error code is found there. But it is a generic error . Please help.

Thank you again. I got the clue from your reply.
The error message is pasted below in short.
    ORA-00600: internal error code, arguments: [12333], [0], [0], [0], [], [], [], []
Current SQL statement for this session:
    BEGIN :1 := TESTDBA.LOCAL_SYSDATE_SFT_FNC( 1,:2,:3 ); END;
And it is obvious that the function had some problem recently. We need to investigate on that. Now my request is
Please guide me how to check in metalink with the value '12333' which came as argument of ORA-00600 error. Here my job was easy as I got the problem function name . By I want to know the art of analysing the error message in alert.log file.
Also tell me which places I should check regularly as a responsibility of a DBA ?
What are the common errors in Alert log file? Where I should be cautioned ? Where I should ignore. Give me some tips please. Do not restrict your discussion on Alret.log only . Also please cover all important areas. If you think I am taking much of your time then please send me some link or source of PDF etc.

  • How can I stop midi files being played by the QT plugin in IE6?

    Hi
Since reloading XP and QT 7.5 Pro, I have a problem I did not have before. In Explorer, my .mid midi files are associated with my preferred Karaoke player.
However, when I click on a .mid link on a web page in IE6, it uses the QT plugin to play it, rather than my preferred player. I have check my QT preferences file types, and midi files are definately NOT associated.
Firefox did the same, so I simply disabled the plugin, clicked a .mid link, and Firefox then asked me to choose a player. However, if I disable the plugin in IE6, when I click a .mid link, I just get a blank page and a baloon warning me the page is trying to use a disabled plug in. My only option at this point is to quit or re-enable the plugin.
    Can anybody please help?
    Thanks.
    Message was edited by: alan_dr

In case anyone is interested, I managed to solve this. Basically I disabled the QT plugin, went into Windows media player and assigned midi files to it. Then I went into Explorer and switched the files back to use my Karaoke player. THen I unassigned midi in Media player and reenabled the QT plugin. Bingo!

  • Stopping Reports from Being Generated

When I first tried Network Magic I set up the reporting function. Essentials which I finally purchased does not have the reporting function but my computer is still trying to send reports. How do I turn that function off.

I am fairly new at this so let me try my best to answer these questions:

    Visual Studio? Not sure
No service pack applied. How and where do i get it?
    I am using Windows XP
I am not viewing the reports as it has to be generated before i am able to view and the systems does nothing after I click the generate button
No  have not tried to view a single report; i don't know how.
I have not used Crystal reports designer for anything else.

  • "Automatically Write Changes into XMP" Not Saving XMP Files

I tried finding some other discussions on this but I couldn't seem to find anything...
I recently checked the "Automatically Write Changes into XMP" setting in my "Catalog Settings". However, as I continue to add pictures to my library and make changes, I do *not* see the XMP files being written to the location of the pictures (Nikon NEF files located on my hard-drive). In fact, I can't find the XMP files anywhere. If I want to output the XMP files I have to do a Ctrl + S (Photo --> Save Metadata to File).
I did notice that when I unchecked the setting and re-checked it, *some* of the XMP files showed up. However, in my import of 24 photos, only 14 had XMP files. I had to manually "Save Metadata to File" to get the XMP sidecar files to show.
Am I doing something wrong? Is something not working right? I'm a bit confused. I assumed it would automatically export the sidecar files.
How often should it be outputting XMP sidecards? If I import a new image should the XMP sidecar file be created? Or is it created the first time I change an original picture?
I am using Adobe Lightroom 2.0 (Camera Raw 4.5) on a Mac OS X 10.5.5.
    Thanks,
    -Leftquark

@Eric: hitting cntrl+s works but can be tedeous on large galleries. I've been doing this but it can be a pain.
@Jeannine: different topic than this thread but to answer anyways... Lightroom automatically saves all changes into your catalogue. You never need to dave your changes (here's the kicker though) as long as you do not move the original file. If you
move the file than lightroom won't know that it's the same image as the one you've edited. Once you are done editing your image you will need to "export" the image to a new file (you don't wan to overwrite the original). If you don't export than only lightroom will have your edits. Lightroom is "non-destructive" Which means that it doesn't touch your original photo. Lightroom keeps a text file containing the instructions on what you did to make the edited version. Since your changes are just text inatryxtions you have to "export" the image to get your final image in a version you can put online, print, etc. But to answer your original question, I think you prob moves the original image. If not, could you give us more info?

  • XMP files not being created with DNGs...

I'm used to using Bridge with ACR to process Nikon NEFs. But a recent camera update has me experimenting with converting the D3's NEFs to DNG files and editing them with CS2 and Bridge 1.04 which works better on my system. I've also experimented with CS3 and Bridge 2.1.1.9 with the same DNG files.
In both cases XMP files are not being created when working with DNG files. I have enabled "Save image settings in : Sidecar ".xmp" files" turned ON. But they do not seem to be generated and I assume the ACR adjustments are being embedded in the DNG file. Meanwhile doing edits on NEF files continues to create .xmp files as expected.
I find .xmp files to be very useful and I'm wondering why they're missing with DNG files? Are they hiding somewhere other than in the same folder that the images reside in?
    Thanks.
    Russell

    > The information contained in the XMP file is stored in the DNG file so there is no need for a separate file.
Aww, yuck!! That's a real drag...
When editing lots of files (yesterday's shoot produced 8GB) I back everything up to off-line storage and then, after doing all my edits and crops in ACR, I only have to copy over the small XMP files which takes no time at all.
So if I re-edit the DNG with ACR I have to re-copy ALL the files again to the off-line storage.
I used to sometimes even save 2 versions of the xmp files when I needed 2 different crops of the same images, such as doing a wide screen 'cinema' crop for a corporate client's Intranet presentation of their event, as well as more standard crops to be used for their newsletters.
Guess I won't be using DNG any more..
Thanks for the help Kees :-)
