Stopping iPhoto sync with MobileMe

I just installed iPhoto '09 and am editing my photos to include places. Unfortunately, every time I edit a photo that is in an album that has been published to the MobileMe gallery, iPhoto tries to sync the changes the photo, which grinds all other activity to a halt.
I keep telling iPhoto to stop syncing, but the software does whatever it wants.
Is there a way to stop this short of deleting all my published albums and re-publishing them after I have edited my library?

Have you set the iPhoto preference for web syncing to manual?

  • Missing a calendar in iCal after syncing with MobileMe....

i am having some problems with iCal ...i am missing one my Calendars in iCal and wasn't sure how to get it back. I downloaded the calendars file and calendar.plist from my Time Machine backup...the missing calendar showed up at first, but it seemed to disappear right away (i assume after syncing with MobileMe.) Not sure what would be the easiest way to bring it back.......

It's possible to restore from Time Machine, though it's a slightly complicated process. Please follow very carefully the steps described here:

When I receive appointments by email and accept them they go into the enourage "on my mac" ical calendar which is not synced with mobileme.  How do I change where appointments are put ?
Or how can I choose where the appointment is put ?
I use the mobileme sync services so the ical calendars that are synced are those in the "[email protected]" group.
    Please help !
    Nick

Actually you can't drag the appointment to ano calendar - its says "You can’t make changes to this invitation., Only the organiser can change this event"
Also if you double click on the received appointment and open the window the only calendars shown that you can select are the 'on my mac" ones, and not the sync'd ones.
    Any ideas welcome !!

  • IPhone Contacts & Calendars not syncing with mobileme

Apologies if there is a solution to this posted already, I can't find it despite extensive searching!
My iPhone Calendars & Contacts do not sync with MobileMe. I can't find a way of exporting or saving the data on the iPhone and importing it into my desktop iCal & Contacts apps.
I have looked at all troubleshooting help I can find, and all is suggested is deleting/ resetting the phone & syncing from MobileMe. However, if I do this I will lose lots of contacts & calendar entries.
The data will NOT sync from my phone despite following all available instructions. My desktop apps are all set to sync with MobileMe & this works fine, it's just the iPhone data will not transfer to MobileMe.
    Please help!!

Since you are syncing your iPhone with your Mac, it should be syncing your contacts and calendars with your Mac as well (and your bookmarks if you have it set up to sync). You should have Mobile Me setup on your Mac to at least sync your Calendars and Contacts, which should be updating your Mobile Me account. If you want to check to make sure that all of your contacts that are on your iPhone are on your Mac, simply open up the Contacts App. Once you check this, add your Mobile Me account to your iPhone and let it sync your contacts and calendars, it will delete all the contacts and calendars that are currently on your iPhone, but the same data is on your Mac anyways. Once Mobile Me syncs with your iPhone you won't have to worry about it anymore.
If you are having problems where you already setup your Mobile Me account on your iPhone and it's not syncing properly, deleted it, restart your iPhone, then add it again.
    Does this help?

This has worked fine with MobileMe with only a couple of minor glitches in the past.
Any experience doing this the "right" way?

Home share got nothing to do with sync. Figure out which one you want off and come back.

  • Deleting iPhone contacts & syncing with MobileMe

I had been syncing iphone contacts to a mobileme account and then wanted to instead sync them to another mobileme account (the main account in a family).  This is a problem since you cannot delete all the contacts on the iPhone (I had 2000 of them.) and iPhone syncing with mobileme does not allow you to replace contacts on the iPhone with what is on mobileme.  (iPhone allows only a merge which would duplicate contacts and add many I no longer wanted.)  After considering the "solution" offered by a "Genuis" which was to reset the iPhone and start over which is a painful process to reorganize the apps and login all apps that require it, etc.  Instead I developed the following procedure that worked great (This was with Mac OS 10.6.8 and IOS 4.3.5):
    1) Sync address book on Mac to make sure mobileme is up to date.
    2) Backup all the address book to an address book archive and/or select all contacts and save in a vcard file (File -> Export)
    3) Uncheck sync of contacts in MobileMe (Apple -> System Preferences -> MobileMe -> Sync tab)
    4) Select all contacts in Address Book and hit delete (Edit -> Select All, then hit delete)
    5) Select all groups in Address Book and delete (select first group, hold shift and click last group, then hit delete)
    6) Connect iPhone and sync.  Go to info tab in iTunes and select Sync Address Book Contacts, then Under Advanced, check Replace Information on this iPhone - Contacts.  This will transfer contacts (none) from Mac to iPhone which will delete all existing iPhone contacts.  Click apply and then sync.
    7) After sync, disconnect iPhone and verify there are no contacts on iPhone.
    8) On iPhone, go to Settings -> Mail, Contacts, Calendars, Accounts -> MobileMe (login if you haven't done so), turn on Contacts (to sync with mobileme)
    9) In a few minutes, the contacts on the iPhone (none) will be merged with the desired contacts in MobileMe and the contacts in MobileMe should show up in the iPhone Address book - This completes the iPhone.
    10) On the Mac, go to Apple->System Preferences->Mobile Me->Sync tab and recheck Contacts.  Click Advanced, Reset Sync Data, select only Contacts and transfer contacts from MobileMe cloud to the Mac, and click Replace.
    11) In a few minutes, all contacts and groups from MobileMe should show up in the Mac Address book and you are done.

    Yes I did select merge.
Did it 2 times without anything happening on iPhone or MobileMe.
Third time it deleted my contacts on the iPhone.
Is there no option to tell it which direction to do the merge/sync?

  • Quickbook contacts use to sync with Mobileme.  Why do they not sync with Icloud

Quickbook contacts use to sync with Mobileme.  Why do they not sync with Icloud

MobileMe used SyncServices, part of the System, to sync contacts. iCloud uses a different protocol and evidently Quickbooks can't work with this.

  • Address Book won't sync with MobileMe - inconsistent data!

I recently began getting 'Inconsistent Data' messages when I sync with MobileMe for my Address Book. I have always had an auto sync and never had this issue. I am told to reset the MobileMe data from another computer - which I have tried to do but with similar error results.
My most recent data is on MobileMe...I have so far failed to sync this data set with what's on my Mac Platforms.
I have tried to resort to merge data or erase data on this computer from the sync options dialogue box, but still end up with "inconsistent data. Try resetting your data on MobileMe".
I'm afraid that if I did that, then I will lose all my current data on MobileMe - which is the most recent, since most of my input for my contacts is made directly from my iPhone or iPad (both of which are syncing correctly).
    Anybody have any ideas?

I have the exact same problem but have not been able to get my computers to sync with contacts although my iphone and Ipad are working perfectly. I tried deleting all my contacts in both mobileme and locally and tried to sync but was unsuccessful and still get the inconsistent data message. I hope someone can help us.

  • CalDAV syncing with MobileMe

Our company uses a corporate gmail account so has about 15 different calendars. I've set up the account and delegates in iCal. But when I sync with MobileMe, I get nothing on my online calendar. The addresses and bookmarks are syncing so I'm pretty sure I'm connecting. Any ideas?

New updates appear to have solved the issue.

  • IPhoto frozen when syncing with MobileMe galleries

    Hello all,
I have about 30 MobileMe albums uploaded from iPhoto. I noticed that 3 seconds after i updated metadata (photo title, rating etc) of any photo in the online gallery, iPhoto freezes. I am very positive the freeze is caused by the fact that iPhoto tries to sync that change with MobileMe (the icon next to the online gallery changed to the spinning wheel)
I come from a programming background and it seems to me the freeze is caused by something like "using UI thread to do the sync and because the thread is blocked by the network I/O". I hope this is not the case because it's a very poor/half-*** design.
Does anyone have insight on how to avoid/fix this issue?

syncing with Mobile me does lock up your system - I'm guessing tha this is because until recently you could continue making changes while the update was taking place causing problems with the update
The best way is to make an album of the photos you want in the mobile me gallery, make all of your changes there and then publish the completed gallery

  • IPhoto not syncing with MobileMe Gallery

I took a lot of pictures this past weekend and for the past three days have been trying to get them on my MobileMe Gallery. Every time I try to publish, it starts going - looks like normal - and then an error pops up saying something about not being able to access or publish to the server or something. It is dirivng me crazy! In some cases, half an event will publish and in some cases, no pictures in an event will publish at all. I am using the latest version of leopard, and the latest version of iPhoto. I have a full .mac / MobileMe account and it has plenty of available space. Can anyone help me? I have pictures of my friends' baby that she wants to see and I can't show her..

This fix was for another issue, emails, but has help iWeb users in getting published to MMe. A long shot but might work for you:

After waiting a day for the rolling restore to happen, I called AppleCare because Apple had sent an email saying my service was back, and it wasn't. I still could send and not receive using Mail.
Here is what fixed it. *Go to MobileMe (terrible name) in System Preferences, log out. Then enter a garbage name and password and try to log in. This apparently clears the MobileMe preferences. Then enter your real UserName and PassWord.* For me this was lights on.
I am left wondering how long ago I could have had email had I known this preference reset scheme.
TIP: For insurance against the iPhoto database corruption that many users have experienced I recommend making a backup copy of the Library6.iPhoto (iPhoto.Library for iPhoto 5 and earlier) database file and keep it current. If problems crop up where iPhoto suddenly can't see any photos or thinks there are no photos in the library, replacing the working Library6.iPhoto file with the backup will often get the library back. By keeping it current I mean backup after each import and/or any serious editing or work on books, slideshows, calendars, cards, etc. That insures that if a problem pops up and you do need to replace the database file, you'll retain all those efforts. It doesn't take long to make the backup and it's good insurance.
I've created an Automator workflow application (requires Tiger or later), iPhoto dB File Backup, that will copy the selected Library6.iPhoto file from your iPhoto Library folder to the Pictures folder, replacing any previous version of it. It's compatible with iPhoto 6 and 7 libraries and Tiger and Leopard. Just put the application in the Dock and click on it whenever you want to backup the dB file. iPhoto does not have to be closed to run the application, just idle. You can download it at Toad's Cellar. Be sure to read the Read Me pdf file.
Note: There now an Automator backup application for iPhoto 5 that will work with Tiger or Leopard.

  • Iphone not syncing with MobileMe

Today, I noticed that my iphone (3G latest firmware) is no longer syncing contacts, calendars, bookmarks etc with MobileMe. I have tried everything, including hard reset of iphone, deleting and re-adding my mail, contact account in the iPhone settings. I've checked both my computers and they are both syncing OK to mobileme, and in find my iphone it shows my iphone is online and can find it...
I have for the time being had to revert to manual syncing on iTunes of my contacts, calendars etc.
I've exhausted all idea's for what the problem is or how to fix it, anyone out there got any idea's?

I too had issues with MM and my iPhone syncing.
MM won't sync/push to iCal / Address Book apps and won't sync to my iPhone 4 as well.
I don't know if this might help you guys but this is what I did and everything is peachy again.
    1. Backup your iCal & Address Book (IMPORTANT)
    2. Go to Settings > MobileMe > Sync (tab) > Advanced > select your computer and click on Stop Syncing Computer.
    3. In Settings, proceed to Sharing > Change your computer Name to something else.
    4. Restart your Mac.
    5. Plug your iPhone to the dock.
    6. In iTunes, do a restore to the latest firmware and have it set to its default factory settings.
    7. Restore your phone. (I chose a backup a couple days ago from the drop down menu, when things were still working)
    8. After the restore is done, on your iPhone, proceed to Settings > Mail, Contacts, Calendar > DELETE your MobileMe account and ENSURE that you delete off all its data.
    9. Once done. On your Mac, proceed to Settings > MobileMe. Now sync your Mac with MobileMe. Choose to either Merge, Your Mac supersede MM or the other way around.
    10. After that is done. On your iPhone, re-create your MobileMe account and select the services your want to sync.
It solved my problem. Hope it'll solve yours.
Its about 410a.m here and my apologies for any typos.

  • IPhone photos to sync with mobileme

I know you can use iPhoto on a Mac to automatically pull your iphone photos and sync them to a moblieme gallery, but is this possible in windows? does anyone know of a 3rd party app that will sync with the iphone and push to a mobileme gallery?

I forgot to tell why it's doing this.
It's acting like a digital camera would when you connect it. Until those photos that you took with your phone are imported onto your computer and deleted from the phone this will always happen. After you do what I suggested previously it wont.
What I do, and take from this what you will is.. I import the photos and delete them from the phone. I created an album that always syncs with the phone and within iphoto i simply add those new pictures. Now when I connect my phone, assuming I haven't taken new pictures, iPhoto will not open, thus not asking me if I want to import.
