Find iPodService in the list, and end the process. Click 'Retry', and it will go through.

  • How can I create shortcut to ipod service

I am unable to fix the problem of "windows recognizes ipod, itunes does not" I have tried ALL the fixs that Apple has posted and I still have to restart my ipod service everytime I want to sync my ipod.
Does anyone know how I can make a shortcut to my "ipod service" so I can restart it more quickly than right clicking my computer and all the rest?
Even better but not likely. I wish this problem never started and that Apple would fix it.
But the shortcut will ease the pain.
    Thanks in advance

Create a batch file (save a notepad document with a .bat extention) and add these lines to it:
    net stop "iPod Service"
    net start "iPod Service"
Double clicking this batch file will restart your iPod Service

  • ITunes 10.1 Upgrade on Windows 7, iPod Service issue

I am upgrading from iTunes 10.0.0.68 (64 bit version) to iTunes 10.1 (64 bit version) on my Windows 7. After some time the popup error message reads,
Service 'iPod Service' (Pod Service) could not be installed. Verify that you have sufficient privileges to install system services
I aborted the installation. Roll back action took place and I am continuing with iTunes
Now when I run iTunes, the message says,
The software required for communicating with iPods and mobile phones was not installed correctly. Do you want iTunes to try to repair this for you?
I clicked on Yes. Then iTunes application opened with the message "Could not delete service" (the title of the window is 'iPod Service')
How do I fix this problem? I want to upgrade to iTunes 10.1 as I want to upgrade my iPad to iOS 4.2

Now, based on your latest response I did the right-click, install as Administrator. The result unfortunately is the same.
Okay ... let's try a modified version of the instructions from the following document. (The modification is because they aren't precisely accurate for 64-bit systems ... the program files that could potentially be left on your system by the unmodified instructions wouldn't normally be relevant to an iPod Service issue, but you're getting a relatively rare variation on iPod Service trouble. So, just in case ...)
If you get any error messages during any of the uninstalls, deletions or reinstalls, note down what they say and post back with the precise text, please.
    Here's the document:
[Removing and reinstalling iTunes, QuickTime, and other software components for Windows Vista or Windows 7|http://support.apple.com/kb/HT1923]
    ... here's the modification:
When you get to *step 9* of the *Verify iTunes and related components are completely uninstalled* section, proceed instead with the following instructions:
    (9) Right-click the Apple folder (if it exists), choose Delete, and choose Yes when asked to confirm the deletion. Click Continue if Windows needs confirmation or permission to continue.
Note: If you have a 64-bit version of the Windows OS, continue with step #10. Otherwise, skip to step #17.
    (10) Open the Program Files (x86) folder.
    (11) Right-click the iTunes folder (if it still exists), choose Delete, and choose Yes when asked to confirm the deletion.
    (12) Right-click the iPod folder, choose Delete, and choose Yes when asked to confirm the deletion. Click Continue if Windows needs confirmation or permission to continue.
    (13) Right-click the QuickTime folder (if it exists), choose Delete, and choose Yes when asked to confirm the deletion. Click Continue if Windows needs confirmation or permission to continue.
    (14) Right-click the Bonjour folder (if it exists), choose Delete, and choose Yes when asked to confirm the deletion. Click Continue if Windows needs confirmation or permission to continue.
    (15) Open the Common Files folder.
    (16) Right-click the Apple folder (if it exists), choose Delete, and choose Yes when asked to confirm the deletion. Click Continue if Windows needs confirmation or permission to continue.
    (17) Open Local Disk (C:) located in Computer or whichever hard disk your operating system is installed on.
    (18) Open the Windows folder.
    (19) For 32-bit versions of Windows: Open the System32 folder.
For 64-bit versions of Windows: Open the Syswow64 folder.
    (20) Right-click the QuickTime file (if it exists), choose Delete, and choose Yes when asked to confirm the deletion. Click Continue if Windows needs confirmation or permission to continue.
    (21) Right-click the QuickTimeVR file (if it exists), choose Delete, and choose Yes when asked to confirm the deletion. Click Continue if Windows needs confirmation or permission to continue.
    (22) Right-click the Recycle Bin and choose Empty Recycle Bin.
Now restart the PC and try another iTunes reinstall.
Any better luck with that attempt?

  • Error 1921 Ipod Service could not be stopped

I am trying to install Itunes 7.6 + Quicktime. On the download status screen it says Status: Stopping Service. The green activity bar stops and after awhile an error message pops up that says - Error 1921. Ipod Service could not be stopped. Verify that you have sufficient privileges to stop system services. It says retry and cancel. Pushing retry only results in the same error. I don't know what this means.

That can happen sometimes if the iTunes installer is having a hard time shutting down either iTunes or QuickTime (or applications using QuickTime) prior to the install. So let's try a "download, restart, then install” strategy.
    Leave any iPod unplugged.
Download and save a copy of the iTunes installer to your hard drive. (Do not run the install on line, and do not start the install by clicking on the iTunesSetup.exe (installer) file just yet.)
    Latest iTunes Installer
Shut down running applications and restart the PC.
Do not open any other applications prior to attempting the iTunes install. Switch off antivirus and antispyware applications prior to the install.
Now start the install by doubleclicking the iTunesSetup.exe file.
Does the install go through properly this time?

  • Can't install iTunes 9 on Vista. iPod services have stopped?

I can't installed iTunes 9 on my Windows Vista PC. When I try to install, the installation process gets to about 95% complete, then an error pops up saying "Serice 'iPod Sevice' (iPod Service) failed to start. Verify that you have sufficient privileges to start the service". I also get a Windows System error that says "iPod service module (64-bit) stopped working and was closed". I can't install iTunes 9 and can't find any answers. And yes, I'm installing iTunes as the system Admin. Any help would be appreciated.
    Thanks.

My problem is with Vista, but slightly different to the above.
I bought a new Vista PC yesterday and was able to download iTunes 8 to it.
I'm also still using my old XP PC until I get the Vista one properly set up. Last night I ran all iTunes/iPhone/iPod Touch updates successfully on the XP machine.
Today I am updating the Vista PC. Safari and Quick Time have downloaded.
iTunes itself reaches 98.7 of 98.8 verified and then fails.
The error message I am getting is ""The windows installer Service could not be accessed. This can occur if you are running in safe mode, or if the windows installer is not correctly installed. Contact your support personnel for assistance"
I have no idea what that means, does any Vista user know what the Windows Installer Service is and how I sort this out?
There is a pop appearing occasionally about setting up 'winlock' - I have no idea what that is (need to google to find out) so have ignored that until I understand what it is.
I've tried both running direct from the download and saving to my PC but still the same error message. Odd that the program installed yesterday but the updated version will not do so today.
    Any assistance would be appreciated.

  • I'm getting this error: Service "iPod Service" could not be stopped

When does this error message appear to you? (i.e., what were you doing that caused it to occur?)
If you're going to Task Manager to stop a Process called "iPodService.exe", you may need to go to an administrator user account on your computer to stop the process in Task Manager, not under a limited-account.

  • Error during iTunes 10 installation - iPod Service failed to start

    Hi Everyone,
I am getting this error during installation of iTunes 10(Windows XP).
+*"Service (iPod Service)failed to start.Verify that you have sufficient priveleges to start system services."*+
*Can any of you please help?* I ignored it first and continued with the installation. Then tried to update iphone to iOS 4.1 which crashed. I had to go to Apple store to get my iphone restored. I am having trouble installing itunes and cannot restore data from backup.
I tried uninstalling itunes and deleted all itunes data as suggested by the guy at the Apple store. Still not working. Will appreciate if someone can help resolve this error. Thanks.

I just got off the phone with Apple tech support. The problem with that iPod Service is a problem with XP Service Pack 3, but can be fixed this way:
    1. Right click on "My Computer", select "Properties"
    2. Click on the Advanced tab.
    3. in the Startup and Recovery section, click the Settings button.
    4. Click the Edit byutton to edit your boot.ini file in notepad.
    5. Look for "/noexecute=" in the file and change the word after the equals to "optin" (sorry - I don't remember what the original setting was anymore).
    6. Save the file, close notepad, click the OK button on Startup and Recovery window, then reboot.
The warning message about the iPod Service should stop. Also, this helps with iPhones that are not recognized by Windows or iTunes after an install fails.

  • Error message when installing service (ipod servic)

Well, why don't you manually stop the iPod service before you start the install? Right click on My Computer, select Manage, go to Service, select the iPod Service and stop it.

  • Help with iPod service error

    Greetings,
I had an issue where my Nano's battery got very low to the point that it was not recognized by my computer. I borrowed an AC charger and got it to charge and work fine but still not be recognized by my computer. I followed the instructions for downloading the HP USB formatter and when I tried to restore using updater 6/28 I get a service error and cannot restore. I tried turning off the fast switch option (which waas on in the past when the computer used to see the ipod in itunes) and then I tried removing itunes and reinstalling it and I get the same error message. It seems to me that the helper files that look for the ipod are missing. The iPod will respond to being reset and the computer recognizes it, but I cannot restore it. Is there a way to restore it without using the latest updater? Any help greatly appreciated.

the ipod-service/software-required error messages are typically caused by snarlups on the PC side of things.
the theory behind the registry entries version of this is a little sketchy. i've only encountered about ... ten at the outside? ... confirmed cases of this since Christmas. possibly it's associated with not running installations as an administrator, possibly with running the installs inside a different user account than itunes has already been installed in, possibly with security software interfering with registry changes during the install process.
if you do run into troubles with key editing, ProgMan and hutch's threads might be of some help:

  • ITunes 9.0 install problem: iPod service fails to start, installer quits

    Hi,
I tried to upgrade my iTunes from 8.XXX(I think it was latest 8) to 9.0 but run into this problem where the installer tries to start the iPod service and fails. The installer can not continue any more and it has to be rolled back. I uinstalled 8.xx and tried again but same result. I also tried the suggestion in another thread about stopping the AppleMobileDevice service and removing the folder but it did not help. This is the error message:
"Product: iTunes -- Error 1920. Service 'iPod Service' (iPod Service) failed to start. Verify that you have sufficient privileges to start system services."
I am logged in as the admin so I do have sufficient privileges.
Is any one having the same problem? How do I make it work? I am using Win XP-Pro SP3 32bit.
    Thanks

I was finally able to make it work. I did the following steps:
    1. Delete/unistall every thing related to Apple/iTunes
    2. Delete itunes folder if its still there.
    3. open MSCONFIG->General->check off 'Load Startup Items'->click 'ok'
    4. Reboot
    5. Install iTunes
    6. You can turn on Load Startup Items after iTunes installs.
Hope this help. Thanks for all the help. It sure was annoying!!!!

  • IPod Service Failing to Start and Priveleges

    Before
When iTunes 6.whatever was out, my iPod did not work at all, but I continued using iTunes for music.
    iTunes 7
I plug my iPod in and got the common message "iPod is corrupted. Press restore to restore it", etc. It never works.
    Why it doesn't work
It brings the message "Servie 'iPod Service' failed to start. Verify that you have sufficient privledges to start system services"
Any help? How do I get these 'priveleges'?
    ?   Windows XP

I had been experiencing this error for a long time since iTunes 7 released. I tried different ways to resolve it. Untill today, I found a possible resolution and sucsessfully install iTunes 7.3.1.3. I think that might be helpful.
First, remove all previrous itunes and install the lates t release. You will stuck when trying to start iPod service. Open c:\program files\iPod\bin. You will see iPodService. Double click it. If you got an error about a .dll file (mine is setupapi.dll), remember it and you can continue....
2nd, put xp disk in dvd/cd-rom. Open C:\WINDOWS\system32 and locate the .dll file and rename it. This moment, your cd is running trying to rebuild the dll file just renamed.
3rd, when cd-rom stop running. Retry to start service again. Good luck, I hope you can resolve it.
I checked some microsoft KB for this error. This might happen when xp system been customized or dll file corrupted.

  • Please Help - "iPod service failed to start...."

I have an iPod mini. I have Windows XP. I needed to upgrade my iTunes to get a song I really wanted. And this is what happened...
-It was 'registering iPod service and a window pops up and says "Could not start service"
    -I hit "OK"
-After a minute or two, a window pops up and says 'iPod service failed to start. Verify that you have sufficiant privileges to start system services'
    What do I Do?
    iPod Mini   Windows XP

it then said "Could not update environment variable 'PATH'. Verify that you have sufficient privilages to modify environment variables."
that's fairly exotic on a 7.0.x install. (for some reason there have been all manner of kinky error messages showing up for folks over the last couple of days. i'm having to say "exotic" a lot.)
okay, let's try working through the general troubleshooting advice from the following document:
Trouble installing iTunes or QuickTime software in Windows
... but if no joy there, let's get an itunes 7 installer log to the Apple engineers for a look.
    1. Open a command prompt window. (Start menu -> Run. Type in "cmd". Hit return.)
    2. Drag and drop iTunesSetup.exe onto the window so that the full pathname of the file is at the command line prompt.
    3. Type in a space, then the following line:
    /l*v C:\log.txt
    4. Hit return.
    5. The installer will create a log file:
    C:\log.txt
Find that file and send it as an attachment to this email address.
in the email to Roy, be sure to include the following information:
    - A link to the thread on Apple Discussions where the issue is being discussed
    - The username you are using in the thread
    - The version of iTunes you are using or trying to use
    - the version of Windows you are using (mention service packs)
    - A concise description of the issue you are seeing
    - The exact text of the error message you are seeing
