Stopping unwanted RSS feeds

I recently had my mail and address book upgraded by the Genius bar staff and I cannot stop two feeds that appeared in the left hand column of mail HOT APPLE NEWS & BBC. In Mail Preferences> RSS the default is safari & manual and in Rules there is no RSS rules to delete. Any clues? they just keep coming and its getting annoying. I have deleted all the RSS feeds in bookmarks in safari to no avail.
Is it best to reselect then delete?

Amen!! I don't want to receive these either, but can't find a way to turn RSS off in Mail.

  • Delete unwanted RSS feed?

How do I delete an unwanted (and uninvited) RSS feed?
An RSS feed suddenly appeared in my Safari RSS reader list. That was odd enough, but when I deleted it from my list of feeds in my Safari bookmarks, it's still showing up in my feed.
How do I delete an item from my RSS feed list?
Second question, I wonder how this one got there in the first place?

    HI Bruce
From the Safari Menu Bar click Safari/Preferences and select the RSS tab.
You can set all your RSS preferences from that pane.

  • Mail has completely stopped updating RSS feeds

I have numerous RSS feeds subscribed to in Mail, and they have all stopped updating (for several days now).
Trying to manually tell them to update does nothing. Also, if I try and add new feeds, it doesn't even grab the articles in the new feeds.
Anyone know how to reset this?

Unfortunately I don't have a great answer for you.
Once I found the folder inside the root level Library/Syndication. Another time I found it inside Users/Library/Syndication. When I had the problem, I trashed this folder, then relaunched Mail.
I still have the problem once in a while, and either Syndication folder has not been re-created. When it happens, I quit and relaunch Mail, and it seems to clear it up.
It's really a pain in the neck. I don't know what's causing it. I don't know what else to suggest if you've already trashed both/either Syndication folders and then quit and restarted Mail.

  • ?How do I Remove RSS Feeds from my Email account?

I set up some RSS feeds in my mac email account?
Please don't tell me to "right-click" my mouse because I am using a macbook and I have no mouse, just the track-pad and right-clicking it does nothing different than left-clicking it. Or for that matter, than standing on my head and singing Celine Dion. Other than annoying my girlfriend.
I have tried setting my preferences to manual update, even to making Safari the default RSS reader but I can't remove the feeds themselves from the email account.
I have a Macbook, use Safari, Leopard, OS X 10.5 if that helps.
    Thanks in advance,
    Keith

Dude, first the right-click thing... You can achieve the equivalent by holding down the control key and clicking -- you'll see a contextual menu pop up. Cool, huh?
Now, control-click on that unwanted RSS feed and choose delete feed. Happy day!

  • Error updating RSS feed, email and calendar

About 2 weeks ago my Droid X running Gingerbread, stopped updating RSS feeds, email and calendar but other apps/widgets seem to work fine.
If I go in to the RSS feed and try to subscribe to a new feed I get the following error message, "Can't add news subscription now. Try again later."
Also noticed that Check for update gives "Check for update is not available at this time. Try again later."
My thought was to try to manually reinstall Gingerbread.  Followed instructions found on other forum sites but when trying to reload GB from recovery I get the following error:
    "Installing update...
    assert failed: file_get.prop("/system build.prop", "ro.build.fingerprint") == "verizon/shadow_vzw/cdma_shadow/shadow:2.2.1/VZW/23.340:user/ota-rel-keys, release-keys" || file_getprop("/system/build.prop", "ro.build.fingerprint") == "verizon/shadow_vzw/cdma_shadow:2.3.3/4.5.1_57_DX5-18/110410:user/release-keys"
    E:Error in /tmp/sideload/package.zip
    (Status 7)
    Installation aborted."
I am trying to avoid a factory reset of the phone but would appreciate any help/suggestions that anyone has.

    Hello tjoreilly,
Thanks for providing your experience on refreshing the RSS feeds on your device. Based on the information you have given and what Cody21 previously stated, I recommend as factory reset also. Before doing a reset, I suggest verifying that your contacts are saved on Gmail and/or backup assistant and calendars are backed up on your Gmail account. This is  to ensure that your personal info can easily be restored after the factory reset. Any digital media, like pictures and videos, will be saved on your memory card & won't be erased unless you wish to do so.
Once the reset is done, try to access and update your RSS feed to your preference to confirm that the issue is resolved. If so, please respond to this posting so other can benefit from your experience. If not, then feel free to elaborate on your experience after the reset so we can further assist.
    Thank you...

  • Mail reloads old RSS feed items

About once a week or so, Mac Mail will hang up and stop retrieving RSS feeds.
Then it will start up again, but bring through 100s of old articles that i'll have to wade through and delete.
    Any ideas why this happens?

To diagnose problems with Thunderbird, try one of the following:
*Restart Thunderbird with add-ons disabled (Thunderbird Safe Mode). On the Help menu, click on "Restart with Add-ons Disabled". If Thunderbird works like normal, there is an Add-on or Theme interfering with normal operations. You will need to re-enable add-ons one at a time until you locate the offender.
*Restart the operating system in '''[http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Safe_mode safe mode with Networking]'''. This loads only the very basics needed to start your computer while enabling an Internet connection. Click on your operating system for instructions on how to start in safe mode: [http://windows.microsoft.com/en-us/windows-8/windows-startup-settings-including-safe-mode Windows 8], [http://windows.microsoft.com/en-us/windows/start-computer-safe-mode#start-computer-safe-mode=windows-7 Windows 7], [http://windows.microsoft.com/en-us/windows/start-computer-safe-mode#start-computer-safe-mode=windows-vista Windows Vista], [http://www.microsoft.com/resources/documentation/windows/xp/all/proddocs/en-us/boot_failsafe.mspx?mfr=true" Windows XP], [http://support.apple.com/kb/ht1564 OSX]
; If safe mode for the operating system fixes the issue, there's other software in your computer that's causing problems. Possibilities include but not limited to: AV scanning, virus/malware, background downloads such as program updates.

  • I just wanted to know how to stop loading of rss feeds automatically ? In prior to FF 11 the rss feeds would display if there was no internet connection

I just wanted to know how to stop loading of rss feeds automatically ? In prior to FF 11 the rss feeds would display if there was no internet connection but now in newer version it would say live bookmark failed to load and doesn't display any feeds, in previous version it would atleast display feeds but in newer version it won't display anything:(

hello Nitin1234, the handling of live bookmarks was changed quite fundamentally starting in firefox 13 & upwards in order to improve the overall performance of the browser - now rss feeds won't get updated in the background anymore but will only be fetched when you're actively accessing them. this is probably leading to the unwanted side-effect that you're experiencing, unfortunately i don't know any way around that.
nevertheless please [[Update Firefox to the latest version|update firefox to the latest version]] (16.0.1 at the moment) to stay secure on the web, since there have been many [https://www.mozilla.org/security/known-vulnerabilities/firefox.html highly critical vulnerabilities fixed] since firefox 11/13!

  • RSS feed reader stopped working

    Hi,
I have an RSS feed reading function that worked just fine until yesterday.  I grab an RSS feed from google news using cfhttp and then parse it using XMLParse.  I am attaching the code below.
Does anyone know if anything changed at Google or somewhere else that would cause my code to stop working?  Instead of the expected results, I see the browser saying the page is loading but never get any results.
Perhaps there is a parameter I never set in the CFHTTP line and skated by without it for all this time.  It is definitely hanging up on the CFHTTP call.
    Thanks for the help.
With relation to the code, the search term I am using is "football" and the searchtype is "AND".

  • Iweb rss feed stopped working

About a week ago all of my RSS feeds made through the RSS iWeb Widget stopped working. Some research brought me here: SyntaxError: Unexpected identifier 'any' (anonymous function) www.icloud.com:1
Is Apple not supporting it anymore? That would be a disaster
Message was edited by: Idiot Media

Well yes, the fact that Apple has not supported iWeb for the last 3 years is old news!!  Apple has not sold or supported iWeb for at least 3 years and iWeb has not been updated for at least 6 years.
The longer you continue to use iWeb and technology moves forward, the more likely you are to get things that don't work as expected.
Perhaps it is now time to ditch iWeb in favour of alternative software that is actually supported?
There is a lot out there - RapidWeaver, Sandvox, Freeway Pro/Express, WebAcappella 4, Flux V and EverWeb.
With most of these you can try before you buy.

  • RSS feeds in Mail stopped working

Out of nowhere my RSS feeds stopped working. They dont update. I have about 20 feeds, most of which update 10+ times a day and they have not been updated in over 24 hours. I've restarted my computer, tried to manually update, changed the RSS settings in prefs... nothing works. This makes no sense. I love having my feeds in my mail, but Im way behind on stuff now. Anyone know what sup?

My RSS feeds stopped in Safari as well.
As a temporary measure I'm using the news reader widget that came with the OS.
The feeds still work through it.
    Sorry, not any help.

  • RSS-feeds stopped working

    Hello.
All of a sudden all RSS-feeds stopped loading. No RSS counts, Safari doesn't load anything when I click on one. I have tried resetting, removing the preference file, repairing permissions. Nothing seems to help.
I could add that they work perfectly well on my wife's account and a restart didn't do any good either.
I use 2.0.2 and have 152 feeds at the moment. Too many?
    Anyone know what to do?
    Rikard

    Hi rickb
good work on what you've tried so far... I'd suggest cleaning or removing System caches - you might try this... http://www.northernsoftworks.com/snowleopardcachecleaner.html since I've seen it recommended here before.
Failing that, although on paper it mightn't help in this case : try a Safe Boot - holding down the Shift key as your mac starts - then restart normally.

  • Can I stop Apple Hot News RSS feeds?

    Hi
Can I unsubscribe from the Apple Hot News RSS feeds? I don't read them and really don't know how I signed up for them in the first place! If someone could tell me how to stop them appearing in my inbox that would be great.
    Many thanks

I am fairly certain you can do this by simply deleting the feed. You can "right click" on the feed and select delete. That should do it.
I also stumbled upon a listing in the Preferences. You go to Rules. (Click the arrows pointing to the right.) and there is a listing for Apple News. I don't know what that is but it looks like it can be deleted if you need to. I hesitate to delete something if I don't know what it does.
BTW - Let me just say I am a new Mac user so don't take what I say as gospel.

  • Safari stops loading after opening my RSS feeds

When I want to open all my RSS feeds in Safari, it starts to load, but after about 1 to 2 min, all my pages stop loadind. The address bar is then "half blue" ...
In FF everything works fine, so network (airport) works fine.
Anybody out there who can help.
    Cheers,
    Bart
    Powerbook g4   Mac OS X (10.4.9)

    Hi
    Welcome to Apple Discussions
If this is happening only when accessing the RSS feeds, go to your Home>Library>Syndication folder and move the database3 file to the desktop. Then restart Safari and try the feeds.
If Safari works as intended, it means the RSS database file was corrupted (a new one is created automatically on the Safari restart). In that case you'll need to reset for each feed any custom page sorting you may have set up. If no go, move the database file back to its original location.
Instead, go to the same Library>Preferences, moving the following two files to the desktop:
    com.apple.Syndication.plist
    com.apple.SyndicationAgent.plist
Then restart Safari and try the feeds.

  • Mail rss feed has stopped updating

my RSS feed in Mail has stopped updating. The last updates were on August 10. Has anyone else experienced this problem?

Same here for a couple of weeks now. Only thing that helps is restarting mail. As seen from all the complaints here, it is a random problem and is continuing for some time now. And i think there will be no help from Apple since they have decided in there wisdom to drop the RSS feeds in the mail app all together from the newer OSX versions. I'm on OSX 10.6.8.

  • RSS Feeds have stopped updating

Recently my RSS feeds have stopped updating.
Maybe post 10.4.5 Combo update (have run twice)
Once feeds have been read they do not update. Tried deleting safari prefs, syndication folder.
This cures for the first initial update then all feed stop again.
    Anyone have any ideas ???
    Cheers

    Simon,
There is a lot of information on this problem in this thread: http://discussions.apple.com/thread.jspa?messageID=1498326&#1498326
It has been around since 10.4.4. For many of us (me included) the problem seems to be having .Mac bookmark synching turned on. If you have bookmark synching turned on, try turning it off and seeing what happens. Also, some people are reporting that changing the sync frequency from "automatic" to "every hour" (or presumably the other settings would work, too) corrects the problem as of 10.4.5. It would be nice, of course, if Apple would just correct the problem altogether.
