Storage/archiving projects any ideas?!!!

Hi out there......this is just an overall question that I am hoping that someone could answer for me.
I do want to keep all of my projects but as you all know, video files are quite large. I have bought an external hard drive but that is getting very full. Can anyone give some suggestions on what you do to archive your projects.
PS> What my projects consist of are photos montages created in "photo to movie", then I create a dv file then import it into iMovie, then after I have fine tuned everything, I share it to iDVD. When I save my projects to my exteranl hard drive, I delete the folder of photos and the dv files.....I only keep the imovie & iDVD projects but that is still alot to keep.
In the past, I had used a DVD recorder to record each project off of the timeline and then save each project as a chapter-finalizing each one...this way I would put alot of different projects on one DVD.
But this was in the past (on a PC) and I do not have a dvd recorder anymore......Anyone have any suggestions???

I would NEVER erase the original digital stills! ... which usally have a much better resolution, more 'detail' in their raw status than a iM/dv file (which has by standard only 720x480 pix.. a third megapixel...)
and, if you don't do excessive 'modding' on your iDVDs (changing backgrounds, adding own movs as menu, modifying buttons etc.), I see no need to keep the iDVD projects.. you can copy any homebrewn DVDs with your Mac (keep a 'Master' of any DVD..) .-
keep the tapes, keep the iM projects (if you ever change them....) on some HDD..

"unable to open project" Any ideas how I might get it back?

I am not able to open a project i was working on this morning.
I have no idea why. They only thing I can think of is that after I finished
the project, I saved it to one folder in the drive.
Later, however, I changed my mind and decided to move the project to
a different folder. I got a message something about having to log in as administrator in order to be able to transfer the project from one folder to another, which I thought was weird.
So, now, when I tried to open the project from within FCP,
I get "unable to open project."
And I can't find the project anywhere in my computer.
Does anyone have any idea why this is happening?
More importantly, can i bring back my project?
I checked the "Autovault folder, but it wasn't there either.

Look in the Scratch Disk Settings. Look to see where you're autosaves are kept, and see if there's one there... if you change the location of this folder, you end up with one for each location. So do look where they are currently set to save.
If you have none at all, why not? Did you turn off the autosave feature?

Project (movie) not showing up in trash when I delete it from iMovie (version 10.0.4). Thus, I can't figure out how to permanently delete it from the hard drive. I'm running out of hard drive space fast! Any ideas?

It's an iMovie Library file that you need to search for. By default iMovie Library files are in the Movies folder.

I keep getting emails telling me that I have used 14.5GB of my 15GB but all of my devices say that I have only used 7.2GB. Any ideas how to fix this?

I have not changed anything with any of my iOS devices (iPhone 4s, iPad2) or my Macbook Pro. I have 3.21GB out of 5GB of storage space free so I dont understand why this has happened.

Recently my iMac has replaced (in finder, iPhoto, messenger) all my month dates with 'Jan'. Any ideas?

My iMac has changed all my dates to 5 Jan 13 in iPhoto, finder and in Yahoo messenger archives. Any ideas? All other operating systems seem to be normal.

Have you verified that the iPhoto applications is not in the Applications folder or somewhere else on the hard drive?
To do so download and use Find Any File to search for "iPhoto.app" because FAF can search areas that Spotlight can't. If the application is somewhere else on the HD FAF will find it. However, I doubt that it will be there but it's worth a search.

It's supposed to show up as a camera because it is a camera. Additionally, you won't be able to sync your music from your iphone back to iTunes... media sync is one way... iTunes to the iPhone.

Try deleting the old backup.
Settings>iCloud>Storage & Backup>Manage Storage, tap the device name and on the resulting screen, scroll down and tap on Delete Backup.

Storage values under about this mac displaying incorrectly, but amount of space used IS correct. Any ideas?

I noticed recently that the "storage" under "about this mac" is displaying incorrectly. It doesn't show the correct values for my photos, videos, and audio files. It classifies this data under "other". I have been searching all over the internet, I went to the Apple genius bar yesterday and they recommended I re-install OSX. I did and it still shows up incorrectly. They were baffled, said they never really came across this issue. I have tried re-indexing spotlight, that didn't seem to help.
The amount of storage used IS correct. It just doesn't show up under the correct categories in storage, under about this mac. Also, the computer seems to work fine. No real issues. It's a mid 2012 MBP. 500gb hard drive. Most recent OSX is installed.
I DO NOT think it is local snapshots, cause my backups category is small and the amount of space used and free is correct. I have downloaded omnidisk sweeper to confirm this.
I have seen a few posts on here and around the web referring to this, but no real answers. I have also reviewed Pondini's info on this to no avail.
Does anyone have any ideas?!?!

I had installed a version of parallels with windows 7, but deleted it. Would parallels be causing my computer to index incorrectly? I I used appcleaner to delete all the parallels files so I do not have it anymore.

Try turning off the Camera Roll option in Settings>iCloud>Backup & Storage>Manage Storage>Your device. Then turn it back on again.

When I forgot my password for home screen and it disabled my iPod, i had to reset my iPod. My iCloud had saved all of my data such as photos in storage or something. But I do not know how to access these photos. Any ideas?

How do i access my photos that were saved in icloud storage from before i had to reset everything. I know the photos can still somehow be accessed because icloud showed that space was being taken up for photos straight after i had reset the device and there were no photos there on the device at the time. While creating a project in Garage Band my sample tracks were cut short then overwritten in soundtrack pro. Any ideas why? and how to get my tracks back?

I never opened soundtrack pro to edit the track just Garage band....the track just mysteriously saved as half the track.
I am running Lion and I upgraded my Garage band to '11 hoping it would resolve the issue...it didn't. Now I can't find that tracks at all.
The 2 songs having the issue are titled Exotic Yearning and Reunion.
I am in the process of reinstalling the audio content from my discs. I just don't want to run into this again.
Any thoughts and help would be greatly appreciated!

After spending some time reinstalling the soundtrack pro 3 content I opened the full track called Reunion.
It showed back up in Garage Band.*It was the full track and wasn't chopped off until I dragged it onto the project. Then it showed up chopped.
Then I closed Garaged band and opened soundtrack pro 3....The song was again chopped off at the 1:33min mark

Unfortunately, not much to go on here. There are any of twenty different reasons why backups are not occurring, and no shortcuts that I know of to find out why.

Some users notice on exporting larger projects from within iMovie that this operation is aborted with an 'error -49'
This issue occours only on MacOs machines using 10.7x
try switching-off the Local Mobile Backup
in Terminal copy/paste
sudo tmutil disablelocal
Re-launch Mac
