Storage area for backup

Hi,
i want to configure backups for my database, for that i need more storage area required as i dont have much space allocated in the servers.
can any one let me know if i want to configure RMAN, where should i allocate the storage , is that flash recover area or where sholud i allocate the storage inorder to configure the RMAN.
please adivse, thanks in advance.

Have you started to look at the documentation yet?
http://download.oracle.com/docs/cd/B19306_01/backup.102/b14193/toc.htm#i766400
That is the link to the Quick Start Guide. Go through it first and see if it answers your questions. If not come back and ask some more.
You ask where you should allocate the storage. That is totally up to you where you have space.
You don't "have" to use the flash recovery area...as can be seen from the documentation it is optional:
Some environments will also use these optional components:
A flash recovery area, a disk location in which the database can store and manage files related to backup and recovery;
You can also see from the Advance Users Guide
http://download.oracle.com/docs/cd/B19306_01/backup.102/b14191/rcmconc1.htm#i1006751
Information such as:
Storage of Backups on Disk and Tape
RMAN can create backups on disk or a third-party media device such as a tape drive. If you specify DEVICE TYPE DISK, then your backups are created on disk, in the file name space of the target instance that is creating the backup. You can make a backup on any device that can store a datafile.
To create backups on non-disk media, such as tape, you must use third-party media management software, and allocate channels with device types, such as SBT, that are supported by that software.

  • Storage area for GUI status Z_FI_UPLOAD_FIDOC 100 too small

    Hi,
I have created a program for uploading and posting open items aso. I've gathered items in an internal tables and tried to display on ALV list with tree for correct and incorrect items. When table contains more than 1000 items ( not all in one document but 2 items for every single doc), ALV displays but after awhile I get the error message 'Storage area for GUI status Z_FI_UPLOAD_FIDOC 100 too small' and next step process leaves the program to initial SAP screen without dump. Error doesn't occur when item lines less than 1000. The detailed message is:
+Storage area for GUI status Z_FI_UPLOAD_FIDOC 100 too small
    Message no. 00261
    Diagnosis
The memory area of the basis software for the GUI status is too small for the requested status.  The following is stored in this area:
    Administration information in fixed length
Menu structure, F keys and push buttons of a status
The texts of the complete interface (not just of the status)
The active and the requested Excluding list (SET PF-STATUS... EXCLUDING ...).
    System Response
Termination as presumably the system is unable to continue processing.
    Procedure
A short-term solution might consist of leaving off the EXCLUDING for the current SET PF-STATUS...
Clear up the interface affected: in the Menu Painter (Transaction SE41), choose Utilities -> Unused objects.
If it is an interface with a large number of statuses, it may be possible to take the interface apart.
This is often possible for interfaces belonging to a function group that supplies GUI statuses for multiple programs (these programs call up function modules of the group that mainly contain a SET PF-STATUS command).
If the above solutions will not work, your system administrator will have to enlarge the profile parameter "ztta/cua_area".
Note that profile parameter "ztta/short_area" must be at least 6 times as large as "ztta/cua_area".+
There is no unused object in my GUI. Is it connecting with number of items or should I ask system admin to enlarge mentioned parameters?
Thanks for quick reply in advance,
    György

  • Storage Area for GUI status is too small

    Hi Experts,
I have developed a custom program in which i ahev my own GUI status for the modal dialog box.
At certain point I am getting error "Storage Area for GUI status is too small"
What is the solution for this?
    Thanks.

    Hi Klas,
I am getting the error as Storage Area of GUI Stattus "PROGRAM MAME" "GUI STATUS NAME" too small.
I did not mention the program name and gui status name .
    Mean;
I do not have any push buttons. While I am creating teh order for each item it will popup teh custom screen to select something.
When the number of items becomes more I am getting that issue.
As it calls the BUI status each time, the memory gets full and hence gives that message.
If you know the exact solution plz reply back.
    Thanks

Most of these devices are designed specifically so that you can add additional JBODs. It depends upon the configuration, but usually the new disk system will be connected to an external port, so it's just a case of adding to the existing setup. The maximum numberthat you can addwill again depend upon the original device, but most of them support multiple boxes. However, I would also suggest that it's worth checking to see if some of the backups are no longer required; and don't forget to test the backups to make sure that you can actually recover. Although this may sound crazy, I know of a place where they were backing up about 60 TB; and when I asked, they had performed a check in sometime other than to restore a single file or folder and insisted that this was sufficient evidence that it worked. When they had a major problem with two...

  • Storage device for backup

    hi all,
what is the best option for a storage device to be used in place of a wifi time capsule?

I was born in La Jolla.
What model MBP do you have and what type of ports do you have on your computer? I wouldn't invest in a Time Capsule unless you just have to have the wifi backup. I'd get something simple like a FireWire 800 (if you've a 800 port) external hard drive and use Time Machine to store and manage backups. Time Machine is a no-brainer. You'll want to purchase an external drive of at least 2-3x the storage capacity as your internal.
Let us know what ports you have available and someone can recommend specific drives.

  • Where is the default Physical Storage Area for Photos?

I can edit some photos by accessing them in the Catalog but when I want to access them directly, ie for email attachments using Windows Directory they are not physically there so I had to go back into CSE 7 Editor and resave it so I can access it.  Is there a PSE default location where these may exist?  The location path provided in PSE 7 is the Catalog but I realize that Catalog is not a physical location and of course they are not their.   Does PSE 7 have a means of displaying the physical location?  This problem only applies to a few photos not my major downloads from my camera.
    Thank you
    George.

The photos must be on your hard drive somewhere. In some installations, the default is the "My Pictures" folder, but that varies from operation system to operating system and is easily changed.
If you select a photo in the Organizer and right-click on it and select Show Properties, it will show you the folder location of that photo. Don't bother doing that ... there's a better solution. Forget about what folder the photo is in ... when you want to access the photo for e-mailing or uploading, select the photo(s) in the PSE Organizer, and the File->Export->As New Files and have these photo(s) exported to a temporary location. From there, e-mail, or upload, or whatever, and when you are finished, you can delete these exported photos. As I said, for this to work, you don't need to know the actual location of the photos, you only need to know that temporary folder name.

  • Hashmap which has 5 storage area for every index.

I want to store 5 seperate datas for every hashmap index... And if i write a data strorage class and save every instance to the hashmap, is it logical and fast enough?
    For example:
    HashMap.Put("mystorage1",new Store5Data(data1,data2,data3,data4,data5))
If this way is not ok how can i implement this with the ready classes or packages?
    Thank you

The attiribute names was just an example.
I will define this mapping for the servlet front controller. HashMap will be static final and all variables will be predefined as static final when the application starts.
I will make urlrewriting and flood control by this mechanism
Hashmap index will be the url pattern defined in web.xml Exmp:if url is www.mydomain.com/photos/432 hashmap index value will be photos
Data1=the jsp file where photos will refer to
Data2=the parameter where 432 is owned by. For exmp ?id=432
    Data3=another parameter maybe
Data4=Servlet processing heavyness. It means when a servlet has value 1 its the minimum heavyness and if 5 its te most heavyness. When calling servlets frequently i will make session based flood control acoording to this value.
    Data5=there may be something else...
I am implementing this and i will just fetch datas from hashmap. Inserting is just for one time at the begining of the application

  • 2 balance sheet and 1 storage area

    Hi All,
We have a running SAP system with one company code and 1 plant.
We have a different financier that will finance the next phase of the project and hence need to see the accounting entries separately.
Both the running plant and the new project will share a warehouse/storage location.
Please suggest an enterprise structure in which MRP can be run in total and yet we can create 2 separate balance sheets.
    Thanks.

    Hi All,
What I am basically saying is that there is a need to have 2 company codes and one plant each.
This is simply because the people funding are different and hence need to see 2 different balance sheets.
The storage area for the material is common as the 2 company codes are in the same vicinity.
The materials will have the same material number and the stocking levels will take into consideration the demand for both the plants.
How can MRP be made common across the company codes?
    Thanks!

  • Interim storage area taken in sales orders

    Hi all!
The sales orders of my client is taking materials in 9** interim storage area, for example, when material is in 902 (GR area). Is there any possibility to restrict the sales order to take materials in count from this areas? Should take only from physical areas.
The release is SAP ECC 6.0
    Thanks for any help.

    Hi Guys
I think we are losing the thread here.
Whilst the majority of our answers are correct I think I now 'get' the issue.
When creating the Sales order and carrying out your 'check' the system is saying that there is stock available.
THIS IS TRUE the stock IS available. Your check is carried out in IM and does not see 902 or 922 or 001 or ant st type.
In IM the stock is either here or it is not.
    Your choices are as follows
'Block' the stock on receipt so that it is not included.
Use inbound deliveries and put away in WM FIRST and then Post goods receipt in to IM or the simple answer is
Put the stock away in a timely manner and there is no issue but just to reiterate the stock IS available the system is not wrong and even if you set up the individual st types as suggested this just means that it will not pick from there but will not fix the issue.
    I hope that this helps

  • Create Interim Storage Area

What are the steps to creating an Interim storage area?
I cannot get past the first screen in LX20, after I enter my warehouse number, neither 'execute' nor 'enter' will take me to the next screen.  If I choose to 'post', then it just takes me to a screen with options that ask me for Variant Names and Meanings.
What I am trying to do is create an interim storage area for the transfer of materials from one storage location (non-WM), to a storage bin in WM.  Will I have to create a new storage area to interact with this Interim storage area and my warehouse number?

    Hi ,
sorry,i thought you are taking about MVT 210. But instead your WH no is 210 ???? And it is not maintained in T333A .
That means you have not defined shipment types in that warehouse . Tell me how do you created this warehouse ? It will be very difficult to you if you have not created it correctly . Always copy from a standard warehouse . Now to create shipment goto
IMG -- LE--> Warehouse management >Activities>Transfers-->Define Shipment Types  and define E against 210 warehouse there .
But my suggestion is copy the tables , structures from one standard warehouse to your 210 warehouse so that you don't have to maintain all these . Because there are thousands of settings . To do so
goto IMG >Enterprise Structure>Definition>Logistics Execution>Define, copy, delete, check warehouse number>Copy/delete/check warehouse number>now click on COPY AS -
give From warehouse 001 and TO warehouse 210.

  • Negetive stocks in 999 storage area

    Hi Gurus,
Please advice my idea about negetive stokc is to balance between IM and WM.
when the system shows negetive stock practically i want to know.plz give me one scenario.
i tried to Issue, one material which is zero stock, but system is not allowing to issue the goods, bec of defiiciency of stock.
totally wht is the use of negetive stock.
I want to allow only 999 interim storage area for negetive stock not all others. if I do the same what is the use.
    Thanks in advance.
    r

    Hi,
In WM normally negative stocks will be allowed in Interim bins which are just imaginary bins. when you do a goods issue to production or cost center etc.. system will generate a TR & normally the stock in interim bin will become negative. The same will be adjusted when you create & confirm a Transfer Order against the above TR which is nothing but you are issuing the material from the actual bin to the interim bin (which ultimately knocks off the negative qty in the interim bin & the stock in interim bin will again become 0).
    Hope its clear.
    Thanks & Regards,

iCloud doesn't give you more storage on your device, it only gives you more storage in iCloud to sync data, store your backups, etc.  If you're running out of space on your iPad you'll have to delete some data off your iPad to free it up, such as syncing some of your music or other media off your iPad.
You can check how much free space is available on your iPad by going to Settings>General>Usage and looking at the Available number at the top.

  • I have deleted hundreds of pictures, I've deleted apps, deleted emails and texts, and I've turned off and deleted backups of apps on icloud and it is still telling me that there is not enough icloud storage available for my phone to be back

I have deleted hundreds of pictures, I've deleted apps, deleted emails and texts, and I've turned off and deleted backups of apps on icloud and it is still telling me that there is not enough icloud storage available for my phone to be backed up. I am supposed to do this before I go to the Apple store today to get my phone fixed. Can someone please help me? I have done almost everything.

This article explains ways to reduce your iCloud storage: Managing your iCloud storage.  In addition to what's mentioned in the article, if you have lots of photos and videos attached to your text messages, these are all included in your iCloud backup and deleting them can sometimes significantly reduce the size of your backup.
If worse comes to worse, back up your phone to your computer rather than iCloud.  To do this, connect it to your computer, open iTunes and go to File>Devices>Back Up and to File>Devices>Transfer Purchases.  This can be used to restore your data when you get your phone back.  (In fact, it's faster because you don't have to download the data from iCloud.)

  • Can i use the time capsule for storage or just backup?

I asked my husband to go and buy a separate harddrive so that we could use to store all of our photos on separately as opposed to the computer (as its full and we cant download any more photos!). He came back with the Time Capsule.
from what i can understand it can only be used for backups and not for direct stoarge - is this correct? Im hoping that i can use it for storage and somehow copy all my photos from my Mac onto the Time Capsule and then we can access them from the network which i just created with the Time Capsule
Or do i need to buy something else?
    appreciate anyones help
    Thanks

It is far from ideal. But it does depend on what you are doing. Are you going to store you iphoto library on the TC then it is not recommended.
    Store files on the TC.
    https://discussions.apple.com/message/24380694#24380694
This is asked several times a day.. obviously people are struggling with their latest SSD being too small.
The TC is not suitable for network file server.. but many people having no choice press it into service as such.
It cannot be partitioned. It was and is and ever shall be a backup device for Time Machine.
    Major issues.
    1. No backup.. no way Time Machine can backup a network drive. No place to backup to.. So all your files will be at risk. And you will need to buy a third party like CCC to do backup.
    2. The TC cannot be partitioned and mixing TM backups and data is not great.
    3. The drive is slow to spin up and quick to spin down.. there is no controls.
    4. iPhoto in particular can easily corrupt its entire library with wireless networking causing a disconnection to one photo. Even if you do this;;; do not move your photo library... you have been warned!!
    5. iTunes will constantly lose connection to the library. The disk is too slow to respond.. itunes on the computer will constantly spit out errors. Even in the midst of streaming the TC can spin down the disk due to caching.
    6. Do not use any live files on the TC no matter what else you do.. if you edit files in whatever program the file must be on the local hard disk.
    7. The only suitable location for most libraries is a computer. You can plug in an external hard disk.
Read pondini for some work arounds.
    Q3 here. http://pondini.org/TM/Time_Capsule.html

  • Using a partitionned cache with off-heap storage for backup data

    Hi,
Is it possible to define a partitionned cache (with data into the heap) with off-heap storage for backup data ?
I think it could be worthwhile to do so, as backup data are associated with a different access pattern.
If so, what are the impacts of such off-heap storage for backup data ?
Particularly, what are the impacts on performance ?
    Thanks.
