Storage Capacity iTunes U

Hello,
There's been one other discussion about this but it's from 2007 and it's been archived so i thought i'd ask again.
My school is considering several different ways of publishing course materials on the web and of course iTunes U is something that's supported by most of those invoved as a viable option. However our IT staff is firmly against it saying that they wouldnt need to have apple servers on campus to host content otherwise the size of our course media is limted, ( i suspect they are refering to the 500gb limit i keep finding about)
Is there any official apple documentation supporing this 500gb limit or has that increased? I keep seeing 500 but all of that is at least 4-5 years old and i suspect apple may have changed some of these limits or is allowing for purchase of more space as needed? anyone?
thank you

500GB of combined storage for those sites with Apple hosting of collections. Collections can be hosted by the provider via industry standard RSS 2.0 feeds <http://deimos.apple.com/rsrc/doc/UsingiTunesUPublicSiteManager/AboutCollectionPa ges/chapter_6_section_2.html#//apple_ref/doc/uid/iTUPSM-CH6-SW3>.
Course content can be uploaded/hosted by Apple.
-Thanks

  • My iPhone still has low storage capacity inspite of getting iTunes Match -

I recently got iTunes match  - hoping to get more storage space in my iPhone . My IPhone still shows 6.3 GB of stored music with still minimal capacity for further storage(550 MB)
Was I wrong in presuming I would get more storage capacity by putting my music on iTunes Match.

    Welcome to the Apple Community.
Even though you have iTunes Match, you will still need to delete music from the phone to create more space, although iTunes Match will automatically delete your least played music automatically when more space is needed on the phone.

  • Storage capacity of iTunes on an iPhone

Before I buy and iPhone I would like to know what is the storage capacity of iTunes is on the iPhone, average # of songs. I have 2700 songs stored on my iPod; the AT&T store rep said the iphone wouldn't hold that much but he couldn't tell me what it would hold. Also I understand that music playback uses lots of battery, is this true?

What capacity iPhone are you considering?
My 32GB iPhone 3GS currently has 2552 songs on it and is nowhere near full. It also has 2 TV series and 5 movies, plus 71 applications and 209 photos with 7.7GB free.
It all depends on what quality and length these songs you have are, and the capacity of iPhone you get.
    On a 32GB iPhone you'll easily fit 2700 songs.
Music playback does not use lots of battery. Out of all the things the iPhone can do, music playback is possibly one of the least power hungry.

  • Storage capacity is stated as being full, but all audio, video, apps, docs, etc. only add up to 7.6 GB out of 12 GB.  iTunes shows that I am all of a sudden using 5.6 GB listed under "OTHER".  What happened?

Why is storage capacity shown as full when it is not? Phone shows storage of only 7.6 GB out of 13 GB, but says I have no more storage.  iTunes indicates I am using 5.6 GB under the category "OTHER".  This is a sudden change.  What happened?

    HI Frostyfrog
CHeck out iTunes Match which has an annual fee of £21 or thereabouts. You can store a maximum of 25,000 songs there and they all become available on your other kit, iPhone, iPad and iPod. I know it works as I have over 23000 songs uploaded of which only a few we're bought through iTunes.
it works by comparing your music to the whole iTunes music dadata base so you access the same tunes that you could get from iTunes. If you have obscure stuff, it uploads your own music to the cloud as a copy.
I Find it incredible that on my iPhone with its 16gb memory I can view almost 200 gb of music (ie my 23000 songs) and play any of them. Anything I add to iTunes becomes available via the cloud fairly quickly from a few minutes or a little longer if adding a lot.
The first time you use it it will take quite a while to match your music if you have a lot, but after that it is all automatic. Read the stuff on the apple site. Your PC needs to be at least running Vista. I recommend it and at less than 50p a week it's good value.
    Good luck

  • Ipod Touch showing incorrect storage capacity

I have an Ipod Touch 64 GB 5th Gen running iOS 8.2. I'm not certain when this issue occurred initially from the devices perspective - only when I first noticed it. The device was running 8.1.1.3 at the time. I was working with it in Itunes and clicked on the iPods summary screen to check for the iOS 8.2 update. I noticed the capacity of the device was showing as 56.62 GB. Available space was 43.19. The little memory symbol for the Ipod shows 64 GB. I was troubled by the capacity message. No help there. I ran the Update to iOS 8.2. Succesful. Still same capacity. Checked the iPod's Gerneral/About screen - Capacity listed 56.6 GB.
Have I lost access to 8 GB of capacity here? Should I reset the thing?
    Message was edited by: meteoricide
Total of Audio, Video and App Data is 14.12 GB.  Available shows 43.19 GB. That adds up to 57.31.GB. So there is a 700 K discrepancy. Total Photo Data happens to be 700 K. Just saying.

You only have 56.6 GB available to you. The difference between that and the 64 GB advertised capacity is taken up by:
The operating system since you can't use that for storage
and how GB is advertised and used/reported by the operating system. See:
How OS X and iOS report storage capacity - Apple Support
The update did not change anything except likely reducing the capacity by 10 or so MB since update typically add things and thus takes more storage for the operating system

    Welcome to the Apple Community.
First check that your device is correctly connected to the wifi/internet (settings > wifi)
If your back up continually fails, you might try turning off back up on your mobile device (settings > iCloud > storage & backup) and then deleting the backup file from iCloud by swiping the backup file on the mobile device (settings > iCloud > storage & backup > manage…) and then turning back up on again.
If this doesn't help, try turning off some items for back up in a pattern to try to establish if your problem is being caused by specific data on your device.
Being able to back up to the cloud can be very useful, especially if you don't have access to a computer or have infrequent access to one, however unless you specifically need to use iCloud for back up, you will find backing up to iTunes significantly more convenient and possibly more reliable.

  • Does the 7th generation ipod nano have the same storage capacity as the 4th generation ipod nano

Just bought a ipod nano 7th generation to replace my 16gb 4th generation nano as its battery life is getting shorter
Went to load my library on to my new ipod and it could not take all the songs, wheras my 4th generarion had room to spare
so i have had to uncheck a lot of songs to get my new ipod to accept loading
my guess would be around 300 mb
Is this difference right when they are both rated as 16gb and showing on itunes at keast the same storage capacity?

Need to add I have restored the ipod twice with no change to storage capacity
    'others' is showing
    4th gen    119 mb
    7th gen 136 mb

  • My Ipod shuffle NOW thinks it has a 298.1 Gb storage capacity.  Help, plz.

    Good afternoon,
I have a 512 MB Ipod Shuffle, that I have used successsfully for 9 months without a single glitch, until now.
I'm using itunes 6.0.4.2, and the ipod shuffle is running software version 2006 03-23.
I have a Dell PC running Windows XP Pro. The USB port that I plug my Ipod into is fully powered.
When I plugged my Ipod in this morning to update my playlist...my computer recognized it as a new ipod. The name I had given it was no longer there: Instead it read DATARAID. The storage capacity is now listed as 298.1 GB.
When I click on the shuffle icon from within itunes, it claims that it has successfully loaded my entire library (29GB), onto my tiny shuffle. But of course, none of the songs play...instead the two green lights on the front of the ipod flash.
I have searched the discussion databases for helpful advice.
    So far I have:
reset my ipod shuffle: didn't work.
I have COMPLETELY removed and reinstalled itunes and the ipod updater following the proper procedures listed in the support database: didn't fix the problem.
I have run Ipod updater and restored my shuffle to "factory settings". The restore completed "successfully", but interestingly the dialog box for the restore lists the capacity of my shuffle as 298.1 GB.: didn't fix the problem.
I also attempted to specify the drive name of my shuffle as was posted to this discussion earlier by going to Disk management within windows. However, my shuffle does not appear in this list. It does, however, appear within Itunes: did't fix the problem.
I would GREATLY appreciate an suggestions about how to fix this problem. Especially, if my flash drive has spontaneously grown to 298.1 GB!
I spend long hours in the dark staring through the barrel of a microscope. Listening to my ipod makes the time pass faster.
    Thanks.

    The article posted above
    http://docs.info.apple.com/article.html?artnum=93499
is the correct thing to follow, but due to the way the iPod's update and are recognized and unmounted by the computer, there may be additional steps necessary.
Start with the iPod disconnected and all windows closed. Hold down the CTRL and ALT keys on the keyboard and then tap the DEL key to bring up the Windows Task Manager. In the Task Manager, click the Processes tab at the top. Then locate "iPodService.exe" in the list of running processes. Click it, and then click End Process at the bottom of the screen, and say yes to the warning message. Do the same thing with the process called "iTunesHelper.exe".
After that, connect the iPod, and follow the steps from the article linked above. The iPod should be listed in the Disk Management window now. It is likely being assigned a drive letter that is the same as a network volume you are connected to named "DATARAID". Change the drive letter to something far down the list, like X:, but first make sure that the letter you are using isn't already assigned to another drive.
After you have changed the drive letter, go into My Computer, look for the X: (or whichever one you chose) drive and right click it, and hit Eject. Once the light on the iPod shuffle stops flashing, disconnect the iPod and restart the computer. After restarting, open iTunes, and reconnect the iPod. It should show up properly now.

  • HT4914 will I need to upgrade my icloud storage capacity to hold my entire music library?

Will I need to upgrade my iCloud storage capacity to upload my entire music library into the itunes match?

No. iTunes match does not use your icloud storage. Match scans your library to determine which tracks are matched or uploaded.

  • 30gb video ipod showing incorrect storage capacity

    Hi,
I have a 30gb ipod. When I connect the ipod & open itunes or ipod updater, the ipod appears with an incorrect storage capacity.
The updater shows all other information correctly, except for Capacity, which shows at 65.0GB
With nothing on the ipod, Itunes shows used: 4.49GB, free: 58.99GB. If I try to transfer any files I get a message saying that there is not enough free space to transfer the files.
I have restored to factory settings, re-installing all software, changing usb ports etc but nothing seems to have helped...
Any suggestions would be greatly appreciated!
    Thanks,
    Matt.

  • Has anyone had difficulty with maximum storage capacity after updating their iOS to the newest version?

Ever since I updated my iphone 5 and my ipad I've gotten the message that I've reached maximum storage capacity. Is it the update or what's going on? Also, when you are in itunes, what is the "other" under capacity? That's so vague!

    Try This...
Close All Open Apps...  Perform a Reset... Try again...
Reset  ( No Data will be Lost )
Press and hold the Sleep/Wake button and the Home button at the same time for at least ten seconds, until the Apple logo appears. Release the Buttons.

  • Audio quality vs. storage capacity

I recently, accidentally, selected some option somewhere that improved my audio quality at the expense of my storage capacity. My 1st gen 2gb nano which held like 335 songs now holds 210, and my kid's new 8gb 5th gen nano holds 475 songs at a cost of 6+gb. I cna't figure out what i did or how to undo

You can't change what you download from the itunes store - it will all be at 256 kbps.
You also can't change anything about file size during burning.
If you are burning and then reimporting and get an even bigger file size, your import settings can't be correct.
As Dave & Chris noted, you don't even have to burn anything. Just let itunes convert it. That will give you 2 files on your PC of the same song. One at the original size, and one at the (hopefully) smaller size.

Why does my New ipad 2 32gig show 57.5 gigs with 28.5 gigs usable? Is it really a 64 gig with 32 gigs locked out?

Hi dadmom: I'm guessing you are seeing this capacity from within Windows Explorer. Yes? There have been a few posts on here of Explorer showing incorrect storage capacity. It should show the correct numbers within iTunes.
